Now we're out  :(,

Who would you like to see win the flag?

Who don't you want to see win the flag?

Now we're out  :(,

Who would you like to see win the flag? BEARS , DOGS

Who don't you want to see win the flag?  PUSSIES/DANGERFLOG, TOFFS, ADELWOOD in that order (not counting an unlikely run from BUMBLERS  or COKEHEADS should they make it)

From most hated to least hated and reasons.

Carlton- just hate the cheats!

Geelong - they can get stuffed trying to cheat by putting an obviously biased inside man in the job to sabotage our unbeaten winning formula.

Essendrug - drug cheats that rorted the system and got caught red handed, they are lucky they didn’t get kicked out of the competition.

West Coke - Bloody self righteous privileged party drug cheats like Russia and China had a hidden secret club sanctioned drug regime to win them premierships.

Port Adelaide - no other reason but that I can’t stand Kochie.

Sydney - how many privileges are they awarded to help them succeed?

GWS - another team with the AFL backing them to win. If they win hopefully we can steal Green.

Brisbane - not as bad as the others and wouldn't mind them winning it.

Melbourne - these blokes remind me of us so I can’t hate them now.

Footscray - how can anyone hate Footscray? I certainly don’t and would not hate that they won it again.

Yeah I'd prefer we stayed ahead them for a bit longer than one season after spending 112 years trying to catch and then overtake them... :shh

....and also never forget it was one their mob that perpetrated the 'microwaved membership card" hoax... :shh :shh

...plus most of their supporters are privileged wanker "theatre goer" fans for which following the club is just a peripheral hobby.... :shh :shh :shh

Bulldogs or Lions but first choice will always be Footscray

Who don't you want to see win the flag?
Geelong or Melbourne

Please not Geelong.

GWS, Sydney and reluctantly Melbourne (only because of long suffering family members) to win.

Shocked at support for the Dogs.

I could never in my life think of anything positive from the Western scum. Libba on Knights will be etched in my memory as a kid. Knights was my absolute hero growing up. Would happily see them fold. A flag makes me spew up.

Add Lake knocking out Richo ruining his Brownlow chances. Wallace and Nath Brown rivalry. Get stuffed.

----

Lions or Swans. Can't be happy for any Vic club winning it except us. Maybe Dees as they have no fans anyway.

Giants for me. Backed them at $67 during the Geelong game. They were still $41 yesterday but now $17. Don't like the free kick Dogs. Otherwise Melbourne for me. Think the GF will be Giants V Melbourne or Geelong.

GWS for Leon Cameron, Dogs for the Bont one of the greatest of the 2000s.

Not the cats cos of selwood. He really is a cheat.  I think they won it might make Chris Scott smile which would cause a level 8 earthquake.Bad news for Melbourne.

Dogs had one lately.

Absolutely effing hate the Cats. Port and Brisbane too. But I hate the Cats the most. Omg I hope they make the GF and the Dees beat them by a few points and Dangerfield + Hawkins + Cameron all do ACLs.

Scott IMO has made the cats one of the top 4 most hates teams in the comp.

Due to the Hocking cheating debacle they have become even more. I personally hope they lose by 1 point

I must admit I used to watch plenty of games but I haven't watched many games at all this season. Hocking has completely stuffed the game and it is not watchable. The current game is stuffed and this view is shared by most I know who watch :banghead

I see Scotty has been sooking this week about there being no finals at Kardinia Park. As if having 160 year old rules of the game being changed by SHocking wasn't advantageous enough  ::).

It now would be hilarious to see the Cats get screwed by the GF being played at Adelaide Oval with Port in it. Port will now finish top 2 and if they keep winning will have home finals all the way to the Granny. It would make sense to play the GF in Adelaide if Port make it rather than playing it in a neutral state. The Karma of it all for SHocking and hearing Cat fan sook once again would be worth it.

ps. Very few Port ferals in Melbourne as well so it would be more tolerable over summer.

I couldn’t stomach systematic cheats winning a premiership so Essendrugs can get stuffed.

