Unless Cass has made a quick recovery not sure why he's named ???. It's still a strong Coburg side.
I think because the Pies are still in the finals then there's no 12/10 restriction on the number of Pies that can play in the Willy side which is unfair to Coburg. Bryan, Licuria and Rhyce Shaw are Pie emergencies.

The Burgers are better

Tony Greenberg
A potent, multi-pronged attack, and all-round versatility, shape as key factors in the Coburg Tigers’ bid to advance to the VFL grand final, when they tackle arch rival Williamstown in Sunday’s preliminary final at Port Melbourne TEAC Oval.
Coburg has goalscoring options galore, primarily through Richmond-listed players such as Jack Riewoldt, Cleve Hughes, Jay Schulz, Patrick Bowden, Andrew Krakouer and Daniel Connors.
Between them, they kicked 13 of Coburg’s 21 goals in its 70-point demolition of Port Melbourne in last Sunday’s cut-throat semi-final.
Riewoldt is the leading goalkicker for the Coburg Tigers this season, with 27 from 12 games, closely followed by Schulz, with 26 from nine games. Bowden has 21 goals from nine games, Hughes has 17 from 12 games, while Krakouer also has 17, from nine games. Connors has spent more time up forward since returning to the Coburg side following his four-match stint with Richmond in the AFL, and has looked particularly dangerous up there. He has kicked seven goals in his past three outings with Coburg.
That all adds up to problems for the Williamstown defenders, who will be hard-pressed to curb Coburg’s strike-power up forward – especially if they receive their customary healthy supply of ball from a midfield containing the likes of Al Neville, Paul Shelton, Nick Carnell, the Caruso brothers (Nat and Fortunato), Tom Simpson, Daniel Jackson, Matty White, and skipper Travis Ronaldson, who although he is the team’s No.1 ruckman, plays more like a ruck-rover.
Up the other end of the ground, Coburg’s defence, led by Jarrod Silvester, along with Richmond pair Kelvin Moore and Luke McGuane, is in fine form and totally eclipsed the Port forwards in last Sunday’s semi-final clash.
Importantly, Coburg coach Andy Collins has the advantage of being able to utilise his players’ talents in a variety of on-field roles. For example, Riewoldt, Hughes, Schulz, Bowden and Connors can all be used effectively in the back half, if required, while Moore and McGuane are quite capable of making the successful transition from defence into attack. Jackson and White can play on-ball (attacking or lockdown roles), forward or back, which certainly adds to their overall value to the team.
The last time these two teams met, in late July, it was Coburg by 66 points – 15.14 (104) to 5.8 (38), with Kent Kingsley kicking five goals, Jack Riewoldt four goals and the likes of Krakouer, Ronaldson and Silvester major contributors.
Of course, the stakes are a lot higher this time round, and the Collingwood-aligned Williamstown combination will be a formidable foe.
But the Burgers are hungry and primed for a shot at their first flag since 1989.
And, you can back it in that Richmond faithful will be right behind them in their quest for the ultimate glory . . .

Geelong's Charlie Gardiner has been reported in their runaway win over North Ballarat today.
andy's off to Adelaide to coach apparently. :banghead
Read on BF that this was announced on ABC :(
What about his cricketing role?
Some Adelaide fan on BF said he's probably off to West Adelaide.
-
Yep.
My sources have confirmed that he has signed to coach West Adelaide.
-
Yep.
My sources have confirmed that he has signed to coach West Adelaide.
Bugger :(
So does that mean we will need to find two more development coaches. One to coach Coburg plus the extra one we were planning to employee anyway along with Craig McRae?
-
Very disappointing to hear Collins is going, he's done an amazing job and it's vital we find a good replacement.

