Bolton and family design Richmond’s 10th Dreamtime jumper
As Richmond celebrates 10 years of Dreamtime guernseys, the Club also reveals that live-wire small forward, and 2019 premiership player, Shai Bolton, is this year’s artist for the Tigers’ Indigenous jumper.
Bolton, 21, a proud Noongar man from Western Australia, collaborated with his mother, Kylie Pickett, and nan, Beverley Pickett to create the artwork, and nan, Lynley Pickett to tell the story of the design.
Richmond became the first AFL Club to create a playing jumper with an Indigenous inspired design – and this week celebrates the 10th iteration of Dreamtime jumpers, in what would have been the AFL’s Sir Doug Nicholls Round. National Reconciliation Week also approaches next week - a time for Australians to learn more about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements.
Dreaming, connection, gathering, strength and determination are the key themes Bolton represents in his guernsey design.
Bolton represents his own journey and Dreaming, along with Richmond’s five other Aboriginal players, and tells the story of the Club’s recent on-field success throughout the design.
On the front of the jumper, the circle in the sash represents the Richmond Football Club, the footprints are the Club’s six Aboriginal players – Bolton, Shane Edwards, Sydney Stack, Marlion Pickett, Daniel Rioli, and Derek Eggmolesse-Smith making their journey to the Club, with each boomerang highlighting their individual connection to Country.
The back of the guernsey represents Bolton’s story and Noongar Dreaming, with a tribal warrior relating to power, strength and determination – represented by Richmond’s recent premiership successes.
The circles and campfires throughout the design are all of the different meeting places, gatherings and connections made in the players’ journeys into AFL, and the stars guide the Dreaming process.
Bolton said he wanted the design to represent more than his own story, he wanted it to represent every Richmond player who gets the chance to wear it.
“My family are forever grateful to have the opportunity to design this, and I just want to thank the Club for giving me the opportunity to design it,” he said.
“To do this, representing my family - representing the boys here, not even just the Indigenous boys, (but all) the boys that are playing with us - we’re always ‘one’ when we’re playing in this jumper.
“In my first year, when I got drafted and I played in the Dreamtime (at the 'G), it was an unbelievable experience, I’d never ever played in a big game like that in my life.”
All proceeds from Dreamtime jumper sales support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth through the Club’s Korin Gamadji Institute (https://kgi.org.au/). To purchase your own Shai Bolton designed Dreamtime guernsey, visit the Tigerland Superstore (https://shop.richmondfc.com.au/dreamtime).

