Out of contract at the end of the year. Talks between the Hawks and Clarkson have been going on for over a year, no resolution.
Must have a crack at getting him!!!!
-
Should be throwing the kitchen sink at him
-
Nominated Collingwood...... :snidegrin
-
Yep, pay him everything we have....
Collingwood....wouldn't @#$%^&* surprise me. Steady Eddie would have already sounded him out, we will wait until the last minute and say we had a crack at getting him.. :facepalm :yawn
-

And then penny gives a presser sayin how stable Dimmas 8th season will be...
Would be a massive coup for the club ... :pray
If not, offer horse a blank cheque.

You only have to look at what at what the Dockers did to Harvey to get Lyon!! If the RFC had any balls they would do the same.
There must be an exit clause in his contract regarding the amount of losses Hardwick has or Finals he doesn't make/win.
-
Will never ever leave hawthorn, he will re-sign
-
Won't back stab his mate Hardwick and jump in his grave either....
-
Won't back stab his mate Hardwick and jump in his grave either....
Correct, it's an absurd and poorly thought out idea.
Horse would make more sense but how many years does he have left in his contract?
-
Will never ever leave hawthorn, he will re-sign
What's left to do?
-
Will never ever leave hawthorn, he will re-sign

Nobody has won 5 in a row....

Correct :thumbsup
Can say right now with 100% confidence he will not be leaving hawthorn to come to Richmond. Absolutely not one chance.
-
Absolutely love the RFC and supporters, typical, lets look at how he WON"T come to the club or how we CAN"T get him.....this is probably what the RFC do when recruiting and trying to get players in the off season..
Well done, gee what a bunch. :clapping
-
i will caitlin jenner myself, much like the rest of the team, if he was to join Punt Road. Thats how confident i am he wouldnt step foot in this basket case of a club
-
Just goes to show the true position we are on and how pathetic we will be for a very long time! :P
-
Will never ever leave hawthorn, he will re-sign
Absolutely correct
Terms have been agreed to
Beside think you will find he actually contracted for next year via a clause in current contract
2 of the footy shows last night said just because he hasn't put pen on the paper doesn't mean there isn't an agreement in place

Some of us deal in facts aka reality....
Reality is he wont be leaving Hawthorn so instead of hoping he will somehow flick the Hawks for us or anybody else for that matter maybe we should focus on who we could get rather than who we wont
-
Listening to Luke Hodge, he is one of the very few people who could walk straight into coaching. He actually behaves as a captain coach already as he continually marshals his troops on the field.
As a tiger supporter when he was young, I would be making little whispers into his ears at this point telling him we are very interested in looking at him as a future senior coach. He must know Clarkson's drills back to front now too. H would instantly get the respect of the playing group with his accomplishments.
It would be a coup to get him. I would be doing it NOW. Put the suggestion in his head. It's too late by the time you end up sacking the coach at the end of the year and even if we don't, let the suggestion consolidate in his head now.

Reality is we are crap. Fact is Batchelor is crap! But that doesn't stop some from believing he is the answer and we will still finish top 4.

lol at the WPs of the world
Blokes like this pick the board, the board picks the hack coaches and list
No wonder the club has been a basket case for th best part of half a century
Aim low and no one will know your a loser eh lads?
One tip: don't you words like absolutely unless one understand the definition. Yes, the chances are low. Yet stranger things have happened in sport
-
I guess it's because Clarkson is known as a man of his word. And he has a verbal understanding with the club that he'll continue to coach Hawthorn.
So although nothing is impossible, the chances of him coaching Richmond next year would be less than 1 in a million.
I'm not sure why you are blaming the WPs of this world for our situation. I'm not even sure what that means. All I can say is if more people put the unpaid hours that a WP has in the past into the club, we would be far better off than we are now.
-
Offer him three times what the Armadale fairies offer him and see how goes
Wp is a good man and I like him. It was te mentality I was stereotyping
-
I like Clarkson because he punched out an Adelaide supporter (the dream of many football supporters) ... but that's all I like him for.
I'd try to get Hodge as an assistant coach ASAP (2017 or 2018?) & have a succession plan in place to put him in the chair after Hardwick finishes his contract. :pray :pray

Nup never take a player straight out as a coach. Nearly always fails these days, back in the Blighty days fine, but now its suicide.

