Sorry to jump the gun! I was watching the hawks-demons game and i think the hawks may well be without Cyrol Rioli for next week! An elbow into the guts of Nathan Jones should see him miss a couple!
-
can beat the dawks next week if they dish up the crap they are dishing up at the moment, very predictable
-
agree
-
agree
The crap has been turned around, now melbourne are dishing it up!
-
Ok, what about White on Rioli.... :thumbsup
-
Think we spoke to soon here, fellas. If Hawthorn play like they have in the third quater they will be very hard to contain. Especially considering our defensive personal limitations.
still think we can take it right up to them. We just need to hold them up when they have momentum, as they can score very quickly.
-
I was listening to that stuffwit Tony Shaw on 3aw on the long drive back from pennant golf today. Geez that guy has nfi - hilarious to listen too. Would have loved to hear him backtracking after the 3rd quarter demolition job by the hawks. He is R.Walls markII ie NFI and a chameleon commentator that changes his tune without an iota of embarrasment. :chuck
-
Hodge might be in strife too ;D
-
Have to admit the Hawks had a very impressive second half.
-
melbourne were a rabble after half time
-
Hawthorn just lifted their efficiency bc they were smacking the dees at the contest and every indicator in the first half but were just woefully inefficient. Once they clicked the dees never stood a chance - lucky it wasnt a 15 goal margin....
Who would you play Lids on next week? HB to help out our undermanned KPD's who will have their hands full with buddy and roughie? Or make him stand Hodge wherever hodgey lines up?
I wouldnt mind seeing him standing buddy when buddy plays High HF, can go with him and run off him when we get the ball. As soon as buddy goes deep, swap Thursty onto him. Would make for fascinating viewing and a chance to put another feather in Lid's cap.

excellent post Tony. :thumbsup
I've always thought exactly this. Rob Walls & Tony Shaw flip flopping from one week to the next seemingly oblivious of what they just had said.. It's so annoying it's hilarious. I find it difficult to listen to 3aw's call for this exact reason.

The Hawks take on Richmond this week, with Gibson more than cautious after the Tigers impressed in their first two games against Carlton and St Kilda.
"I watched a fair bit of their game against Carlton. I thought they were really good and then they backed up against St Kilda on the weekend. There is no way they can be taken lightly," he said.
"They have got some younger guys who have really stepped up and then some of their older guys like Deledio who was great on the weekend and they've got great ball users like Cotchin in the midfield. If you take them lightly you will definitely get hit between the eyes."

2 weeks suspension 1 with an early plea.
-
Ok, so I have said this before the start of most games however over the years it has, IMO, been one of our downfalls that we must rectify if we are going to win games, in particular this game.
We simply must get a few goals on the board early, we can't afford to let the Hawks skip to a 3-4 avantage in the first 15 minutes. Playing catch up football is all we seem to do and when the game is on the line we are too spent to get accross the line.
If we let the Hawks get out to a decent lead and they start to kick accurately we will get smashed. In all honesty we really should have been hammered against the Blues and the Saints, their bad kicking actually kept us in the game. The Hawks kicking was no better last weekend, but if they get it together.......
This is a real challenge for us, I think it will show us where we are at, Melbourne just had a reality check, I hope we don't get one out of this game.
I hate playing the Hawks..
-
In all honesty we really should have been hammered against ... the Saints, their bad kicking actually kept us in the game.
Incorrect WAT. Our inexperience in finishing cost us a win by a reasonable margin. We were a much better side than St Kilda for 3 out of 4 quarters on Friday and the scoreboard did not reflect the reality of the game at all. You could say their inaccurate kicking might have cost them the result but no more than our inexperience cost us and as an excuse has no more validity than ours - less actually.
-
Cyril Rioli suspended. After the way Betts and Milne have performed against us the last 2 weeks, this is a huge boost for us.
-

Just my perception smokey, maybe incorrect, maybe not. Perhaps we shouldn't have been slaughtered by the Saints then but the Blues....really they should have pounded us.

