TIGER ALERT EMAIL
IMPORTANT MEMBERS INFORMATION
As a result of the Club's determination to ensure that we regularly, and reliably, communicate with our members, a decision was made to change the CRM (Customer Relationship Management) software that we've been using.
This change will ensure that we can more proactively follow up incorrect personal information of our members, communicate issues to our members in a more timely, professional and efficient manner, and, ultimately, keep our members better informed of important Club information. The CRM transition has been underway since the middle of the year. This e-mail is the first time the Club has communicated with you using the new CRM software.

Not a bad slogan either I might add even if we are 2-3 years away from playing finals.

Hopefully we soon get to see the new membership video they showed last night at the B&F. The reports posted on the RFC site said it was impressive.

I was stirring Essendon supporters before I heard the slogan.

The showed a "snippet" of the Membership campaign
About 30 seconds in all - ended with a Tiger Growling - it was the best thing I've seen form them in a long time

It was just such a simple and inspired concept: Take a bag of footy's along to the zoo, chuck them in the Tigers enclosure, and use the footage of him tearing them to pieces. Brilliant!
-
I think that one was in the eighties rolls. I remember I was still at school and the old man knew someone involved in the making of it and the tigers actually ate most of the footies . I may still even have some posters from that campaign

Sounds good. I hope we match the hype.

Can someone slap that stirring tiger on the rs with a bit of 4x2

Q. When can we renew memberships?
A: We're looking at mid-october, we'll send out all details via web or email shortly.

I love the new slogan....10/10.

Did we even have one this year.
-
What was the Tiger doing this year? Hmm, well we ditched 14 players and next year the Tiger is stirring..... so it must of been... "The Tiger has evacuated it's bowel and is having a kip...Get on board 2009"
-
I hope the club post the memberships out in October before we pay. To activate the code, we just have to pay for it. That's how the Hawks do it anyway 8)

Membership Survey Results:
In early 2010, several focus groups for members were facilitated by the Club. At the conclusion of these focus groups, an online survey was e-mailed out to all members, who had a correct e-mail address, enabling them to provide valuable feedback to the Club.
The primary focus of the survey was to seek feedback on the Club’s “Reward & Recognition” (R&R) program. The R&R program provides rewards in the way of caps, scarves, key rings and invites to special member functions, for RFC members who have maintained their membership over extended periods.
This program has been in place for quite a few years now and, while the program is seen as vitally important, it does come at a significant cost to the Club. Therefore, it was important for the Club to identify ways to improve the program and, potentially, save money on elements of the program that were not seen as important to our members.
The following is a summary of the research outcomes:
Reward & Recognition
• 29% of members said they wanted the (R&R) to remain as it is currently, with the choice of a cap or scarf.
• 33% said they would prefer a $10 voucher to the Tiger Den to contribute towards purchasing something of their own choice.
• 12% were unsure of what they wanted.
• 26% said they would prefer the Club saved the money and put it towards improving resources within the football department.
There was a 37% response rate to the survey, which is incredible. Clearly, the results are from a strong cross-section of Richmond members.
As a result of this feedback, the Club will offer all members a choice in 2011. Members, who are entitled under the R&R program, can have their choice of:
1. Cap or scarf
2. $10 voucher to the Tiger Den
3. Elect to leave the money with the Club, to be invested into football department resources.
Recognition of membership on merchandise
Research also indicated that recognition of consecutive years of membership was important, however, not necessary with regards to merchandise. This is an important point as research also indicated that members, who are new to the Club, found it intimidating to wear merchandise that highlighted they had been members for only a limited time therefore making them feel less important.
As a result of this feedback, recognition of consecutive years of membership will be removed from caps and scarves and recognised on lanyards and membership cards.
In the focus groups, another suggestion was made that long-term members should have the ability to purchase quality merchandise, made available only to members within that membership category. As a result of that feedback, the merchandise team are developing a range of Gold, Platinum and Yellow & Black jackets that will be available only to members of those specific categories. The success or otherwise of this range of clothing will be measured and assessed in 2011.
Membership Moratorium
The Club also investigated the possibility of a moratorium, whereby former members could return and have their previous years of financial membership recognised. In effect, this meant that someone who was a member in 2006, 2007 and 2008, could come back to the Club in 2011 and, rather than being recognised as a first-year member, they would receive fourth-year member recognition.
The Club was considering a moratorium for 2011, however, feedback from the survey indicated that only 63% of members were fully supportive, with 17% opposed. The remaining 20% were undecided. That figure of 17% was seen as to high to make such a decision and, as a result, the moratorium will not go ahead.

Junior Membership categories for 2011
Throughout the 2010 season, the Richmond Football Club has undertaken a major review of junior membership categories and the associated benefits that come with them.
As a result of this review, which has included a thorough competitor analysis to determine what other clubs are offering, focus groups, and consideration of feedback provided by parents of junior members, the following changes have been made for 2011 . . .
Baby Tiger Cub (0-2 year-olds)
Following feedback about the membership merchandise that is included in Baby Tiger Cub memberships, the age category for this membership has changed. This membership category is now for 0-2 year-olds and will include a baby bib, bottle cooler, beanie, booties and a scarf.
Tiger Toddler (3-5 year-olds)
Changes to the Baby Tiger Cub age categories allow for a new membership category aimed at 3-5 year-olds to be introduced. The Tiger Toddler membership will include face paint and a lunch pack containing lunch box, drink bottle and a towel.
Cotchy’s Cubs (6-14 year-olds)
By popular demand, Cubs Club will be revamped, with Tiger star Trent Cotchin taking over as the ambassador for 2011. Aimed at children aged 6-14, Cotchy’s Cubs will be invited to a clinic at Punt Road, hosted by Trent Cotchin and other Richmond players and staff. In addition, Cotchy’s Cubs will receive a beanie, a small stress footy, an inflatable hand and a sling bag, all branded with the Cotchy’s Cub logo.
Cotchy’s Cubs – upgrade (6-14 year-olds)
For a small additional fee, Cotchy’s Cubs can upgrade and receive an extra football clinic throughout the year, conducted on the MCG by RFC junior coaches.
Coaches Crew 15-17 year-olds
In acknowledgement of the fact that teenagers aged 15-17 don’t necessarily want to be associated with junior membership categories, this membership has been revamped to focus more on giving teenagers a better understanding of what it takes to be an AFL player. Coaches Crew members in 2011 will take part in a football clinic hosted by RFC coaches at Punt Road. At the conclusion of that clinic, all Coaches Crew members will receive a presentation from RFC recruiting staff, outlining what attributes they look for in junior footballers, and where junior footballers’ attention should be focused, with regards to skill acquisition, strength and fitness.
Given this will be unprecedented access to AFL recruiting staff, we are expecting the category to sell out quickly, as numbers will be limited. In addition, Coaches Crew members will receive a sports bag and water bottle.
Note that all categories are non-ticketed, meaning that they do not include venue access for games. Junior ticketed memberships will be discounted for Cotchy’s Cubs and not required for Baby Tiger Cubs and Tiger Toddlers, who will be admitted to grounds free of charge due to their age.

Committed Tiger Membership - no more fees
Richmond has made the football world sit up and take notice with its bold resurgence during the second half of the 2010 season. The Tigers were winless after nine rounds, and a clear last on the league ladder. Since then, however, a series of stirring wins has given the Yellow and Black faithful great cause for future optimism.
The Tigers play an exciting brand of football, and we want all our members to continue their membership in 2011 with a team on the rise. Direct-debit membership is the most cost effective and efficient way to play your part in the future success of the Club. To streamline the process, the Club has made the following changes to direct-debit membership in 2011:
Membership payment plans for 2011
• In 2011, our direct-debit option will no longer be referred to as Rolling Tiger, but, instead, ‘Committed Tiger’.
• The Club is encouraging all its members to become a Committed Tiger direct-debit member, which will no longer incur a $12 fee.
• The Committed Tiger will have two membership payment options – membership deducted in one annual payment, or dividing your annual fee into 11 monthly instalments. Both of these options will automatically roll over from season to season, taking the hassle out of renewing your membership.
• All members who renew their membership on a Committed Tiger plan, will go into the draw to win a table for 10 at a Richmond President’s Function in 2011, valued at $3500.

