The Tigers want to give their senior stars decent match time in the unofficial scratch match against Melbourne later this month at Casey Fields and then in the formal AAMI Community Series game against Collingwood on Friday, March 5 at Marvel Stadium.

According to taztiger:
"a mates nephew is one of our VFL plyers & he has been told to be at Casey @ 9.30 Friday"
-
It's at Casey but I'm not sure about the time. Believe it could be a 6 quarter game to ensure the list from both camps get time on the ground.

Like to see more of this kind of thing for pre-season matches even in the televised "official" ones now that there's no cup or prize money.to play for....should be able to give your entire list a good crack at it and supporters want to see the kids..... :shh

Exactly, unfortunately all the $ and people are working on the AFLW team at the moment so we'll be lucky to see 2mins of footage.

Do we have a squad for this? Or is it the entire list?
-
Do we have a squad for this? Or is it the entire list?
Word is the game will be over 6 quarters to give the whole list a go. If that's true then only Soldo, Prestia, Houli, Cumberland will miss due to injury. D.Rioli could also skip it if they are precautious with his rolled ankle. RCD apparently trained fully at next training session post-intra-club match.
7news said Viney, Brayshaw and Daw won't be playing for Melbourne. No Brown, Weideman and Melksham either according to the Dees website.
-
Doesn't RCD have to miss a week under the new concussion rule or does that only apply to the season proper?

Forgot about that. You may be right, Dio.

It applies in the pre-season too.
Maybe from the Pies isn't allowed to play this week either

