What sort of player are you?
I'm an inside midfielder. I like to dish it out to a few people and get on the end of a ball every now and then and kick a goal.

Strengths?
I like to pride myself in being hard at the footy.

Weaknesses?
Probably my work off the ball – shepherds and tackles. It's something I'd like to work on. My set-shot goal work is also pretty ordinary. I'll line one up and kick one through, hopefully, one day.

Which AFL team do you support?
Essendon. I'm originally from Victoria, so I'm a Bombers man.

Which AFL player do you feel you most resemble?
I like to base my game on Simon Black. I love watching him play footy. He's great with his hands and hard at the footy. He's just got good skills. I watch how he plays, and that's how I try to play. I've had a chat to him at a private function, but nothing personal.

By Chelsea Roffey
Fri 31 October, 2008

DOB: 1/8/90
Height: 189cm
Weight: 81kg
Club: Woodville West Torrens/Henley

A hard-running defender who can also play run-with roles, Broadbent is courageous and has clean hands. His long kicking was a feature for South Australia at the NAB AFL under-18 championships this year. From Henley FC.

Strengths?
My main strengths are probably my decision-making and clean hands.

Weaknesses?
My skills were not up to scratch early in the [under-18] carnival. And my work rate, too.

Which AFL team do you support?
Port. I’m a Port man.

Which AFL players do you try to model yourself on?
I watch (West Coast’s) Andrew Embley for his run, and (Port Adelaide’s) Travis Boak has come through this only a few years ago so I look up to him a bit. He’s stepped up to the pace of AFL pretty well. Brett Kirk, I love how he gets his head over the ball and takes whatever’s coming.

Draft countdown: Paul Cahill
By Chelsea Roffey
Sat 01 November, 2008

DOB: 19/8/90
Height: 192cm
Weight: 80kg
Club: Sturt/Mitcham Hawks

An athletic tall forward who impressed with his quick leads and clean hands for South Australia the under-18 team this year, Cahill has good goal sense. From Mitcham Hawks FC.

Pic - http://mm.afl.com.au/Portals/0/images/AFL/AFL%20A-E/Cahill246x316a.jpg (http://mm.afl.com.au/Portals/0/images/AFL/AFL%20A-E/Cahill246x316a.jpg)
Watch highlights of Paul Cahill in action - http://bigpondvideo.com/AFLTV/64060

Strengths?
I’ve been fairly consistent. [I’ve shown] the ability to kick a few goals, pushing up the ground, quick leads.

Weaknesses?
Defensive pressure. That’s what I’ll be working on back at home – physical presence when tackling, just getting my attitude right as well, not dropping my head when things don’t go my way.

Which AFL team do you support?
No-one. I used to be a (Adelaide) Crows fan but I don’t like the style of footy they play anymore, so I just watch the good players that I aspire to be like. I just watch them and the games they play in.

Which AFL players do you try to model yourself on?
Buddy Franklin – he is the one for me. I love him stacks. I just love the way he plays. I model myself on him. He’s just electrifying. You can tell half the crowd’s there to watch him and the way he performs under pressure. He’s so young and he deals with all the pressure and media and all that off the ground and still performs. And he kicks a few great goals as well.

Nick Riewoldt is a bit of a softy but deals with all the hard nuts that are put on him. He doesn’t brawl. He also shows maturity, having taken on captaincy at a really young age.

Title: Draft countdown: Aaron Cornelius (afl)

Draft countdown: Aaron Cornelius
By Chelsea Roffey
Sun 02 November, 2008

DOB: 29/5/90
Height: 192cm
Weight: 84kg
Club: Tassie Mariners, TAS

A tall marking forward who is strong on the lead and has very clean hands. Cornelius reads the play well and has experienced senior VFL action with the Tassie Devils. He won All-Australian under-18 honours in 2007. An AIS/AFL Academy graduate. From Glenorchy FC.