Williamstown v Coburg Tigers preview
VFL Record
Coburg favoured to win through to 2007 decider.
The Coburg Tigers can keep alive their quest to win the club’s first premiership in 18 years at the expense of Williamstown in this week’s preliminary final.
There is much to like about Coburg, which thrashed Williamstown in the clubs’ only meeting back in round 14. While the Seagulls were without captain Brett Johnson and Paul Licuria, their best player in the qualifying final win against Sandringham, they still need to turn around an 11-goal defeat.
Coburg has retained nine Richmond players from that match – Jack Riewoldt, Andrew Krakouer, Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls, Cleve Hughes, Matt White, Travis Casserly, Luke McGuane, Kelvin Moore and Patrick Bowden. Kent Kingsley, who kicked five goals in that game, ruckman Angus Graham and Danny Meyer will be missing from the Tigers’ team, but this is more than offset by the addition of Daniel Jackson, Jay Schulz and Daniel Connors. Jackson was simply outstanding against Port Melbourne, nullifying the impact of dual Liston Trophy winner David Robbins as well as making an important contribution himself.
This weekend, Coburg coach Andy Collins is likely to assign Jackson the important role of restricting Licuria’s input, should the Collingwood veteran take the field.
The Seagulls must limit Andrew Krakouer, who not only can kick bags of goals, but also set many others up. Quelling his influence may be a job for Brodie Holland or Sam Iles, who was a fine player against Sandringham.
However, the Tigers’ forward structure goes much deeper than Schulz and Krakouer. Riewoldt, Hughes and Connors are all marking targets who can punish
opposition teams.
Much of Williamstown’s fortunes will depend on how Shannon Cox, Nathan Brown, Ryan Cook and Ryan Lonie perform.
Williamstown’s strength is clearly its midfield. Skipper Johnson is backed by Ben Davies, a star against Sandringham, and, of course, Licuria. Davies has a big motor, runs and carries the ball and fi nishes well, and it will be interesting to see who Collins selects to play on him. Holland, meanwhile, is a proven big-game player. He knows where to run, how to gain possession and use the ball
to advantage, and is very good at stifling an opponent.
Coburg will rely on Alister Neville, Fortunato Caruso, Matt White and Paul Shelton, all very good last week, to outpoint Williamstown’s midfield.
Seagull forward Andrew Williams showed his wealth of experience against Sandringham with his strong leading, marking and accurate kicking. Williams headlines an attack that at times this season has been non-existent, and
Williamstown needs the likes of Liam Picken, Patrick Rose and Ben Reid to continue to play well.
Another pivotal dual is the ruck contest between Coburg Tigers captain Travis Ronaldson, coming off a career-best year, and Williamstown’s Scott Meyer.
Williamstown will unquestionably improve on its round 14 loss, but
this may be not enough to stop the Coburg Tigers.

Collingwood has dumped Willy as its VFL affiliate and will go it alone next year. The Doggies will team up with Willy instead. The Blues have stayed with the Bullants after the Bullants agreed to play half their home games at Princes Park next year.

Goals: Connors, Krak

Coburg's skill level has be poor especially the last kick inside 50 and then when we did have a shot we missed getable chances.
Moore probably the best RFC player.
Cleve needs to play in front. But the delivery has been crap.
Thought Whitey was good off HB. Used his pace well.
Paddy has got a fair bit of it out wide.
Silvester is struggling on Reid.
Gotch telling the Willy huddle and not falling twice for Connors' dummies ;D.

It'd be nice if we got a free ::) but we probably don't deserve it the way we are playing. Not switched on at all.

A Willy player takes a step forward after a mark and it's not play on but Neville does the same thing and it's play on ::)
How can it be holding the ball when you get the handball away ???

Coburg lucky to be only 3 goals down as we've been totally outplayed and smashed when the ball split off a marking contest and hit the ground.
Hard to find too many good Coburg players.
Moore still the best RFC player IMO. At least he's clean in what he did.
Krak stood up late in that quarter to turn the tide up forward although he could have had 3 goals if he had kicked straight.
Sarge has tried hard despite poor delivery.
Paddy doing okay as second ruck.
Jacko has hardly touched it. Licuria has kept him quiet and Jacko's spent most of his time wrestling with Licuria.
Jack playing in defence that quarter but wasn't noticed.
Cleve has been quiet as well.
McGuane and Whitey have been okay.
JON is trying but his awareness is poor. Seems Willy are going forward through whoever he's on.

Is the wind blowing stronger to one end that quarter? looking at the first half scores we had plenty of scoring shots in the 2nd q so hopefully it is just us playing better and not the wind strengthening..

It is blowing to one end HB but it was Coburg who were hungrier too that quarter. I wouldn't say you can't kick goals to the other end.