2011 membership price freeze
richmondfc.com.au
Thu 07 Oct, 2010
Richmond’s 2011 membership pricing for all match day access and reserved seat memberships will remain at the same prices as in 2010.
The announcement was made as the Club prepares to launch the online portion of its 2011 membership campaign in the next few weeks.
“We committed through the process of relocating two of our home games interstate in 2011, which would protect the rights of our members,” Richmond CEO Brendon Gale said.
“We believe that by providing two replacement games, both at the MCG, as well as fixing membership prices, we have well and truly delivered on this promise.”
Season ticket holders who do not purchase reserved seating will now have access to a minimum of eight home games at the MCG, as well as the two replacement games at the MCG. The remaining home game will be played at either the MCG or Etihad Stadium.
Reserved Seat holders will have access to eight home games at the MCG (the same amount of home games the Club hosted at the MCG in 2010), as well as two replacement games at the MCG where bays will be reserved and allocated in preference of reserved seat membership, as well as a further game which will be played at either the MCG or Etihad Stadium.
The very best bays will be reserved for premium plus members, followed by premium members. Access Plus reserved seat members will not be affected as their memberships do not include reserved seating at any venue away from home games at the MCG.
In addition to prices being fixed across 11-game access and reserved seat memberships, home and away members who purchase a membership that provides access to home games and all remaining games in Victoria will actually have their price reduced.
“Obviously the 17-game Victorian membership now becomes a 15-game Victorian membership in 2011, so we wanted to ensure that home and away members were adequately compensated for that,” Gale said.
A full list of membership pricing and membership categories will be made available to members in the next two weeks.
“Historically we have been required to wait for the fixture to be released before we could go on sale with memberships. This year, we are in a position where we can launch our membership sales without the fixture so we intend to do that electronically (via e-mail) in the next two weeks. At this stage, the fixture may not be finalised until early November and we do not want our members having to wait that long before they renew,” Gale said.
Members can expect an e-mail in the next two weeks with their renewal offer, as well as log in details to the Club’s brand new membership website.

I know I have debated this with WP and I think his points are valid but I must say that the club is certainly making every effort to deliver on it's promises of communication, transparency and value for members.
And can anyone PM me with an email address for either Benny Gale (preferred) or Cain Liddle if they have one please?

Hmmmm....looks like the club has conceded we will have 5 interstate away games in 2011 - great reuslt for people in Vic who lose 2 games >:(
Which brings me too....
Llet me get this straight this year for 1 of my memberships I paid for a 17 game Vic membership at what ever price it was.
In 2011 I will pay the same price as 2010 but will receive 2 less games in the process - and I am supposed to be better off and excited they haven't put the prices up - how could they when I receive to less game sin Victoria

I am not sure about the value smokey in regards to the 17 game (now 15 game) m'ship = less games in 2011 at the same price as 2010 - means it is costing you more because you are getting less
-
I'm still fairly philosophical that there aren't many sports in the world that you get the opportunity to watch 2/3 of your team's matches in your home town and get access to every game through your club membership. Even interstate sides don't get that luxury.
I believe they were also referring to the 11 game memberships when they talk about the season ticket memberships as all they refer to is the home games.
There's still a chance the 17 (or 15) game memberships will drop in price as there are less away games you have to pre-pay for. Perhaps that's a little optimistic, but you never know.
-
The way I read it WP, the price of the 17 game membership will reduce
In addition to prices being fixed across 11-game access and reserved seat memberships, home and away members who purchase a membership that provides access to home games and all remaining games in Victoria will actually have their price reduced.

Hope so Wildride but being a cynic I'll believe it when I see it ;D
Although I reckon it's a disgrace if we have 5 interstate away games to deal with :banghead

Yeah, I wasn't thinking of the impact of the 17 game membership when I wrote that WP. You would like to see the cost reduce as some compensation because they can't offer you any more RFC Victorian games.

2011 Membership News
richmondfc.com.au
Direct Debit
After a lengthy review of the direct debit membership, the Club has made a number of significant changes which will ensure members can pay their membership in a more economical manner.
No Fees - The most important of all these changes is that the $12 administration fee for paying your membership by direct debit has been abolished.
Monthly Payments – Monthly payments will now be drawn 11 months of the year instead of 12. This means that direct debit payments for 2011 will not commence until November 28 and will run through until September 28, 2011.
Win a table for 10 at a Presidents Function in 2011 – The traditional early bird offer for members who renew in October and November has been replaced in 2011 with a special offer to members who renew on direct debit. If you renew your membership on direct debit by November 28 (In time for the first debit) you will go into the draw to win a table of 10 at a Presidents Function in 2011, valued at more than $3,500.
All members who join on direct debit will be automatically entered into the draw.
Reward & Recognition Program – 2011
As most members would be aware, the Club underwent a major review of our Reward & Recognition (R&R) program for 2011. To refresh the memories of members, the results were as follows
* 29% of members said they wanted the R&R to remain as it is currently, with the choice of a cap or scarf.
* 33% said they would prefer a $10 voucher to the Tiger Den to contribute towards purchasing something of their own choice.
* 12% were unsure of what they wanted.
* 26% said they would prefer the Club saved the money and put it towards improving resources within the football department.
As a result of this feedback, the Reward & Recognition Program has been revamped in 2011 and will provide members with the flexibility they have requested. In addition to other benefits, all members who have been members continuously for three years or more will have the following options;

Membership Merchandise in 2011
As a result of feedback that stemmed from the research conducted into the Club’s Reward & Recognition program, a decision has been made by the Club to release a “Members only” range of jackets and polos.
“Longer term members told us loud and clear that they didn’t really value the caps and scarves that we provide complimentary with memberships each season,” Retail Manager Alex Steel said.
“What they also indicated was the desire to be able to purchase good quality merchandise which was only available to loyal, long term members.”
As a result of this feedback, the Club has taken the unique step of releasing the coaches jackets, which are not available for purchase, to be sold to Gold, Platinum and Yellow & Black members. Members from each of these categories will be able to purchase the coaches jackets, which will be adorned with their membership category of either Gold, Platinum and Yellow & Black members.
“It ticks all the boxes when it comes to the feedback from the members. It is unique, as the coaches jackets can not be purchased from our retail outlet, it highlights their membership category, therefore making it available to only long term members, and it is top quality when it comes to fabric and design,” Steel said.
In addition to long term members’ jackets, the Club will also take the unique step of selling Social Club members polos, which will be embroided with members’ Social Club membership number.
“We were looking for a point of difference between Richmond and other football clubs. Our brand new Social Club, located at our home ground right beside the MCG, provides that point of difference and we wanted to celebrate that through a range of merchandise,” Steel said.
In 2011, all members renewing as Social Club members will have the ability to purchase an RFC members’ polo which the Club will embroid free of charge with their Social Club membership number. With numbers set to be capped in the Social Club, these polos will start a tradition with Social Club members who will not want to forfeit their unique membership number.
Details on how to purchase from the members’ merchandise range will be included with renewals.

Well done to the RFC for giving members a choice of what they want. I'd probably go for a new cap as I hadn't had a new one for about 3 years and they are too small for my head :lol. Btw has anyone here seen these members' jackets?

Well done to the RFC for giving members a choice of what they want. I'd probably go for a new cap as I hadn't had a new one for about 3 years and they are too small for my head :lol. Btw has anyone here seen these members' jackets?
Fantastic initiative by the club!
Want every cent of my membership to go into the club and not merchandise, the club needs the coin.
Willy P, you must just about be ready for that morning tea ;D
No-one has seen the jackets as they are not in stock. I believe they are due in once M'ship renewals start to flow through
And yes I need to get to the Club and I will going next week.
Apologies to all OER Tipping Comp winners for the delay - I have been interstate during the past week for family reasons

Regarding members jackets the guys at the merch shop said they should be available in the new year :thumbsup
They are hoping for other stuff before Xmas but I rekon that will depend on when we lock away our new major sponsor (or sponsors) - can't get jumpers made until the sponsor side of it is sorted

In early November will be the official membership launch according to RFC twitter tonight.
::) :-\ :banghead
So late October has become early Nov ....hmmmm
2 possible reason :-\
1/ waiting to see the final 2011 draw and how many interstate away games we've been stitched up for >:( ;D
or
2/ waiting to lock in the new sponsors seeing our current 2 are still our major sponsors until 31st Oct
Still think it's poor stupid North have launched theirs
-
nth may have had theirs but it was lost amongst all events happening at this busy time
and nth are desperate but still wont find a huge memb base
no rush for us, as long as we get it right

You are correct X, North don't have big supporter base but they trying to build on what momentum they picked up in 2010 - new coach etc
We have massive supporter base and we should be doing the same to seize the positivity that the club has at the moment.
I also agree about getting it right but saying a fortnight ago we'd be ready to go by late October and now it's early November doesn't look good

I spoke to someone from the Club today and they said the 2011 membership campaign will be officially launched tomorrow. The renewals will be all sent out in a couple of weeks time.