We also shouldn’t forget that “the weapon” and Dank were at Geelong way before they were at Essendrugs

Apologies WP granted I guess I probably should’ve worded it better and I can’t actually remember how I worded it now that you’ve edited it to say exactly what I meant to say.
The first one was a mistake as I was just asking a question about a “rumour” as I wouldn’t have a clue if it were true so that’s why I was asking I think that is different as I wasn’t starting a rumour but asking about one id heard.

That front on contact to Rozee not being paid a free is the kind of crap we cop on a regular basis. It's the clear ones that are not paid that are just as costly.

Port played a great first half but really failed to put Geelong away after that.  Just ran the clock down & fell over the line.  Was close to a nil all draw after quarter time.  A younger, more vibrant team would've run Port down in the last.

Just a train wreck. Danger 9 turnovers in 23 touches, Henderson had the fumbles, Cameron one goal and no impact, Guthrie no impact, Selwood 16 touches, Dahlhaus 6 possessions. Rohan ouch. Have made an art form of bouncing back after week one losses but that was tough viewing

Of the 23 Geelong players that faced the Power on Friday night, 16 fell short of a pass mark.

One continued his horror finals form, the other was a veteran that “looked like he was 45 years of age”.

Another finals failure but who really cares. The important thing is which 30 year old can the club get during trade period to sell more memberships and seats that we may or may not even be able to use.

Quote from: gogeelongcats
We need to make changes now. I started typing this at quarter time. Could have used the same thing for the last 10 years or so.

GAME PLAN

* This starts with our silly game plan which is slow, boring, predictable, sideways and backward disposals. Does not stand up and is typically pathetic in the finals. Beats weak sides during the year, gets into the finals and then we get pumped. I remember Cook, who is very astute saying that the most important thing is that we make the finals every year. I beg to differ that perhaps it is best to build a team capable of winning premierships. Straight sets is becoming the norm.
* 3 goals in 3 quarters. What chance have you got.
* Chipping the ball, unable to handle pressure and composure as we are not skilled enough. The game plan is flawed in a pressure situation. It is clear to everybody except our coach. We are becoming a laughing stock of the league.
* Incredible frustration and boring game plan
* Above the shoulders is a problem. Playing our younger inexperienced players would not help but they have to be given game time while we are in transition.
* We choke in front of goal. Miss the shots we should get
* If Scott does not change this game plan show him the door. I do not care how many games he has won or how man excuses he has. HE HAS BEEN THERE TOO LONG.

LIST CHANGES

* Too old, too slow, too unskilled, too soft, too mentally fragile
* Reality is we need a fresh approach as there is lack of trust in this set-up
* Drop the players that let us down in the finals every time
* Wholesale list changes are required. Drop Rohan (disappears in big games), Dahl (cannot kick longer than 30 metres, 3-4 disposals per game), Henderson (slow and error ridden), Dangerfield (big game looser), Kolo (cannot keep his feet and to slow), Rohan (where are you?)

UPSIDE

* Close, Henry,

FUTURE

* Rebuild the side. Must rejuvenate the side as the players will have are on a downward spiral and will NOT win a premiership.
* Coach changes needed to introduce a game style that wins premierships
* Leadership changes.
* Call Clarko now.
* Play the younger players. Give them a go.
* Need key pack marking forward, outside run midfielder, inside monster midfielder, key backman…. Too many holes.

Port played a great first half but really failed to put Geelong away after that.  Just ran the clock down & fell over the line.  Was close to a nil all draw after quarter time.  A younger, more vibrant team would've run Port down in the last.
Lions licking their lips ...  Dees sharpening their tridents ...

They went over 5 goals up early in the third and put the cue in the rack.

The sort of thing we have done for years.

Mind on next week.

What a diabolical thing to say.

Need a marking forward despite having Hawkins, Cameron, Rohan and Ratugolea?

Outside mid despite having Smith, Duncan.

Inside monster, aside from Selwood, Menegola, Danger, Guthrie.

Key Blackman maybe they have a bit of a point.

Honestly though the thing I love most is that their coach and plan don't hold up and they never change them haha.

I knew him quite well some 15 to 20 years ago when he was a picture framer in Geelong. Sold him a few painting and had dealings with him in getting some artists doing paintings at this store. Was a good bloke to deal with then. He obviously was heavily Geelong biased but he had nothing much to do with the Club then. Being involved in the football World since then may have changed him and given him the opportunity to influence. Even with this prior knowledge of him I still think these changes that have come under his stay at the AFL head office are just plain bad. The stand rule is the worst rule ever introduced and he has to take responsibility for this abomination on our great game.

