Title: Leadership Group
Post by: Tiger Khosh on November 05, 2018, 01:12:54 PM
Might seem ridiculous to consider given the success of our 3 man team in the last 2 seasons but would anyone consider making any changes?

Personally would keep it as is for the coming season but does anyone think its time to introduce one of the future captains like vlastuin or someone whose essentially doing the job without the title like grimes?

You'd think Ellis or Vlastuin would be in line to captain the club in the next 2-3 years so yeah, interesting idea. Whether they get promoted or just step into the role when the time comes is something the club will have to consider.

I'd keep it as is for now personally

Wouldn’t be surprised if Bellis gets AA captain in the future

Could be a world first receiving it in both men's and women's divisions  :shh

BEllis has as much chance of captaining the RFC as I do and I'm OLD and no chance  ;D

I'd promote Vlastuin into the group for next season

Very big call, WP. I think you're both in with a chance. The players would follow you into battle I reckon, but keep the locker room talk free of anything that could result in legal action! :shh

We're trying to answer your leadership question and we think it'll be Brando or Floss to take over mate. Gee, don't get upset over logic.

Actually thinking about it a little more

Should we consider a "junior" leadership program? What I mean is get a couple of the younger blokes to sit in on leadership meetings etc, to learn from the main 3?

didn't we do this previously ? was sure Tigga was in some sort of junior leadership group

Of the young players I only think vlastuin is an obvious choice. While graham looks likely would much prefer him to focus on his development.

Like I said I think grimes is more than worthy of being in the group as he has previously but I’d leave it as is based on the results of the past 2 seasons.

Have also been very impressed with how dusty has developed as a leader over the past couple of seasons.

Yep...think this is already in place.

Would leave it as it is for now. Smaller group lends itself to greater harmony and alignment within the group especially our group at this time

I know we used to have it, Astbury was in it

Title: Leadership group 2019: Cotch to remain captain
Post by: one-eyed on January 29, 2019, 07:14:16 PM
Trent Cotchin will again captain Richmond this year for the seventh season, with Alex Rance and Jack Riewoldt in pole position to continue as vice-captains.

Richmond’s challenge under coach Damien Hardwick and leadership consultant Shane McCurry is how to fast-track the growing list of emerging leaders.

“We haven’t sat down and talked about it but Cotch will be captain next year,” Balme said.

“We are talking about different layers and levels of leadership.”

Lynch will quickly emerge with strong leadership, while the Tigers believe Martin is building a strong leadership profile despite his reluctance to talk in the media.

Martin played lame in the preliminary final loss to Collingwood but after admitting replicating 2017’s heroics was tough last year, is in superb physical shape.

“He is in a really good place. He is fit, is he well, he is mentally really good and he’s keen to play well,” Balme said.

Rance, who has made the All Australian side for five straight seasons, expects Trent Cotchin to once again skipper Richmond, with himself and Riewoldt as deputies.

"I think it'll just be Jack, Trent and myself, pretty similar," Rance said.

Meanwhile, the Tigers will take an unchanged leadership group into 2019 for a third successive season.

It will be Trent Cotchin's seventh season as captain and he will be supported by vice-captains Alex Rance and Jack Riewoldt.

The 2012 Brownlow medallist, who captained the club to the 2017 premiership, will overtake club legend Jack Dyer's record of 160 games as skipper if he plays 21 matches this season.

Cotchin will then become the second-longest Richmond skipper behind Percy Bentley (168 games from 1932 to 1940).