7 quarters today.
First 4 quarters. will be best 22 then the remaining 3 will be the ressies.
-
Lynch is injured, ankle by the looks. Looked proppy. Limped off.
-
Ross, Chol, Caddy, Aarts, Martyn in the "best 22".
Jack marks on 50. Tries passes it to Chol but it's too short.
Baker runs onto the kick-in but misses.
2 - 0
-
Great precise kick by Jack into the corridor. Ends up with Aarts marking in the goalsquare. Goal!
Rich 1.3-9
Melb 0.1-1
-
Lynch back on, phewww
-
Lynch back on :thumbsup.
Nice kick out of defence by Ralphsmith. (then he kicks its OOTF 30 secs later).
-
Lynch back on, phewww
LOL wrong thread
-
Good work by Martyn to get a hand up there and cause the turnover. Dusty gets it and hits up Bolton. Goal.
Rich 2.3-15
Melb 1.2-8
-
Ralphsmith out there glenty plenty of it but turning it over resulting in the 2 Dees goals.
-
No movement up field so we're stagnant and kicking down the line out of defence. Dees feeding off our turnovers and hitting us on the counter.
15 - 20
-
Ralphsmith out there glenty plenty of it but turning it over resulting in the 2 Dees goals.
He's going to ground too easily so far after the initial contest. So he's out of the play for the second contest and allowing a free Melbourne player.
-
Quarter time
Richmond 2.3-15
Melbourne 3.2-20
Goals: Aarts, Bolton.
-
First half of that quarter we had the territory but rustiness/sloppiness didn't make the most of it. Should have dominated the centre clearances but the last possession wasn't clean and we'd stuff it up. Dees had the better of the play towards the end of the quarter. We were too stagnant were having trouble clearing it from our defensive half. Weren't creating options and switching like we did in the intra-club.
-
:lol
-
George crumbs off the pack and goals.
Rich 3.4-22
Melb 3.2-20
-
Geeoooorrrrrggggggiiiiiiieeeeeeeee
-
Brilliant Sheds. Long ball in from Short and Sheds does a 'KB' off the pack and runs into an open goal.
Rich 4.4-28
Melb 3.2-20
-
Gawn trying to be a tough guy in a practice match :facepalm.
-
George good mark but it's a poster.
29 - 20
-
Good transition off HB. Aarts centres to Caddy. Goal.
Rich 5.5-35
Melb 3.3-21
Sheds is on for a preseason game.
-
Any of our kids playing?
-
Good switch to the fat side. Kmac's long kick to the hot spot is marked strongly in the pack by Lynch. Goal!
Rich 6.5-41
Melb 3.4-22
-
Any of our kids playing?
Yes Ramps.
Ross
Martyn
Ralphsmith
-
Im doing errands so I cant watch thats why Im asking.
-
Gawn playing well for the Dees too tall for Nanak.
-
Im doing errands so I cant watch thats why Im asking.
All good Ramps :thumbsup.
After dominating this quarter in general play we've give up two soft late goals in the last 2 mins.
41 - 34
-
Half-time
Richmond 2.3 6.5-41
Melbourne 3.2 5.4-34
Goals: Lynch, Edwards, Caddy, Aarts, Bolton, Castagna.
-
All over the Dees for most of that quarter and we really should be further in front. The play was primarily in our forward half with our back six creating a wall. We switched and spread the play better that quarter but we wasted though a few forward entries with long bombs to Gawn sitting in the hole. Melbourne only scoring off the turnover and countering.
None of the young blokes have stood out. Ross quiet compared to the intra-club. Martyn has been solid. Ralphsmith has gone to ground too often.
Of the older blokes, Sheds has been silk. As I said our backs (Baker, Floss, Astbury, Grimes, Short, Broad) have been on top of their Dee forward opponents.
There's 7 quarters today so the rest of the squad will get a run in quarters 5-7.
-
I agree re forward entries. We bomb it long all the time rather than hit hitting up a leading target.
-
Gawn is keeping Melbourne in it. Doing it at both ends.
41 - 40
-
3 sloppy frees in a row leads to another Melbourne goal. They're now in front.
41 - 46
-
LOL. Nank cops it in the head and the non-controlling ump pulls a free to the Dees :huh3.
-
Stuffing up that last kick into F50.
-
3 passes in a row inside 50 straight to Dee defenders :P.
-
We are really struggling inside 50. Making ourselves look really ordinary.
-
Umpiring hasn't improved at all either
-
Ordinary this qtr.
41 - 55
-
Bolton out of the middle. Ends up with Jack 35 out. Misses.
42 - 55
-
Dees are scragging and the umps are letting them get away with it.
-
Nice snap Caddy. Badly needed goal.
Rich 7.6-48
Melb 8.8-56
-
No pressure. Allowed Oliver to waltz out of the middle and kick a goal.
48 - 62
-
We look like a team that has had a very short pre season. No run left. 20 points down and leaking out the back.
Jack R has been taking the pee today and refuses to have a shot for goal.
-
Class by Sheds out of the middle. Jack marks in the goalsquare and goals.
Rich 8.6-54
Melb 10.8-68
-
Sheds intercepts the Petracca pass into the corridor. Ross chips to Jack. Goal.
Rich 9.6-60
Melb 10.8-68
-
Good transition. Broad hits up Bolts 35 out on the siren. Too much out to the right for it to swing back.
3/4 time
Richmond 2.3 6.5 9.7-61
Melbourne 3.2 5.4 10.8-68
Goals: Riewoldt 2, Caddy 2, Lynch, Aarts, Bolton, Castagna, Edwards.
-
Just went through the motions for most of that quarter offering little pressure and even kicking into the breeze we were bloody ordinary. However, we stepped it up in the last 5 minutes to claw back two goals. See how we go in the last with the breeze.
-
Two passes towards Chol and he was nowhere near it.
Soft goal on the counter to the Dees into the breeze.
61 - 74
-
Better from Chol and he gets the free. Goal.
Rich 10.7-67
Melb 11.8-74
-
CCJ and Gallucci have come on.
Point to us.
68 - 74
-
Dow on as well. Copped it high but no free ::).
Dusty laser in-board pass to Ralphsmith 35 out. Misses.
70 - 74
-
Dees get a goal into the breeze to make us pay for our misses.
70 - 80
-
Our forward pressure has been ordinary today. Have allowed the Dees to run it out far too easily and score on the rebound.
-
We have been dominated in the air today
Gawn flogged Nank
May flogged Lynch
Good hit out though
Dees look alright and missing plenty of good players.
hanger by CCJ good to see.
-
Great mark CCJ at HB.
-
Aarts goal.
Rich 11.10-76
Melb 12.9-81
10 mins to go.

Pickett has just come on.
Goal to Melb. Another too easy clearance out of the middle to Oliver.
76 - 87
-
Looks we've taken off Nank, Cotch, Sheds.
Naish on.
Our 4 at the last centrebounce was Chol in the ruck, Ross, Dow and Martyn.
Grimes intercept marks causes the turnover. Aarts snaps another goal.
Rich 12.10-82
Melb 13.9-87
-
Dees get it straight back from the centrebounce. Our inexperience showing in the middle with the young blokes in there.

