Surely there comes a tipping point where club must come before an individual. I think thats where we are .
Club has already offered a contract which would make him the highest paid footballer in Richmonds history.
I'll be more pi $$ed at Dusty than anything else . Club has really looked after him since the day he was drafted . How many young footballers live at the presidents house . How many boarders has Eddie had ??
Shame - because I've never seen a better season by a RFC player .
-
Simply put, if he goes then he has no desire for team success, the successful clubs have players that make sacrifices for team success.
If he only wants the money then fair enough i say, thanks for your service and enjoy being miserable for the next 7 years, even with your extra money
-
No.
-
No
The best offer the club has ever made to a player dollar wise and the best shape the football club has been in this century and beyond.
Could not have done any more without sacrificing premierships
-
Only if we don't adequately cover his loss with some shrewed trades.
So yes, probably.....
-
He's unlikely to leave
-
If he leaves wont be critical of the club in the slightest
They've done everything they can
All up to Dusty now,
-
He's unlikely to leave
Agreed.
I don't think it will sit well with him that it will be all about money.....
-
Wont be critical of the club at all. They've done the right thing.
Merkin and Dusty on the other hand I will enjoy bagging for the rest of their careers

Only need look at the example of G Ablett to know that money isn't everything. If he had his time over again their is no way he would leave.
-
No
-
No, I would not be.
Not sure that it makes a difference to his ability to survive financially if he knocks us back.
-
No, but we have got some hard and fast work to do to get into this trade period. Blair you'll certainly earn your pay this trade period.
-
If he walks he might live to regret it.
FFS how much money do you need.
As for the club, I would be more peeed off if they matched the $1.5 million a year.
:cheers

They won't.
It's all up to him now.

This.
Anything more than 1.2 or thereabouts is overs.

He won 2 flags, Brownlow and everything else at the cats
Any one of us would have done the same. If he has his time over again I'm sure he would do it again.
Martin is a different ball game, considering the history of he and the club. Not to mention the gypsy club in question here.
-
Not at all. Love him but Love Richmond more and i want team success so paying way too much for a single player hurts our chances.

Yeah im sure he would
Bloke has been miserable for years
Now hes packing up like a sook to come home

Think Dusty might find out how much Richmond supporters really love him - and how much they actually love the club he's about to walk out of.
For his sake, not for mine or any other supporter, I hope he stays.
-
No
But I will not be happy with the AFL and the 'compensation' we receive.
And not because I think it is inadequate. I just don't get why you have free agency, then offer compensation under that model.
If the AFL really feel there needs to be compensation, then.....
For a restricted free agent, the club signing him should pay the compensation. But not directly to the other club. I am more in favour of them paying a penalty that means everyone else benefits, for example, losing draft picks.
For an unrestricted free agent, no compensation or anything else. Straight forward deal.
-
He's unlikely to leave
Agreed.
I don't think it will sit well with him that it will be all about money.....
Not to mention the pressure of being the only good player at a minnow club. Ablett syndrome. I'm
not worried at all - kid will make the right call

If you believe all the media mail hes about 35% chance of staying 65% chance of leaving.
Not sure if the mail is correct, but its hard to ignore the longer it drags on.
On the balance of things, i think he'll probably go but id rather him go than pay him 1.5mill.
-
Nope, club has handled this extremely well

Media have NO idea.
Never going to be announced before next week so I'm not jumping at shadows yet
-
Given how much PRESTIA and gale make, yes.
-
North are just trying to bust our salary cap. stuff those cow carcass boners or whatever they think they are.
-
Given how much PRESTIA and gale make, yes.
Let's bust their hydrant
-
Given how much PRESTIA and gale make, yes.
Gale is not part of the salary cap - why even say it .

Why be critical of the club.
I would say that they have acted in good faith with player and manager.
Player and manager have had history with this scenario which didn't paint the manager in a good light.
I'm glad if it's reported to be the truth re: last and final offer.
You can't mortgage the house on one player, that can have a huge effect on the clubs pay structure.
The RFC of old would have blown the bank in this situation, finally we know what's required to run a professional out fit.
I personally still think it's a bit more than I would like too see the club fork out, 1m would be tops and 7 years ( if true) a bit too long.
Regardless of waiting for Dustin's announcement I would like too see how he performs this final series, does he stand up as this is when LEGENDS are born.
The only person leaking to the media is his manager, but Ralph knows how to work the media this is his bread and butter.
Balmy's interview on Friday tells me that we won't be budging, our cards are on the table take it or leave it.
Just remember he ain't leaving for success if he chooses Norf, he will be front and centre of a struggling club again...with his massive contract comes massive expectation on and off the field.
Huge investment from Norf, the only way we will know if it's a success for them if they play finals and win premierships with a rebuilding list...I don't think so.
Its interesting that BG stated at least a few months ago that the club would need to know sooner rather than later where his head is at...wonder how that turned out within the meetings that have transpired since that statement, from what I was told he had agreed in principle until Norfs last offer, only weeks ago.
Kudos to the RFC, DR and Balmy.

Hang on a minute....
I don't get people that say if he leaves it's not for success, it's for the money.
We have won 2 finals in 35 years. Nothing is garranteed we are going to be successfull! Especially with the coach we have. We were putrid last year so things can change pretty quickly.
It's just a BS statement.
Dusty probably has a good 6 or 7 years left him him, you don't think a footy club with Dusty in it can turn things around in that time??
As I said, BS statement.
-
Er, yes I would've been!
-
The West Australian are saying this morning that on last nights game, whatever we paid for Dusty was unders.