Didn't know Hang Ten was still going concern let alone our new sponsors... :shh

Dreamtime game in the NT? Essendon-Richmond clash in Darwin on the cards
Daniel Cherny
The Age
8 July 2020
A Dreamtime clash between Essendon and Richmond in Darwin is a live option for the AFL’s next fixture block as the league deals with yet another scheduling headache following the announcement that metropolitan Melbourne will return to lockdown from 11:59pm on Wednesday night.
The league has indicated it is aiming to unveil its next chunk of fixtures by Friday with clubs yet to be allocated opponents beyond round seven, which ends with an Adelaide-St Kilda match on Monday, July 20.
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews’ announcement on Tuesday that stage three lockdown will be reimposed for six weeks has thrown yet another spanner in the AFL’s works given the league has guaranteed the 10 Victorian clubs they will be allowed to return to the state in around a month following their respective stints in the NSW, Queensland and West Australian hubs.
The AFL promised the Victorian clubs they would be able to have a stint at home in the second week of August. However with Melbourne now set to be locked down until at least August 19, restarting the season following that promised break appears much more complicated.
Some club figures were pondering whether the league could look to expedite a substantial portion of the season in the coming weeks by scheduling multiple matches per club per week in a bid to mitigate against the potential roadblocks caused by Victoria’s skyrocketing coronavirus case count and the border restrictions imposed by other states. However an AFL source indicated any fast-tracking of matches was unlikely until later in this season.
The fresh lockdown has also cast major doubts over the viability of this year’s VFL season, which was due to begin in early August, as well as the under-18 NAB League.
In the shorter-term, the Northern Territory looms large as a possible replacement venue for the traditional Bombers-Tigers Dreamtime match, aimed at honouring the contribution made by Indigenous people to Australian football. The blockbuster is generally played under lights at the MCG in late May in front of crowds of more than 70,000.
As the prospect of AFL matches being played in Victoria again this year - let alone with fans allowed to attend - slips away, well-placed sources indicated on Tuesday that a Bombers-Tigers match at Darwin’s TIO Stadium - proposed by AFLNT several weeks ago - is being looked at for some stage between rounds eight and 10.
Both clubs have strong links to the Northern Territory, with Essendon great Michael Long and late Richmond champion Maurice Rioli hailing from the region. Richmond’s Bowden family also have roots in the NT, with 265-game Tiger Joel Bowden a member of the NT Legislative Assembly and his brother Sean serving as AFLNT chairman.
The AFL opted against giving the NT a June or July hub despite lobbying from key bodies in the territory. The Bombers and the Tigers are both staying on the Gold Coast and could conceivably fly to Darwin to play after spending a fortnight of isolation in Queensland, during which time they are still allowed to train and play.
Gold Coast and Melbourne have existing contracts to play a home game this year in Darwin and Alice Springs respectively. Both those clubs are currently based in NSW but say they still intend to fulfil those contracts if possible.
“Territorians love their footy and we are working closely with the AFL to bring our two existing games to the Territory this year,” said an NT Government spokesperson.
“We are the safest place in Australia so it’s not surprising the AFL is interested, particularly given we can safely have crowds at games.
“We’re happy to consider a proposal that meets our tough health guidelines and doesn’t put Territorians at risk.”
The NT has had just 31 cases of COVID-19 with only one still active as of Tuesday. The Territory has started allowing crowds to sporting events with tickets being sold to next month’s V8 Supercars round in Darwin.

This Darwin Dreamtime game will be in the next round of fixturing according to Caro.
-
Auld said the Darwin Dreamtime is unlikely to be in the next rounds 9-12 batch. He expects it later in the season.

Round 13
Essendon vs Richmond
Saturday, August 22

It's a 5-day break for us.
-
Let’s hope Rioli has found some form by then.
An in-form Rioli a massive upgrade on Aarts... :shh

An in-form Rioli a massive upgrade on Aarts... :shh
Been out of form for 2.5 years unfortunately... :shh
Aarts kicked more goals last game and had more impact than Daniel has in his last 6 put together.

Youve got a real hatred for Daniel. Whats he done to you lol?

I like Daniel, I just think he is overrated.
If his name wasn’t Rioli he would have played half the amount of games he has IMO.
I also like Richmond winning GF’s, so if that means he plays or doesn’t, it really doesn’t matter to me.
I hope he regains form and pushes others to keep improving to keep their spot.
Win, win for us.
-
He is a very good player, needs to get involved more
He needs to work harder up the ground and on tackling
Stack played the role Rioli used to against Footscray

Ch 7 said Essendon is planning to rush back and play Joe Daniher next week against us.
-
Has Rioli improved at all since 2017?
The answer is no.
-
Ch 7 said Essendon is planning to rush back and play Joe Daniher next week against us.
Haha......after more than 12mths without a game. It will be like watching Mason Cox in every game he has played after from the Prelim
-
ESSENDON could welcome back star forward Jake Stringer for Saturday’s Dreamtime game in Darwin against Richmond.
The 26-year-old has been out of the side since suffering a syndesmosis injury in Round 5, with the Dons winning just two of a possible seven matches in his absence.
Both Cale Hooker and Orazio Fantasia won’t play against the Tigers but are set to return against Hawthorn the following week.
On Joe Daniher, the club’s head of medical services David Rundle said “Joe’s tracking really well. We’re really pleased with his progress. He’s training fully with the group, and we’ll continue to monitor him closely.”