Pic - http://mm.afl.com.au/Portals/0/images/AFL/AFL%20A-E/Cornelius246xWIM.jpg (http://mm.afl.com.au/Portals/0/images/AFL/AFL%20A-E/Cornelius246xWIM.jpg)

Watch highlights of Aaron Cornelius in action - http://bigpondvideo.com/AFLTV/64057

What are your biggest strengths as a player?
I think my ability to read the play and take a strong mark. I’m also pretty sneaky around the goals.

What are your weaknesses?
My deficiencies are probably the defensive side of my game and my endurance, so I need to work on that. The defensive side is so big in the AFL now – you can kick goals from those kind of efforts as well as from taking marks.

What type of player are you?
Maybe a third tall, not so much a key position, but someone who can take a mark and rove at the same time.

Which AFL club do you support?
I go for St Kilda. I actually trained with St Kilda through the AIS-AFL program during the pre-season. You see guys like Robert Harvey on the telly and the next thing you’re meeting them. You receive the ball off Harvs and then you’re kicking it to Fraser Gehrig, so it was a bit of a dream come true.

Which AFL player do you most resemble?
One of the recruiters said I reminded him of Ryan O’Keefe from the Swans, so that was a compliment.

Title: Draft countdown: Matthew DeBoer (afl)

Draft countdown: Matthew DeBoer
By Ben Broad
Mon 03 November, 2008

DOB: 10/3/90
Height: 187cm
Weight: 85kg
Club: Claremont/Swanbourne JFC

A medium midfielder who is strong overhead and a prolific ball-winner, DeBoer runs hard for his team and is courageous in his attack on the ball. A WA under-18 representative in 2008, winning All-Australian honours. From Swanbourne JFC.

Pic - http://mm.afl.com.au/Portals/0/images/AFL/AFL%20A-E/DeBoer246xWIM.jpg (http://mm.afl.com.au/Portals/0/images/AFL/AFL%20A-E/DeBoer246xWIM.jpg)

Watch highlights of Matthew DeBoer in action - http://bigpondvideo.com/AFLTV/63082 (http://bigpondvideo.com/AFLTV/63082)

What sort of player are you?
I play a lot on the wing, both in the [NAB AFL under-18] championships and for my club side, Claremont. I pride myself on being really competitive.

Strengths?
I’m pretty competitive. I hate losing, so I try doing anything to prevent that.

Weaknesses?
Probably my consistency through a whole game, and also my kicking – more distance and penetration.

Which AFL team do you support?
The Eagles.

Which AFL player do you feel you most resemble?
I used to crave being like James Hird, just because he could turn a game, but I don’t think I play like him or anything. I guess if I had to choose someone I’d probably say Daniel Cross or someone like that.

Title: Draft countdown: Christopher Hall (afl)

Draft countdown: Christopher Hall
By Chelsea Roffey
Tue 04 November, 2008

DOB: 25/6/90
Height: 175cm
Weight: 70kg
Club: Woodville West Torrens/Flinders Park

A courageous small midfielder with clean hands, who is very creative. Hall has good awareness and also seems to have time and space. South Australian under-18 representative in 2008. From Flinders Park FC.

pic - http://mm.afl.com.au/Portals/0/images/AFL/AFL%20F-J/Hall246xWIM2.jpg (http://mm.afl.com.au/Portals/0/images/AFL/AFL%20F-J/Hall246xWIM2.jpg)

What sort of player is he?
A brave small onballer with good awareness, Hall was pleased with his consistency throughout the national under-18s carnival.

Strengths
Setting up the play, quick hands, getting the runners involved. I can get around players easily. My evasive skills are a bit better than some of the bigger guys.

Weaknesses?
I probably need to work on my size a little bit, need to get a bit stronger. And my chase-downs as well; keeping the ball inside the forward 50.

Which AFL team do you support?
I’m a Crows fan.

Which AFL players do you try to model yourself on?
Dale Thomas, Andrew McLeod and Brett Burton. I like McLeod because he’s just so clean with his hands, such a silky smooth sort of player. And Dale and Brett Burton are playmakers of the team, sort of the X-factors. When they fire it’s really good to watch that sort of thing.