Agree with the Blues WAT, we were fortunate to finish so close I thought. :thumbsup
-
Bad kicking is bad footy.
-
My main point was, we really have to get out of the boxes better than we have been and maintain the momento throughout the game. We can't expect to win games playing catchup for 3.5 qtrs..
-
We match up well with Hawthorn I think it will be tight......
-
The AFL site is tipping the Hawks by 4 goals....
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
ODDS:
Richmond - $3.85
Hawthorn - $1.32
QUESTION MARKS
The Tigers, much to everyone's surprise, actually looked a more dangerous outfit without their primary goal-kicker and last year's Coleman medalist. With Riewoldt likely to play this week, will they resist temptation to go back to Jack as the main target and maintain a level of unpredictability?
With Kel Moore injured and Luke McGuane and Alex Rance suspended, the Tigers will have a less experienced backline than usual. Can players like Dylan Grimes and David Gourdis stand up to the likes of Lance Franklin and Jarryd Roughead?
Which Hawks will we get on the weekend? The first half duds that rolled over to the Demons or the second half stars that rocketed home to a 45-point win?
PREDICTION
Hawthorn by 23 points.

MCG site says they are expecting a crowd of 48,000.

Both members can get into the game as well as this is one of Hawthorn's replacement games for playing in Tassie:

True true but I would say that Carlton were luckier to win than we were lucky not to get pounded. We absolutely had them on toast - even in the last qtr we made some silly mistakes to let them back in. 12 months on, we win.
-
Lids has had plenty of days out against the Hawks in recent times.
R8, 2010 - 35 disposals
R21, 2009 - 36 disposals
R20, 2008 - 29 disposals
R6, 2008 - 30 disposals

This is really becoming a massive game for mine, we simply must win this to prove to the football world that the past two weeks have not just been a result of playing underdone teams or teams that couldn't kick straight.
The players have to show that they mean business, they simply can't capitulate to the Hawks and get smashed. We are in a good position to move up the ladder and get some faith and confidence in our playing group.
A win is a must, a flogging would be a backward step.
-
Looking at Lid's history against the hawks and the way Hodge spoke about him in last weeks telecast - they really respect him so will obviously put a huge amount of work into him with a defensive fwd. Time to throw him around a bit and keep them on their toes. Send him to Hodge even if it means he plays HF/mid.
If it rains I reckon we can beat them - much quicker
-
You'd expect Lids to be heavily tagged on Saturday night. I wonder if Dimma will have Lids go head-to-head with Sam Mitchell who like Goddard has cut us up in the midfield in the past.
Did anyone hear Nathan Thompson on SEN last night? He said we didn't have the speed to trouble Hawthorn unlike other sides who have ???. Of all our deficiencies leg speed isn't one of them I would've thought.
-

Not exactly Hawthorn's strength either

No, i think he's right - Lids probably will be tagged :P

Hardwick hunts for Hawks
8/4/2011 1:15 PM
Luke Buttigieg
Sportal
...
Hardwick believes his players can challenge the Hawks much like they did when they only lost to them by three points in Round 8 last year.
"It's another great challenge, we're playing another quality side in Hawthorn," he added ahead of training at Punt Road on Friday.
"We matched up pretty well against them last year so I think it will be a really tight contest and a great challenge for our young blokes."
"There's probably certain sides that you match up reasonably well against and we feel that we do against these guys."
"We've just got to subdue their midfield (and) control the twin towers up front."
"We think we're a dead-set chance this week which is a good result."

Great, now the players need to carry this positivity into the game..
-
I hope we play tough, hard footy with fight & fight to win resonating with every kick, mark, hardball get, etc.
This game last year was the beginning of our run of wins.
I hope we can continue to show the hardness, hunger and ruthlessness
of tigers of old.
Cmon tigers let's beat this gay, brown & gold, weepoo, worst song, worst colors, homosexual team and show the world we are on the way back as the powerhouse of the AFL.

They are all bell ends.
-
I would rather play them at full strength, but anyway if Mitchell is out so be it we have our backline out. Edwards one step away from Coburg.
-
Bloody hell, now again we have to play catch up, why the hell are we so slow to start games????
18 Hawks
0 Tigers
Pathetic..
-
Now we have let them get out to a 5 goal to 1 lead we can go goal for goal for the rest of the day... Honestly this is what I was speaking about earlier, we just can't afford to keep letting teams get the 3-4 goal jump on us 8-10 minutes into the first qtr...
-
Really this is the Carlton game all over again....Difference, the Hawks are kicking straight. This is about where we are at, a long way off.
-
We need to score one or two quick goals here. Otherwise it could get more uglier current score 57 - 9
-
Oh dear quarters, he's on a heap of trouble...you edging toss off
-