Here is it......

We have 1,122 members at this stage

Hmm...
Under Operation 10,000 and then More Info there is an interesting story about Gregor Samsa
More Info
One morning, when Gregor Samsa woke from troubled dreams, he found himself transformed in his bed into a horrible vermin. He lay on his armour-like back, and if he lifted his head a little he could see his brown belly, slightly domed and divided by arches into stiff sections. The bedding was hardly able to cover it and seemed ready to slide off any moment. His many legs, pitifully thin compared with the size of the rest of him, waved about helplessly as he looked. "What's happened to me? " he thought. It wasn't a dream.
His room, a proper human room although a little too small, lay peacefully between its four familiar walls. A collection of textile samples lay spread out on the table - Samsa was a travelling salesman - and above it there hung a picture that he had recently cut out of an illustrated magazine and housed in a nice, gilded frame. It showed a lady fitted out with a fur hat and fur boa who sat upright, raising a heavy fur muff that covered the whole of her lower arm towards the viewer. Gregor then turned to look out the window at the dull weather. Drops

I hope that 1122 is only the ones we've processed so far. You'd think we have more than that on the automatic renewal.

The site is malfunctioning as well infamy, its not processing, I tried twice and it wouldn't accept my details. It says an error occured, come back latter.

I don't think it's finished yet. The Video etc hasn't been added yet.

Notice Tiger Insider now includes 3-games. Presumably these will now be included in our ticketed membership. Well done RFC :thumbsup. I think Ramps was the first to suggest including a game or 3 in our non-ticketed memberships a couple of years back.
-
Good to see Dick Smith and Luxbet still listed down the bottom as sponsors. :thumbsup

I managed to logon ok. I had to get them to send me my password though. I had no idea what it was. Just used the forgot my password link.

Only until 31/10/10 ;D
Their deals expire then - Dick Smith is staying in a smaller role not sure on LuXbet
Disappointing to see Reebok are still listed instead of our newbie KooGa

Time will tell.
MCC-Tigers membership has entry to 3 games but has never been counted. I've got no idea how the AFL count some, like Hawthorn and Collingwood's, yet not others. I have a feeling neither do the AFL.

yes thats the case but the club is doing fantastic stuff for the supporters now. this package from what i can is still the same price as last year. for 3 games the club should have made it a $99 membership, nevertheless at least we have management who care about the supporters and the working class roots of the club :clapping
-
I don't think their major sponsorships end officially until the end of the month? and in any case they will still be partners (downgraded sponsors) of the Club next year. So media reports that we lost two sponsors was incorrect.
The site has now removed the 10,000 campaign which had the pages that weren't finished. We'll push past 50k members if we can get anywhere near adding 10k new members :thumbsup.

Easy, Tigers
By Tony Greenberg

Becoming a Richmond member has never been easier, with the launch of the Club’s new, user-friendly membership website.
The site has been custom-built by a digital agency, providing the Tiger faithful with straightforward access to purchase their 2011 memberships.
Simply by clicking on the ‘Help me select my package’ tab, you can quickly identify the exact benefits you’re after, to create your ideal 2011 membership experience.
The ‘Member Zone’ enables you to update your own details on-line, at your convenience, without having to call the Club.
A key focus of Richmond’s 2011 membership drive is ‘Operation 10,000’, with the Tigers aiming to attract 10,000 new members for next season.
As part of Operation 10,000, the Club will be releasing a viral campaign that you can forward to family and friends, encouraging them to become Tiger members in 2011. Member referrals will be rewarded with fantastic prizes, to be announced at the Club’s membership launch on November 12.
“2011 is the second year of the Club’s five-year plan, and our goal is to sign 46,000 members. We are calling on our fans to get right behind Damien Hardwick and his group of talented, young Tigers, as they continue their exciting journey,” said Richmond’s Membership Manager, Cain Liddle.

Reebok's sponsorship also runs out Oct 31.
Exactly so why are our players running around in KooGa gear at training?
However, if you go to the Corporate Partners page you will find that Reebok has gone and been re-placed by KooGa
And BTW someone needs to explain to the Club that Platinum Sponsors are usually considered higher up the pecking order than Gold Sponsors. All 2nd tier sponsors like Nissan, KooGa are listed as "Gold Partners" while the 3rd tier are listed as "Platinum Partners" :-\ ;D

They haven't sent any out yet
All they have launched is the website. If they have your email address they sent out an email saying they were available. It seems they are trying to get people to renew via the internet
I have been told they will be sent out but I have no idea when. So I guess people without the net wait :-\ Unless you feel like calling them
Cut off date for reserved seat renewals is Dec this year

Or those with Rolling Tiger (or whatever it's called now) can just sit back and do nothing.

There's the Club's big multimedia launch this week (Thursday I believe) where they'll publicly show off the video presentation shown off at the B&F. When I spoke to the Club two weeks ago they said they'll be sending out the renewals around about this week in conjunction with this launch.

Pathetic really, not everyone is multimedia savvy for a start.
Then you have me! I would like to see what the coaches jackets look like before renewing so I can purchase at the same time. What about the pre-season tops? Who would be buying these thing for Xmas presents if they were ready? Still not very well run in this day and age, not sorry :banghead
By the time I get the forms Iwill be up for a 4 figure payment with, what? How long to pay a week (Reserved seats)

You cannot order the jackets yet CUB even if you've renewed on line. And no they aren't ready. And from what I understand they are not going to be something you can just rock up and by from what I got told when I was at the Tiger Den a month or so back they wont be ready until early (Feb) in 2011. There's no KooGa gear available as yet and again the guys at the Den said Dec maybe, early New Year definitely....

If they send out renewal this week then you will have at least 3 weeks for the reserved seat cut off.

"The introduction of “3121, The Tiger Sanctum”, which is a new coterie membership for 2011, has been very well received ,” Liddle said.
“This category has already surpassed our original forecasts, which were for 400 members. “At this stage, it appears the “sold out” sign will go up on this category some time in January. So, if you are considering joining this exciting new coterie, you need to contact the Club quickly.”

Operation a success
By Tony Greenberg
Tue 14 Dec, 2010
Richmond’s “Operation 10,000” is off to a flying start, with more than 2000 new Tiger members already signed up for next season.
The Club launched Operation 10,000 in November, aiming to sign 10,000 new, or lapsed, Richmond members by the 2011 cut-off date for memberships.
As an incentive, the Tigers are providing over $25,000 in cash and prizes to the members, who assist with this unprecedented membership referral campaign.
And, Operation 10,000 has struck an instant chord with the Tiger faithful . . .
“We are delighted with the initial response to the campaign,” said Richmond’s Membership Manager Cain Liddle.
“So far, we’re tracking well ahead of projections, and the priority now is to build on this early momentum.
“We urge those members, who aren’t aware of how the referral campaign works, to follow the prompts to Operation 10,000 on the Club’s website (richmondfc.com.au), or call the membership department on 1300 742 466.
“Anyone who refers a new member by the end of January, goes into the draw to win lunch with Matthew Richardson . . .”
Overall membership sales at Richmond are up on the corresponding stage last year and are on a par with the record-breaking 2009 figure. The Tigers currently have 19,220 signed members, as they strive for their goal of 46,000 members in 2011.

I chose not to receive a cap or a voucher. Rather the club spend the money on the footy dept.
-
I chose not to receive a cap or a voucher. Rather the club spend the money on the footy dept.
I may not even use the voucher, however the way I figure it, it will most likely encourage me to spend some money in the Tiger Den of which about 40% goes to the club. This way they'll probably end up making more out of me than if they hadn't provided the voucher in the first place, or donated that $10 to the football dept.
-

I did this as well but Tucker does have a good point. A $10 voucher forces you to spend more.