3. Silvester 2. Ronaldson 1. Riewoldt
3XX saying Wallace has a big smile on his face.
15.8 to 2.7 after half-time :o
A team effort again. Coburg and Richmond boys all played well after half-time when the skill level improved. Neville was ABC's B.O.G. Fort Caruso and Ronaldson were the spark after half-time.
Jack kicked his 4 goals per game again. Just all class and footy brains for a 18 year old.
Krak was great. Not only kicking 3 goals but he was instrumental in Coburg's forward line pressure. All the forwards can hold their head up in that regard. Willy's run out of defence completely dried up after half-time.
Schulz - Very good. 2 goals doesn't sound much but he put in for 4 quarters as far as doing the 1%ers.
Paddy is okay apparently for next week after going off. Apart from a couple of times when he could have gone harder at the ball up forward he had a good solid game.
McGuane and Moore cleaned up across the backline.
Matty White was very good off half-back. Made one turnover but apart from that he used his pace to advantage, tackled well and his disposal was clean.
Connors didn't do much today apart from those two ripper goals.
JON and Jacko will probably get a tick for holding their respective opponent quiet although both didn't see much of the ball.
Cleve was disappointing. He just never got into the game.
-
Cleve was disappointing. He just never got into the game.
cleve never found the rythmn of the game. would have had 5 touches of the ball max IMO

Tigers crush Williamstown
Chris Walker | September 17, 2007
THE Coburg Tigers will play off in the VFL grand final after pummelling the Williamstown Seagulls by 61 points at a windy TEAC Oval yesterday.
Several Collingwood players, fresh from Friday night's extra-time victory over West Coast, turned out to watch the Seagulls and support teammates including Rhyce Shaw, Brodie Holland and Simon Prestigiacomo, who are all vying for places in the Magpies side that will play Geelong in the preliminary final on Friday night.
It will be the last time the likes of Nathan Buckley, Alan Didak and Heath Shaw gather to watch a Seagulls game, with Collingwood set to break its alignment with its VFL affiliate. Unfortunately, their presence did little for the Seagulls, who were mercilessly steamrolled in the second half.
The Tigers were flat-footed for most of the first half, though Andrew Krakouer managed to minimise the scoreboard damage with two goals. Jay Shultz kicked truly after the half-time siren to bring the deficit to a manageable 18 points.
It was the Tigers' Italian brigade, small forwards Fortunato Caruso and Joe Gazzo, who provided the spark for the second-half surge. Skipper Travis Ronaldson kicked the first goal and was followed soon after by Jack Riewoldt. Caruso then crumbed a pack and soccered through a clever goal to give the Tigers their first lead of the day.
Coburg booted another four goals to register its best third quarter of the season with 7.3 and pull out to a 24-point lead.
In the final term, Coburg's star players took over and the Tigers booted eight goals to the Seagulls' two. Alistair Neville had 25 possessions and one goal, Riewoldt finished with four goals.
Coburg piled on another eight goals in the final quarter to run out easy winners and to move into a meeting with Geelong in next week's grand final at Princes Park. Coburg has been beaten convincingly by the Cats twice this season.
Daniel Jackson and Ronaldson were outstanding as was observed by Richmond coach Terry Wallace, who joined his second-tier team in the rooms to sing the team song.
"Coburg has been a real positive for us," Wallace said. "We have copped some criticism this year but we have always maintained that we have a direction and we are all about developing players.
"People say 'who cares about the second-tier competition' but I keep saying 'that's where Geelong has come from, since 1999 they've been developing their own'. The alliance has worked really well for us, the VFL blokes always do their job and our blokes have also chimed in."
Coburg coach Andy Collins, who may be in his last year at the club with potential assistant roles on offer from the AFL, is ecstatic about the opportunity next week presents.
"We have to finish the job next week. There is no use getting into these things if you don't think you are a real chance. We were very disappointing in the first half today and we spoke pretty sternly to the boys at half-time and our good players stood up. Now they have to stand up next week."
Riewoldt was also champing at the bit. "These blokes are some of the best blokes I have ever played footy with and I can't wait for next week."