WA the main difference tonight is the quality of 150 the hawks are getting along with the Buddy factor. We have been completely outclassed by a top
4 side. The most disappointing aspect of tonights game (so far) is that their attack at the ball has left us looking gun shy.
-
They want it we don't. When we get it we can't pick it up. Hawks have experience & sure hands. This is going to be a real thrashing. We are really geting our pants pulled down here.
-
Was going to go tonight. Got half way to the tram stop in Bridge Rd and was saturated despite all the wet weather gear I could muster. Turned round and came home. Glad I did. It's hard enough to watch on the telly. Tigers just haven't shown up at all tonight either. Playing dumb, lazy, disinterested footy. Second to the ball all the time. Sick of this. Thirty years of this crap.
-
Some outs to happen tonite. Soft on clinging on to the good times.
No favors
-
We'll see a repeat of this next Friday! :help
Bring on some bottom 8 sides!! :pray
-
Sorry but this is just getting silly now.

only sick of it now RR? I've been sick of it for atleast 25 years now.
One year mate it will happen. Hang in there.

Burgoyne is BOG for mine. I don't think he had a player on him all night.

I called him as the underlying factor!!!!!
-
Seems to be the same every year but its another case of men against boys, body strength kills us everytime. I must admit thought that the Hawks ball handling in those conditions was on occasions freakish. Our kids seem to make an art of being in the wrong position every time there is a contested ball, not sure if its just bad luck or not following coaches orders.
-

Nah mate, I've been sick of it for a l-o-o-o-n-g, long time. When you think of what we once were in the days of my avatar, to have been reduced to THIS since 1983. It just crushes your effing heart doesn't it???
-
Just an stuffen disgraceful and dishonest (in terms of lack of effort) from our boys. They didnt want to play in the rain, they didnt want to show up and they didnt. Thats the story. Too many average players (workers) who are also prone to laziness is a big problem and not enough star quality in the side. Of the 22 of them about 20 of em should hand their money back to the club for the effort tonight. It was just stuffen disgraceful.
-
Poor effort. So poor that we made them look as though they were playing on a dry day.
We played as if we were in the slop we played in at Adelaide last season. Sliding and going to ground at almost every contest slamming the ball on the boot as soon as we got it.
We desperately need a ruckman that can influence ruck contests and occasionally favour our guys.
Time for Conca and Helbig to have a run at Coburg and bring back Nason and Webberley. I still like Batchelor in the side.
-
poor effort when you consider the number of I50's did someone remind JR it was wet weather footy, generally pretty difficult to sit back and take speccy's
-
defensively was absolutely appalling effort from our boys. Were reactive and looked like school kids out there - to allow the hawks to spear 40 metre passes inside 50 TIME AND AGAIN in these conditions is PATHETIC and to allow big key fwds to rove goals is unforgiveable. Deserve to be flogged after that effort. I'm actually pretty peeed off with that performance.
-

They showed a stat on 10, a breakdown of the I50's. We had a very high percentage of bombed in I50's, the Hawks had high spot-up percentages.

Spot on t_m, we were behind our opponent in almost every contest!
We need to work at the clearances inside D50. Roughhead was roving packs and snapping goals ffs. :banghead
-
Doesn't get any easier next week, what would a satisfactory losing margin be against the Pies? I thought Carlscum were around the right loss margin to the Pies, based on tonight's effort i think i would accept if we get within 10 goals.
-
next week going to be a 100 pt flog :lol
-
Tigermonk is back! :cheers
I'd almost take 100.

Well l was very impressed with the game tonight. Hawthorn came to play & the produced one of the best wet weather displays l reckon l have seen in football & they should be honored for the way they played. Take nothing away from our young side who at times looked out of thier league but hey dont expect so much from lads so young. The players who stood out like Kingy, Cotchin, Nahas, its was a good contest but we were simply outclassed by a determined side. They had some lucky bounces & skids & umpire calls but so what. We were never in the hunt in the 1st quarter & so set the pattern. Take nothing away from Hawthorn cause no team would have beaten them on tonights game. Anyway Kingy Rules. :thumbsup look up everyone the season is long

Very accurate summation of tonights events and view of the future.