Title: Draft countdown: Hamish Hartlett (afl)

Draft countdown: Hamish Hartlett

Wed 05 November, 2008

DOB: 14/8/90
Height: 182cm
Weight: 74kg
Club: Port Magpies/Pooraka

A medium midfielder who reads the game exceptionally well, has clean hands, vision and kicks the ball superbly. Hartlett won All-Australian under-18 selection after his performances for South Australia in the NAB AFL under-18 championships. From Edwardstown FC.

pic - http://mm.afl.com.au/Portals/0/images/AFL/AFL%20F-J/Hartlett246x316a.jpg (http://mm.afl.com.au/Portals/0/images/AFL/AFL%20F-J/Hartlett246x316a.jpg)

Watch highlights of Hamish Hartlett in action - http://bigpondvideo.com/AFLTV/63067 (http://bigpondvideo.com/AFLTV/63067)

Strengths?
I think my work rate has always been a big strength.

Weaknesses?
I think my skills let me down. Usually I like to think they’re one of my strengths, my skills, but they were pretty average today and throughout the [under-18] carnival. There is a bit of nervousness, bit of anxiety, extra pressure and that sort of thing playing at the highest level, I suppose. There’s a bit of extra pressure there, but you’ve just got to get used to it.

Which AFL team do you support?
I’m a [Adelaide] Crows man at heart but have been jumping on the Carlton bandwagon, now they’re playing all right. [Hartlett's brother Adam is on Carlton's list]

Which AFL players do you try to model yourself on?
I love the way Gary Ablett junior and Chris Judd go about their business. Their balance and composure and that sort of thing; their poise is fantastic and first class. I suppose if I said anyone, it would be those two. I admire (Melbourne/Adelaide’s) Scotty Thompson. He has a fantastic work rate and finds the ball a lot of the time.

Watch highlights of Nick Heyne in action - http://bigpondvideo.com/AFLTV/64059 (http://bigpondvideo.com/AFLTV/64059)

What sort of player are you?
I’m a wingman/full-forward type of player. I’m pretty quick on my feet and fairly strong in the air.

Strengths?
I like to think I’m a fairly good running player both ways.

Weaknesses?
Ground balls with two hands … I can tend to go at them with one hand every now and again.

Which AFL team do you support?
Kangaroos.

Which AFL player do you feel you most resemble?
Probably Andrew Embley from West Coast. He’s a tall wingman who runs pretty hard, so [he’s got] pretty similar attributes as well. I like to watch him mainly, so I try to base my game around his.

What type of player are you?
I’m a centre half-forward who can play a lead-up role and also kick a few goals.

Strengths?
My marking and kicking are definitely my strengths. My speed isn’t too bad either – I'm pretty fast.

Weaknesses?
My weakness is my defensive side. I need to chase better and do a few more one-percenters.

Which AFL club do you support?
I’ve always supported Collingwood.

Which AFL player do you most resemble?
The clubs haven’t compared me with anyone, they’ve more just asked me who I compare myself to. I try to play like a Nick Riewoldt or Travis Cloke-type role.

I’m a half-back flanker who likes to zone off a bit. I like to run off and get the handball receives, so I try to work forward as well as defensively.

Strengths?
Judging the ball. I read the play pretty well.

Weaknesses?
I could work on everything, but probably my kicking and being a bit more accountable at times.

Which AFL team do you support?
Sydney Swans; the whole family pretty much follows them except for Dad who barracks for Carlton.

Which AFL player do you feel you most resemble?
I base myself on Nathan Bock a bit … someone said I look a bit like him, too.

What are your strengths?
I’ve probably taken a few good marks here and there. I’ve played forward and back – versatility’s probably been my strength this carnival; being able to play either end of the ground and do a job either forward or back.

