so okeefe, findlayson and haynes are all out.
our forwards need to wake up this game, they have hardly a defence to compete against.
-
We've got a heap out but we still have a lot of quality players available.
-
Ive thought that our injuries would be too much for us before and time and time again the tiges have proved me wrong. Even Hardwick said that our midfield has been destroyed.
This is when we can win off our pressure alone ! And I think we can steal the win against gws.
Prove them wrong again boys !!
-
We've got a heap out but we still have a lot of quality players available.
We got smashed last week and have Bolton (our best player this year) and Edwards out from that team. Grimes back in is a big advantage but I still expect us to struggle and lose.
-
HOW DEEP do Richmond's midfield stocks run? We're about to find out.
The two-time reigning premier is staring down the barrel of what is effectively an entire starting midfield sidelined and will be coming up against a GWS engine room that's growing in confidence after a slow start to 2021.
On Saturday night, they'll be coming up against a midfield that boasts contested-ball specialists Jacob Hopper, Tim Taranto, Callan Ward, Josh Kelly and Tom Green.
After a surprise period of clearance dominance during the 2020 finals series, the Tigers have reverted to a side who have struggled in that area, a common theme across its flag run.
They sit 13th in average clearance differential and 16th for average clearances, above only the lowly Hawthorn and North Melbourne.
A further two players will need to join a midfield that's already being held together by a decent-sized roll of strapping tape, with last Friday night's centre bounce attendees as follows:
Dustin Martin, 69 per cent of centre bounces
Shane Edwards, 66 per cent
Shai Bolton, 59 per cent
Marlion Pickett, 53 per cent (some in his role as a second ruck)
Jack Graham, 41 per cent
Riley Collier-Dawkins, 28 per cent
Expect Graham and third-gamer Collier-Dawkins to spend greater time in the middle, but there are still two significant holes which need to be filled.

Both sides with lengthy injury lists:
---------------------------
GWS forward Jesse Hogan is expected to return this week to take on reigning premier Richmond on Saturday. Hogan now looms as the most likely replacement for Jeremy Finlayson.
Matt Buntine has recovered from concussion he sustained in the 67-point win over the Crows in round seven and may be called on in part due to his past experience playing on Richmond forward Jack Riewoldt.
Jake Riccardi is another tall defensive option for the Giants, though he had mostly been used as a forward until gathering 40 disposals and 19 marks in the VFL a couple of weeks ago.
The Giants will again have a decision to make on which ruckman to select, which seems especially crucial after Geelong exposed Richmond's ruck set-up last week and its use of Marlion Pickett as the main support for Toby Nankervis.
Veteran ruckman Shane Mumford has played in the past two matches and the team has a 4-0 win-loss record when he's featured this season. But Cameron has been open all season that the 34-year-old can only play two or three games in succession before needing a break.
"Mummy will train, it depends how much he trains. It's not just about this week, it's the week after and the week after that," Cameron said.

It's a big week for: Tigers
Ash Browne
SEN
13 May 2021
The Tigers are teetering at 4-4 and the last thing they needed was for one of their few remaining stayers, Shai Bolton, to get himself into trouble at a nightclub and break his wrist. He is becoming a magical player and he’ll be sorely missed.
The Tigers aren’t a club that jumps out of the gate every season. Often it is not until July that they start to flex their considerable muscle while their opponents start to flounder. But they are showing every sign of a club that might not have the wherewithal – mentally and physically – to climb the mountain once again.
The Giants have won four of their last five games, but apart from a comeback win over Sydney, their scalps have been among the bottom-feeders of the AFL so far in 2021, Collingwood, Adelaide and Essendon. Richmond at Marvel Stadium on Saturday night represents a significant increase in class, as injury-hit as the Tigers are. A win here would be the club’s best for the season and perhaps put them ahead of the chasing pack if any of the teams in the eight take a tumble.

Young ruck Kieren Briggs will be making his debut for the Giants.
Does that mean Mumford won't play or are they planning to play two rucks against us?
https://thewest.com.au/sport/afl/homegrown-giant-briggs-to-make-afl-debut-c-2832278

I'll be fuming if they go with 2 rucks and CCJ doesn't come in Pickett last week in ruck was a poor decision.

Foxsports preview: Round 9
RICHMOND v GWS GIANTS (Anthony Miles Cup)
Tigers’ burning question: Are teams starting to open them up on counter-attack?
The warning signs were there in Round 1 — and Geelong exposed them in Round 8. As pointed out on Fox Footy’s On The Couch, Carlton scored 35 points from scoring chains starting in their defensive 50 against Richmond in Round 1. Last weekend, Geelong scored 49 points from that source. Overall, the Tigers are the second-worst team in the competition at defending ball movement from end-to-end — a stat, according to Jonathan Brown, suggesting “that’s not a premiership team”. The Tigers have relied so heavily on their system, but when five of your best six midfielders are missing due to injury, the soldier-out-soldier-in success rate is hard to maintain.
Giants’ burning question: Are they getting the Tigers at a good time?
Yep. In fact there mightn’t have been a better time in the past four years to play the Tigers. No Bolton, Cotchin, Edwards, Lambert or Prestia — that’s essentially five of Richmond’s top six midfielders unavailable due to injury. There’s also the fact Richmond has lost two of its past three games, in which its lost the clearance count on all three occasions. Then you have to consider the Giants’ recent form. They’ve won four of their past five games off the back of strong contested possession numbers and much-improved form from Tim Taranto, Jacob Hopper, Josh Kelly and Harry Perryman. Boilover alert.
Fox Footy experts’ verdict: Richmond 12 — GWS Giants 3

