Bachar only played one half too. Morris injured in the 3 rd quarter. We were undermanned. Geelong supporters saying they got revenge for last night, well they’re easy pleased.

Stengle minor ankle from first half of last weeks game (didn’t play second half), bolts minor knee from training last week pulled up ok for last rounds game but started to swell after the game. Should both be back next week.

VFL Tigers downed by Cats

Jacob Ballard is one of the integral members of the Richmond VFL program and today he celebrated his 50th game for the club with a trip down the Princes Highway to Geelong.
No one has played more games for the VFL Tigers than Ballard, and his team members set their sights on making it a memorable day for the tough-as-teak utility.
Unfortunately for the Tigers, the trek down the highway won’t be one they’d like to remember, with the Cats dominating after quarter-time to register a 17.7 (109) to 9.3 (57) win.
Both Richmond and Geelong hold spots in the top-four, and the game lived-up to the top billing with the hosts dismantling the Tigers on their way to a 52-point win.
The Cats went about slicing open the Tigers’ water-tight defensive set-up from the outset, by attacking through the corridor and burning the ladder leaders on transition.
Premiership hero, Bachar Houli was a welcome return for the Tigers and he was electric in the opening term.
While he was a touch rusty, he was productive, industrious and composed with ball in hand and a steadying influence in a high tempo first quarter.
Houli was Richmond’s main ball winner in the first term with nine disposals, launching the ball inside-50 on three occasions.
The veteran defender played the first half and was rested after halftime, finishing with 17 disposals in an encouraging return from a long stint out with injury.
Callum Coleman-Jones was another who started the game well, after reading the ball off hands deep in attack and strolling in for Richmond’s opening major of the day.
Geelong hit back with two of the last three majors of the term and took control of the contest thereafter.
The Cats big men asserted their dominance in the second term with Wylie Buzza wreaking havoc in attack and plugging holes in defence.
When the Tigers won the ball, their decision making going inside-50 wasn’t up to their usual standard, which brought the Cats’ interceptors into the game.
Noah Balta and Anthony Miles led the resistance, with Balta again highlighting his scope for improvement, be it down back or in attack.
Miles continuously burrowed his way through congestion, but Richmond lacked the potency on the outside which has been a real strength in 2018.
The midfield warrior ended the day with a team-high 29 disposals and eight clearances.
The Tigers scrapped and scrounged the ball forward, which was in stark contrast to the fluency and ease of the Cats’ ball movement.
The Cats blew the lead out to five goals at the main break on the back of a six-goal-to-two second term.
The Tigers needed a spark to ignite a response in the second half, but unfortunately, Wylie Buzza proved to be a thorn in the Tigers side once again.
Balta was swung forward in the third term and rewarded the move.
He marked strongly on the lead and more importantly kicked truly, which seemed to jolt the Tigers into action.
The budding swingman racked up 22 disposals in what was a warming effort on an icy day.
Milestone man, Jacob Ballard burst clear of congestion moments later and dragged back the deficit to a manageable 24 points, however, that’s as close as the visitors would get.
Buzza nailed his third soon after and the Cats sprinted away with the game.
Shaun Mannagh’s place-kick from 45 metres will make the highlight reel during the week and gave the Tigers’ fans something to cheer about.
Richmond fought and toiled away in the final term but lacked cohesion and connection for the first time in a long time.
Lessons will be learnt, and the Tigers will move on pretty quickly and prepare for next week as they welcome Williamstown to the Swinburne Centre.

Bachar Houli returned from a calf strain in strong fashion, gathering 15 disposals in the first half before being sitting out after the major break.
Houli had nine touches in the first quarter alone, with his influence particularly impactful forward of centre.
Anthony Miles collected 25 disposals, laid five tackles and had six inside 50s in Richmond's 52-point loss to the Cats.
Young tall Noah Balta (20 disposals) continued to impress, while Corey Ellis and Patrick Naish gathered 17 touches apiece.

“Continues to be a real star at this level. He led from the front. His 15 contested possessions was about six or seven higher than anyone on the ground for us. We love what he does and what he brings every week.”
Callum Coleman-Jones
18 disposals, five tackles, 10 hit-outs, one goal and three clearances
“Played through the ruck and forward. He didn’t really impact the game as a forward, but it’s pleasing to see this young man develop as a future ruckman of this Football Club. He was up against an experienced Zac Smith, he seemed to hold his own for most of the game. He’s showing some real growth in that part of his game.”

18 disposals, four tackles, one goal and six handball receives
“Continues his good form as a bit of swingman down back and up forward. Every week now you’re seeing all his strengths on display. If he can just tidy up a couple of the concentration things then he looks like he has a real future.”
Patrick Naish

“Played half-back and a bit of wing. He continues to work on the defensive part of his game, we want the ball in his hand and we want him buying into team defence as well. It was an okay performance.”
Corey Ellis

“He had parts of his game that were really good. I thought up until halftime he was one of our best players, but due to circumstances with a couple of injuries he was forced to go down back. This potentially took him away from the ball, but he’s an important player for us, Corey.”

“Only played the first half, just with his managed minutes, he really impacted offensively. His GPS (numbers) were still one of best while only playing a half. It reflected how hard he worked and potentially how others weren’t working as hard.”

“Not the highs or impact of the previous week where he was outstanding. Only took two marks and just his positioning forward of the ball and judging the distance of the ground was a challenge for him.”

“I thought he was one of our best players. He continued to come forward to defend. Supporting our backline with strong spoils and marking. He lost a couple of critical contests to Wylie Buzza in the first-half but take those out of it and he was probably one of our best players.”

Exactly, then we don't have to go after Tom Lynch.
The more you look at that the less convinced I am that he will fit well at RFC.

Yeah let’s not go after a gun forward that we can get for nothing in the hope that in a few years time that maybe possibly our young key position players will make the grade......

Good players get paid well. If he plays for us he will be getting paid less than any other club would pay him. But hey let’s just not go after him and complain about the Griffiths/Elton/Moore types who fill the role in the mean time while hoping that our young players develop and fill both that role and jacks role in the future.

As for Minties reply to Grace that triggered your initial post - Miller is a defender, at present Balta's best position clearly looks to be down back whilst he still looks miles off it up forward (he even looks better as a mid/wing type than he currently does as a forward) and Coleman-Jones is ruckman first and a forward second.....even of those not mentioned, Callum Moore is a utilty and third tall, second tall in an emergency at best and Chol's in the same boat as CCJ, though he could still also become a defender.
So yes, though I think midfield depth is just as big an issue, Lynch would be very handy for us indeed at this stage. :shh

Midfielders are much easier to get from the draft and take less time to develop, hence like u said lynch would be very handy especially while we are competing.

We have actually scored well for midfileders in the last couple of drafts with Graham and Higgins coming in and taking spots in the top 22

Hopefully once he stops getting assigned a mainly defensive role in the middle or least gains more experience to be able to balance his game more evenly between defence & attack Graham will start to become more of a genuine clearance player but we still need a decent big bodied inside mid or two....peferably tall unless they're a Wines or Shiel clone.... :shh

Agree, think we play an inside mid short although Prestia playing more regularly would help.