Weaknesses?
Probably more athletic stuff. My fitness has been good, but my speed and agility is probably something I need to work on to be the best I can be.

Which AFL team do you support?
Kangaroos.

Which AFL player do you feel you most resemble?
Obviously the best tall players, probably (Nick) Riewoldt, just because of his run, and (Jonathan) Brown [for his] big contested marking, just those sorts of guys. Matty Pavlich, along with Matthew Richardson. They’re probably the four I admire the most.

Watch highlights of Sam McGarry in action - http://bigpondvideo.com/afl/84567 (http://bigpondvideo.com/afl/84567)

What sort of player are you?
I'm very athletic. I like to run and carry the footy. I'm pretty agile and I play in the midfield, which is exciting, so I'm definitely a running player.

Strengths?
My speed and endurance – the physical side of the game.

Weaknesses?
Maybe my temperament sometimes. I could always improve on my left-foot kicking.

Which AFL team do you support?
West Coast. I was born in Perth, so I go for the Eagles. I was over there for the first few years after I was born and then I moved to Victoria. We actually moved to Kyabram, near Shepparton and Echuca, and then I moved to East Bentleigh and have been there ever since.

Which AFL player do you feel you most resemble?
I'd like to say Chris Judd or Gary Ablett, but I'm not sure – that's a tough question. I see bits of me in different players.

What type of player are you?
I’m a medium-sized forward, so I like playing anywhere around the goals.

Strengths?
I’d probably say my speed and my marking. I did three seconds flat last time I did the 20m sprint, so that’s probably one of my biggest attributes.

Weaknesses?
My strength would be my biggest weakness. I’m certainly not the biggest guy out there, but my fitness isn’t too bad.

Which AFL team do you support?
Port Adelaide.

Which AFL player do you most resemble?
I suppose I do resemble my brother Daniel. We look pretty similar and I don’t mind taking a big mark and kicking a goal too. I don’t try and model myself on him, but people always say we’re exactly the same.

A high-leaping ruckman with outstanding pace, vertical leap and agility. Naitanui's tackling is also a feature of his game. A dual All-Australian at under-18 level in 2007/08. An AIS/AFL Academy graduate. From Midvale JFC.

Watch highlights of Nicholas Naitanui in action - http://bigpondvideo.com/AFLTV/64092

What sort of player are you?
I see myself as a ruckman but I also like to move around the ground a bit. I like the backline, I like centre half-back, playing down there and reading the play. I’ve got to play down there a little bit with my WAFL club and I’ve also had a little run on the wing.

Strengths?
Yeah, probably my leap, and maybe my speed for a big bloke.

Weaknesses?
Probably my shots [at goal] from around 50m out, and my kicking overall. Also maybe my positioning to mark, that’s probably my major thing.

Which AFL team do you support?
I’m a Collingwood supporter, but I don’t really mind the Eagles and Fremantle either.

Which AFL player do you feel you most resemble?
I’m trying to mould myself on someone like a Dean Cox. I also like Adam Goodes as well. Big blokes that can ruck and run around.

What sort of player are you?
I’m a midfielder who doesn’t mind getting in-and-under.

Strengths?
My left foot is okay, and I guess being an in-and-under type is probably a strength.

Weaknesses?
I know I can get a lot fitter. I can get my work rate up a lot more in games.

Which AFL team do you support?
I’m a West Coast supporter.

Which AFL player do you feel you most resemble?
Maybe kind of Luke Hodge just because of the left foot.

Draft countdown: Jordan Roughead
By Chelsea Roffey
Sun 16 November, 2008

DOB: 3/11/90
Height: 199cm
Weight: 87kg
Club: North Ballarat/Lake Wendouree

A developing ruckman with good endurance and good at ground level. Roughhead's ruck work is a feature of his game. From Lake Wendouree FC.