-
Haha they're so desperate because their forward line stinks.
Hope they play unfit Stringer and Daniher
-
Caro on 3aw calling this a danger game due to Essendon's ins and that we're not playing that great at the moment.
Lloyd replied it is a better looking Bombers side but he'd rather be us with one change than seven. Said Caro was just being an old-school Richmond fan.
-
Have to be on alert and not take them easy and take our advantage of our dominance in the game.Last week to slow of the blocks and kept Sun's in it.Looking for a full 22 effort carrying a few to many passengers.
-
I think the bombers have gone in with speed in mind. Also look smaller too.
If last night was any indication the game will be like a wet weather game which suits us but we need to bring our game style otherwise we are kidding ourselves against any team.
Soldo is an issue as we know. He’s playing dreadfully.
Our small forwards need to step up.
I’m expecting all the indigenous boys to really step up for this one and put on a show so the defence should be ready for Tippa and Mossie.
Rioli, Stack, Pickett, Bolton have an excellent opportunity here so I hope they all do really well. If they do we win very comfortably.

Smalls have been shocking to be honest the forward line dreadful.Exactly we need to bring our pressure and tackling and hunt for the ball, but most importantly everybody contributing.
-
If Rioli can't pull his finger out for this one then he never will.... :shh
-
Georgie you're right. 29 degrees and humid on a carpet surface. Can't play slow and chip the ball or overpossess by hand. Treat it like a wet weather game as you said - K.I.S.S principle. Apply pressure without the pill, go direct with it to our talls with the smalls front and centre. Territory and putting it on the scoreboard wins.
-
Lynch goal
6 - 0
stick it up 'em Tom.
-
Soldo we're wearing y&b.
-
Lynch too strong. Miss.
8 - 0
-
Wasting in50s again :banghead
-
Markov should have given it off.
thanks Bellchambers. Grimes misses though :P
10 - 0
-
Kmac snap misses too
11 - 0
-
And they have one shot and take it.
:banghead
-
I gotta say that was great to see Mossie get that goal. :clapping
We are playing much better than last week.
-
No one should be immune to copping a whack
That handball was disgraceful by Cotchin :banghead
-
Dumb! Handball to flatfooted Soldo :facepalm
-
Geez our in50 are crap
-
When is Nank back :banghead
-
17 in50s for one goal :facepalm
-
Even Adelaide would be 5 goals up against this rabble :banghead
-
This is like last week :banghead
So much play, so many F50 entries and not taking advantage
Another wasted qtr :banghead
We should be at least 4.2 or even 5.1
Not 1.5 :banghead
-
Markov keeps that poo up and he’ll be at Werribee next year
-
When is Nank back :banghead
I agree. Soldo is absolutely rubbish.
-
Any chance of a friggin free kick. Zero so far
-
1/4 time
Richmond 1.5-11
Essendon 1.1-7
Goal: Lynch
-
Say this most weeks but our forward line is inept against the flood or spares back. I'd rather we man them up.
-
Despite the scoreboard and our rubbish inside 50 entries it looks like our pressure is was good that quarter. Unfortunately we didn’t take the opportunities presented.
Baker, Martin, Bolton all great that quarter
And I’m impressed with Castagna that quarter. Looks involved and poised with the footy. :clapping
-
We are so programmed for a long kick and crumb that we have zero leading small forwards. The game is so easy if you lead into space and the ball is kicked out in front. Its not rocket science but we are making it look that way, dumb forward entries week after week. Who is our forwards coach, he is the one who should have been cut due to budget cuts.
-
We get it to HF and then lose our brains and footskills :banghead
-
Jack's in terrible form so far.behind his man, missing marks
-
Is our f50 the twilight zone?
-
We are hitting more bomber jumpers than they are :banghead
and another missed set shot :banghead
