TWO Richmond players are expected to face severe disciplinary action over their social behaviour in recent weeks.
Troubled footballer Daniel Connors and emerging star Dustin Martin are believed to be the two players in question.
The AFL today refused to name the players and Richmond officials could not be contacted.
It is understood the two parties have been in urgent discussion this morning.
Last October, Richmond suspended Connors for 12 weeks and told him to deal with several lifestyle issues.
The 23-year-old sought professional help for alcohol-related behaviour and what he termed as "bad decisions'' he made while drinking.
Connors returned in Round 12 against Greater Western Sydney.
"The club told me I needed to go and change the way I was living my life,'' Connors told the Herald Sun in January.
"I went away and spoke to a few different people and I continue to work on those issues.
"I don't want to go into specifics, but a lot of the time, my alcohol issues led me to make bad decisions which have got me into hot water in the past and it's still getting me.''
Connors told Fox Footy recently he had been living like a "hermit".
A press conference is expected to be called today to confirm the news.

This is humerous. I remember asking why Connors was still here after many incidents that haven't gone public. Clubs fault for not biting the bullet and sacking him sooner. Did they think this stuffhead was actually worth it? Martin, pull your head in. Dan Connors is a loser. Jack likes him too ;D Jack's a wanker but at least he hasn't been involved with this rubbish.

You've got to be kidding. Jetta is miles ahead of Dusty ATM (2012 form). Rohan played some blinders before getting injured. I think you are getting potential confused with exposed form.

Miles ahead? He is in better form, yes. But Dusty is still going OK, just not meeting his potential, which is massive. Had a few goals and around 25 touches against the Crows, i believe. Not bad.
When the going gets tough for the swans, Jetta will go to water and be exposed as a downhill skiing softie. You watch. He is strictly outside and needs his teammates to win the ball for him. Dusty is devastating inside and outside and the type of player who will stand up in finals footy.
Would take Dusty over those two no question.
oh, and Dusty is Dusty. An absolute beast and one of the most exciting young players ever. He fends suckers off like a bull and kicks goals from 60 on the reg. What more do you wackos want?

Tigers sanction players
Richmond player Daniel Connors and the Club have mutually agreed to part ways, while Dustin Martin has been suspended for two matches, after the pair missed training on Tuesday morning, as a result of taking sleeping medication the night before.
While Connors, who is on prescribed sleeping medication, was not drinking alcohol, he had, by his own admission, failed to uphold the standards set by the Club by missing the training session.
As a result, he has decided to walk away from the Club and focus on the next phase of his life.
“We have set a standard as a football club and there is a clear expectation that our players meet that standard. Adhering to training requirements is not negotiable,” said Richmond’s General Manager of Football, Craig Cameron.
“Daniel has failed to meet Club expectations on a number of occasions and this latest incident can’t be considered in isolation.
“Both Richmond Football Club and the AFL Players Association have fully supported Daniel as he has worked through some well-documented issues, and we will continue to work with him while he focuses on his well-being.”
Martin consumed alcohol on Monday night, and also took non-prescribed sleeping medication, before missing the Tuesday morning training session.
Cameron said Martin was extremely remorseful for his actions.
“Dustin understands that missing training is simply unacceptable,” he said.
“We want to send a strong message that we don’t accept this sort of behaviour and Dustin is now fully aware of this.”
“More broadly, our medical staff will continue to educate our entire playing group and emphasise that prescribed medication needs to be taken as directed, and the significant dangers associated with not doing so.”

Asked why Dusty wasn't at the press conference, Cameron said it's not a forum for the players to face.
Connors knew he was gone as soon as he met with the club. No pleading of his case.
Dusty had a little bit of drink and then took non-prescribed sleeping pills he got from a 'friend'. We'll need to further educate Dusty about not taking medication that's not prescribed by the club doctor. Connors took prescribed sleeping pills he was using as prescribed by the club doctor. The club has full confidence in our docs.

Connors is 23, Martin 21. Not a hell of a lot of difference in life experience. Dustin is 21, an adult, and is able to make his own decisions. Oh, and like everyone on this forum, you weren't there, and therefore you have no idea what actually happened.
Interesting to hear all of the opinions of the armchair eccy heads, who know exactly what it takes to come down from a trip. Thanks for the tips. But just because that is what you might have done to come down, does not mean that it has happened in this case.