The vision of Higgins warming up on the boundary line was pretty funny. It was the closest he got to a contest all night, and we got to hear Brayshaw tell us he won a Best and Fairest at North. That's like being the most courageous French soldier of May 1940 - not exactly massive standards to meet.

Well firstly it was brought in by SHocking just to screw us and benefit his slow Cats without any trialing or testing. Of course, Geelong got notice of the changes before everyone else too. Do you think that's fair?

Secondly, SHocking tried to claim it would increase scoring and bring back the 100-goal-a-season forward. Instead, all it has done is seen the lowest scoring season and lowest Coleman medal winning tally since the 1960s. Teams are just flooding back to defend so the game is just bruise free footy bouncing between the arcs. All we get now is just chip chip chip to HF then a long bomb inside a crowded F50 where most of the time there is no scoring.

What made Aussies Rules great and interesting to watch was there was many different ways to win and it was a game that didn't restrict where players could move on the ground. Different sides had different systems competing against each other. Our 2017 flag with one tall and the rest smalls built on pressure and gang tackling being the perfect example. It's tragic to see our once great side by force being reduced  to playing that chip chip keepings off crap because that's what all teams need to do now to counter the flooding.

For 160 years the game was built on pressure and that SHocking idiot has destroyed that just out of jealously of us >:(. Some of us don't want to watch 18-a-side AFLX with flooding ::). The game is only interesting now if by chance the scores are still close with 5-10 minutes to go. Well, I want 4 quarters of entertaining pressure & contested footy; not watch the equivalent of someone counting down from a 1000  :sleep.

I hate the stand rule as much as the next guy but I’ve never understood why people think it advantages ‘kick-mark’ sides? Isn’t the whole benefit that it allows the player in possession to run around the player on the mark a lot easier? So by that logic it advantages teams that play on from frees/marks more rather than those that chip the ball around and maintain possession?

I personally hate it because it just doesn’t make any sense. Why do you have to stand in one spot? Why can’t you jump around? Why can a player run off their ‘line’ and it not be called play on straight away?

The main reasons I hate it is the watching a guy have to stand there while somebody runs around him. It's nothing like the rest of the game where anybody can come from everywhere. The optics and the hearing the umpire call "STAND" every few seconds make me cringe. Umpires are also so inconsistent in the play on call, some calls are when the player is going back to take his kick and other times the player is almost past the mark before the call it. You can see the frustration and the confusion on the players on the mark having to stand there while their oppentent runs away. The game didn't need this rule full stop so why introduce it and why keep it.

This is what happens when TV broadcasters start running the game. It’s less about the contest and more about the idea of a shootout. Things are out of alignment here. The AFL should work for the clubs  and not the other way round.

well now that the afl got what they wanted, im sure the rules will somehow magically revert back.

Why do you hate the stand rule fluffy. It just takes one defender out of the play and opens up the narrow angles for the kicker. What's not to like?

This rule was not bought in via a recommendation of the rules committee. SHocking by-passed it and presented it to Gil and then commission and it got the green light. That he was allowed to do that is as big a blight on the game as the rule itself. And Gil should be embarrassed and hang his head in shame. Only decent thing Gil has done regarding SHocking is show him the door as soon as he got the Geelong gig but sadly the damage has been done

I hate the rule for many reasons.

Firstly, it was clearly bought in to impact on our game style because SHocking didn't like our dominance. Rules should not be bought in to favour one team over another.  They are supposed to bought in to improve the game.  Recent history tells us that many rules changes have not improved the game. In the most part they have led to more confusion and frustration

Secondly, they boasted it would improve scoring and make the game faster and look better due to less congestion.  It has down none of those things. Watching kick to kick, zig zagging and slow ball movement doesn't make the game look better, it isn't exciting it is boring

Defence believe it or not is a skill of our game. A special skill. Some clubs are good at it others aren't. Standing the mark, manning the mark to create perceived pressure is a skill. But this rule says that to have that skill is wrong. Seriously WTF?