-
What is holding the ball... stuff me!
-
Cotch to do double nappy duty.
-
We deserve to be beaten tonight. Just pathetic
-
Wtf is going on??
-
And of course they don't miss.
in50s: 25 - 7 and we're behind :banghead
-
How the hell is Aarts playing before Caddy.
-
Francis our of the game with a hammy.
We should keep it simple and the forwards should lead into space. Everyone else can get out.
-
1 free kick and a deliberate out of bounds in almost a half of footy.
-
Geez we are so undisciplined at times
-
Terrible
On the HF line zero 2nd effort by Bolton
Poor attempt by Houli
And the little Mozzie gets another goal
-
Pickett is nowhere near afl standard. Castagna is a joke tonight. Is he on strike or something. The laziest performance ivd ever seen. Just rubbish from pickett and castagna.
-
I'm sick of watching some of these hacks every week.
-
George goes wide instead of looking inside.
Poor by Short. Didn't shepherd for Pickett.
dumb dumb dumb
-
WOW
Someone at the fall of the ball
And guess what?
Goal
-
Bolton pulls one out thankfully
20 - 19
-
Disgraceful to watch. Won't make a dent in finals dishing up this trash
-
Pickett is nowhere near afl standard. Castagna is a joke tonight. Is he on strike or something. The laziest performance ivd ever seen. Just rubbish from pickett and castagna.
We obviously not watching the same game
Castagna much better this week
Not great by any means but much better
-
Rioli goal
26 - 19
-
Class always counts. Rioli goal
-
3.8
8 bloody behind :banghead :banghead
-
Pickett is nowhere near afl standard. Castagna is a joke tonight. Is he on strike or something. The laziest performance ivd ever seen. Just rubbish from pickett and castagna.
We obviously not watching the same game
Castagna much better this week
Not great by any means but much better
Castagnas been nowhere. Hardly touched the footy.
-
Class always counts. Rioli goal
Best game he has played all season (so far)
-
Pickett is nowhere near afl standard. Castagna is a joke tonight. Is he on strike or something. The laziest performance ivd ever seen. Just rubbish from pickett and castagna.
We obviously not watching the same game
Castagna much better this week
Not great by any means but much better
Castagnas been nowhere. Hardly touched the footy.
And what he has touched turned to crap. I'm done with him.
-
1/2 time
Richmond 1.5 3.8-26
Essendon 1.1 3.1-19
Goals: Lynch, Bolton, Rioli.
Brainless dumb hack footy given we've had approx. 20 more in50s.
-
Can't understand why we can't sort out forward line and add to that delivery in 50 same story weekly keep teams in it.
-
Forward entries are abysmal...playing like a team full of Griggs....as usual.... >:(
Soldo the opposition's best mid.....playing like another Hamspud....as usual.... >:( >:(
-
Any chance our forwards can present?
It’s like they just want it long all the time.
I will tell you as a defender it’s much harder stoping a forward when he’s got momentum rather that trying to stop him in a wrestle.
Why won’t the forwards lead? It’s just so frustrating.
We hear week on week Hardwick say about our forwards entries and that they will work on them but we see the same thing over and over again. It’s killing us.
BLOODY LEAD!
Soldo... don’t get me started.
Is Chol playing?
-
Forward entries are abysmal...playing like a team full of Griggs....as usual.... >:(
Soldo the opposition's best mid.....playing like another Hamspud....as usual.... >:( >:(
It’s a good thing we have Chol to pick up the slack :shh
2 handballs in a half of footy :lol
-
If we get over the line tonight (no guarantees with the slop we are dishing out) wait for the sooking about the umps from the Richmond haters :rolleyes even though Stringer's brainfade push in Grimesy's back was clearly there.
-
Need to step it up this half get back to basics pressure and tackling and hit the scoreboard.
-
Need a goal kicking small forward.
-
Pickett is nowhere near afl standard.