Pic - http://mm.afl.com.au/Portals/0/images/AFL/AFL%20P-T/Roughead246x316a.jpg (http://mm.afl.com.au/Portals/0/images/AFL/AFL%20P-T/Roughead246x316a.jpg)

Watch highlights of Jordan Roughead in action - http://bigpondvideo.com/AFLTV/64090 (http://bigpondvideo.com/AFLTV/64090)

What sort of player are you?
I like the ruck. I’ve played most of my time in the ruck. I’ve only played a couple of years. I started at under-13s and was a full-back for a couple of years and then made the Rebels under-16s and went into the ruck and it’s all gone from there pretty much.
For North Ballarat I play in the ruck and full-forward.

Strengths?
Probably my ruck tap work, my leap and my marking ability.

Weaknesses?
Reading the play, getting to more contests and I guess working on my disposal a bit more.

Which AFL club do you support?
I barrack for the Western Bulldogs. My old man played ressies (reserves) for the Bulldogs in the late '70s I think, so I just caught on there. He gives me a bit of advice and helps out a bit.

Which AFL player do you feel you most resemble?
I always loved watching Luke Darcy and thought I played a bit like him, but after playing against Matt Kreuzer last year I’m trying to develop my game on him and what he used to do.

Draft countdown: Ryan Schoenmakers
By Katrina Gill
Mon 17 November, 2008

DOB: 8/11/90
Height: 189cm
Weight: 85kg
Club: Norwood, SA

A forward with good endurance, Schoenmakers is strong overhead, effective by foot on either side and can kick goals. A South Australian under-18 representative in 2008. From Tea Tree Gully FC.

Pic - http://mm.afl.com.au/Portals/0/images/AFL/AFL%20P-T/Schoenmakers246xWIM.jpg (http://mm.afl.com.au/Portals/0/images/AFL/AFL%20P-T/Schoenmakers246xWIM.jpg)

Watch highlights of Ryan Schoenmakers in action - http://bigpondvideo.com/afl/84564 (http://bigpondvideo.com/afl/84564)

What sort of player are you?
I’d say I’m an athletic centre half-forward. I like to cover a fair bit of ground and deliver the ball to the full-forwards.

Strengths?
My biggest strengths are probably my skills and my athleticism. For a big guy, those two attributes come in handy and I’m not too bad at taking a mark overhead either.

Weaknesses?
My weakness is probably at the one-on-one contests. I tend to get pushed out the way at marking contests a bit, so I need to work on my upper body strength and get better in that area.

Which AFL club do you support?
I’ve always been a Crows man.

Which AFL player do you most resemble?
I suppose I’m a bit similar to Ryan O’Keefe. He runs a lot, has good skills and works up the ground a lot, as well as kicking goals, so he’s someone I watch a lot.

Draft countdown: Jamie Sheahan
By Chelsea Roffey
Tue 18 November, 2008

DOB: 11/8/90
Height: 178cm
Weight: 73kg
Club: Murray Bushrangers/Assumption College

Sheahan is a small midfielder with pace who can go forward and kick goals. He led Assumption College to its win in the Herald Sun Shield this year. A Vic Country representative at the NAB AFL under-18 championships. From Mansfield FC.

Pic - http://mm.afl.com.au/Portals/0/images/AFL/AFL%20P-T/Sheahan246x316d.jpg (http://mm.afl.com.au/Portals/0/images/AFL/AFL%20P-T/Sheahan246x316d.jpg)

Watch highlights of Jamie Sheahan in action - http://bigpondvideo.com/AFLTV/63097

What sort of player are you?
Predominately I play on the ball, rover. I don’t mind pushing forward to a forward flank. In the national championships I probably changed on the ball, and for the Bushrangers and my school I pretty much play on the ball, swapping up forward.

Strengths?
Maybe agility and leg speed, but probably my skills and speed off the mark.

Weaknesses?
Work rate and trying to get to as many contests as possible

Which AFL team do you support?
I don’t like saying this much of the time, but Richmond.

Which AFL player do you feel you most resemble?
I probably just try to take the good attributes of most players … maybe a Shane Crawford or someone like that. Someone who plays on the ball and likes to go down forward and kick a couple of goals.