Last week in particular we took a couple of small steps forward
Tonight :banghead :banghead we took a massive leap backwards
It was unacceptable
totally agree.
poorly coached.
why was our best player last week( Lids) repeatedly taken back to full back by his direct opponents :banghead
Jack Riewoldt playing dry weather footy in the first 5 mins, and continued to try and take high marks all night, that should of been addressed in the first 5 mins.
And am sick of players such as Conca repeatedly staying on the wrong side of play st stoppages and opening up the goals for opposition, that's what occurred in the 1st q, game over.
-
who sits in the coaches box and makes the moves from there?
Fancy leaving edwards on Buddy when he moved to the wing :banghead
-
my thoughts is that why would you have the best wet weather footballer named as and emerg and not play him.
:banghead :banghead
Shane Tuck should of played last night.
-
We were very badly coached last night and thats coming from someone who has always supported Hardwick 100%. He needs to do better although facts are we didnt come to play and were never in the contest. Jacko is 100% right as well about some player positioning. It was just a bad night overall.
-
I thought we looked really FLAT. We were second to the ball. Our disposal was poor. We were not desperate enough. We were taught a good football lesson by a very good side. Agree completely with Tigermonk. Hawthorn are a good side. Just think if Mitchell and Rioli had been playing. I thought Nahas and King were fantastic. King's attitude is fantastic. Nahas' s disposal was good. He hit leading forwards unlike other ball carriers. Cotchin tried hard. Foley did as well. My biggest concern of the night was our ruck divison. They were well and truly destroyed. Until we are competitive in the ruck we are not going to be a good side. Lade believes Graham won't develop until he is 25. I believe it may be time to try Conca in a different position. I believe it may be time to give Batchelor a rest in the seconds. I think Tuck should play next week at the expense of Edwards.
-
It's okay to get outplayed. After all they are a top 4 side but what players like lids, Connors and our captain dished up tonight were a disgrace. I love lids but he didn't care last night. Those 1 handed attempts at the ball should not be tolerated by Dimma.
Dimma is learning about this caper real fast.
Number 1. STFU already about declaring our side a "real show against the hawks"
You embarrassed our club with dumb comments like that"
Number 2. You play your best team. Why is Conca and Edwards in the team.
Honestly both provide absolutely nothing.
Helbig yes Conca no. He looks lost that kid. I know he has played 3 games but IMO I like Helbig as a prospect far more.
I've seen nothing of Comca to suggest he was worthy of pick 6.
Number 3. Martin will finish top 3 in our B & F.
He gives his all every game. Lids should watch how he goes at it when the chips are down
Nahas, King and Jackson tried hard. The rest pathetic
Put it into perspective Blues should've smashed us by a similar margin.
We played 1 good quarter against them. 2 against the saints none last night
We are a long long way off
He is our No1 small forward and should get a new contract.
-
Agree Daniel.
I have some real concerns on Conca.
Repeatedly stands on "'wrong side "" at stoppages.
Something you learn in under 16,s :banghead
-
interesting reading a report on Conca, quote, will be a "'high end "' B Grade player. mmmmmmmmmm
And we pick him up first round , pick 6. BIG RISK
-
i think it was on another forum someone posted about a comment from someone in recruiting. They said that how the very good juniors often don't develop strong defensife skills because they are the ones dominating and it needs to be installed in them when they get to AFL level
Conca is obviously being played in defence to learn these skills.
He show enough when he gets the ball to suggest he will be a good player if he makes the grade, but right now he is on a very steep learning curve indeed. Yeah, he does get caught out of position a bit, but he has a few more experienced mates.
Hopefully what we are seeing is some short term pain for some long term gain.
-
yep, 1st Round draft picks who have problems :banghead
why pick them first round ?
Seen other 1st rounders over the years smash them, not us
-
I apologise. I left out Jackson in the good players for the side. Jackson tried hard. Helbig has a good attitude. Graham's attitude was poor last night
-
Hellbig goes okay. :thumbsup
-
some of these kids need a spell, conca, helbig, astbury, take your pick, give tuck, webbers and Miller a go. we need to get the mix right with experience and youth, playing hawthorn and collingwood aint the time to feature 4 or 5 kids in the team that have played less than half dozen games, but hey i might just be a little crazy ::)
-
Where's Nason?
-
Where's Nason?
Who knows.
probably not in our best 22

Agree Al but my opinion is of Conca not the more experienced guys who let us down big time.
I listened and read over the last 3 weeks re: Conca, in that he is a jet this that. Well IMO i dont see anything that he was a good recruit at this stage.
Now the year is only 3 weeks so thats all i can judge him on. He seems slow, short for a descent midfielder these days, and lacks penetration in his kick. He doesnt seem to have the smarts either.
Right now i would say Helbig seems a far better recruit than Conca.
-
when you play in defensive 50, you stand between your player and the goal, otherwords you stand goal side.. Conca no idea

nathan brown on the footy show having a whack at Richmond set ups at stoppages,
Even a dummy like Brown can see the issues ::)

Rewoldt needs to be made a example of, Players like him are what pulls the rest of the team down

Riewoldt was still trying to take "'specys"" in the last quarter, LOL Funny boy, its not all about you Jack Riewoldt

I dont reckon they'll do anything, Jacko is a law unto himself now. Winning the Coleman was the worst thing for his career. Gotten dead set ahead of himself has Jack. Needs to be brought back down to earth.