Some time is not about the number of touches
Having said that there are couple of bigger names whose disposal have resulted some of the softest turn overs to the Bumblings you could ever witness :shh
-
Cant win the flag with this side. Too many bludgers and a few too many who hack the footy. When do some of our missing players come back
-
Jack goals
Thank god for Balta
-
Jack goal
32 - 19
-
Geez Lambo.
Soldo kicking it to 5 Bombers
george misses everything
:facepalm
-
Dusty goal
38 - 19
-
Lambert goal
That's 5 in a row
Seem a bit more switched on now
-
Balta & Kmac playing well
best forward entry. Lambo goal
44 - 19
-
Who put on that chase then?
-
Grrr! Too easy :banghead
44 - 25
-
It was Dusty
But he was to slow starting the chase
He was flat footed
-
Jack gets another one :clapping
-
Nice mark Jack & goal
50 - 25
Baker started that.
-
:banghead
-
Stack should've marked that.
Man up in d50 :banghead
-
Stack should've marked that.
Man up in d50 :banghead
Stack was trying for Mark of the year
Rather than just taking a mark
-
What was that Bolts?
-
Soldo :facepalm
then Lambo hits the point post :P
-
We look a bit cooked here
-
What was Bachar doing :banghead
Let's them back in this game :scream
-
Pathetic defending allowing that uncontested mark thanks to clueless Soldo
-
Houli was manning up on the goal umpire. Bloody lazy and soft!
-
Lynch poster. Getting too close to the mark
-
3 shocking handballs by Pickett
Lucky to get out of that
-
That needed Benny Hill music
-
3/4 time
Richmond 1.5 3.8 7.10-52
Essendon 1.1 3.1 6.1-37
Goals: Jack 2, Lynch, Martin, Lambert, Rioli, Bolton.
-
Need to go with it just keep letting them in sill mistakes.Gez we need a massive improvement for eagles and cats.
-
Running out of steam with too many passengers...
This could get ugly.
-
Plenty ordinary tonight - Soldo, Pickett, George, Aarts for starters.
-
What was that Dan?
-
:banghead
-
That stupidity by Rioli could cost us the game :banghead :banghead
-
Could have nearly shut the door Rioli.... :banghead
-
Are we allergic to the goals tonight?
-
Shame on you Rioli
Absolutely pathetic
-
Rioli made a mistake but he was was trying to be a team player.
-
Shame on you Rioli
Absolutely pathetic
Thats a shameful piece if posting WP. Didnt expect it from you.
-
Rioli made a mistake but he was was trying to be a team player.
Please Ramps no excuse less than 30 metres you don't kick it
He had no one near him
It was disgraceful
-
Your previous post was a disgrace.
-
Another one miSsed :banghead
-
Shame on you Rioli
Absolutely pathetic
Thats a shameful piece if posting WP. Didnt expect it from you.
Really?
But if you post something similar about a certain players it's Ok?
-
Ive never posted the words
'Shame on you'
I dont think Pickett and Castagna should be in this side but i dont post 'shame on you'. Just a shocking thing yo write about a young man who tried to get a teammate a goal.
-
50 to Floss. Goal
60 - 43
-
Good goal by Vlas
-
Thank God
-
Jack Grsham very good tonight.
-
Graham to Lynch. Goal
66 - 43
-
In50s: 60 - 18
-
Chol goal
72 - 43
-
Dusty a bit selfish there.
73 - 43
-
Grrr! :Banghead
-
Good 4 points. Got the job done but we need to improve massively before finals. This level of performance wont win us flag.
-
And we allow another cheap one in the last 2 mins of the game :banghead
% is so important this year. Can't afford to keep doing this
-
We’d be better off running with 17 than usual Soldo, everything he touches is to the opposition advantage every week.
-
Another soft goal conceded. From a d50 stoppage :banghead
-
1 minute ago we were 30 points up
Now it's just 12 points :banghead
-
Blow the siren. Have a shower. Get on plane.
Never speak of this game again
-
40 more in50s for the same number of goals :banghead
-
Take the 4 points
But seriously we dish up what we did tonight against the Eagles we will get smashed by 10+ goals
-
Some seriously weak efforts the last 5 minutes. Zero defensive pressure in our f50 tonight. Just bounced out too easy all night.