Draft countdown: Luke Shuey
By Matt Burgan
Wed 19 November, 2008

DOB: 02/06/90
Height: 185cm
Weight: 84kg
Club: Oakleigh Chargers

Shuey is an inside midfielder who excels at stoppages and has good ball-winning ability. He has pace and can go forward with good effect. A Vic Metro under-18 representative in 2008. From Marcellin College.

What sort of player are you?
I'm generally an inside player and I don't run with the ball that much. I play midfield. I generally rest forward with Oakleigh and also my school team [Marcellin College].

Strengths?
My clearance work and aerobic capacity are my two main strengths.

Weaknesses?
I've been told I've got to start kicking a few goals as a midfielder. I've also been told to get my speed under three seconds for 20m. I ran a 2.94 [at the NAB AFL Draft Camp], but those two areas.

Which AFL team do you support?
I'm a Melbourne supporter.

Which AFL player do you feel you most resemble?
I model my game around Nathan Jones. I do most of my work inside and I've got a bash-and-crash game. I like that stuff and I look up to him.

Draft countdown: Steele Sidebottom
By Chelsea Roffey
Thu 20 November, 2008

DOB: 2/1/91
Height: 182cm
Weight: 79kg
Club: Murray/Congupna

Sidebottom is a medium defender with neat disposal by foot who can go forward with devastating effect. He is strong overhead and in one-on-one contests. An AIS/AFL Academy graduate and Vic Country representative in 2008, when he won All-Australian honours. From Congupna FC.

Pic - http://mm.afl.com.au/Portals/0/images/AFL/AFL%20P-T/Sidebottom246xWIM.jpg (http://mm.afl.com.au/Portals/0/images/AFL/AFL%20P-T/Sidebottom246xWIM.jpg)

Watch highlights of Steele Sidebottom in action - http://bigpondvideo.com/AFLTV/64043 (http://bigpondvideo.com/AFLTV/64043)

What sort of player are you?
This year I’ve started to go down back a bit, so I’m a bit of a running half-back flanker. But I like to go into the midfield a bit and get amongst it. Last year I played predominately midfield and swapping up forward. I hadn’t really played [in the] backline before.

Strengths?
I like to think I’m good on both sides of my body.

Weaknesses?
I suppose I can build myself up a bit, and get a bit more bulk. I also need to get a bit more accountable for my man.

Which AFL team do you support?
The Bombers. I went there for a week (Sidebottom is a member of the AIS/AFL Academy) and that was really good.

Which AFL player do you feel you most resemble?
I don’t really know. Lindsay Gilbee goes pretty well down in the backline and he’s really good on both sides of his body.

Fri 21 November, 2008

DOB: 3/12/90
Height: 189cm
Weight: 81kg
Club: West Adelaide/Edwardstown

Slattery is a running defender who is good one-on-one both in the air and on the ground. A South Australian under-18 representative in 2007/08.

Pic - http://mm.afl.com.au/Portals/0/images/AFL/AFL%20P-T/Slattery246x316b.jpg (http://mm.afl.com.au/Portals/0/images/AFL/AFL%20P-T/Slattery246x316b.jpg)

Watch highlights of Tyson Slattery in action - http://bigpondvideo.com/AFLTV/85160 (http://bigpondvideo.com/AFLTV/85160)

Strengths?
Shutting down the man, making the right decisions – whether to punch or mark, being in front.

Weaknesses?
My carnival hasn’t been the best, I expect better from myself. [I’ve been] learning off the other talented players. You’re playing against the best in the states and just learning the positions – where you should run to, when you should go, when you should stay. I’ll go back to my club and I reckon I’ll be a better player because of the carnival.

Which AFL team do you support?
I’m a Crows boy.