Yeah good points, wasn't haven't a go at you gougers ;D
I'd never use the voucher, it'd just sit on my desk until i threw it out

It would appear that the Caps & Scarves aren't being sent out in the Mail this year CUB - they are sending out vouchers that enables you to pick them up at the Tiger Den or at games.

Price freeze a win for Tiger members
richmondfc.com.au
Thu 06 Jan, 2011
Richmond is one of just two Melbourne-based Clubs not to increase the cost of its Adult 11, Concession or Family membership packages for the upcoming 2011 season.
While other Melbourne-based Clubs increased basic package prices by up to $20, the Tigers have looked after their fans, maintaining 2010 pricing levels.
“There was an increase in the cost of delivering our membership packages, but the Club decided to absorb that price rise,” Richmond CEO Brendon Gale said.
“You can’t do that every season, but we want to do our best to support the fans that support us and make being a part of this Club as affordable as possible.”
Gale said a contributing factor for the price freeze was the relocation of two home games interstate in 2011.
“We committed through the process of relocating two of our home games interstate in 2011, that we would protect the rights of our members,” he said.
“We believe that by providing two replacement games, as well as fixing membership prices, we have well and truly delivered on this promise.”
Richmond has secured almost 23,500 members in its campaign so far, including more than 2800 new members through its ‘Operation 10,000’ digital referral campaign.
“Our fans have responded really positively to this season’s membership campaign - The Tiger is Stirring. Our current membership tally is a Club record this far out from the season,” Gale said.
“We are really keen to hit 46,000 members this year and we hope our approach to pricing will help us reach that target.”

3121 - Almost Sold Out
(http://membership.richmondfc.com.au/files/image/3121.png)
In 2011, the Club will launch a brand new coterie membership. 3121 – The Tiger Sanctum provides entry level coterie membership for Tigers supporters looking for a more comfortable match day experience that provides unprecedented access to Richmond Coaching staff and players.
Sales have already exceeded projections and it appears certain that the “Sold Out” sign will go up for this membership category early in 2011.
For more information on this brand new membership, click here (http://membership.richmondfc.com.au/tiger-sanctum.html) to purchase your 3121 membership, or call Daniel Giese on 9426 4420 if you have any further questions

Difficult but not impossible.
We say this every year a positive pre season mickey mouse cup run and based on the starts we have had in the last 5 years 4.5 games in the first four rounds including 0 in the last two years and you just never know.
A big win against the Cheats in Round 1 and heaping pressure on Rotten would push those figures along nicely.

It makes you wonder how clubs like Cronulla which only have 5000 members can survive long term as costs rise (eg: salary cap) in a increasingly competitive sports marketplace.

They have nowhere near the 'connected' supporter base that AFL clubs do. The NRL is a sport that is mostly followed from the sanctity of a lounge chair or pub bar. AFL clubs put a shedload more effort into connecting with their supporters.

Gee wis. Not having taken much of an interest in the NRL I don't really know what I expected, but I am shocked at the difference in membership numbers between the AFL and the NRL. :o
It makes you wonder how clubs like Cronulla which only have 5000 members can survive long term as costs rise (eg: salary cap) in a increasingly competitive sports marketplace.
It's called the Leagues CLub - most NRL clubs have very profitable leagues clubs that pour $$$ back into the NRL clubs
BTW those numbers are a lot higher than they've been in the past :thumbsup

Yep. The Leagues Club rules supreme. Only recently have we started seeing TVCs advertising NRL memberships, the numbers are slowly rising. Not that quick off the mark are the thicknecks.

I realise that WP ;) but I specifically mentioned Cronulla as their annual Leagues Club grant to the football club had been reduced from now on to just $250k by orders from the bank. The Leagues Club wrote off almost $4m to keep the football club afloat and although they are asset rich due to the property (stadium) they own their current liabilities out strip their current assets by $12m. The football club is bleeding money and they are hanging out for the new NRL tv rights to halt the bleeding. They are the North Melbourne of the NRL.

All this talk of money makes my head spin. :rollin Can't say I'm much of a finacial wiz.
"My cat's breath smells like cat food."
I like football though.
North Melbourne. LOL.

Fair call MT - I should have excluded Cronulla ;D Once they were a strong club on and off the field now they are hopeless on both.
I also know a number of NRL clubs have been trying to be run seperately to their leagues clubs to see how much financial bleeding there actually is - seriously I don't hink some of them know ;D. Parramatta Leagues pours in about $6-7mil a year into their NRL club to fund it but the leagues club has been hit hard by changes in State Govt taxes they have to pay (sounds a bit like down here :P)
But certainly the NRL clubs with storng Leagues clubs are the financially strongest NRL clubs

They seem to have a copletely different financial dependence than the AFL. It seems that without the injection of the lucritive pokies revenue they would fold on mass. It still seems that many Sydney based clubs are struggling to even pay their players the required minimum salary cap payments (let alone Administrators wages) which are anchoring the stronger teams down and allowing players to be stolen by richer codes such as our own.

Technically not which is why I put it in comma but Nick Politis runs the Roosters and bankrolls them. This is a chunk from the smh in august last year.
"Max Delmege has tipped about $15 million into his beloved Sea Eagles. Asked to estimate his investment over 3½ decades, Politis replied: ''Wouldn't have a clue. I don't want to add it up. Better not to know.''

seriously..How can the saints have more members than us???
Give it a few years and they'll be rattling tins and sacking coaches as they were in the glory days of the late 90's and early 2000's when Watson and Blight between them couldn't cobble up anything with a list that was worse than ours in 2003-04.
That's why clubs like Melbourne, St Kilda, Dogs, SH1tboners make me sick they have a few good years and the members inflate such is their success starvation yet us despite our humiliation and lack of success we had 40 K last year and this year will be close to 50K this year. WIth a bit of success the Benny Gale blueprint of 3-0-75 is not unrealistic knowing the support we have who will only jump on board when we start winning consistently.
I am sure we all remember the big crowds we played in front of in the 95-98 timeframe and that was only one finals app with the hope of more after 95. Imagine if we get it all right. :pray

I'd very much doubt it, there was a few hundred at training and didn't really look like a set up for membership drive.

Will be interesting to see how many memberships Essendon can sell given the reduced capacity of Etihad Stadium compared to the MCG

At where we are now I am confident we can get beyond 50K.
We still had alot of members sign up last year after the season started regardless of the "poor" start to the year.
If we have a 2-2 start well 55K may be an outside chance.
There's alot of positivity around the club on and off the ground and that is helping.

Have to say the target 10,000 new member campaign has been a resounding success IMHO. Even at the current level of around 6000 new members its been an outstanding success.

Getting more members than Essendon now. 2 weeks ago we were >7k behind them, now we are <6k - we've been catching up constantly for the past month.
We're now >5k behind them. A win in Round 1 would nearly see us pass them I reckon - even getting close would be a very good effort given how they have jumped up this year because of the 'H' factor.

I'm surprised after Friday night that all the Bomber fans wouldn't have jumped on the bandwagon the way bomberblitz was carrying on.
Anyway here's a comparison where all clubs were this time last year (Feb 19, 2010).
Coll'wood 44,649
Hawthorn 43,023
Essendon 32,351
St Kilda 29,384
Geelong 27,149
Richmond 26,808
Carlton 26,707
W.Bulldogs 23,901
Port Adel. 22,312
Melbourne 22,166
Brisbane 21,618
North 17,254
The Lions membership is down by 25%. Some would be GC defectors but Voss' disasterous recruiting record and them being spoon favourites would be the major cause.
As for us we're up by around 6000 on this time last year and about on par with the 2009 Cuz bandwagon figures.

I have never taken the hawks seriously especially in 1979 & 1980 when most members of there cheersquad were gaybirds.
But that said you must remember that Richmond won alot of support during late 60's and seventies cashing in on sustained success. Hawthorn has benefited also on the success of the 80's with a whole generation of young kids now in there 20's and early 30's.
It is a tribute to how loyal and patient Richmond supporters have been to have a whole generation of mediocrity and punishment but to have an average attendance which is well above Hawthorn in most home and away seasons during that time.