-
Our small forwards are a disgrace.
Please don't make excuses for them.
-
Disgusting game.
Stinks of 2018. Another 'take the points and move on' type of game.
We're going to get torched in finals if we dish up this BS.
-
We have so much work to do. Dimma would be very worried with what we are dishing up at the moment.
So many opportunities for little reward but wins a win.
-
Rioli kicked a great goal but that last handball was pure garbage.
Stack should be dropped.
Not happy with Lambert.
Chol needs a rest or a rocket. Aarts' purple patch seems over.
-
Much deserved Shai. Ripper
-
Final score
Richmond 1.5 3.8 7.10 10.13-73
Essendon 1.1 3.1 6.1 10.1-61
Goals: Riewoldt 2, Lynch 2, Rioli, Bolton, Martin, Lambert, Chol, Vlastuin.
-
For a guy who is supposed to tackle and apply pressure, Castagna, zero tackles.
-
Bolton won the Yiookan BOG award :clapping
-
We’d be better off running with 17 than usual Soldo, everything he touches is to the opposition advantage every week.
Soldo was good.
Won the ruck without any help from Chol, and contributed around the ground.
-
And we allow another cheap one in the last 2 mins of the game :banghead
% is so important this year. Can't afford to keep doing this
Percentage for us is only important if Collingwood manage to get level with us on points
-
No poking each other during the song tonight. Very stilted in fact. Obviously got the message.
-
We’d be better off running with 17 than usual Soldo, everything he touches is to the opposition advantage every week.
Soldo was good.
Won the ruck without any help from Chol, and contributed around the ground.
Soldo was good, bar that stupid kick.
Showed how agile he can be a couple of times tonight. I heard he's been playing with a mild ankle complaint because Nank and CCJ aren't available.
When he's on he's very serviceable. Just needs to stay at this level and go above.
-
Take it but was an ordinary game. Soldo battled hard but really needs a rest.
Houli should be better for the run you would think. You don't know what Castagna is going to do with the ball...think he needs a spell.
Solid games by many but nothing to get too excited about other than the games from Bolton and Bolta :clapping
Lambert frustrated me tonight and did the Captain.
-
Ive never posted the words
'Shame on you'
I dont think Pickett and Castagna should be in this side but i dont post 'shame on you'. Just a shocking thing yo write about a young man who tried to get a teammate a goal.
Rioli messed up and it was disgraceful.
Like WP said, if it was George you would be all over it.
-
Take the win and bank it won ugly last 2 weeks wasn't easy game up there in Darwin to.Get a few back next week and need to lift the intensity next 2 games. The domination we had last 2 games and nothing to show for it cannot happen against top sides.
-
Any scratch match info this week?
-
Take the 4 pts and move on. Won't get away with playing like that & wasting F50s next week but oddly the Eagles won't be flooding so it will be more open.
Bolts, Dusty, Graham, Balta, Kmac, Floss in our bests tonight.
Need our missing stars back asap. Our current bottom six is being carried.
-
I want to say that all our defenders were brilliant tonight.
But we cannot hide from the fact our small forwards are just putrid at the same time. Something is not quite right or not cohesive. Maybe it's over coaching? Lack or form? Poor quality players?
Undoubtedly our Achilles heel at the moment.
-
We won, stinking hot, short time between games, cut some slack, well done boys
-
Ive never posted the words
'Shame on you'
I dont think Pickett and Castagna should be in this side but i dont post 'shame on you'. Just a shocking thing yo write about a young man who tried to get a teammate a goal.
X 2
Obviously not the right decision but you can’t bag a young fella for playing the team game
Well unless you are a flog or have an ulterior motive that is
-