Hardwick has already said in public, that he is going to address the issue with him that his out of control. This has been a issue for some time & not just the last 2 weeks. l bet he will hit the highway after this contract

Funny how I got howled down last week when I suggested that Hardwick might have chosen the action/timing of Jack's substitution to make a point that he is not bigger than the club. Many were on his side proclaiming how good the public display of his "passion" and "spirit" were, yet 1 week later and another display of petulance, and he has become the anti-Geez. I just hope they deal with this internally and don't choose to publicly admonish him any more than what has already been said. Don't need to give the media jackals any extra reason to attack us.

The latest 'Direct from Dimma' email has been emailed out....
Dear OE,
The most disappointing aspect of our loss to Hawthorn last Saturday night was the ease with which the Hawks were able to score from their inside-50 entries particularly early on and our inability to make the most of the inside-50 opportunities we had.
.....
Check your email inbox for Dimma's full email to RFC members.

I have some real concerns on Conca.
Repeatedly stands on "'wrong side "" at stoppages.
Something you learn in under 16,s :banghead
LMFAO at this post....dude have you ever even been to a game of AFL footy ????
-
I agree with Jackstar. The quality of coaches at Vic Park, Perth, Trinity Grammar and RFC must be so poor if this 3 game dud keeps getting games :banghead

Jarrod Oakleigh Nichols and Aaron Fiora got regular games at College level too. Just saying
But i think i should cut him some slack for his interrupted pre season. He just seems to be caught in no mans land at times and seems very timid out there. Its 3 games but i guess i expected a bit more from him a bit like what Helbig is producing who IMO is everything we should want in a draftee. Tough at it and doesnt seem to take no poo from the opposition.

Well seeing as you guys loathe us (and seemingly everyone ivolved with the club) so much, then maybe its best for everyone that both of you deranged old badgers go and make out under the old stand at Princess park. :thumbsup
Geez I've havent been on this forum very long, but I've allready had a gut-full of you're egotistical, negative tripe. Your not supportive, constructive, or insightful. Your just arrogant and bitter.
Do us all a favor, and eff off. :pray

Grab hold of yourself Willy. We old badgers as you say have been paying our dues for a very very long time & we deserve the right to have our say.
If any buisness is going to ask from thier supporters to help pay thier bills so they can make money, then we as paying members have the right to have our say. Now they aint going to win any silverware soon so they are going to keep asking for money & in that, we will keep the preasure on young fella Short Willy
-
Ease up there willy, this old badger ran 10k in 52 mins tonight, just a tune up for the run for the kids on Sunday, not bad for an old badger, ease up willy ;)

Let's tone down the language folks
Enough with the swearing and trying to avoid the swear filter with what appears to be every 2nd word :banghead :banghead
You can get your point across without using the "f" word in it's various forms constantly
We are extremely lenient when it comes to swearing but our patience is wearing thin. I am sick of the emails :banghead :banghead
The "Swear Bench" has unlimited room and we are heading down the path of having to put some people on it to calm down
-
oh dear there seems no end to the deluded sensitive types who just cant abide criticism of their team of duds. ferals here ferals there ferals everywhere.

Claw, Got no problem with people bagging the players, bagging the coaches, but abusing other posters with over the top swearing because someone doens't agree with you is not necessary and it's wearing thin

i would agree with this wasnt having a go at the mods just laughing at the ferals.
-
Maybe I should produce one of the old style Ramps "Whose Gonna Make It Lists" to keep all the ferals entertained some more, its always entertaining watching people defend players who arent up to it lol. Should I do it? Maybe have a poll?

yes l will enjoy that
everyone knows l said l would trade Rewoldt & l stand by it, but l also admitted l was wrong when he had a good year last year. Will l be right when his traded ??? no because l never expected him to reach the height he did so l admitted l was wrong. But l will be right when he goes to another club.
Jake King>> l always said he was the man & had what it took to play AFL. small bloke will last 8 years then the body will fail. I'M BACKING KINGY
Griffiths ??? l,m not claiming anything here, just that everyone knew his a broken risk player, Talent no-one ever disputed this, Time on the oval, Disputed. Bad draft choice. Pity cause l really like the lad, l really prey that the docs will fix him & prove me wrong. l am a loyal tiger