There was a gap from Feb 26 to March 9 that year in the RFC site updating the membership tally.
26/02/2009: 34,130
09/03/2009: 38,790
So the 02/03/2009 number would be ~36k.

It looks like we are growing at 250 per day. So with 20 days to go we should be around the 40-41k mark heading into round 1.
-
I actually thin 41k at the start of R1 would be really disappointing. Hopefully the numbers can increase and we can around the 45k by the time R1 comes around. That would give us a good chance at 50k by the end of the membership campaign. The number is disappointing because we've found 6000 new members so far, that means we have a very big number of members from last year who havent purchased memberships yet.

Sunday Herald Sun
March 06, 2011
AFL clubs have turned to the weird, wacky and wonderful in a bid to persuade football fans to become members.
Cocktail parties with coaches, barbecues with players and signed photos of club captains are being offered by Victorian and interstate clubs trying to bolster their membership ranks and revenue bases.
Richmond fans willing to part with $900 can get a private room and bar for two at a Tigers' match with a pre-game address by one of the assistant coaches.
Melbourne fans paying $835 for "Legends" membership get a pass to the Demons' change rooms for one game and a chance to meet players after every MCG match.
Brisbane coach Michael Voss will host a cocktail evening for the Lions' best paying members.
Port Adelaide fans get lunch with two Power players and an assistant coach for their $1800 premium membership.
And members of St Kilda's exclusive "300 club" membership can enjoy a pre-season barbecue and open training session and reserved car park.
As rival AFL clubs pull out all stops to get their hands on supporters' cash, Collingwood is clearly winning the war with their sights set on pushing through the 70,000-member mark for the first time.
The black-and-white army is set to break an AFL record for membership before the first bounce of the 2011 AFL season. With about a month before the season begins, the reigning premier already has a membership base of almost 54,000 - only 4000 shy of the record paying supporter base it set last year on the way to its drought-breaking Grand Final victory.
Such is Collingwood's dominance of the membership market, it has even sold out of premium "Legends" membership. At a cost of more than $800, it comes with guaranteed Grand Final tickets.
Standard club memberships start at $170 for an 11-match pass to home games.
Typically, a team cap or scarf, key ring, bumper sticker, fridge magnet and magazine are included.
A rich source of revenue for clubs, packages are sold for adults, families, children and even pets.

Yeah you get entry to all their NEAFL games this year and if you sign on to become a full member in 2012 you get the $50 taken off the price.

Thanks GG, that would help explain it then. Fair enough deal.

Yeah doesn't seem like a bad deal. 5500 of those members are from Canberra and I reckon the combined total would be over 10k by now. They're doin alright.

We must have 10,000 to 15,000 people who havent renewed yet. Operation 10k looks like a resounding success, but if we dont resign the old members from last year it wont make much difference.

We were 6,240 members behind the bombers bout a month ago now we're 4,344 thats 1,896 more members than them within 1 month, personally think come RD 1 and first few rounds we'll be right on their tail and meaning min under 1,000 behind them or even perhaps catch em :thumbsup

yes, Richmond supporters... and Fatprick Schmidt.

Just a hypothetical, say we were in the Bumbers position, Richo was back coaching the Tiges and we'd poached Mick Malthouse as his assistant. We're lining up in the NAB grand final this Friday.
What do you think our membership numbers would be? 50k already?

At least 5k more than it is now, probably closer to 10.

Really need to focus on the positives our kids are providing.
Work a bit more of this stuff into your 'The Tiger is Stirring' membership drive on the cusp of the season Tiger officials.

Even so a false dawn after all the hype to Ben's debut ensured we got not too many more jumping on after that.
There is more positivity to the rebuild and the club in the last two years since Dimma has taken over so the clubs membership stocks should still increase healthily till June 30.

Even so a false dawn after all the hype to Ben's debut ensured we got not too many more jumping on after that.
There is more positivity to the rebuild and the club in the last two years since Dimma has taken over so the clubs membership stocks should still increase healthily till June 30.
Don't forget the fundraiser dinner this thursday. We might sell a few hundred on that night alone
-
Don't forget the fund raising dinner this Thursday which should get us a few more members 8)
Seeing that most of the people invited are already members and will be handing over big $$$ I don't think the numbers are going to jump after Thursday night
-
Bombers had a family day today so their figures should increase significantly you would think.

Bloody hell,
if we can just be competitive on the field this club will be a powerhouse ! :banghead
Exactly. With Benny Gale's 3-0-75 plan the 75k members objective won't be difficult to achieve as outsiders would think if we can finally give our supporters something to cheer about on-field. We're going to reach nearly 50k this year despite most likely finishing bottom 4 again. Wait until the bandwagon effect of winning and finals kicks in as that bandwagon effect hasn't even started yet.
-
There is one problem with the 75k membership plan.
Where the stuff will everyone fit.
People will buy memberships and not fit in the ground. As membership numbers grow they will eventually need to be capped.
There is the afl members, the corporates, the MCC and then the need to fit in opposition supporters.

Also why Essendon make so much off their deal at Etihad stadium. The limited capacity means that many of their members get reserved seats every year.
If we can do that at the G then we'll be laughing

Are the membership numbers of the Eagles and Crows limited by the size of their grounds?
Yes I believe so...
The Eagles have a 8000 long waiting list apparently and word is Freo this year sold out and now will have a waiting list. That explains why the AFL is considering a 3rd team in Perth when there's almost 10,000 fans combined on waiting lists of the two existing clubs. Mind you if the WA Government got its act together and built a new stadium or redeveloped Subiaco into a larger stadium then these fans would be able to fit in.

Hopefully the 3rd qtr burst and the competitive showing on the scoreboard will keep the membership tally ticking over nicely.

Gee Ramps, have you looked at the membership ladder and taken into account the level of success we've had over the past 30 years. You're asking us to be second on the ladder just behind the scum. Still a little while to go before membership figures are counted too. 42,000 is not a bad effort so far and bodes well for when we finally get out poo together.

we should publicly come out and state we want to break the 50k barrier and simultaneously achieve the 10k new member goal. We've done really well to date - sometimes a simple public reminder can galvanise the supporters to help the club break some records. Still plenty who havent renewed lets get them on board!!
50k this season coupled with 7-9 wins and we'll go for 60k next season mark my words

Correct. We're only about 500 behind our 2009 figure and we got 47,000 that year with only 1 win by midseason. I reckon we can get at least 3 wins by then 8)

Blaisee when youve worked your behind of to get 8000 new members and your only at 42000 at the start of R1 then that is a disappointing result. There is no other way around it. If people who were members last years renewed then we would have passed that 50,000 target number now, but I fear that Operation 10k has acted as an excuse for the traditional bandwagon jumpers to jump off. Overall it seems (at the moment) that there will be NO NET POSITIVE GAIN. Of course these people may jump on this week and next but until that happens I still say its a disappointing number.

Flagman - we have one of the lowest "churn rates" in the comp. Our numbers I reckon reflect that
BTW for people that don't know "Churn rate" means people not renewing as members. The % throughout the comp is quite large and ours comapred to the average is quite low
I reckon 42K by round 1 is a bloody good effort all thing considered. We are ahead of last year and are traking for an overall record number - can't expect much more really

I took the "record number" from the Clubs 2009 annual report that lists the membership numbers from 2000 through to 2009
46041 is the highest on that list
-
I think the club should be looking at 50 as a minimum.
With all things considered we still have the best part of 10 weeks to get another 8000 members.
200 a from today to the end of May not taking into account any match day sales takes us to over 51000.
A few wins and some good displays and a sprinkling of blind faith will surely boost the Club's chances of
getting there.