TROUBLED utility Daniel Connors and star midfielder Dustin Martin have assured Richmond no illicit drugs were involved in the events that saw Connors depart the club and Martin suspended over use of sleeping medication.
The Tigers announced on Tuesday that Connors and the club had "mutually agreed to part ways" after he and Martin missed training on Tuesday morning as a result of taking sleeping medication the night before.
Richmond said in a statement on its website that while Connors was on prescribed medication and had not been drinking alcohol, he had, by his own admission, failed to uphold club standards by missing training.
"As a result, he has decided to walk away from the club and focus on the next phase of his life."
Just two weeks ago, coach Damien Hardwick praised Connors for winning back the trust of his teammates after he fought his way into the senior side for the clash with Greater Western Sydney.
Martin had consumed alcohol on Monday night, and also took non-prescribed sleeping medication, before missing the Tuesday morning training session.
Richmond football manager Craig Cameron told a media conference on Wednesday afternoon that he had been assured by the two players that illicit drugs had not been involved.
He said the Tigers' leadership group had been consulted on and had agreed to the penalties.
"We have set a standard as a football club and there is a clear expectation that our players meet that standard," Cameron said.
"Adhering to training requirements is not negotiable.
"Daniel has failed to meet club expectations on a number of occasions and this latest incident can't be considered in isolation."
Cameron said Connors had not been given an opportunity to plead his case before a decision was made.
The club had been in contact with the player, his management and family, and would continue to support the 23-year-old as he worked through his off-field issues.
Martin will miss critical matches against Melbourne and Gold Coast, compounding the losses earlier this week of Jake King, Dylan Grimes and Tyrone Vickery to injury, and Daniel Jackson to suspension.
"There's no doubt that these sanctions have an impact on our on-field playing ability, but in the long-term we want to be a club that sets standards and sticks by them," Cameron said.
"Dustin understands that missing training is simply unacceptable.
"We want to send a strong message that we don't accept this sort of behaviour and Dustin is now fully aware of this."
Cameron said he had had no previous concerns over Martin's off-field behaviour, and the onballer "hadn't missed a beat at training".
He said Martin had had "a couple of bourbon and Cokes" and taken sleeping medication on the night before failing to turn up at training.
The medication had not belonged to Connors.
Cameron said the club would counsel Martin about taking prescription medication before first consulting with the club doctor.
"Dustin's very remorseful for his actions and he's upset that he's let the football club down."
Martin and a teammate were playing pool at a friend's house on Monday night before staying the night at Connors' home.
Cameron said Martin had taken the medication because he couldn't sleep.
"This is Dustin's first sanction by the football club.
"I think two matches is a fair penalty, but it's a penalty we want to make sure sends a message."
Agent Ralph Carr, who manages Martin's affairs, was bunkered down at Punt Rd as Richmond officials made a call on his client's penalty.
"Look, he's very disappointed in himself," Carr said.
"You know, the guy's really upset that he's let the club down and his teammates down. I'll leave it at that."
Connors played 29 matches for the Tigers after being drafted with pick No. 58 in the 2007 NAB AFL Draft. He played two matches this season after three in an injury-plagued 2011.

Dusty is lucky to just get 2 weeks. The Club could have really been tough to make a statement to the rest of the playing group and suspended him for the rest of the season. Stevie Johnson was suspended for 6 weeks (?) at the start of the 2007 season by the Geelong leadership group to get his head finally screwed on.

Irony isn't lost on me that they have recommended serial offender Connors be sacked and that one members said group is a serial offender when it comes to get reported and subsequently suspended. Also ironic said leadership group member's name is also Daniel.

Hardwick said he believed both penalties were appropriate, and the Tigers needed to take a tough stance with errant players if the club was to reach the heights they wanted.
Hardwick also said he had had no concerns over Martin's off-field behaviour prior to this week's events.
"This club has been in the wilderness for 20 years and we've got to do everything better than everyone else to get back where we need to belong," Hardwick said.
"We make no apologies for the hard stance."
The duo's sanctions will test the Tigers' playing stocks ahead of their clash with Melbourne at the MCG on Saturday.

'We need to get better': Hardwick unapologetic over Tiger sanctions

Richmond coach Damien Hardwick is making no apologies for the Tigers' sacking of errant midfielder Daniel Connors for missing a training session after taking sleeping tablets.
"This club, for whatever reason, has been in the wilderness for about 20 years and we have got to do everything better than everyone else to get back where we need to belong," Hardwick said before training at Victoria Park this morning.
"We are getting this group to play a brand of football that we think is going to take us to premiership success. When that may be we are not too sure, but a lot of that comes through the character of the group and the standards you set.
"We don't apologise for taking a hard stance. We need these guys to get better, we need to get better as a club and this is the way we are going to do it."

