Title: Changes for the Suns game?
Post by: one-eyed on August 04, 2018, 12:02:12 AM
If I heard right, our doc told BT we got through unscathed.

We should get a couple back next week. Possibly Houli, Prestia and/or Broad?

Fire away with your changes?

Surely Prestia has another week out and doesn’t fly which wouldn’t be great for the rib

Nani needs a week off, bring in Soldo

Lloyd ok without staring, even Mendaue ok with run off half back. Made a couple of errors but did ok

Depending on who is ready maybe Broad and Houli and Soldo

Out Nank, Menadue or McIntosh

Does Baker stay in?

Didn’t Dimma say Graham will be back next week too? Got a few lining up to come back. I’m in the camp that you don’t flirt with form so no resting players unless they actually need it and Nank couldn’t hurt to have a week off. The rest will get a week off in a month.

No rest for finals-bound Tigers

Nine Wide World of Sports
By AAP

Richmond's players might have lacked some trademark intensity in their three-point win over Geelong, but Damien Hardwick will not rest key players ahead of the AFL finals series.

The reigning premiers sit comfortably atop the AFL ladder with three rounds to go until finals, but Hardwick doesn't want to flirt with their form.

"Players go up and down at various stages and we probably had a lot of guys who were a little bit jaded," Hardwick said after the thriller.

"(But) we play our best side every week ... if those guys are available to play, they play.

"If there's (a doubt) like Nathan Broad for example he won't play, but we don't play games, we call it as we see it.

"Dion (Prestia) is the same - if he's got an injury that a week off helps us then we'll take that week, but we won't be resting players."

That’s the correct attitude to have imo. If there is any risk, rest them but don’t rest them for the sake of resting - there is no need to do that now with 2 byes during the season

3 byes....as we will have a rest after the qualifying final as well..... :cheers

Out Menadue, Baker
In Prestia, Broad
Houli needs one more, play Graham through the 2s.
No resting.  Rest coming in 3 weeks.

Tigers could recall four flag stars for Suns

DAMIEN Hardwick could be thrown the best kind of selection dilemma this week with up to four premiership Tigers a chance to be available for their Saturday clash with Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium.

Nathan Broad, Dion Prestia, Jack Graham and Bachar Houli could all come into the frame this week after overcoming a variety of injuries.

Dan Butler and Reece Conca are also expected to put their hands up over the coming weeks, with the latter a chance to resume in the VFL this weekend after dislocating his ankle in round 15.

With no obvious omissions given the evenness of their performances over the last fortnight, whoever comes out of this week's team as the Tigers look for their first interstate win for 2018 can be deemed unlucky.

Complicating the situation further is the team's clean bill of health from Friday night's win over Geelong, plus the fact they're not preparing to rest players in the lead up to finals.

"We're not resters, we're players," Richmond football manager Neil Balme told AFL.com.au on Monday.

"I don't think we've ever thought that much about resting blokes, we'd much rather play them than rest them.

"I think players would rather play than not."

Toby Nankervis is the one that springs to mind when thinking about which players – if any – the Tigers should manage over the next three weeks, given he's the team's sole specialist ruckman.

But Balme declared Nankervis was expected to see out the remaining three home-and-away rounds ahead of the bye before the start of finals.

"I don't think he'd be happy if we left him out," he said.

Broad missed Friday night's win with calf soreness and "disruption" he picked up against Collingwood, which flared during the captain's run on Thursday, while Prestia missed with the rib he fractured in a collision with Magpie Travis Varcoe.

Both will be considered if they train strongly this week.

Graham and Houli will also need to prove their fitness after rehabbing slightly more complicated complaints.

Graham hasn't played since dislocating his shoulder in round 16 against Adelaide but remains in good shape given the nature of his injury and could come straight back into the AFL side.

"He's certainly done a lot of work, a lot of running, so he just hasn't had the contact stuff," Balme said.

"As long as he trains throughout the week, he should be available to play as well and selection will decide where he'll play."

Graham has been declared fit to play again this year but will undergo surgery at the end of the season to tighten his shoulder.

Houli had 15 possessions in a half of the VFL team's loss to Geelong on Saturday after last playing in round 17.

"He played what we expected him to play so he'll be available for this weekend and it's a matter of making the decision on whether we do or don't play him," Balme said.

"He played pretty well for the half a game he was prescribed, so if he can get the work done this week, we'd be pretty confident he could play.

"It's only that he's missed a reasonable amount of footy, whether we play him at VFL or AFL, selection will decide that."

Houli has played just one AFL game since round 10 because of a lingering groin complaint.

Butler won't play at any level this week but is back running after his round 16 ankle injury.

Complicating his return is the fact the VFL team has a bye the following week, coinciding with round 22 of the AFL.

Balme said they would "play it by ear" with how they manage the premiership forward's return.

Conca needs to get through training this week to line up in Saturday's clash with Williamstown in what will be a remarkable comeback after the graphic ankle injury he suffered just 39 days ago.

In the Mix: Round 21

Jennifer Phelan
afl.com.au
7 Aug 2018

Get them in: Nathan Broad, Dion Prestia, Jack Graham and Bachar Houli are all chances to be available this week, causing a logjam at selection.

Under the pump: They've been a pretty even unit over the past few weeks but the quality of players who are a chance to be available mean someone's got to be unlucky. Sam Lloyd and Connor Menadue have been the ones to make way before, while youngster Liam Baker hasn't done much wrong but remains inexperienced and Jack Higgins was scrappy at times with his disposal on Friday night.

Medical room: Broad (calf), Prestia (rib), Graham (shoulder) and Houli (groin) need to get through training this week, while Dan Butler (ankle) will miss at least one more and Reece Conca (ankle) is a chance to play VFL. There were no fresh injuries from round 20 at either level.

Verdict: Broad and Prestia to return, Graham and Houli 50-50 to stay home and line up in the VFL for match minutes. Lloyd and Menadue to be the unlucky duo.

Richmond Could Regain Three Stars

Lambert tells The Rush Hour

MMM
8 Aug 2018

Richmond could welcome back as many as three key players for their match against Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium on Saturday.

Premiership hero Kane Lambert told Triple M’s Rush Hour on Wednesday that the Tigers could regain Dion Prestia, Bachar Houli and Reece Conca for the clash.

“Conca’s getting close,” Lambert said.

“Obviously his horrific injury, he’s done real well to get back. I think it’s been about six weeks so he’s a chance to play this week.

“Bachar had a great game on the weekend in the VFL, played a half and racked them up.

“Prestia was pretty filthy he didn’t play last week to be honest but I think he’ll be back this week.”

Dan Butler (ankle) is still “a little bit away” after resuming running

If they are the only ins then you'd assume Menadue and Lloyd (unlucky as he was decent against Geelong) will make way to maintain the same team structure.

I would leave LLoyd in and give Baker a spell.  Lloyd then makes way for Graham or Conca when they return.