During the course of the year I've watched a number of games from the last couple of years (because I can't watch the game now because of how it's played) and I cannot fathom why this change was needed.

No one can tell me that hearing the umps yelling "stand" every 10 seconds is good for the game.

No one can tell me that with a someone standing still 45 mteres from goal and having a player being able to run right up beside the statute at 45 metres and kick for goal is good for the game or looks good. That's not our game, it shouldn't be part of our game.

Throw in the lack of the consistency around how it's being umpired, that is sometimes they call play on when the kicker goes off the mark most time they don't... that's not good for game

The rule is a blight on the game, it's embarrassing and it has destroyed a important skill because one bloke decided he wanted to, needed to leave a mark on the game. Why? Only he can answer but I think most of us know the answer

My ranking of teams I'd least like to win the premiership this year.

1. Essendon
Drug cheats who should have had their AFL license revoked. They are ahead of us on 16 premierships; I look forward to us narrowing the gap, not them widening it.

2. Geelong
Where to start? We have taught Chris Scott to respect us (begrudgingly), but deep down he can't stand us and can't figure out how to emulate us. We talk of 'connectedness' and 'Richmond Man'; he and his star players grow their hair long to express their individuality and acceptance of difference. They just don't get it. Seeing a Chris Scott post-KO press conference is delectable, a delight--something to have your morning coffee to with the promise of a great day to come. The Geelong Dad's Army model does not deserve validation and Steve Hocking's clear conflict of interest-- his ad hoc, untested rule changes that have profoundly eroded the aesthetics of the game--deserve to be punished.

3. Port Adelaide
The Bonaparte Syndrome entrant on the list: Port fans are as feral as it gets; they sure wish we cared about them and their opinions, but we just don't, and that's what hurts them the most. Where irrelevance meets shinboner meets illiterate, unabashed criminality, you find Port Adelaide fans. They make me proud to know Collingwood people. Not even their own mothers want them to win the premiership.

4. Sydney
Historical advantages for player acquisition and retention, perpetual home ground advantage to propel them into finals more years than not, dour football, dour coach--it took a Hardwick rocket for Longmire to use his library card to start taking out books about attacking, entertaining football.

5. Western Bulldogs
Soon after the 2016 grand final, Beveridge said he expected it to be the first in a Bulldogs dynasty. I simply don't want history to show that from 2016 to 2021 Richmond won 3 premierships and the Bulldogs 2. Should they stop throwing the football to each other, I have no real problem with them triumphing at a later date.

6. GWS
Fake club created for commercial reasons who turned on each other when the going got tough after the 2019 GF. The Amazon documentary exposed a toxic, antiquated culture in my opinion--not quite the Adelaide Ubermensch, Einsatzgruppen mentality, but a ruthless streak that is unlikeable nonetheless.

7. Brisbane
Faux tough Mitch Robinson aside, I have no real problems with Brisbane winning it, although I doubt they can now. I think that's a case in point: they are a little soft to be premiers; the Geelong home prelim was an embarrassment last year.

8. Melbourne
The team that reminds me most of Richmond 2017. Just like we were at that time, I think they are humbled enough by historical failures to take goodwill into the finals as 'everyone's second team'. Good luck to them, because I sure don't fancy any of the others winning it instead!

But it’s not just the narrative that has the Demons reminding so many of the Tigers; St Kilda great Nick Riewoldt said on Saturday night if the sides “weren’t wearing jumpers”, you could’ve mistaken Goodwin’s side for Hardwick’s.

Brisbane champion Jonathan Brown added that it feels like a repeat of Richmond’s 2017 premiership triumph against the odds.

Geelong play a beautiful game, when it works. The pretty, training-drill movement of the ball from end to end – kick, mark and possession – is an attractive way to play. But they have often struggled against the high-intensity teams in September. - Michael Gleeson.

Welcome to SHocking's rules ...

where this is a free because it's Tom Hawkins diving (another Shooting Stars meme).

https://twitter.com/ethanmeldrum_/status/1433770831134412800

and this isn't a free kick because you apparently can put your opponent in a headlock if you're a Geelong player.

and this is a free because when both players are holding each other it's still a free to Geelong.

and this isn't a free because it's once again Hawkins and he's allowed to push his opponent in the face/head.

and this isn't a free because Danger is allowed to scoop and throw the ball.