Just looking at those figures WP, it would be safe to forecast around 47k as our 2011 total. In 2010 after Round 1 we signed a further 4,800 members, including a push for the 3 game membership late in the picture. Projected to this year with a similar push for the 3 gamer (can only assume they will try that again and if we can win a few during late April/May then it should be productive) that would take us to just on 47k. Setting a goal of 50k for the year and coming in at 47k (a record for the club) is a very good result because goals are just targets to aim for, not life and death outcome markers. And it's the same with 3-0-75 - if we end up with 2 years of finals appearances, $500k debt and 70,000 members by 2014 then the club will (and have every right to) be very pleased with that result.
Of course, it still won't satisfy some. :banghead

Yeah I understand that Mopsy (I thought it was called "Tiger Insider" but that doesn't matter anyway), my point was that if we do the same promotional push with it this year that we did last year (i.e. towards the end of the membership sales period) then we have every right to expect a similar outcome and thus achieve around the 47k mark, maybe even a few more if we can win a few games around that time, unlike last year when we were 0-9.

there should only be incentives for the kids because they love the stickers and caps and stuff. for the rest of us there should only be incentives for long term membership status. for example for 15 years of consecutive Richmond membership you can have the right to buy a richmond jumper signed by a player of your choice. At 25 years you get the signed Richmond jumper for free. Thats the type of incentive that would work.

dead right Ramps. I must have about 7 or 8 caps lying around and if i wear one, which is rear, its just the one.

Waste of money IMO

That's right boys I used to wear my 2004 cap till I lost it and since then I have been wearing my 2009 cap.
I have a whole heap of caps and even this years one that are piled up on each other in the wardrobe of the spare room at my house.
In a few years I am a 20 year member I would love to have as Flagman says a jumper signed by my favourite player or entry into the rooms before a game to hear a coaches address to the players before we play the Pies.
Something memorable that will stick with me forever and will be worthwhile as well as giving all the supporters an oppportunity to live this dream and have the club give something back individually to someone who has stayed loyal to the footy club for a generation.

So the caps are waste of money daniel but jumpers (which cost alot more) aren't ??? ::) ;D
I like the idea Flagman in principle though
But the highest churn rate isn't in the long term supporters it is the 2-3 year group so what incentive for them?
-
INCENTIVE is if you hang around long enough you end up with a nice piece of memorabilia that you will keep a lifetime and not just some cap that will get thrown out after a while.
-
Time to boost the sales again and the only way to do that is win this week 8)

I thought this year they gave everyone the choice on the 'reward' they got, if they wanted one? I know I opted for a $10 voucher to encourage me to spend more at the Tiger Den :thumbsup

Thanks correct and there was an option to just donate the money back to the club if you didn't want the reward.
By the way thanks WP for the membership record clarification :thumbsup

Not sure if the WC tally is correct one-eyed....think it includes waiting list members as indicated below...
From Bigfooty - http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=785003&page=53
From Bigfooty (Hawks fan) The Official AFL audit for season 2010 @ 30/6/10 showed that the West Coast Eagles total was at 44,160.
So there is no why in hell that your figure of 54,268 is correct and The _Wookie fell for it.
and the subsequent reply from an eagles fan...
That includes waiting list members I believe, essentially everyone willing to pay to be members of the club.
$60 a season IIRC, for up to four seats when they become available.. which is not any time soon.
-
The AFL "audits" are dodgy as well because you can have two memberships - one ticketed and one non-ticketed - that cost the same amount yet only the ticketed one will be counted in the audit. So while Richmond will say it had 42k members last year; the AFL will say we had just 36k. That's why we've made our old Tiger Insider package linked to game entry so it's counted. If we reach 50k members by the cut-off at the end of June (?), watch out for some lazy jpurno say our membership has jumped up by 14k.
-
We are only getting 100 a day now that the season is up and running. I am hoping a win against top 8 opposition over the next 3 weeks might boost those daily figures even higher to somewhere between 150 and 200.
-
The Record tonight said we have 8,306 new members. Hopefully after tonight we sign a few more before our first real home game next week.

No figure given Friday morning. Would say about 42,500. Would be nice to get to 44,000 by the start of our Round 3 game. A draw against St kilda will give our supporters hope and increase sales. With our first home game coming up for the season against Hawthorn and our good performances in the first 2 games I think we can hit 44,000 by Saturday night including pre game sales at the G before the clash. Look out if we win 8)

Only about 5-600 behind the 2009 figure. We should get 46,000 at the very least this year but we should expect to win a few more by midseason this time which will get us closer to 50,000. Expect a record membership this year
-
I reckon their were many old supporters who have jumped off for whatever reason wouldve jumped back on if we beat the Blues round 1. I know it's no excuse but I know of atleast 5 of those ex members.
That one win would of blown the memberships above 50K easy IMHO.

I still think a win this week against Hawthorn or at worst a really good showing and one next week against
the Pies and the fans will still have alot of cause for optimism. The draw for our first month has been horrendous.
-
Saturday night is our first official home game so hopefully we get a boost in numbers. In the past many Tiger supporters sign-up leading into or at our first home game.

Good 2 see us at 43K and new member numbers are very good also, continually ticking over, with our first home game this Sat nite think the numbers could spike up even more...

As at April 6
2009: 43,537
2010: 38,058
Based on those years we're probably heading for 47k by the cut-off date. Hopefully with a more competitive start to this year and with our first home game this weekend we can still push closer towards 50k.
-
At an avg of about 200 a day we should break our record of 46000 members certainly by the end of April. :thumbsup

I have inflated the total figure slightly Inf as we have two home games and I honestly think we can get good numbers signing up on both nights. Hence I still think we can get there based on our two home games to 46K by the end of the month. :thumbsup

The next two games are bloody tough. If you want to get those numbers up then competitive efforts at least are imperative.

We were over 7k behind them early in the year after their 'H' factor kicked in and have consistently got closer (halved the difference) since then.
We have more members than most other Vic-based clubs despite being far and away the least successful over the past 30 years.

You are contradicting your own point. You say that a good start in the NAB Cup and early games translates to more membership sales yet use Essendon as an example whose membership has dropped compared to us since (and despite) their good start. It doesn't make sense.

We havent caught the bombers in a month. I'm talking our sales, not theirs. We always catch them as the season goes on, but if we had a strong nab and a start to the season like theirs, we'd be another 3k more than we are now. How could more wins possibly not mean more sales? If they lost 3 nab games and only had 1 draw and no wins, they'd be on 45k;)
-
Of more concern is that the club is budgeting 46000 members from what I believe so that means we are under budget in terms of membership revenues at the moment. Lets hope we can hit 46000 over the next few weeks so the financials arent impacted.
-
It has been shown before in the years where we haven't had good starts that membership hasn't increase significantly, so to suggest otherwise is based on nothing more than guesswork. It takes constant improvement and signs of regular finals to build the membership base sigificantly. People know we are still in for a lean year, a couple of early wins is hardly going to make them come out of the woodwork.
That being said, we'll get over 46,000 easily
-

Nor have we dropped further behind so the only conclusion you can possibly draw from that is that winning or losing a few early games makes bugger all difference to membership levels. The very large majority of every club's memberships are sold before Round 1 and they are sold on 'value', value being cost, past performance, promise and potential. We start performing and showing promising levels of potential and the numbers will come, and they will come before we play our first game.

u cant count the dawks because of their bs tassie memberships, they are really a hybrid vic/interstate team

We won't this year with the messiah mentality in full swing at Windy Hill but in 2-3 years with winning form and our own bandwagon kicking in we have the potential growth to go right past Essendon and Hawthorn and yep easily be the second strongest Victorian club. The 70k members Benny is aiming at was never a too far-fetched plan provided there's onfield success to push us up to that Collingwood stratosphere. Opposition fans especially those under 30 will be quite shocked at the size and support we are capable of if and once we return to being the big successful Club we aiming to be again. It'll be their worst nigthmare! lol. It's up to us to now continue do things right both on and off-field that will get us there. No more stuff-ups and no more so-called quick fixes.

Can someone please explan to me why we aren't allowed to cash in on playing games in Hobart. It was a great idea when Benny mentioned it and I don't know why we don't just go there and play a couple of games there every year. I reckon play GC & GWS and we still have just as many home games as we do now.
If we pursue this I predict we overtake hawthorn tassie membership in 5 years.

Just talked my little brother into becoming a member. The kid lives week to week but wants to be a part of it. God help us when we start winning more than we loose. :gotigers

Andy D stepped in and gave the deal to North because the nomads "needed" the deal more than we did. Actually the AFL wanted North to play 7 games down there but from memory the Tassie Government (under a bit of pressure from Hawthorn who wanted their cash for playing in Launceston as well) would only fund 2 games which was the original deal we wanted in the first place. Oh well it may turn into a blessing in the long run. We work now to become a strong club both on and off-field and remain a 100% Melbourne-based club which is what we would want. If Gary March keeps his word we'll be dumping the interstate home games as soon as we raise the $6 million or thereabouts and clear all our debts and fund our footy dept. properly.

