I was asked a really interesting trivia question the other night.... go it right too BTW ;D
Outside of Chris Judd - who is the only other player to be appointed Captain of his new Club without having played a game for them?
...........
-
Do Captain/Coaches count?
-
Ron Barassi.
At Carlton, of course.
-
Do Captain/Coaches count?
Oh yeah, he left as captain of Melbourne to captain-coach.
Ditto to mjs's question.
-
Technically what about the first captains ever for each club :thumbsup

No - captain only
-
Barry Davis
-
Ross Glendinniing was captain of Eagles in their inaugural year.
Does captaining a new side count - was his first season ;D

Barry Davis

A Richmond question;
What number has won the most B&F's at the Richmond Football Club ?

17?
-
Yeah, I was thinking 4 but Jack Dyer played for a hundred years and won heaps of them. KJ recently as captain and I think Brodders won one.
-
Royce Hart wore no 4 and so did Geoff Raines could be a dark horse.
17 is definentely a front runner. Dyer Barry Richardson did he win a B&F Kane Brodders?
33 David Cloke ? Matty Knights anyone beyond that?
-
A Richmond question;

17?
Correct to a degree - Number 17 has won 12 in total, however there is conjecture as to the 1st in #17 because Rhett's book lists Bill Bourke as having no number & no B&F, however the 2007 annual reports lists Bill Bourke winning the B&F as the Tigers of Old book has him in #17.
But saying that Number 17 has won 2 more than the next number.
-

#4 has the second most with 10 in total.
Interestingly, #4 has the most multiple winners in
Dave Cuzens (2)
Royce Hart (2)
Geoff Raines (3)
The most recent winner in #4 was ... Craig Lambert

I thought they didn't have numbers on the back of guernseys until 1910-11 or thereabouts. Bill Bourke was our leading goalkicker in the club's first 2 years in the VFL.

Thought so to MT, perhaps the history books are being "modernised".
-
OK, fresh question.
Which club applied to join the then VFL in 1980 ?
-
Claremont?
Swan Districts?
Port Adelaide?
Too young to remember.
-
East Perth
-
East Perth
Correct
-
OK, another one.
Which post war 2-time Richmond B&F winner coached South Launceston ?
-
OK, another one.
Which post war 2-time Richmond B&F winner coached South Launceston ?
I don't know this one so I'll have a guess and say Ian Stewart.

No, Stewart won "only" the 1971 B&F.
Finally, got you MT !!
Clue: he was a premiership player.
Anyone else ???
-
Royce Hart
-
Royce Hart
Sorry, Moi.
The player/coach in question was actually recruited by RFC from within Victoria.
-
Max Oppy?
-
Max Oppy?
Not this time MT, Max's 43 premiership was during the war. Max's top finish was to run 2nd in the '53 B&F.
Clue: During this players time as coach at Sth Launceston, he was coaching against a side under the stewardship of a premiership team-mate.
-
The Flea
-
The Flea
Bingo ! Dale Weightman is correct.
Mark Lee was coaching Burnie in 1987, whilst Flea was at the Sth Launceston Bulldogs.
It was a pretty good comp back then as the united TFL with Rhys-Jones also coaching North Launceston, unfortunately the TFL has since re-divided into a north/south bias.

OK, its been awhile, here is a question based on the twin pronged success in 08 of Brisbane's Jon Brown & Daniel Bradshaw.
Has the 1st & 2nd leading goalkickers in a VFL/AFL season ever came from the same club ?
-
Has the 1st & 2nd leading goalkickers in a VFL/AFL season ever came from the same club ?
Did Roach and KB do it in 1980. 112 and 80 or thereabouts.

Close, but no dice. I think Templeton may have split them in his Brownlow year.
-
I can't think of any other year we (Richmond) might have done it and I don't remember any club doing it in the modern era (past 20 years) even with Dunstall, Lockett, Ablett, Carey and Lloyd.
Next total guess is Hudson and Matthews in 1977.