Assistant coach Hodge yes please, we need to turn over some of our staff badly.

He is different to all those others. Blight never coached a team on field. He was just a great player. Hodge coaches when he is on the field. Look closely at him next time.
He is different. Very different.

No point in wasting time on something you are not going to succeed in. But hey lets go after him with zero chance of getting him and watch a gettable slip through your grasp...

We should have relocated the club to that Gimps creek place or whatever, it's lack of the hard decisions like this that has made us a basket case for the last 30 years

Would you have said the same about Ross Lyon before he walked out on the Saints?
At the end of the day nobody really knows what AC is thinking. We can all speculate but I still think it's ok to discuss it on a forum. Saying there is no point wasting time on something you are not going to succeed in is arrogant IMO.
It's ok to dream WP....

Would you have said the same about Ross Lyon before he walked out on the Saints?
Nope, because Lyon was about selling himself to the highest bidder. Clarkson doesn't need to because he's one of the top 2 paid coaches in the game ;D

Don't confuse supposedly arrogance with practicalities.
always nice to dream but I'd rather dream about who we might have s a shot at then who we don't. Personally, I'd think we'd have more chance getting a Longmire than a Clarkson
Besides dreaming can damage one's health. I was dreaming of a top 4 finish in 2016 and it's done me a lot of emotional harm ;D

Some of us deal in facts aka reality....
Reality is ...
danger was a massive missed opportunity as will be clarko
ask yourself....
- would richmond have the intestinal fortitude to offer a player 10 years like the swans did?
- would they have the balls to steal solid/proven of a coach like Freo did?
Slow and steady doesn't win the race ...
We should have got Danger

could of bought him a helicopter
no thinking outside the box @ RFC

step 1: RFC grow some balls
step 2: take out a loan
step 3: offer him three times whats on the table

Why do you have such trouble understanding that the RFC and every other club in the competition (other than the cats) had absolutely no chance, none, zilch, nada of getting Dangerfield. None; this was a FACT.
Everyone within in the AFL industry knew this, clubs were told this. it was never about money with him. I get that you and others struggle with that concept but for him it wasn't about the money. We and any other club could have offered him $2 mil a year and it wouldn't have made an ounce of difference. Any chance you can get that through your noodle???
So therefore, he wasn't a "missed opportunity" because he was never going to go to any other club other than Geelong, again FACT.
I know it doesn't serve your purpose but that's the reality of that situation. We and the other 9 Victorian clubs were never a chance to get him, that's the reality FACT
-

What made you think that WP about Lyon before he actually left St. Kilda?
He didn't have form in it did he?
A bit of a stretch I recon saying that about Ross. He did what he did but I still think he is one of those old fashion "my handshake is as strong as oak" sort of guys. Sometimes the offer is just to good to refuse. I doesn't make you a bad guy if you are looking after yourself and your family. Clubs are ruthless so it's not always going to work in their favour.
I respect the Freemantle Footy Club for getting such a deal done under everybody's noses. Same goes for The Swans and Buddy.
If you want to be friend with everyone, join FaceBook, but if you want to have a crack and put yourself in the best position possible, friends are the furtherest thing from your mind.
The RFC could learn a lesson from both those situations.
What do they say "nice guys finish last"
-

Correct, it's an absurd and poorly thought out idea.
So true, but the nupties still carry on. its funny how stupidity inspires more stupidity
-
No no no. We aren't taking any risks at punt road, let's not upset the apple cart. We are one big happy family, no risks club. Unless your already working at punt road and you have a mate that needs a job in recruiting, then don't you worry, we will give him or her a nice office & desk with pens & paper and a nice erganomic chair, great hours, free medical & a nice 10% pay increase every year because we look after our people. Let's not forget our mates in the development department, you'll get extra perks because you don't even need to attend the club until April when the craps hit the fan and then we'll give you some balls so you can teach the boys the basic fundamentals of footy all over again. But don't worry because you'll never get sacked because there's very low expectations, no accountability and no pressure to produce results. You can live a comfortable life at punt road because we love you and we want you to stay comfortable for a long time because we are a stable club.
-
Money talks, but I doubt Clarkson is short on cash.
I don't think ANYBODY would be overly interested in leaving any club for RFC at the moment, players or otherwise, except for maybe some of those blokes at Essendrug...
-
Well what do we have here ;D