Yep and they are developing quite a poor finals record indeed.

Straight sets in 2019 with a hiding from Richmond.
1-1 in 2020 with a hiding from Cats.
Straight sets in 2021 with a convincing loss to Dees.

Another free to Dangerfield when he is again deliberately diving  ::). He does it regularly and nothing is said by the media or done by the MRO. Grimes and Floss after trial by media were wrongly fined (challenged it at the tribunal and got off) after being accused of staging for the first time.

It should have also been a free against Rohan for taking his eyes off the ball to block the Melbourne defender which allowed Isaac Smith to mark for that last goal.

Anyway, Melbourne could've/should've killed off the game if they had nailed those three misses in a row. Those last two Geelong goals have kept the Cats in it (barely) on the scoreboard. The Dees should still win as they are destroying the Cats at ground level in the forward half (very us in 2017) but if the Dees blow this in the second half they can blame those three missed shots.

The white flag went up tonight from the Cats. This is a total annihilation.

This will destroy the Cats' psyche going forward. They definitely now know their aging topped-up group cracks easily in finals and will never win a flag. I can see them missing the finals next year. The belief will be gone and they'll also be another year older and slower.

Worse still is all the topping up will result in an almighty fall off the cliff in the near future and long long rebuild from scratch. We won't have to worry about Geelong for at least another decade.

Wouldn’t go down that road yet. People have been saying/thinking that for the best part of a decade now lol

Goes to show that rule changes don’t mean you can’t play with ferocity, pace and pressure. Lack of desire and cohesion was the reason for our downfall this year IMO.

Too many people are forgetting how Melbourne really got here:

Tanked by their coach's own admission - found "not guilty" by the AFL but still fined 500k ...but then get given 3 million by AFL (on top of the subsidies minnow clubs already get that big clubs like ours essentially pay for) who then also give them Paul Roos at no cost to the club (and let us also not forget their current coach was one of Hird's assistants during the Essendon drugs scandal)..got to keep their high picks earned from tanking which they kept rolling over by staying shyte and building the list the currently have...then got more high picks for being shyte for another two years after initially coming good ...I mean good luck to 'em for taking advantage of the system and glad they knocked off the handbaggers....but any comparison to us is stuffing laughable... :shh

A virus that swept through a section of Geelong’s playing group forced the club to warn the AFL of late mass changes on Friday evening.

Foxfooty.com.au understands at least six Geelong players - including Cam Guthrie, Tom Hawkins, Jeremy Cameron, Brad Close, and Lachie Henderson - were ill in the two days leading up to the club’s preliminary final belting to Melbourne.

It’s believed club doctors became so concerned with the health of half-a-dozen players, Geelong felt it had no choice but to notify the AFL.

Ultimately, all six players took part in the game, but some were extremely unwell during the match, especially at half-time and afterwards.

Cameron in particular struggled, collecting four disposals, kicking two goals and taking one mark for the night in a subdued performance.

Geelong insiders refused to confirm sickness to players or use the virus as an excuse for the 83-point defeat when contacted by foxfooty.com.au on Saturday, but coach Chris Scott alluded to it in his post-game press conference.

100% tanked it bigtime coach and I think McLean admitted it yet the afl didn't take no picks work that out typical afl mediocrity.

Id rather the dogs now but I reckon the Dees will win it.  They have a slightly harder midfield.  But either one I don't mind.  I didn't see the game but was it Ports midfield that was its weakness?  Or back line or just general pathetic all round bunch of girly weaklings.

They just got ambushed early. Even when it looked like they wrestled some control back and we’re on top the damage had already been done and it just took 1 dogs goal to break them each time.

Always prefer a non Vic team to win it but out of all the vic teams to be fighting it out I’d say the dogs and dees are as good as we could have hoped.

Honestly they just looked terrified.

Lost in the midfield mostly.

Completely overworked all over the field, dogs midfield was surging back and forward, huge pressure all over the ground.

Very Richmond-esque.

Melbourne say it’s gastro, symptoms developed this morning and they are being cautious.