We're only 275 off the 10,000 new members target. The Club should put the tally on hold for now and put up some prize for the person who ends up the 10,000th new member to attract more supporters to sign up. The prize can be say being in the rooms before and/or after a home game in the second half of the season.

A few people got excited about 50K members early on so now it's become the only acceptable target.

As it should be! Nothing wrong with reaching for 50K being in the position we are now in. If we had of lost to North and Bris then no-one would expect us to make 50k but a couple of wins and encouraging signs should make it a very achievable goal!
Stkilda are reaching for 45k and are on 38.5k

what has itgot to do with Andrew D??? Is it because he has an afiliation with north??? I don't think the afl should be able to stop a team playing in Hobart if all are in agreement. I don't see the problem with playing the 2 new teams down at Hobart. The club can do some serious promotion there and steal potential members from the dawks.
I predict we will overtake their tassie membership in 5 years.
If the afl can stop us from tassie because we are a so called strong club why then haven't they stepped in and stopped hawthorn from renewing their deal?
It doesn't make any sense to me.

Not sure if that is really the case to be honest, certainly no evidence I've seen other than blind faith
Our memberships hardly rocketed up to massive levels in 2001 when we were playing so well
Essendon's memberships were going strong when they were going well in the NAB Cup but they haven't pulled ahead of us even with their great start to the season.

Yep, they are the total figures, last year our target was 42,000 members of which
total of 42,007 members - 35,960 match day members and 6,047 non match day members
http://www.richmondfc.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/6301/newsid/97327/default.aspx (http://www.richmondfc.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/6301/newsid/97327/default.aspx)

Apparently 6,000 of our total is non ticketed. I thought we were adding 3 games to all non ticketed memberships this year which are counted in our total figure on the official website. In other words I thought all 45,400 members in our current total figure were all ticketed members. I know we don't count pet memberships in the total. Why wouldn't all country and interstate memberships counted as ticketed allow 3 games and become ticketed instead? Obviously there's a chance these people may get to 1, 2 or 3 games. I bet you Collingwood, Hawthorn and Essendon do this 8)
-
All memberships are ticketed this year as far as I know
-
All memberships are ticketed this year.
Not according to the membership chat at the offical site. I asked if any of the total figure were non ticketed and if so how many and he said 6,000. But I bet you my life the Pies, Hawks and Bombers add 3 games to all these memberships and count them as ticketed. It seems stupid not to do this really

The AFL set the rules as to what classifies as "ticketed" & "non-ticketed" - they have for a number of years now after the Dawks included Pet memberships in their total number

Comment From Membership MonsterMembership Monster: ]
If we can win 4 games by midseason, I'd say 50,000 is a chance with 3 game memberships selling well. Of the current 43,500 members we have, how many you think are ticketed?
Cain Liddle: Around 37,000 are ticketed members and rest assured irrespective of how many games we have won or lost the membership department will leave no stone unturned when it comes to signing as many members as possible.

400 more members than before the last game is good. Even if we could attract supporters to purchase a 3 game for $80 it would give em a taste of how the boys have been playing, and most importantly fill more seats for the yellow and black. ;)

We only won 1 game from the first 11 games. Sales will be alot better this year during the first half of the season

you'll notice we usually catch the bombers after xmas. This year we haven't because they have done well since the start of nab. How can you possibly not think winning half a dozen games by midseason won't get more members that winning just 1 game by midseason? It's common sense ;)

Problem is if we don't win half a dozen games by midseason you will still believe this is the case.
There are not thousands of members sitting on the sidelines just waiting for us to get to 5-6 wins before they get a membership, they will only come out of the woodwork in their masses when we are showing signs of either repeat finals series or pushing for the Top 4.
You have absolutely no evidence to support your theory other than you just believe it, it's not common sense because it just doesn't happen like that

Tiger membership record under siege
richmondfc.com.au
5:53 PM Wed 04 May, 2011
Richmond is on the verge of breaking its all-time membership record.
As of close of business yesterday (Tuesday, May 3), the Tigers had 45,530 members, and were closing in fast on their record total of 46,202, which was set in 2009.
This is a significant achievement by the Club on the path to its long-term membership target of 75,000 by 2014.
The Tigers’ bold “Operation 10,000” campaign has played a significant role in the record membership numbers. Operation 10,000’s ambitious goal was to sign 10,000 new Tiger members in 2011. To put that in perspective, 10,000 new members represented a staggering 250% growth in new members from 2010 to 2011.
“We realised that to achieve our goal of 46,202 members in 2011, we had to aggressively market to supporters of the Club, who were not members in 2010,” said Richmond’s General Manager of Membership & Consumer Strategy, Cain Liddle.

In the long run yes, but unless we're beating Top 8 sides and showing that we are finals bound in successive years then it's not going to make a massive difference. If we make the 8 and then start the season undefeated or 5-1 then I'm sure the phones will be ringing off the hook.
-

geelong don't have the same support as we do. If geelong won 0 games they would have less members. If you don't agree you have major problems 8)

oh, ive got major problems, dont worry about that.
if your theory was correct, then the last 30 years of shietness would have seen our supporter base drop right off.

In all honesty Im with the mad one on this - The fact we still have so many members more than most clubs after 30 years of rubbish is testament to how many more supporters we have out there compared to most sides. A few more wins to get the juices flowing and I have no doubt we will see a slightly upward curve in memberships in the next several weeks - but the real spike will come next year :)

OK, by June 30. We will compare sales from Round 1 until the end of June for 2009, 2010 and 2011. Even if we didn't win another game we'll still have more sales this year. This is an absolute certainty, so you're argueing for the sake of it. I hope we beat freo and win even more games by midseason to prove how much wins contribute to membership 8)

show me a trend of association over five years or so between games won early in the season and percentage increase in membership sales and i will concede you are correct, Mad One.

Caro mentioned also we will start heavily pushing the 3 game memberships this week which we haven't done before.
-
According to Greg Denham in today's Australian:
While Richmond is on a roll on field, it is also flying off the field with a record membership in sight. The Tigers are poised to smash their previous record of 39,000, set in 2009 on the back of the recruitment of West Coast premiership player and Brownlow medallist Ben Cousins.

We need to quickly promote a Dreamtime 3 game membership.

Looks like the new member numbers have slowed, but there are still 6000 members who haven't renewed so I imagine most of them now are from this group
-
6000 members from 2010 that haven't re-signed for 2011 .... is it worth speculating why?
- It's not as if we were promised anything other than pain in 2010.
- It's not as if the club didn't deliver on the things it said it would do.
- Maybe the economy has gotten a lot worse and people can't afford memberships?
- Maybe a lot of people have changed allegiance?
- Were those 6000 all 3 game membership holders who have been holding out for the 3 gamers to be offered this year?
What are the speculations out there?
-
Isnt there an annual churn rate of 10 to 20 percent. That would account for the high number. Have to admit its disappointing. Hopefully 3000-4000 of those reconsider and we can get to 50,000 members this year.

All jokes aside I have that very fear. I don't want to die before I see Richmond win a flag. The way they have gone over the past 30 years made this a viable worry...and I'm still in my 30's :o ;)
Exciting to think we have such excellent numbers already even before we push for the finals this year :whistle
-
with 18 sides in the comp in the immediate future, if the world worked fair and sqaure that would mean each club wins the flag every 18 years. Of course it doesnt work like that and there will be supporters who never get to see their team win a premiership in their life.
stuff i hope it's not richmond supporters that suffer that fate.

1 flag is all i want before i die.
But after 1 I'd probably get flag greedy and want more.
Still how long we all live will determine how many flags we see, yet the two are totally independent. Such is the mystery of life.