Clarkson has verbal agreement on new deal
April 21, 2016 11:59 AM
ALASTAIR Clarkson says he has made a verbal commitment to extend his tenure at Hawthorn, with the four-time premiership coach dismissing suggestions he could be poached by a rival club.
Clarkson told AFL.com.au in February he had agreed to a three-year extension until at least the end of 2019, which would give him time to oversee the regeneration of the Hawks' ageing list.
However, the master coach's future came back into the spotlight this week when Fairfax Media speculated Collingwood could have an eye on Clarkson to replace Nathan Buckley, given the Hawks coach was yet to put pen to paper on his new deal.
But on Thursday, Clarkson shut down any suggestion he might quit Hawthorn.
"It's all because of me, not anyone else (that no contract has been signed yet)," Clarkson said.
"I can't even remember if I signed the last contract; what I have done is make a commitment to the club and I don't back away from commitments.
"So I'm going to be a Hawker. As much as I'm flattered that Caro (journalist Caroline Wilson) and others are interested in what's going on with my contract, I made a commitment to the club six weeks ago and I'm going nowhere.
"I made a commitment six weeks ago, and for all those out there that think I might be going somewhere, it couldn't be further from the truth."
The 47-year-old has coached Hawthorn in 263 matches – including five Grand Finals - since taking the reins in 2005 and is closing in on the legendary John Kennedy Snr's 299-game club record for most matches coached.
Clarkson has become a statesman of the game since rebuilding the once-struggling Hawks into a powerhouse and he applauded the AFL's decision this week to scrap Grand Final replays.

It's still ok to talk about it WP.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained. :thumbsup

Talking about it is different to demanding it and saying the club is too weak etc. when it was and is never going to happen

nah, pretty much the same thing round these theses parts

Absolutely agree big tone, fine to have a discussion about options
But to whack the club for not getting him is wrong.
Just like whacking those (not you btw) who said he wasn't leaving the Hawk was a bit over the top ;D

What the? "Got what you wanted" if for a milli second we were a chance of getting him I would have said go for it but the facts were we were never a chance because he had an agreement with the Hawks.
As for the rest of your rant, if that's what you believe, then good for you. You are so far of the mark it's not funny but no point in discussing further because it clearly fails your purpose :thumbsup

We would ruined Clarkson even though he's a great coach.
Back then we had the golden trio of empire building.
Who can forget our president Clinton "letsmakeadeal" Casey. And Ceo, football manager recruiter extraordinaire, Greg "the hammerheads" Miller, and just starting his stellar career in recruiting we didn't miss the opportunity to give Francis "Betamax" Jackson a full time gig just after he was pulling himself over a tape of Jared Oakleigh Nichols. :clapping
Richmond FC, ruining careers since '83. :clapping :gotigers
-
Now that is a team and that is a coach. They know how to win and Clarkson knows exactly what to do with the players he has to win games.
The RFC.... We have a group of very average individuals who play for themselves. We know how to lose and we have nothing. We don't have a clue what positions to put the players in to get the best out of them and we can't win games...
Tale of two cities really.
-
What I really noticed about last nights game was the long kicking. So many times, both sides would win a centre clearance and kick it long deep into their forwardline where the big guys would fly and then if the footy hit the ground, the small guys would do there thing. Pretty simple.
Quick ball movement puts the opposition under the pump especially 20m out from goal. Players start to panic and make mistakes.
I've watched Melbourne play a couple of times this year and they too try and move the ball quickly and kick it long into their forwards.
I hope Dimma is ready for it and more so in hope Dimma watched last nights game and took note.
Everybody in the footy world knows Dimma's game plan is outdated, except him I think!

The slow ball movement is indicative of the players unwillingness to push hard and present. The forward moving options open to the ball carrier are almost non existent.

Fast ball movement promotes player movement. You would be surprised if we moved the ball quicker we would seem to move more. Exciting running footy creates space, overlap and a spare man. And more than not, goals.