Coburg storms into grand final
17 September 2007 Herald Sun
Geoff Poulter
COBURG Tigers earned themselves a shot at hot flag favourite Geelong in Sunday's grand final after demolishing Williamstown at Port Melbourne yesterday.
The Burgers, with an inspired second half, crushed Willy in the preliminary final by 61 points - 20.17 (137) to 11.10 (76).
Coburg kicked 7.3 to 0.3 in a match-turning third quarter after trailing by 18 points at halftime.
After conceding the first goal of the final term, the Tigers then scored eight of the last nine, despite kicking into the breeze, to finish all over a tiring Willy.
The Seagulls, lively and productive in the first half, fell apart under relentless Coburg pressure, tackling and chasing.
They had only one marking target in attack, lanky left-footer Ben Reid, whose influence was eventually curbed by a solid Tigers' defence led by Luke McGuane and Kelvin Moore.
Rhyce Shaw and Ben Davies opened brightly, key defender Simon Prestigiacomo was steady and Brett Johnson and Paul Licuria had bright patches, but the Seagulls were not direct.
Just as in the old-time newspaper reports, it would be fitting to put "all played well" alongside Coburg.
The Tigers were remarkably even with 10-12 players all contenders for the best players' column.
Alister Neville and Travis Ronaldson produced their usual consistent output and young players from AFL affiliate Richmond such as Matt White, Jack Riewoldt and Daniel Jackson, are likely types. The dangerous Andrew Krakouer kicked 3.4 but missed about three shots he would usually have converted.
Geelong handled the Coburg challenge in the qualifying final to win by 31 points. But the Tigers showed enough signs that day to suggest they would be competitive if they reached the Princes Park grand final. The Tigers have improved since - but then so have the Cats.
Coburg coach Andrew Collins said the team had exceeded all expectations.
"But we are here now and we are going to make sure we are going to do well," Collins said. "(In the first half) we felt we were playing pretty well but we had gone away from a few of our basics.
"We spoke to them fairly sternly and after halftime they responded in a really good way. We have one more task and we are looking forward to playing in it.
"They have beaten us convincingly both times, they are a very strong side and they will have a very strong AFL contingent. But these are what great movies are made from, aren't they?"
Riewoldt, 18, a first-year star recruit from Tasmania, kicked four second half goals.
"Coburg hasn't been in a grand final since 1989 (a win). It is a great honour to represent the club," Riewoldt said. "I got lucky with a few (goals). I've played eight AFL games, it has been a really successful year at Coburg and we have capped it off with a grand final berth."

I thought that the Coburg-list boys contributed more than the RFC-list boys.

I thought that the Coburg-list boys contributed more than the RFC-list boys.
GB,
Not a bad view, but I thought, strongly, that most of the RFC boys played their team roles very, very well. Especially Kel, Matty, Luke, DJ, Krak, P-Bo and Jack. This created the space and time for the Caruso's, Gazzo (impressive till he strained his calf/hammy) etc. Liked Carnell's game as well.
-
simpson is a tough nut, I like him. Logan Hill might be the one to go, seems a bit of an inconspicuous player

