So replace our 2x AA defender with a ruckman who can't mark/spoil/kick?

No. One ruckman and one guy who can tap the ball and do nothing else useful around the ground. So unless he runs off after the tap, we are one man down effectively when he is on the field.

Face it - Half-Step's going to rely on his usual hacks until the season's well & truly cooked and it's not even mathematically possible to make the eight....so barring even more injuries, don't expect the likes of Lennon, McBean, Short, Castagna etc to get decent crack anytime soon..and even then probably not.....after all we still have to show off Yarran and give Conca a chance to tear his hammy again....

With such a putrid start to the year, the only decent player to be dropped is Miles.

Has to show faith in Hampson because he was the answer to our ruck issues and why no further rucks have been recruited. Delusion seems to be rampant at the club at the moment.

Gotta say big Maxy Gawn towelled poor old ivan up big time, not many have criticised ivans game though.  Yes he had a crack but it doesnt help anyone when it costs so much.
Gonna say straight up i dont think Hampson should be getting a game either but ffs his last two with the usual weaknessess was pretty decent.
Also agree we only need one ruckman this week Maric or Hampson who gives a toss.
What a lost opportunity to get a game into both McBean and Chol  There will be no Trengrove or Carlisle  a perfect opportunity to stretch the bastards in the air. If Riewoldt and Vickery dont kick a bag each they ought to give it away.

Two struggling sides who wont make the 8 it was a perfect opportunity to play a lot of kids against a struggling injury riddled opponent with the future in mind. But nope ypou know what we can make finals  mathmatically to hell with development.
It used to pee me off no end now days i just chuckle to myself

I don't think there is any shortage of people calling out Ivan in the sense that his body is cooked and can't compete with ruckman in the top 8. He does try his heart out and he does provide leadership but his leap is pretty much stuffed and his mobility is gone also. Also Max Gawn managed to beat Goldstein in hit outs when they met so we all knew Maric in his first game back was going to get pantsed.

I personally would've given Todd Elton a go as a like for like fill in for Rance.

Why bolster the ruck stocks to combat Port's fearsome ruckman who has a grand total of 1 game of AFL experience.

If Dimma played each player in their best position we might win and Stevie might play ok.
Dusty might win some contested ball and kick multiple goals.
Ellis might run and carry
Vickery might sag off the back of a pack and kick a couple of sneaky ones.
Title: Late change whispers: Tigers may drop one of Maric or Hampson (H-Sun)
Post by: one-eyed on April 29, 2016, 02:59:26 PM
Herald-Sun saying we may make a late change and drop one of Maric or Hampson, given Port will only be playing one ruckman.

-------------------------------------------------

RICHMOND star Jack Riewoldt will play despite a rolled ankle limiting his impact late in last week’s loss to Melbourne.

Riewoldt spent off the ground in the second half but returned to the field in the last quarter after rolling his ankle in a marking contest.

The Tigers spearhead is expected to play in Saturday night’s crunch clash with Port Adelaide after being carefully managed through the week.

Brett Deledio is likely to spend more time deep in attack in his first game back from a debilitating quad injury.

Deledio only graduated to kicking full-size Sherrins — over 40m — a fortnight ago after being limited to children’s footballs early in the recovery process.

But Richmond could be tempted to drop a big man and inject more run with Dougal Howard the sole ruckman in Port Adelaide’s team after Matthew Lobbe’s relegation to SANFL duties.

Ivan Maric played his first game of the season last week after a long lay off battling back problems, while Shaun Hampson — one of two Tiger inclusions this week — missed with a calf complaint.

Would be good if they played Lids in the forwardline and dropped Hampson. No need for two rucks against Port.

Big need for two rucks
It creates a mismatch as they ain't tall down back
They will more than likely given Dixon a run in the ruck as same stage

Exactly why a tall forward should of got a run like McBean, would have been a good in given the circumstance.
Probably better to play Hampson, Chaplin or even Morris in the forward line though.

If you play two rucks the problem is that Hampson is not a good resting forward.

It only creates a mismatch in theory if both rucks are capable, if not you actually hamstring yourself by going in with one less.

A side containing Maric, hampson, Vickery and Chaplin - Geez H Geez that is SLOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

Exactly. Its all good in theory but if they arent up to scratch the theory means nothing. Just like the whole age profile theory at our club

That age profile stuff drives me crazy. Sure, more experienced teams generally do better but it seemed that we were recruiting mature age guys just so we could quickly reach the right age profile as a team. The trouble is it ignored the fact that the players recruited were very average footballers and actually did not allow the team to develop together, another hallmark of success.
I thought Hardwick said no more short cuts at Richmond when he got there. He started off well but lost patience very quickly. Sure we were disadvantaged by the expansion teams but instead of taking the long and patient road he opted for the quick fix. The quick fix has ended up destroying the teams glue now we are faced with almost starting over again.
Someone has to pay for this as we are all heading to our graves waiting for a rebuild from the ground up. We need a proper recruiting, list management and development program fast.
FFS, show them all the door at the end of the year. I for one, am fed up with their incompetence.

The most mind boggling decision of the year.
Both rucks are way to slow to be playing in the same side!

Um.... Hamspud doesn't work. 2 possessions up till half time. Useless prick.
I don't care what anyone says, Hampsud is a potato and shouldn't be playing AFL. A complete joke of the competition to have him. Maric is finished but the brains trust at RFC didn't think we needed a ruckman.  :help :rollin :help

Have to play 2 ruckman
Been a huge issue all year that when Vickery goes into the ruck to relieve
Forward set up is shot
Playing two ruckman allow for Vickery to be a permanent forward
Happy Days

Just wow.

have to admit, im an advocate of playing two rucks. I did seriously reconsider this after jj sprouted it, but i still think it has merit.

The issue is the quality we have . rucks need to ofer something around the ground, and even with two, they still need to at least provide an option up forward.

we have a broken one and a dud

If Griff had a dip then we wouldn't need the Hampson

We bag Hampson, and rightly so, but Griff not being up to it is the issue.

To play 2 rucks one of them needs to be at least competent as KPF. Maric and Hampson are both well below average as forwards.