Galluchi looks like a barrel on legs

-
"B-teams" match starts at 12:30pm.
Had to laugh at the commentators saying we were at full strength :lol.
We played like it was our first preseason hitout. Rusty and our pressure game was missing.
We clearly didn't care about winning when we put the cubs on in the last quarter and played them all the middle while the Dees kept their starting midfield (Gawn, Petracca, Oliver & Jones) on for the full 4 qtrs.
-
Looks like we've got VFL ring-ins in the B-team.
Who is #22, #26, #34?
M.Rioli off the ground hits the post.

What happened to Lambert?
All injured (not long-term injuries). RCD didn't play either.
Don't know how many possies Ross got. He was better in the second half than the first IMO but his impact was much less than in our intra-club game.

Agree. Green had a really good 2nd qtr.
Out of the remaining four trainees with us it's between Green & Eggy for the final spot. Eggy had a good 2nd qtr too running off HB. Gallucci looks too slow while Couroupis hasn't done much.
Liked the look of #26 (Cam Olden - thanks taz) from our VFL-listers.

Dow was our best IMV.
Eggy was next.
Maurice jnr was much much better in this game than in the intra-club. Will have a lot of our supporters excited after seeing today's effort.
Thought Biggie did well in defence.
Pickett loves to turn it on late in games.
You would have CCJ ahead of Ryan based on today's game. Thought Ryan was disappointing compared to the intra-club hitout.
Cam Olden (#26) was the most impressive of our VFL-listed players.

Articles about the seniors game:
Big Max dominates, fringe forward fires, Dusty finishes early
By Callum Twomey
afl.com.au
26 February 2021
MELBOURNE'S ruck partnership of Max Gawn and Luke Jackson got another tick on Friday, with the pair combining to help the Demons overcome Richmond in their practice match.
Gawn was best on ground, with the Demons skipper steering his side to its 11-point win at Casey Fields. The four-time All-Australian showed he had lost none of his touch with a standout showing working in tandem with a noticeably more athletic and stronger Jackson ahead of his second AFL season.
Having Jackson in stints in the ruck also allowed Gawn to drift into attack, where he kicked two goals and offered a marking target in the Dees' injury-hit forward line. The score at the end of the fourth term was 14.9 (93) to 12.10 (82)
The clubs broke their game into seven periods, with Melbourne sticking with its first-choice line-up for the first four periods before a largely youth and development squad played out the remainder.
The Tigers stuck with a largely unchanged squad for the same time however they subbed in a group of fresh players into the match in the fourth term, with superstar Dustin Martin, defender David Astbury and midfielder Shane Edwards among those to finish early after reaching their planned game time. Two-time premiership player Marlion Pickett played in the second match.
Young Demon Kyle Chandler pressed his claims for a round one berth with three goals across the game, while Bayley Fritsch also kicked three. Veteran Nathan Jones, playing mainly as a half-forward, chipped in with two, while gun midfielders Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver were dominant.
Tom McDonald, who was on the trade table in last year's exchange period, played as a key forward for the Dees and kicked one major.
Jack Riewoldt and Jake Aarts both kicked two goals for the Tigers, who controlled the game early but allowed Melbourne to hit back with a five-goal third term, with the Demons holding onto the lead thereafter. Fellow Tigers forwards Mabior Chol and Shai Bolton also competed well.
Young guns
Hardwick is enthusiastic about the young Tigers developing at the club and he gave a couple of them an opportunity on Friday. Hugo Ralphsmith, noticeably baulked up in his second season at Richmond, was solid off half-back and is being groomed as a potential Bachar Houli replacement of the future, while Will Martyn spent time in the middle, including in the centre square.
Switching positions
Josh Caddy resumed his post on the wing for the Tigers and had an impact, also pushing forward to kick a goal in the third term.
Injury watch
Both teams appeared to get through the game unscathed. The Tigers were without Daniel Rioli (ankle), Kane Lambert (hip), Dion Prestia (hamstring) and Bachar Houli (calf), while a big bump floored Riley Collier-Dawkins in last week's intra-club but he is expected to be available for the AAMI Community Series.
Fantasy tempters
Richmond youngster Jack Ross will also be one to watch at the other end of the price spectrum. Ross is set for more midfield time and has plenty of fans at Punt Road so should be tracked carefully.