I'm not greedy, I just want a threepeat :D

Dear Member,
It gives me great pleasure to announce that early this morning, the Club surpassed its all-time membership record of 46,202, which was set in 2009.
It gives me equally as much pleasure to confirm that our bold target of 10,000 new members for 2011 ("Operation 10,000") has also now been reached.
These are significant achievements and, on behalf of the Club, I would like to express my sincerest thanks to you for helping us achieve these goals.
I can't help but be humbled by the amazing support for our Club. In 2010, we made a collective promise that we would take no short cuts, on or off the field. Achievement of our ambitious membership goals in 2011 ensures that our members have yet again upheld their end of the bargain.
Tomorrow, we will make a public announcement in the 'Herald-Sun', relating to our achievement. I hope when you read the announcement, you feel the same pride in the Club that I feel writing this email to you.
While our membership goals have already been met for this season, we clearly recognise a rare window of opportunity now exists to make significant inroads into our next membership landmark of 50,000 members.
Once more, please accept my personal thanks for your wonderful commitment to the Yellow and Black cause in 2011.
I look forward to continuing our exciting journey with you throughout the rest of this season and beyond.
Kind regards,
Brendon Gale
Chief Executive Officer

Tigers break membership record
richmondfc.com.au
Wed 11 May, 2011
Richmond has recorded its all-time highest membership total.
This morning, the Club eclipsed the record of 46,202 members, which was set in 2009.
The Tigers have also reached their target in the “Operation 10,000” campaign of 10,000 new members in 2011.
“These are significant achievements and, on behalf of the Club, I would like to express my sincerest thanks to our loyal fans for helping us achieve these goals,” said Richmond’s CEO Brendon Gale.
“I can't help but be humbled by the amazing support for our Club. In 2010, we made a collective promise that we would take no short cuts, on or off the field.
“Achievement of our ambitious membership goals in 2011 ensures that our members have yet again upheld their end of the bargain.”
Richmond launched its three-game membership last week, which gives fans the opportunity to attend three home games of their choice, out of the six remaining in the 2011 season.

Club should spend some of it's afl tv money aggressively promoting the 3 game memberships. With any luck we are 22 points and in the 8. Make the Game vs Carlton a feature in the membership - it's round 15.

This time last year (27/05/2010) we had 41,395 and finished with 42,007 by the July 1 cutoff.
The year before (a week earlier at 18/05/2009) we had 45,580 (36,589 matchday) and finished with 46,202 (36,981 matchday).
So with a few more wins we may push up towards 48k this year by the cutoff date.

Kangaroos are a joke. Bulldogs not much better.
Hand to Demons, they were way down a couple of years ago.
They seem to have a clue.
-
The MCC is inflating the Melbourne membership just as Port's membership has risen thanks to the Power and Magpies becoming one club.
Essendon's membership has stalled over the past week or so. We'll probably end up about 2000 behind them by the cutoff which is a pretty good effort given the Hird the messiah bandwagon and the Herald-Sun giving them non-stop publicity.
Carlton's membership is below par for a big club that has played finals the past two years and is heading for a top 4 spot this year. It appears Blues supporter aren't fans of Ratten as coach or they know they are one Judd injury away from it all going to pieces.
Brisbane has leaked about 5000 members to the Suns so interesting to see next year if the Swans cop a similar whack. The AFL won't care as total memberships in Queensland have gone from 29k up to over 35k.

How many fans do you think the Tigers would have got at the 'G if we were in the Pies form, playing against the Eagles.
The Pies got 52,000.
I honestly think we could easily beat that if we were 2nd on the ladder (after years of playing finals) playing an up and coming challenger.

Wayne coming off our win against the bombers so on current improving form not on premiership defence form I have no doubt we wouldve got 40-45k on saturday if we were playing the eagles. Add genuine premiership form to that and who knows?

Agree TM. We get about 30k on average as a bottom 8 side against the Eagles at the 'G. Easily add 10-15k if we were reigning premiers and flying like the Pies with the bandwagon full loaded.

50,000 the new par according to the Bombers CEO and now they want to play more games at the 'G.
''I think there will be four clubs that are through 50,000 this year - ourselves, West Coast, Collingwood and Hawthorn - and it used to be Adelaide earned the plaudits for being the first club to get there,'' he said. ''If I can use a mountaineering expression, it used to be seen that 50,000 was the Mount Everest. In real terms today, it's the base camp, it's from where now we launch our assault at going to 60,000 and beyond.

No update on the RFC webiste since the last one a few days ago and it's now past the cutoff date. So it appears we'll end up with just over 47,500 members with almost 11k of them new for 2010. Not a bad effort considering we are still a bottom 6 side. The bandwagon hopefully is building.

I believe so (at least the 3-game membership) although they won't count towards the official AFL figures. Good luck to the Club selling anymore by the way now given the past month on-field :P.

Here's the AFL's final membership figures. We cracked the 40k "ticketed" or "access" members mark.
Eight clubs - Adelaide, Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon, Fremantle, Hawthorn, Richmond and West Coast - now boast membership bases of over 40,000.

Yes
but what about the other ones Flags, the AFL wouldn't include those - eg the Non match day cubs, the MCG tiger etc
Bombers appear to be in the same boat as us - 7k differential

THIS is our membership number. The club looks stupid when it claims 47,000 members and we come out with 40,000 official members. And this was on top of the supposed extraordinary success of the membership campaign. The club needs a reality check IMHO. If it wants to do membership numbers it should do it properly, not leave it till late July for the AFL to make us look stupid. Members are members and contributors are contributors and the club needs to make this distinction or better still just have the officially recognised memberships thats all and dont include other numbers.

I actually don't believe anything the members tally suggests.
Don't believe for a 2nd we have 500k more members than St.Kilda and Hawthorns 56k (including Tassie members) is legit. Where are their 3 day memberships and pets memberships? Hawks fans couldn't fill a cookie jar let alone half the MCG.

Sorry Flagman but I will back the Club on this.
I don't give a rats what the AFL deems as a member.
Bottom line IMHO is the Club is right to declare every person no matter what type of membership (only pet m'ships should be excluded) they have purchased a 2011 MEMBER OF THE RFC.
I'll ask you this: I purchase Cub memberships for my nephew and niece every year, I don't bother with match day m'ships for them because they live in QLD. Their m'ships would not be included in the "official AFL" member numbers but they are still counted as RFC members by the RFC. I woulkd think they should be - dont' you agree?
I have no doubt you would find that all the MCC Tiger memberships sold would not be included inthe AFL tally but would be included in the Clubs as they should be
I am not disputing the difference seems extreme but as I said I see Essendon are in the same boat as us discrepency wise but it appears all club numbers don't match the AFL's list - would love to know why? Maybe as the AFL change the rules again
Maybe we need Mr RFC_O to get on here and explain

Huge spike in new members
By Tony Greenberg
richmondfc.com.au
Thu 04 Aug, 2011
In 2011, Richmond launched “Operation 10,000”, a bold plan to sign 10,000 new members. This represented a staggering 220% growth from new members signed the previous year.
Well, the Club is delighted to announce that it signed just over 11,000 new members for the 2011 season, and that played a significant part in an all-time record membership year at Tigerland.
The Club sends sincere thanks to all those who got right behind Operation 10,000 and, especially, the 11,000 new members in 2011.

LMFAO at the girl who called me today from the club asking me to donate $200.
Poor girl she rang the wrong guy. Im done putting money in this club.
Membership is the only thing they will get off me until they start coming to the party

Look i can see the enthusiasm the people at richmond have to try to drag this club out of the mire, but surely they themselves must see that the average punter is really quite disillusioned at this stage of 2011,and getting any extra money out of us will be extremely hard...and rightly so
Unless of course the boys win the last 4 games of the season and then i might dig in myself and chip in a few extra notes..lol

It's probably been there for a while but checking the membership page on the RFC I notice it says the 2011 total is now 47,902. It means we'll only need just over a 2000 increase next year to break the 50k barrier.

Looking forward to next year and upgrading my membership. This is the bit where I take cover and say I've only ever had a 3 game membership. But I only moved back to Melbourne (originally from country Vic) from Brisbane after 20 years just 3 years ago and I never had anyone to go with. Only had a brother down here but as far as he is concerned there is only one team in the comp which is Collingwood and my mates only want to go to the footy if their teams are playing. So basically I only found myself going to our away matches or games we don't even play. But now my old man moved back down (he used to help run the Tigers supporters group in Brisbane) and my missus wants to start going to the footy with me despite being a bluebagger. So next year that will be one upgraded 16 gamer, a new membership and a new membership :cheers