In this day and age with press conferences you would think they could work out a way we could hear the journos's questions?
-
We've got Deboy umpiring our game :help.
FIELD UMPIRES
2 - Nick Foot
16 - Brendan Hosking
11 - Curtis Deboy
https://aflua.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2021-AFL-Season-Umpire-Appointments-Round-9-Short-Version.pdf
-
AFL rules tomorrow according to Deboy
Slight touch in the contest on a Giants player = free kick GWS.
Tiger player and especially Dusty held and scragged = play on.
Giants player out-manoeuvred with good body work = free kick GWS.
Richmond player coat-hangered = play on.
Tiger player takes possession and is instantly tackled with no chance to dispose of the ball = free kick GWS.
Giants player tackled and spun around 720 degrees after having plenty of time to dispose of the ball = play on.
ps. Pay ten 50m penalties and another ten deliberates against Richmond for the hell of it.
::)

What's the go with reserved seat members for tonight?
Have I missed a memo about how I can attend? No tickets in my app and I thought things were basically back to normal

Have I missed a memo about how I can attend? No tickets in my app and I thought things were basically back to normal
Things back to normal for MCG games not Comic Book Stadium
Club sent an email last week advising members they had to redeem a ticket via ticketmaster.
Members had first access at 1.00pm on Tuesday (what a shambles it was for Club XIII members >:(, another story for another day)
Then everyone else on Wednesday
There will still be seats available. Go on line now and you can get a seat
-
Have to pay?
-
Have to pay?
No, enter your barcode = free seat
-
Have to pay?
No, enter your barcode = free seat
Yep. Then select 'general reserve' which is free.
-
Thanks guy, got some L1 section 17 tickets.
Don't think I got the email which is odd as I've had all the previous round ones.
-
Get back to basics what we're known for our brand the pressure and harassment and we need no passengers 4qtr effort.
-
All about the midfield tonight which is our weak spot with our injuries. Our bookends are stronger if we can bring the pressure & nullify their mids.
-
Straight off the bat, Lynch is coathangered and it's play on
-
Signs are not good early. Kicking to a bloke with his back to the ball, missing handballs....
-
Sloppy and flat so far
-
Going to get HAMMERED
-
We are horrible at the moment
-
Ballwatching :banghead
-
Dumb footy at D50 stoppages :banghead.
-
Forward 50 entries equals goals for them
-
So we picked Balta as a second Rick / forward... could have picked Coleman Jones for that role and played Balta as an on-baller?
-
Feel bad for Nank. Has to do it all. Ruck, kick goals, drop back in the hole to intercept.
Looks like we're about to get beaten if we don't smarten up. Lucky we aren't down by a bit more.
-
What a load of rubbish that qtr was. Made it easy for the Giants with our ballwatching :banghead.
Rich 3.0-18
gws 4.3-27
-
Smacking coming our way
-
Witches hats in the midfield.
-
Jesse Hogan has done in four minutes what we have done in 40
-
Schoolboy stuff. Like a training drill for them. Soft and pathetic!
-
Going to be messy. Just lacking experience in the middle.
Hmm. Caddy might have been handy today
-
Who’s on Hogan?
-
Pickett needs to lift. Turns it over or fumbles frequently
-
Who’s on Hogan?
Cleve Hughes would kick a bag against us with this midfield matchup
-
Lynch has a problem getting low on the ground to pick up the ball
-
Geez these umps are brutal!
-
Cmon Dusty :clapping
-
F@ck me, can the umps pay incorrect disposal just one bloody time!
-
Mark the damn thing Lynch :banghead
-
Tough to mark it when you’ve got a defender tacking you in every marking contest.
-
:bowYES
-
Cant stand umpire #11
-
Does Hogan have a man? He was 50m by himself!
-
Ump 11 is dopey Deboy, Julz
-
I can't watch this. Embarrassing.
-
I really dislike it when we're hopeless.
There having a go simply not good enough.
-
Handgrenade handballs :banghead
-
Why do we refuse to kick the footy. Did it last week, doing it again.
-
Spread is all sideways and rear, which cuts all the momentum. And the switch kicks are taking the wrong option, repeatedly ignoring the more aggressively placed player. Fortunately Nank is rucking and roving.
-
Lynch, Riewoldt & Rioli only 3 disposals?
-
Playing like U10s. Nank & Dusty the only ones at AFL standard.
Rich 6.2-38
gws 9.5-59
-
We are having a dip. Just hugely undermanned in the midfield.
-
Gee you have to wonder if the cliff is looming.
Jack looks so slow and can't get near it. Lynch being manhandled but not doing much either. Heck they even put Balta at full forward.
Dynasty looks quite over to me. Hope they prove me wrong
-

