Title: Player review: 35. Matthew White
Post by: one-eyed on November 15, 2006, 02:11:28 AM
After being the final Tiger to make it onto Richmond's senior list via the PSD, Matty White played 11 AFL games in his debut season after making his debut in round 10 against Freo. He finished playing in the final 10 matches of the year. In total he averaged 11 disposals per match. He also earlier in the year played 9 games at Coburg where he earnt his call-up.

Excellent - shows paces, reasonable skill (needs to improve in this area of course), strength and lots grunt.

For a late pick-up (PSD) could become a bargain :thumbsup

Considering he was overlooked in the national draft, he has started his AFL career very well. A bargain, that's for sure.Seems to have a good approach, and the required desire to succeed.

Just goes to show you're better off going for a youngster than waste a spot on a recycled player who'll last just a year. Wasn't the only reason White missed out on getting picked up in the National Draft was because he missed a fair bit of footy last year due to injury?

The Tiges must rate him, because he's in the Membership brochure, they wouldn't put someone without a lot of potential in that thing.

I would say that the Tigers must rate him because he played 11 games, did really well at Coburg before earning Tiger selection and they extended his first contract out to three years with a big pay rise. :clapping

Putting a head into a brochure doesn't mean much I would think.

He was obviously the best of the new guys because he played so many games, but it will be interesting to see if he can keep his spot when the injured Tigers such as Chris Newman, Will Thursfield and mark Couglan are ready to roar.

I hope he does because he has a red hot go, is as fast and as tough as they come, and his skills are pretty good and improving.

If we move one or both of Newy (once his leg is right) and Raines into the midfield over the next couple of years that would keep a spot open for Matty.

Good debut season.  I like the cut of his jib.

Has the potential to be a 7 to 10 year player and fill the Mark Chaffey role with great aplomb.

to play the last ten consecutive games of the season speaks volumes (and not because its last man standing) for this young man
always gives 100%  shows natural ability and has a good sense of where  to play to
will be harder for him to be in the 22 in 07 as some guns return and other youngsters put there hands up but if he misses out it wont be from not trying
as others have posted already i expect to see this Tiger around for quite a few years
