Is Maurice O'Shannassy stepping down or is he becoming the appointed director?

What's happened to Maurice O'Shannassy? Is he becoming an appointed director or has he stepped down from the Board?

Would seem he is going to be the "appointed Director" for this term. He certainly hasn't stepped down
Was never in favour of this appointed Director business and this highlights to me at least its pitfalls.
Wonder if he remains as Vice President under this set up
-
WP do you think this "appointed director"system could end up becoming a sort of jobs for the boys set up where they rotate this position amongst themselves, aside from the fact that it seems a little undemocratic

Bingo Gigantor hence why I am not a fan.
The way I read it is an appointed director is appointed by the board for a 2 year term and then must stand down but that person can then stand for a vacant position that becomes available when those up for election have to stand down and re-nominate.
So you have the situation where an elected director doesn't seek re-election but becomes the appointed director and the former appointed director becomes an elected director by standing and getting elected unopposed.
And around and around we go
-
Is this unique to richmond only?..And what was the clubs logic for this?
-
nah other clubs do it, as do many corporations in the business world.
two directors getting re elected unopposed and people are worried about the democratic process? how many members even bother voting when there is an election?
If you want proof that a popularity contest does not bring in the best people for the job, just have a look at our politicians
-
AL agreed that many of us members dont bother voting.maybe the tiges should take a leaf out of the electoral process and make it compulsory(LOL).
Secondly, generally the democratic process produces far better representaives than does an undemocratic one..eg the whole communist/Royal/fascist fraternity.
-
dont get me started on compulsory voting. its the scourge of democracy.
there is a bit of difference between a board of directors selecting the best qualified candidate and communist/monarchy/facist dictatorships.
It should be remembered that those that do the appointing still have to face the members to be re-elected (if anyone bothers to run against them) and the members can call a Special General Meeting and hole the directors if they think it is necessary.
-
I reckon we just let these wankers do what they want because the average Joe knows SFA about most of the board. And that's the way these wankers like it. Let's just sit back and watch it all unfold ;D

Before they face the members though prospective candidates face the "Nominations Committee" and are interviewed and there in lies the other "problem"
Granted the Nominations Committee cannot stop anyone from nominating but ..... :whistle :whistle ;D

If your fairdinkum like your self WP you turn up to an AGM. I would've thought if you were really interested about running for the board then that would be something you'd attend especially if you were considering a position in the future. Just a thought.

A pretty non eventful meeting to be honest
Went through the financials. Regarding the operating profit outside of the FTF monies; what Mr RFC_O posted the other day is what was repeated tonight. The club views fundraising as significant part of business operations.
Life membership were awarded to:
Shane Tuck - 150 games
John Kelly - former head trainer (richly deserved for a terrific bloke :thumbsup)
Gary March.
Dimma gave his view of the year ahead. Introduced the new players except those drafted yesterday who weren't there. The top 5 B&F winners were also there
Questions taken from the floor.
The same bloke from last year asked the same question he asked last year. When will the debt be paid off and how much of it is current and non-current. Answer was if it isn't paid off by the end of 2013 it will definitely be paid off by 2014 and it is current debt.
Someone then asked about VFL games at Punt Road in 2014 what sort of crowds they were hoping for etc . We were told that before being able to play games there the ground needs more work done to bring it up to standard to host games eg opposition change rooms, toilets. They reckon this will cost about another million.
That was about it really
-
I'd just like to add that I found the informality of the new player introductions a bit irritating. It's really the main reason I attend, and in the past they've always lined up on the podium so you can get a good look at the size of them, and try to memorize their mugs. Tonight they all just turned around sheepishly in their seats for about half a second.
Oh and Mighty Tigers, our mutual friend never ceases to amaze me. As we left the building we were standing at the Punt Road lights when she said she forgot her sunnies and was going back for them. I told her she'd have to go back tomorrow as we were the last out and they'd locked up, and she calmly waggled a set of keys. Forget Gary March, I reckon she really runs the place. :lol

Hope that they're not relying on TFTF for future profits. Club has to find ways of generating their own money rather than putting their hand out to supporters constantly.

Well at least we got a sheepish wave of sorts of from a couple of them ;D
Thought the video was average as well
Actually thought it was a great opportunity to hear from the new Captain as well but no. On stage as the JD medallist for less than a couple of minutes, a round of applause and he and the others were back in their seats

Well they will be receiving money from the FTF for a while yet as although there has been $6mil "pledged" the actually money is coming in over time. I also think that when they talk of fundraising they are looking at other things on top of the FTF, what those things are I don't know. Would think the FTF is the base but then other things on top of that
The other thing I found interesting is they said the Wantrina Club turned a good profit this year which is very good news seeing the thing's been a white elephant financially for years

In further good news from the AGM, Dimma said that Vickery was flying on the training track, and that Dylan Grimes had come up well from his operation. He also said that Vlastuin and Steve Morris had a bit of a punch-up on the training track. I like to see that kind of ferocity, but I hope they've put all that behind them.....

Excellent! If Vlastuin in his first few weeks is not scared or overawed to go at it with our hardest nut then that can only be a good thing. One thing our side can do with with collectively is a bit more mongrel.

Cheers, so are they planning to do the work required to be able to play VFL games @ PRO ?
-
im sure the club has other ideas to complement
the FTF.
there is only one Jeanie Pratt in CFC's case.
2014 looks interesting.
-
Cheers, so are they planning to do the work required to be able to play VFL games @ PRO ?
They are but it may not be completed in time for 2014. Gary March said if its not finished by 2014 it will by 2015
And before anyone ask they gave no indication as to where games would played if PRO is not ready
-
Craigieburn, if Weeble apologises for that poo

yeh is suppose the ground part is only one part of the equation, in this age
OH/S all the facilities will have to be upgraded.
which we entail more costs, i would be surprised if they didnt realise this.
i think 2015 might be a more realistic target unless we have a huge year
on the field which would generate some seroius dollars for the club.
big IF, i know. :thumbsup

Thanks for that WP. I'm presuming at that cost it'll mean we'll be constructing a new building for the opposition changerooms etc?

That's going to be one big museum. We can't get Heritage Victoria to stump up some money to get the stand structurally sound enough to be a fully restored building to house patrons?
And while we are at it, lobby the AFL and Football Victoria to stump up the cash to put some change rooms?
IIRC we had change rooms there many moons ago along with offices, a gym and a boardroom - do we need all of that space for a mueseum.
Make it a football stadium Tigers, have 3rd parties fund or part fund the venture and use it to raise income and improve facilities. Win, Win get it done - ;D

The AFL/Footy Vic (same beast really) have already put in money as part of the original $22 mil upgrade cannot see them putting anymore $$ in and quite frankly (IMO) they shouldn't.
Ditto "other 3rd parties" been there and done that. Unless you are talking about a private company throwing up the funding. All the of funding for the $22mil upgrade bascially camed from 3rd parties = AFL, Fed & State Govts, Melb City Council
RFC have decided to stand alone in the VFL (which I agree with BTW) so it is up to the RFC to get their home ground up to scratch

Why don't the opposition get changed and show across the. Road at the cricketers arms ffs?? :shh