The opposition are flooding out back half, this is hurting our entries. Dimma said we have been working on strategies to combat this tactic however looks like we still have work to do.

Rioli was great tonight, best performance for the year :shh

Ive never posted the words
'Shame on you'
I dont think Pickett and Castagna should be in this side but i dont post 'shame on you'. Just a shocking thing yo write about a young man who tried to get a teammate a goal.
X 2
Obviously not the right decision but you can’t bag a young fella for playing the team game
Well unless you are a flog or have an ulterior motive that is
No ulterior motive at all. To that point of the game I actually thought he had played really well
As for your name calling...will let that slide like I usually do when it is directed at me
But I thought that effort/decision he made was disgraceful. It could have been extremely costly. Luckily it wasn't

I want to say that all our defenders were brilliant tonight.

Not buying that at all. Our forwards are not playing with natural instinct. It's either coaching or quality? We need another trick if the are flooding back because these defensive forwards are not getting the job done. Actually they are not getting near it.

Castagna zero tackles

SNIP :banghead :banghead
Enough with the abuse and cheap shots
I get that I've posted something that has upset a couple of people. And the abuse (name calling) directed at me I won't be removing...
But....
Since then the personal feuds between a couple posters have started up again.
Unacceptable!
Play the ball, not the person and keep the cheap shots and abuse off the forum

Media already trying to:
Have Lynch suspended for striking Hurley
Have Grimes fined or suspended for flopping against Tipunwudi.
Unbelievable

Well it's not quality given our recent success...it's clear the opposition are flooding and we are kicking it long to out numbers. This is why we are getting repeat inside 50's. Some of their goals happened when they broke through. Maybe we need to play keeping off, couldn't be any worse than watching the putrid games teams are dishing up this year.
-
The problem is that we a not coping with teams flooding against us and our smalls are not doing there bread and butter let alone score pressure and tackling.

Castagna was calling Rioli for the ball. It was Castagnas fault. Castagna was looking for a cheapie as usual and Dan tried to give him a goal and instead of criticising Castagna people criticised Rioli who was very good on the night.

I mean I think that’s a pretty poor argument. Castagna was free so he like any forward was always going to call for it. Didn’t mean he had to send a hospital handball to him. Could have easily kicked it to him for an easy set shot in front of goal. Will give rioli the benefit of the doubt that he was trying to do the team thing but sometimes when we are over doing it in the forward 50 I get a sense that the boys are trying to pass on the responsibility of kicking the goal to a teammate rather than take it themselves.
In any case not a big deal. You guys are blowing up over nothing.
-
Not a poor argument at all. Castagna was no good again yesterday, he was looking for a cheap goal and knew that in our culture Rioli would pass it off. It was Castagna who failed to kick the goal not Rioli.

I’m almost certain that the review will say “Dan, next time kick the stuffing goal”
-
Shame on you Rioli
Absolutely pathetic
I posted the above last night and I am well aware that it has upset a few people
And I have copped a few whacks for it
In the heat of the moment we say things that we should phrase a bit better
While I stand by my comment that the option Rioli took to handball rather than kick the goal was a poor choice that I labelled disgraceful
I can understand why the quote I've highlighted has upset posters
If I offended anyone that wasn't my intent and I am sorry for that
-
Yes it will but there was no need for Castagna to be begging to get the cheapie and there was no need for the attacks on dan rioli by a small section of our supporters on big footy. That site is dead set the home of the unhinged and the idiot fringe.

Does this mean you have forgiven my badly phrased statement?

Welcome 65. What are you doing here? Taking a break from the politics threads? Welcome mate.

As a whole we played very poorly. Our delivery into the forwardline is a worry as is the movement within the forwardline. To have that many inside 50s and not win by a bigger margin tells you something is really wrong. Although I do accept our kicking for goal was not great. Selflessness is part of the team culture and hence why I think Rioli didn't go for goal. Although it was at a critical junction in the game that only came about because we had wasted so many chances previously. The game of Bolton was outstanding. His ability to pick up the ball and have clean disposal in tricky conditions was a real highlight. His evasiveness and handballing were sublime. Dustin and him really stood out as did Floss in the last quarter.