The cliff is coming at some point. Too early to tell if it’s happening now.
Most teams would struggle with 5/6 of their starting midfield out.
-
Cmon jack if your not gonna mark it atleast don’t lose the contest so convincingly. Copping goals on the rebound when we lose possession kicking it to him.
-

This is exactly what we have not been doing for the last 4 years. Forward handballs, Tap on's, aggressive kicks though or over the midfield have been our method of play but not atm. Maybe is the young mids or maybe is the others don't feel comfortable or confident playing like that with this midfield. Think it might be a long few weeks until we get our mids back.
-
We don’t have necks or heads! There were 2 frees to Baker in 1 tackle.
-
Astbury :banghead

And the cupboard is very bare :help
-
Tom Lynch hang your head in shame.
-
Are these umpires inventing stuff or what? You can’t shepherd ?
-
Was that not a legitimate shepherd?
-
Tom Lynch hang your head in shame.
Called that in advance.
Very Richo thing to do
-
Are these umpires inventing stuff or what? You can’t shepherd ?
Ducked, holding the ball.
Ducked, hol.... wait, you don't play for Richmond, ball it up.
-
At what point does Hardwick realise we need to play a second ruckman rather than trying to invent players playing new roles.
-
Tom Lynch hang your head in shame.
Called that in advance.
Very Richo thing to do
Couldn't miss at gold coast
-
Has Rioli done anything tonight?
-
CMON BOYS!!!!!
-
Hogan milked that :thumbsdown
-
Well done lads, big lift in pressure and they went to water.
-
Can't believe we're only 3 pts down :gobstop
Rich 10.5-65
gws 10.8-68
-
Aarts injured?
-
Need that pressure and intensity and lock them up and keep it simple.
-
Well that piece of very ordinary defending is a momentum killer
-
Gee we've started quarters poorly
-
School boy errors again really bad in 2021
-
Aarts hates giving a handball to someone in space.
-
No urgency...
-
Are our defenders awake :banghead
-
We look spent
-
Houli have a spell mate
-
Houli is out there watching butterflies.
-
Seriously, RFC supporters should boycott games until we get an explanation of the umpiring disparity.
It's 18-10. We were 8-6 up at one stage.
-
Close it out boys!
-
Ear a dick Healy your GWS barracking prick!
-
Fmd. How good was that
-
Wow.
-
Liam Baker is the most underrated player going around
Superstar
He willed us over the line
-
How good was he, absolutely everywhere!

Star. That is all
-
You bloody beauty!
Massively important win.
-
Gez the kids stood tall to RCD, Hugo, and Naish to.
-
What a win.
Some of those senior players need a kick up the rear. Kids were amazing. Baker and Nank BOG. Martin next for hitting the scoreboard.
But lots of honourable mentions to youngsters. RCD, Naish were brilliant.
-
Naish was solid tonight, just doesn’t look like he believes he is good enough.
-
RCD might make it
-
No idea how we pulled that off with the midfield we had out there but that was a huge win!
Baker was a beast. Dusty will make a great permanent forward in his twilight years.
-
On the train heading home and still amazed we won that. My voice is gonski.
-
Naish was solid tonight, just doesn’t look like he believes he is good enough.
Good call. Looked like be belonged tonight. That mark was a ripper. Was surprised that he only had 15 touches, felt like I saw more of him than that. Lots of M gained I'm sure.

AFL Report Card: Round 9
Matt Balmer, Ben Waterworth, David Zita and Max Laughton
Foxsports
17 May 2021
RICHMOND
Dusty, Dusty, Dusty. The Tigers superstar was the best player on the ground with Dustin Martin lifting at crucial points throughout the game. When the Tigers needed a spark, Martin was there to bob up and boot a goal, helping Richmond to victory. Liam Baker played one of his best games in the yellow and black, while youngster Riley Collier-Dawkins had some exciting moments.
IN THE VOTES
Martin will have been one of the first names talked about by the umpires after his four goal haul and he’s sure to be topical, given he played a big role in the goal umpire dislocating his shoulder. His on-field work was outstanding and he stood up with a number of fellow stars missing. Baker was outstanding in his new-found role in the midfield, racking up a career-high 33 disposals, nine inside 50s and eight clearances. Jayden Short’s rebound work was also strong, while Toby Nankervis won the ruck battle for most of the night.
ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT
With a plethora of big names missing, it was no surprise to see the Tigers go down in the contested ball by 15. But it was their inability to stop Jesse Hogan that would’ve been the most disappointing for Damien Hardwick, forcing him to shuffle the magnets throughout the contest. With their full allotment of talls down back, the Richmond structure wasn’t as strong as it has been in recent times.