Which AFL player do you feel you most resemble?
(Essendon’s) Dustin Fletcher – he has a similar body structure. We don’t have much weight but he can take on the biggest players and the strongest players and do a good job on them. Adam McPhee, from Essendon, for his versatility. I see myself as a backman but I could also go up forward on a wing. Also, Adam Hunter from West Coast. I believe all three of them are really versatile.

We get moved around. When I go back to club football I’ll play up on a wing or forward line but when I come out to state, it’s backman and away you go.

DOB: 17/03/90
Height: 182cm
Weight: 76kg
Club: Eastern Ranges

He is a competitive defender who can also play in the midfield or forward. Sloane wins his own ball, is strong overhead and is excellent in one-on-one situations. A Vic Metro under-18 representative in 2008. From Upwey-Tecoma FC.

Watch highlights of Rory Sloane in action - http://bigpondvideo.com/afl/84560 (http://bigpondvideo.com/afl/84560)

What sort of player are you?
I'm a pretty competitive player. I don't like to lose at all.

Strengths?
I'm a hard, inside midfielder. I get that handball out, so I consider myself as an inside man, with clean hands out the back. I can still run and carry the ball all right, but I like it tough.

Weaknesses?
I can't express them. I can't let people know my weaknesses. Kryptonite is my weakness – just joking.

Which AFL team do you support?
St Kilda. I'm a Saints man and I love Robert Harvey and Nick Riewoldt. I've looked at them for inspiration. I love the way Harvey works. I met him here [at the NAB AFL Draft Camp]. The first day I saw him here and I went up and shook his hand. I said: "Harvs, good season." I'm in awe in him.

Which AFL player do you feel you most resemble?
I'm not quite his talent, but I'd love to resemble Robert Harvey. He won two Brownlows and he was unlucky not to win a premiership. He works hard and never tires, so I'd like to think of myself as like Harvs.

Watch highlights of Nick Suban in action - http://bigpondvideo.com/AFLTV/63195

What sort of player are you?
I’m probably an inside or outside sort of player. I don’t mind getting in and getting it or receiving it outside either. I try to win the contests as well as get it in a bit of space. I pride myself on my kicking and try to hit as many targets as I can.

Strengths?
Probably my kicking. If I can hit most of my targets I’ll be pretty happy.

Weaknesses?
My fitness I think. Getting from contest to contest, I can find that a bit hard at times.

Which AFL team do you support?
St Kilda.

Which AFL player do you feel you most resemble?
I’m a St Kilda supporter so I’ve always grown up liking Robert Harvey and Nick Dal Santo and those types of blokes. I just love the way they go about it. I really admire Harvey’s work rate, so if I could get something like his fitness it’d be great.

Draft countdown: Tyrone Vickery
By Chelsea Roffey
Mon 24 November, 2008

DOB: 31/5/90
Height: 200cm
Weight: 86kg
Club: Sandringham/Haileybury College

Vickery is a strong-marking ruckman who can go forward with great effect. He is a competitive player with good decision-making ability. A Vic Metro under-18 representative in 2008, winning All-Australian honours. An AIS/AFL Academy graduate. From Haileybury College.

Strengths?
I think I’m very good at competing in the air. I try either to mark it or bring it to the front for our crumbers. Just some honest contests and I try and not just be a tall player but an athletic player as well, and I try to lay some tackles.

Weaknesses?
I’m still working on my endurance. I’ve had to cut back on the running to make sure my knee doesn’t flare up again or anything, or swell up. But now the carnival’s over I’m going to look at training a lot more for my running and hopefully run out games better.

Which AFL team do you support?
Richmond.

Which AFL player do you feel you most resemble?
The two (Richmond) ruckmen, Troy Simmonds and Adam Pattison. I think both are different types of ruckmen but I admire both very much. And obviously Matthew Richardson when I’m up forward; his work rate’s exceptional.

I admire Dean Cox, the fact that he’s a ruckman as well, the fact that he doesn’t just sit back, he’s considered another on-baller is really good I think, so I try and model myself on people like that. Even hard defenders – I like Leo Barry. I like his run, his flair.