"Football's not for everyone.
"...I've got no doubt the short-term pain will be worth the long-term gain."
Tuesday's indiscretion was one too many for Connors, 23, who is yet to decide whether he will pursue his football career at another club. But unlike his previous misdemeanors, which included a boozy brawl with former teammate Ben Cousins two seasons ago, no alcohol was involved and the sleeping tablets had been prescribed by the club doctor.
His teammate, Dustin Martin, who had been out with him on Monday night also took sleeping tablets, which were not prescribed, after he had several bourbon and Cokes while playing pool at a friend's place.
Martin also arrived an hour late to training and was subsequently banned for two matches, his first sanction at the club.
Although on face value it may seem being axed from the club and banned for two matches are harsh penalties for sleeping in, Hardwick assured reporters there was nothing more sinister lurking beneath the sanctions.
"We ask the players to be honest on the field and we ask them to be honest off the field. I asked the blokes straight in the eye what happened and they gave us the truth, so that (inference) is absolute rubbish," he said.
Hardwick said he had no concerns about Martin's off-field behaviour in the past six to 12 months.
"Most 21-year-olds are pretty up and about and Dustin is probably no different. They live a pretty subdued lifestyle, the guys in the AFL system," he said.
"There's not many 21-year-olds that get the scrutiny of AFL footy and many, like the rest of you guys at 21, you make mistakes."
Hardwick admitted he was disappointed Martin had mixed alcohol with taking medication he was not prescribed for, and said that was unacceptable - not just for an AFL player, but for society in general.
"He's learnt a very harsh lesson, the kid. He obviously knew that I was dissappointed and more importantly his 21 teammates that face the opposition this week are really disappointed that he's not out there."

Last week on 360 Bob Murphy was talking about Minsen and his sanctions. He said while everyone was disappointed, at the end of the day he was still a teammate, and teammates are there for each other. I hope our group found the right mix of letting Dusty know just how disappointed we all are, but that he isn't alone and shouldn't alienate himself as he is still a part of the team. The worst is yet to come. Opposition teams and supporters will be giving it in spades for a long time to come. I hope the group has the knackers to stand by him and that he has a thick skin.

in the last 7-8 years collingwood have probably had more off field incidents amongst established players than us.
the poor culture at richmond was not one of off field misdemeanors, but one lacking team values and work ethics, on the football side of things.

the poor culture at richmond was not one of off field misdemeanors, but one lacking team values and work ethics, on the football side of things.

our "culture" problem has been match day, not minor off field indiscretions.
Compare that to, say, st kildas party culture that blight got sacked for trying to change; now there is a club with off field culture issues

Culture is fine. The young blokes aren't being influenced by anyone. A workmate (his brother was a teammate of O'Hanlon's in U18s) was out with O'Hanlon a few weeks or so ago until about 1AM. Despite much encouragement, O'Hanlon didn't have a single drop of alcohol. Connors and Martin are good mates. Like Tony Shaw said on AFL League Teams the other night, they're the type of kids who sit at the back of the classroom. You're always going to get a few and it's not reflective on the rest of the group.

No, I think it says more about a blokes character than it does our culture. Connors should have been sacked long ago. Definitely the clubs fault that they didn't stuff him off earlier. Roberts is a fat sook and Troy Taylor belongs in a prison. The club took a risk on those guys and it didn't pay off. Maybe we should be bagging Jackson or Cameron or whoever does the "character testing" poo when drafting blokes? They've obviously made a few cock ups.
Schulz drinking and driving just shows someone that made a bad mistake. Johnson taking a leak on a wall is nothing.

Richmond's Trent Cotchin says teammate Dustin Martin will learn lesson from suspension

DUSTIN Martin's two-week club-imposed suspension "ripped his heart out", but teammate and leadership group member Trent Cotchin says the midfielder will emerge from the experience a better person and player.
Cotchin said he felt for Martin, and Daniel Connors who left the Tigers this week, but said the club's culture was more important than any individual within it.
The pair missed a training session this week after each took a sleeping tablet the night before, with Martin also admitting he had consumed alcohol.
"Dusty ... it has probably ripped his heart apart, to be totally honest," Cotchin said after Richmond's 23-point win over Melbourne at the MCG on Saturday.
"He loves the boys, that's probably his most enjoyable part of football and obviously playing as well.
"It would be killing him inside and he knows he has let a few of the guys down, but we will support him through it and make sure he comes out of it better on the other side. He will come back fitter and stronger and give us another lift when he gets back."
Martin, who saw the match from the grandstand, did a punishing schedule of running laps on Saturday.
Cotchin, who said he had texted Connors, said the club had had to make a tough call.
"We had to make some tough decisions ... and we think we have made the right one," he said.
"Hopefully we have set a standard. Our culture has taken some big steps. We are making sure we stamp it (bad behaviour) out."
Richmond general manager of football Craig Cameron admitted the club was trying to educate Martin on "simple life skills".
"Dustin needs to have structure in his life," Cameron said on SEN. "The times that we might become a little bit concerned are when the season ends and there's not the training programs ...
"But we're working with him constantly to try and put some structure into his life, and to be more active with some of the things he's doing away from football."
Cameron said the club's player development manager was working with Martin on "simple life skills like how to cook, how to clean his house ... we work with Ralph Carr, his manager, to make sure that he can put proper budgets together and manage his money.
"For a man who earns the sort of money he earns at his age, he needs to understand that that's not going to happen forever, or may not happen forever."
Cotchin said he was pleased with the way the Tigers had responded.
"Our group is really close ... and this week has only galvanised us," he said.
