Who when they first started did you think would make it but flopped at Richmond?
Mine were:
Craig Smith from around the late 80's/early 90's - skillful as a youngster but didn't do much at senior level.
Barry Young - did alright at the bombers. He needed to play in a good side. Got frustrated at Tigerland.
Paddy Steinfort - injury prone over 5 years :(.
Dragga - 2 consecutive knee recos put an end to that :(.
Pettifer ;D - 3 goals in his first game. Remember the roar from the supporters. It's been a different roar since lol.
-
Justin Plapp.
-
Richo and Ottens.
Thought Richo would be a world beater after 1996. By 2000 I had totally given up on him. Still a very good player but I thought he would be great.
After 2001 I thought Ottens was set to soar. He has done jack schit since and i have already pigeonholed him as an underachiever. A bt premature at his age I know. But I think the die has been cast.
Thought Pickering would be a gun too but he somewhat died in the arrs.
-
Definitely Ashley Plopp.
For some reason I thought Ashley Blurton was going to make the big time.
Merenda had the talent, but was unlucky with injuries.
Clinton King started pretty well and at that time we looked big winners from that deal IIRC.
-
For me, Stephen Ryan.
First season, was on fire - kicked about 45 goals or something playing on wing/half fwd, and a sad reflection on the team at the time was that he was our highest goal kicker for the year.
Second season - dud!
-
Brett Mahoney - first bloke to be given 29 after KB I think... From De La Selle and was meant to be a gun.
Richard Lounder - Biggus Dikcus - 6 goals and then a flop
Aaron Fiora - Pick 3..BWAAAHHHH - like an Andrew Walker if you ask me.. Saints problem now.
Matty Dundas - at least he won the lottery, Brodders and Butch were excellent though.
AND JAMIE ELLIOTT - the fiora of the 90s.
Ty Esler and Pat Steinfort - the great ruck promises. Both duds and had to at one stage rely on getting Strawbs O'Dywer from Melb (and Dear - who was fantastic incidently).
- Just on that note the last time we drafted two recycled ruckman was 1994 - Dear and O'Dwyer (I think it was the same year).
We just missed the finals that year, and in 1995 made the prelim with some classic players.
Will this happen again???
-
I was one of the few people excited about Paul Hudson - and Justin Blumfield. Ottens too looked promising after 2001.
-
No doubts, Jason Smith.
-
Peter Laughlin - Could play CHF, CHB or FB
Ken Stonehouse - gun in the U19's and two who had no fear and tackled everything. Couldn't get a kick in the ones.
Greg Naylor - sublime skills
Glynn Hewitt - 6 or 7 goals in in his first two games.
-
Michael Raidis- He was from SA and in his first year played the whole season in the two's. i remember watching him play at punt road before the seniors and he would always be showing plenty of leadership and direction on the field. He also used to contribute well to the team.
After his first season he got delisted.
I thought that he was going to be a future leader of the club.
Others would include:
Plappy, Steinfort and Morrison(currently on the lst)

Was worse Moisie...only about 31 or 32 goals :banghead
-
Greg Hamilton...thought he was destined to get a footy card :lol
And Bruce Lennon too.
-
Greg Hamilton was the player in the late 80.s/early 90.s who ran onto the ground from the interchange with his tracksuit top on during the game. He ran 100 metres before he realised. He was keen !
-
Bruce Lennon by a mile - although he was finally starting to play some good footy and I think Northey or Jeans axed him :banghead - I don't think he dudded out I still reckon he was treated poorly
Wayne Hernamen from W.A. a.k.a Wayne Walkabout :P
Stehpen Mount - what happened to him after 1980/81 :-[
Kayne Pettifer is fast approaching "was gonna road" too :help
-
I too thought Plapp and Dragga were going to be good things. I also had high hopes for Paddy Steinfort.
Steven Jurica, Mark Merenda, Trent Nicholls from earlier days.
-
Can I please now add Chris Pym ;D and Stephen Jurica :rollin :rollin
-
Brett Evans, the birdman really flew a few times, and kicked some good goals.
I also wonder what Justin Charles would've become if he didn't do what he did :-\
-
Stevan Jackson
Justin Plapp
and a bit off track I though Mc Kee would become a good player too.
-
Justin Charles was a big dissapontment.I expected him to becomne the best ruckmen in the AFL.
Dragga should've been alot better.Just had bad luck I guess.
Rodan I expected to be alot better than he's turned out to be.Hopefully he's a late bloomer.
Booogieknights is the most dissapointing though.I imagine his parents are rather embarrassed. :cheers
-
Yes, I would think that Boogie has somewhat under achieved playing C grade ammo,s ;)
On a serios note, was watchinga tape of Craig Ednie the other night, he should of made although his size was the problem, real live wire