Coburg kicked an amazing fifteen goals to Williamstowns two in the second half on Sunday to place themselves into their first Grand Final since 1989.
The Seagulls looked the slightly better side during the first half, but after the main break Coburg came out firing!
The Burger seniors now join the reserves in playing off for the premiership on Sunday.
Williamstown were slight favourites going into Sundays match, as they had the previous week off and had the services of Collingwood players such as Broadie Holland, Paul Licuria and Rhyce Shaw. There was a mild breeze blowing across the ground that also slightly favoured the end Coburg kicked to in the first term.
A strong crowd of 3,900 saw ex Eagle player Andrew Williams kick the first major of the day, followed by another to the Seagulls to give them an early lead midway through the first quarter.
Daniel Connors then replied with one of the goals of the season as he ran around two Willy players, had a couple of bounces and drilled it from 40m on a tightish angle. It lifted the Burger boys, as a minute later Shultz passed to Krakouer and he converted to level the scores.
At quarter time an inaccurate Coburg side lead in almost every department, apart from on the scoreboard. The Burgers had six more inside 50’s, but trailed on the scoreboard by eight points at the first change.
Al Neville was everywhere in the first term collecting 10 touches for the quarter, while Andrew Horne provided great run out of defence.
¼ Time: Coburg 2.5 (17) Williamstown 4.1 (25)
Williamstown looked the goods during the second quarter. They kicked four of the first five goals of the term to stretch their lead out to 24 points.
Ordinary field and goal kicking by the Coburg players contributed to the Seagulls success during the quarter, while the Williamstown players also kicked accurately and were much cleaner with their disposals.
After missing two kickable goals in the space of a few minutes, Andrew Krakouer kicked accurately the third time to boot his second for the game. Jay Schultz then slotted a goal after the siren from 50m that really lifted the Burger spirits and gave them confidence and spark going into halftime.
Kelvin Moore was continuing on from last weeks excellent form, and was again was very solid in the backline, while Natale Caruso and Captain Travis Ronaldson were combining well in the ruck.
½ Time: Coburg 5.9 (39) Williamstown 9.3 (57)
Travis Ronaldson kicked the perfect captains goal after only a minute in the third term, and importantly kept the momentum with the Burgers. Jack Riewoldt then dribbled a freak goal from the boundary and Fort Caruso snagged another only a minute later, to level the scores. Fort’s third quarter was one of the best individual quarters for the year, as he provided the spark and determination that was missing form the Burgers in the first half.
Nick Carnell slotted nicely into the half forward line and kicked two goals for the term, followed by majors to Jo Gazzo and another to Riewoldt.
The Burgers turned a three goal deficit into a four goal lead at the last change, as they slotted 7 goals for the term and kept the Seagulls goalless.
Fort Caruso, Nick Carnell and Jo Gazzo were the major sparks in the turnaround, along with Trav in the ruck and Matt White in the back pocket, but overall it was a great team performance.
¾ Time: Coburg 12.12 (84) Williamstown 9.6 (60)
A poor kicking error gave Williamstown an easy goal at the beginning of the final quarter, and it could have switched the momentum. The Seagulls continued to have possession for the first 5-6 minutes of the last term, but couldn’t convert it into any more goals.
Schultz and Connors then kicked goals within the space of thirty seconds to really shut out any hope of a Seagull comeback. It was then party time for the Burgers, as they kicked eight consecutive goals during the final term. Al Neville capped of a fantastic game, with a running goal, while Riewoldt added a couple more for the quarter to finish with four for the match. Andrew Krakouer, Nat Caruso and Andrew Horne all added goals to their great days work, and celebrated in style.
Daniel Jackson played a fantastic tough game off the wing, as the big man pushed back to take marks and give the backline a chop out, while also providing the forwards with first class delivery. Paul Shelton’s work rate was second to none, as he won many hardball gets and clearances in and under the packs.
Matt White, Jarrod Sylvester and Kelvin Moore held the backline up extremely well in the second half, conceding only two goals, while Al Neville continued on a fantastic year and received the ABC’s man of the match award collecting 25 touches.
The Burgers now face Geelong on Sunday in the Grand Final starting at 2.15pm at MC Labour Park. The game will be televised live on the ABC.
After having a week off the reserves play Port Melbourne starting at 11.00am.
The last time both the Reserves and Seniors won Grand Finals in the same year was 1974. Let’s hope history can be re-written and both teams bring home the flags!!!!!!!!

Wouold not want to give the Geelong side that much of a start !
Go Burgers !!

yeah rawlings said pulling him out was precautionary and should be right to go this week, but who to drop?
Who to drop? It'd be out of Hill and Simpson, I'd say.
I thought that the Coburg-list boys contributed more than the RFC-list boys.
Hill and Simpson were in the bests against Port Melbourne the week before so stiff for either of them to miss out IMO. Cass is a rebounding defender so that's the position that needs to be freed up if he is to come back into the Coburg side. On form during the final series I know who I would drop but he won't be.
I think Harts will be playing in the Ressies GF btw. Not sure about Peterson.

Hill & Simpson deserve their places
Would think perhaps Horne in a straight swap for Casserley
Agree MT think Hartigan will play in the Ressies GF

All RFC boys got a tick from Craig McRae apart from Cleve.

Damn right, at least McRae is giving JoN a decent chance and see he's trying to make something of himself offensively instead of simply not trying like Clever.