Dees’ old issue returns, Tiger cubs pushing for R1: What we learned from Melbourne v Richmond
Melbourne and Richmond put on a scoring show at Casey Fields.
David Zita
Fox Sports
February 26th, 2021
Melbourne did enough to hold Richmond at bay in an entertaining 11-point win at Casey Fields on Friday, finishing 14.9 (93) winners over the reigning premiers, 12.10 (82).
Despite the result, the Tigers proved they’re still going along just fine after winning back-to-back flags, while the Dees showed just how damaging they can be against some of the game’s top sides.
With the match done and dusted and one more pre-season hitout to come, here are the key takeaways for both sides.
DEES’ ‘RED MIST’ KICKS INTO OVERDRIVE ... FOR BETTER OR WORSE
While the Dees were lacking some big names up forward, they were pretty well set in defence, which may’ve made some of Richmond’s transition a bit alarming for Simon Goodwin, even though their scoring power proved crucial to the win.
In recent times it has been Melbourne’s points conceded from forward half turnovers that has been a source of dismay for Dees fans, with the club ranking 17th in the stat last year, something only amplified by the fact they ranked 18th for forward half turnovers.
More than once during Friday’s game a Dees foray forward quickly turned to rapid counterattack for the Tigers.
On the plus side for Melbourne, those surges forward did lead to some damaging strings of goals when coupled with the Casey Fields breeze - with Richmond CEO Brendon Gale noting during the match the opposition was “noticeably quicker” as an outfit while Sam Weideman said there had been added emphasis on attack in the build up to the season.
Also a positive for the Dees is that, while their weaknesses may be similar, their strengths in sheer star power remain imposing - Max Gawn was dominant across the ground, Christian Petracca worked his way into the game and Clayton Oliver was right amongst it in the middle.
Importantly, all three hit the scoreboard, with Gawn having a chance to kick a bag if not for some wayward goalkicking.
It’s a fine balance that Goodwin will need to balance - and seemed to in getting the win on Friday.
PICKETT’S NOTABLE ABSENCE
As Hugo Ralphsmith made himself at home on the wing during the ‘A’ game on Friday, Marlion Pickett was listed for a run in the twos before coming on in the fourth term heading into game ‘B’.
Two flags from 20 games at AFL level is something Pickett will never forget, but his place in the side during 2020 wasn’t guaranteed and his absence from the top-level scratch match could be a sign he still has some work to do ahead of the season proper.
Pickett’s future isn’t in jeopardy - he signed a two-year extension at the end of last year - but his immediate prospects of senior selection aren’t as set in stone as they may’ve been at the start of last year’s successful premiership tilt.
For his part, Ralphsmith showed promise and his willingness to run during stints on the wing and in the backline.
The team sheets for the AAMI Community Series match with Collingwood next Friday will be intriguing as far as Pickett’s involvement is concerned.
You’d suspect Damien Hardwick would back in Pickett, but the Tigers have thrived on the ‘one soldier out another soldier in’ mentality in recent years.
JAKE AARTS WAS STIFF TO MISS OUT ON A FLAG
The meteoric rise of Jake Aarts took an unfortunate turn at the backend of the 2020 season when the 26-year-old goalsneak was dropped after the first final and missed out on a crack at the flag.
His performance on Friday morning proved he was mighty stiff to lose his spot, as the crafty forward booted three goals, the most of any Tiger, and looked dangerous whenever the ball was brought to ground in the forward 50.
There’s no shortage of competition for spots as a pressure forward in the Richmond lineup, but Aarts’ performance was surely enough to reaffirm to Damien Hardwick that he belongs in the seniors to start the year.
Hopefully for him, he’s there at the pointy end of the season this time around.

