Title: Tigers vs Kangaroos game thread
Post by: one-eyed on August 29, 2011, 06:49:51 PM
The AFL site is tipping us to win by over 4 goals ....

SUMMARY
Last weekend could hardly have panned out more differently for these two clubs.

The Tigers went to AAMI Stadium, where they had not beaten Adelaide since 1999, and defeated the Crows by 22 points in a very impressive performance. North Melbourne, meanwhile, was knocked out of finals contention after being thrashed by St Kilda at Etihad Stadium.

The Roos' loss means there is nothing but pride on the line in this match, which is the last of the home and away season.

Richmond will be desperate to finish off its encouraging campaign with another victory (that would make it four in a row), while Brad Scott's men need to fight back after their capitulation against the Saints.

The Tigers have few injury concerns other than their skipper Chris Newman, whose season has already come to an end due to a knee injury.

But North are likely to make at least a couple of changes after promising midfielders Jack Ziebell and Levi Greenwood were offered suspensions by the match review panel.

QUESTION MARKS
Can the Tigers finish ninth again? Richmond has finished in ninth place on six occasions since the top eight was introduced for the 1994 season. If the Tigers beat North, and the Bulldogs beat Fremantle, you can make that seven.

Will North Melbourne be flat as a pancake this weekend? The Kangaroos put everything into their clash with the Saints, and led by 24 points in the second quarter, yet came up well short. As a result, they might be already contemplating their footy trip.

PREDICTION
Richmond by 26 points

I just can't understand going into an agreement with that Nought club.
We'd get more going into an agreement with a suburban club.

Now now don't be snobs.  This is because we are a big crowd drawing club, and this will start to become something of a trend that we should embrace.  More clubs will want blockbusters with us in the future as we regain our lost mojo.  This is to be embraced as our star becomes ascendant and collingwoods wains into oblivion.  Look for the positives not the silly negatives.

Hahahaha advertising McIntosh in case we are still interested.  : :-\  Have had no intention of bringing him in all year. Nought football club.
Just in case Hamish has a son and can qualify for father and son. His inclusion suggests to me Nought are ready to trade on him regardless of what they have been saying all along. :-\

I hate North with a passion and always have and I especially hate losing to them!!  Best team on the paddock Tige's and flog the crap out of them!!

Gotta say I lost allot of respect for Boomer with the way he conducted himself last week. Starting fights and then going limp and sooking to the umpire. Carried on like a schoolyard biatch.
Wouldnt see our Cotch doing this.
I used to think he was a quality player and individual. not anymore.

Whinger and whiner. Downhill skier kicks those three bounce goals against Port and trams that are struggling and resorts to the above against the better sides and hence no impact.
Nought needs to move him on but they won't and it will stifle them as a club.
FWIW I thought Dermie was spot on with his assessment a few weeks back. Very selfish player. Showed no on field leadership on Saturday night after his team was getting swamped. Come to think of it very few on field leaders at Nought.

And didn't Dermie cop it but now even Mike Sheahan has come out given Boomer a  whack - well done Mike if only a few seasons too late

The Age - VERDICT

North Melbourne must be deflated after yet again failing dismally when built up for a big test, last week's loss to St Kilda underlining how far they have to go to be a contender. However, the young Roos have often rebounded strongly after such disappointments, when they have come up against teams of their own calibre or lower.

Richmond is full of vim after an unexpected resurgence at the end of the season. Their elite midfielders Trent Cotchin, Brett Deledio and Dustin Martin are performing more strongly than North's best, and Kangaroos skipper Brent Harvey can again expect close attention. The improved effectiveness of tall forward Tyrone Vickery is enabling Richmond to spread a scoring load once left on Jack Riewoldt's shoulders.

Petrie again looms as a threat for improved Tiger backman Alex Rance, but fellow forwards Lindsay Thomas, Aaron Edwards and Matt Campbell will need to produce much more to make sure the Roos keep up on the scoreboard.

North has the edge in the ruck through Hamish McIntosh and Todd Goldstein, and probably bats lower in terms of talent. But the Tigers have the most dynamic midfield talent, some momentum, and a confidence boosting round five win over the Roos in mind.

Seventeen weeks after that entertaining match, the same result could be repeated - a narrow Richmond victory, which would leave both teams wondering whether they have progressed in 2011.

Those inclusions suggest a few things

1. We will smash them

2. HMac risking injury for one pathetic meaningless game says IMO they could be looking to throw him out there, whilst at the same time still having ties to the club playing 100 games.

Tigers eye last roar
Sam Lienert
September 4, 2011

NORTH Melbourne has every excuse for a flat performance, and Richmond can gain by losing, but Tigers coach Damien Hardwick expects the home-and-away season to finish with a bang, not a whimper, at Etihad Stadium today.

The Kangaroos face the emotional toll of having their finals hopes emphatically punctured by St Kilda last weekend.

The mood was not helped at selection, with Jack Ziebell and Levi Greenwood out suspended and Daniel Wells and Lachie Hansen out injured, among six changes.

The Tigers are better off, with Jake King (suspension) their only forced omission and wins in their past three matches. But they could also be excused for being at less than fever-pitch, given a win could lift them to ninth and cost them six spots in the order for November's national draft.

But Hardwick said building a winning culture remained the club's priority and there was no hint of lagging enthusiasm from his players, despite their finals hopes being long gone.