Why does it feel wrong, it is just channel 7 looking after themselves by making it a night GF IMO and takes away from the tradition
Turns it into a boy night out instead of a family day.
Members should get to vote in the AFL commission so there is a return to a “people’s game”

For mine, the only thing wrong with tonight's GF is there is no Tigers. I don't care if it's at 2.30am I just want us in it. Been spoiled in recent years and it feels a bit odd to still have footy going a month after our season has finished. I hope the boys are watching on tonight and go into preseason and 2022 with renewed energy and hunger.

As for who I want to win tonight - I'm split.

For Neale Daniher who has done so much on and courageously off (MND) field it would be great for him to see Melbourne get up while he is still on this Earth.

From a selfish RFC point of view (we're one flag ahead of the Dees) and because I grew up in Footscray/Seddon/Yarraville I would like to see the Dogs win it.

Melbourne all over them. Dogs bottom 6 being shown up so far cracking under pressure and making basic mistakes. This could be over at half-time if this keeps up.

What a turnaround! Bontempelli just killed it that quarter although I would still have Daniels as the best Bulldog across the whole half. Dogs mids got on top which protected their dodgy defence and they were able to mostly keep the ball in their forward half. Just like 2017, Lever is taken out of the game if he has an opponent that makes him accountable.

The message for us under these SHocking rules, as much as we hate them and especially his stupid stand rule, is that swarming physical pressure and the old contested game is dead. It's a more open running game now built on pace and good footskills on the back of winning centre clearances. You need multiple skilled hard running ballwinners in the midfield. Both these sides have average forward lines compared to past Grand Finalists when you look at the names (Naughton arguably the exception). It's whoever dominates the midfield and makes the least bad turnover skill errors kicking into flooded forward lines wins. So it makes sense that the noises coming out of the Club is that we want to target midfielders in this upcoming draft.

Both have great clearance mids but when that's serviced by rucks like Gawn & Jackson you can see the difference. Martin is cooked and English just isn't a 'big man's at all.

4 centre clearance goals to the Dees in about 10  minutes. That's a killer. Dogs' midfield set-up didn't protect the defensive side of the contest. Something we did regularly this year and we paid the same price. With SHocking's rules you are tactically very limited to change things up. So if the other team gets on a run with centre clearances you're a sitting duck.

Congrats to Melbourne

Only problem is they're one of those sides where there are so many players I can't stand as the come across a smart behinds or just arrogant. Every team has a couple but the Demons for me at least there's 6 or 7

So really not that happy for them or their equally cocky supporters.... the ones I know are going to be unbearable to be around

And noticed they copied the Tigers with all the players who didn't play out on the ground after the siren either their jumpers on.. ::)

Dogs were GWS like in the last 1.5 quarters. 1.1-7 to 16.4-100  :o.

As for the AFL, bet they won't change the rules to stop Melbourne winning another one ::).

Although the rules suited them it can’t be disputed that Melbourne’s centre bounce game is off tap. They were always a great stoppage side but in earlier days they got cut open on the outside because their midfielders were slow. I don’t know if it’s the stand rule or the maturity of their midfield but they don’t get cut up on fast breaks like they used to.

WA borders are closed to Victoria unless you get an exemption

G Lyon was allowed in because he got an exemption as part of the media. He like BT, Brayshaw and a few other media folks got exemptions to go and went over a fortnight before the GF and did quarantine

Eddie wasn't given an exemption. He tried claiming he was going as media but when he wanted exemptions for his 2 teenage sons who aren't media he got knocked back

As for the 2 knucklehead Dees supporters it is totally different. They didn't have an exemption. So simply they are not allowed into WA.

The fact that the went to Darwin did a fortnights quarantine there and then went to WA is irrelevant.

Although doing the NT hop that was allowed under QLD rules last year it is not allowed under WA rules. Remember WA has the harshest border rules in the country; even more so during Delta outbreaks. Further to that they have breached Victorian lockdown rules which from what I understand automatically means they are not allowed into WA under any circumstance (stand corrected on that).

The main reason they got caught is because the 2 dills got their photos taken celebrating with the players at every opportunity and one photos ended up on one of the AFL's social media platforms....

Pretty sure I read they spent time in police custody overnight and are facing massive fines up to $50k each :lol