Gawn forward as Demons move on Tigers
By Michael Gleeson
The Age
February 26, 2021
Bachar doubt opens up options
Bachar Houli is unlikely to be fit for round one as he struggles with a calf injury. The Tigers moved youngster Hugo Ralph Smith into a running defender role in the pre-season and gave him the nod in the main game ahead of Marlion Pickett who played that role in the second of the practice matches on the day.
Ralph Smith was impressive in the full hit out with clever clean hands and good ball use, he has good run and looked comfortable in the role.
“Hugo is putting his hand up in the pre-season to fill that spot. he was really serviceable today and we will see how he is next week against Collingwood,” assistant coach Adam Kingsley said.
Josh Caddy has also played across half back in the pre-season but was used on a wing again in the practice game and did well.
Young Tigers
Jake Aarts did well forward for the Tigers and Jack Ross managed more midfield time. Ross looked good doing some clever things. He hit perhaps the kick of the day in the third quarter when on the run and under pressure he saw Jack Riewoldt in the opposite pocket and squared a low flat kick across his body to find the full forward.
Shae Bolton at half forward was good for the Tigers. Dion Prestia did not play as he recovers from injury.
Thompson Dow came on in the last quarter of the main game as a bunch of Tigers including Dusty Martin and Shane Edwards came off after playing their predetermined minutes.
Stand By
No 50m penalties were paid for the new man on the mark rule.
Whether it was the new rule or the familiarity with the wide size of the ground Melbourne looked the quicker of the sides with their ball use and run through the corridor of the ground.
“Melbourne were able to hit the corridor a bit more than we would have liked, maybe that was the new rule, maybe we were a bit sloppy in defence,” Richmond assistant coach Adam Kingsley said.

DEMONS SEE OFF TIGERS IN COMPETITIVE HIT OUT
By Andrew Slevison
SEN
26 February 2021
Melbourne and Richmond have played out a competitive practice match at Casey Fields this morning.
The Demons won by 11 points - 14.9.(93) to 12.10.(82) - in a game that ebbed and flowed throughout.
The reigning premiers were without a handful of premiership players - Dion Prestia, Kane Lambert, Bachar Houli, Daniel Rioli and Marlion Pickett (who came on late in the last quarter) - while the Demons had Jack Viney, Sam Weideman, Jake Melksham, Angus Brayshaw, Michael Hibberd, Kysaiah Pickett and recruit Ben Brown among those on the sidelines.
The Tigers saw Dustin Martin and Shane Edwards very busy around the ball and across half-forward but coach Damien Hardwick will be most pleased by the impressive performances of 2019 draft pair Will Martyn and Hugo Ralphsmith.
The former picked up plenty of touches, particularly early, and impressed with his fierce attack on the ball while the latter looked comfortable playing off half-back, playing a rebounding role in tandem with Liam Baker.
Jake Aarts was busy with three goals, while Jack Riewoldt and Josh Caddy each kicked two.
Richmond added the likes of Thomson Dow, who was busy in the final term, Callum Coleman-Jones, Patrick Naish and triallist Jordan Gallucci late in the game.
For the Tigers, it was a solid hit out which they’ll only benefit from.

Two changes for next week:
Shai to go back to black hair, not a fan of the blonde
Hugo to go with short back and sides, it's un richmond like except late 80s early 90s.

I’m not too concerned. We had that draw against Collingwood in round 2 last year and came home with the wet sail. Premierships aren’t won in feb

From Foxsports:
Here’s what we learned from every AFL club after this weekend’s scratch matches.
RICHMOND
Truthfully, we didn’t learn much. Richmond lost but did enough to suggest they’re still up for the fight after back-to-back flags and are the team to beat until proven otherwise. Damien Hardwick is still prepared to make the tough calls at selection, with Marlion Pickett absent for much of the ‘A’ game and replaced by uncapped Hugo Ralphsmith. Also notable was Jack Riewoldt, who looked sprightly and dangerous around goal despite the dialogue last year suggesting he was on his last legs. He and Tom Lynch worked in tandem quite well as the latter enters his third year at the club. For the most part though it seems like Richmond are tracking as they should be heading into another season after a slightly shorter pre-season period than 16 other clubs.

THE ONE BIG TAKEAWAY FOR ALL 18 CLUBS AFTER THE SCRATCH MATCHES:
Andrew Slevison
SEN
March 1, 2021
Reigning premiers find further depth
In recent times, the Tigers have made a habit of bringing through fringe and depth players and turning them into regular senior contributors. It has been enormously helpful towards their recent success.
That appeared to be the case yet again with several players performing well in the defeat to Melbourne.
The standouts were 2019 draft pair Will Martyn and Hugo Ralphsmith who both looked comfortable at the level.
Martyn played up around the ball and did not look out of place, particularly with his attack on the contest. Ralphsmith operated off half-back and was busy, providing rebound by using his pace out of defence. He also snuck forward for a late shot on goal.
Jake Aarts was also heavily involved, kicking three goals and attacking the contest with vigour, as he pushed his case for Round 1 selection.