''Funnily enough, no, our guys are really keen to play this game and finish off on a winning note,'' Hardwick said. ''The enthusiasm of our group has been very, very good throughout the course of the year. We're really looking forward to the challenge of North Melbourne.''

Despite the Kangaroos' selection woes and last weekend's disappointment, Hardwick said it would be foolish to expect a club famed for its fighting spirit to bow out meekly.

''They're a competitive football club,'' he said. ''Over the course of the time that I've been coaching and playing they're a side that you never underestimate. They're a proud footy club, they're a great footy club, and Brad [Scott's] got them playing some really exciting footy.''

If the Kangaroos need inspiration, farewelling much-respected three-time best-and-fairest winner Brady Rawlings should help.

''We've got our superstars in Brent Harvey and these types of players who are revered around the place, but Brady is revered because he largely reflects how we want to be seen as a footy club,'' Scott said.

''He's extremely capable, but extremely humble at the same time. The players will be desperate to get the right result for Brady.''

Kangaroos ruckman Hamish McIntosh will play his only game of the season, after having most of his year wrecked by injury, while key forward Aaron Black will make his debut.

Ordinary effort after half time.

Jackson, cheap shot on Swallow, misses a critical goal chance.

Delivery into the forward 50 pretty ordinary.

Does that give us pick 12?

Daniel Jackson is a stuffing moron. I will not attend another game whilst he is on the list.

Really worth us losing ?

i know jacko isnt that great but very unusual he misses two opportunities that most players could nail and "punches the best player swallow" ... and as he walked around the field and games end he tried to talk to Lids and lids turned his head ... very curious

Jackson's clumsy efforts all year will see him culled. Not a afl player with them missing skills

Melbourne were up to their old tricks.  The umpires were diabolical again tonight, I can't watch anymore games so it is good the season is over.  Let me know when they fix the rules and fix these match fixers because AFL scripted send offs are really starting to pee me off.

Deledio is probably just sick of playing footy with blokes who cant play. And I cant say I blame him.

How can a old man like Brent Harvey run rings around young players all day & the coach cant contain him  :banghead

Looked on the idiot box like they tried playing the press all day and didn't tag any of the Norf runners.

at least we lost and had our many weaknesses exposed again - you know just in case ppl were ready to gloss over the bad and talk about how we finished 9th and just missed out. Worst thing that could have happened was us winning a game where we were crap most of the day

Agree. Its good to see confirmation that quite afew are not up to it. Richmond needs to pull the plug on their careers and do it this trade and delisting period.

We have the better team. Just played sloppy.

We have another pre-season refining that forward press, we'll be much better. It does work, but when teams get over the top of it, it is a certain goal.

guys we should've smashed them and didnt. We have the better team and now we have the better pick so im happy.

The guys played well today and usual passengers were shown up to be the garbage that they are.

Edwards, Farmer and Jackson dont shut the door on your way out gents.

Some good signs today. Nahas and Houli played well. Post wont be going anywhere he will become a better player if he is kept in the team. I really believe he can make it at this level. He is a KPP after all. Plenty more to go before him.

I thought Houli was far to loose on Harvey ... Harvey who I cannot stand ran off him too easily early on ....

Can't agree with you on Post, yep took some nice contested marks but poor reader of the play and poor decision maker

Would also show Angus Graham the door as well, USELESS

We all knew it already, but that ruck contest where he was 20m by himself, and still lost the hitout because he wasn't even watching the ball really confirmed it.

I saw that and threw a chip over the top tier in disgust... Apologies if it hit anyone.

Farcical.. He was unopposed and just missed the ball..

Pretty simple reasons why we lost tonight:

* our bottom 6 or so players are so sub-standard it ain't funny.
* one and bit decent quarters doesn't win you too many footy matches.
* we played like Mad Monday was around the corner with plenty of frontrunners out there but not too many Tigers will to work defensively.
* forward entries and defensive work was terrible apart from maybe the 2nd quarter. We had almost 20 more inside 50s yet North had twice as many marks inside their forward 50. The press only works if you work hard to hold the ball in. Way too many times the ball got over the back thanks to dropped marks and weak/mistimed aimless spoils.

A jolt back to reality after 3 straight wins will be good for the whole Club going into the preseason and 2012. Then again maybe Craig Cameron took my advice from the fan forum and we tanked to avoid ninth :lol.

Dont laugh at the start of the final qtr when after getting the first 2 clearances out of the middle somone I was sitting with suggested we were tanking ot avoid ninth by moving Dusty out of the middle  ;D

I would think that when a bloke 6ft 7" or 8" cannot out mark a bloke about 6ft 1" in a one on one contest you know it's pointless having him out there... that's Gus  :banghead

I just hate losing to this nothing club.
Make selfish footballers like Harvey look like matchwinners when our selfish footballers like Jako miss goals from 30 out at critical times and give away posession and stupid frees.
Nought played smarter b/c we have some ridiculously dumb and unskilled footballers.
Petrie has no right to mark that last one in the square but he did.
Season over 8.5 wins and 12th place. Lets be honest to ourselves. Prior to round 1 this year this is where we expected to be.
Most critical off season in Dimma's tenure. Needs to off load at least 8 blokes minimum and turn the list over. VFL, WAFL, SANFL draft do your homework boys.
I just do not want to see Jako in a RFC guernsey ever again.
