The AFL is preparing for Carlton and Gold Coast to make applications for priority draft picks at the end of the season.
The expectation from the league is that both clubs will apply, as they must to have a chance of receiving an extra draft pick under the rules. Carlton and Gold Coast have won two and four games respectively in 2018, occupying the bottom two positions on the table.

Carlton played finals only 5 years ago when they beat us in the EF :scream. It's not over a decade without finals like we had to endure from 2002-12 and before that 1983-1994. Their downfall has been through their own ineptness both on and off-field. No one forced them to trade away so many senior players that are still playing elsewhere. When they last had a priority pick they traded an early pick away plus Josh Kennedy for Judd as a 'quick fix'. It's a joke if they receive a priority pick now.

Their CEO Cain Liddle ( ex Richmond ) came out and stated categorically that Carlton will not be applying for a priority pick because Carlton finally want to take responsibility for their current position. Their President then came out and strongly confirmed their stance with the same reasoning.
It would be a stunning reversal if they now apply for a priority pick and probably confirms why the Blues are absolute rabble.

How about they merge the two stuffing minnow clubs, may as well throw North in there as well and if they are lucky they might have a competitive team

What the Scum want is for the AFL to just give them a priority pick - so that they can say "well we never applied! But they gave us one, so why would we say no?" and keep their pathetic pride in tact.
But that's not how it works. So they'll be forced to apply. So they will want reassurances that IF they apply they WILL be given the pick. The AFL won't do that (so far).
Stinking Scrubs....

Jay Clark reporting that GC and Blues might get a pick at the start of round 1, not at the end
if that is true it’s a bloody disgrace

That's rubbish. Two clubs get priority picks after their first, add in at least one free agency compo and we move back at least 3 places. This needs to stop. First round should be sacrosanct and any charity has to come at the end of it.

I'd be ok with giving picks after the bottom 10 had all picked once.

Sam McClure has revealed that Carlton and Gold Coast look set to be given priority access to two state players each at this year’s draft.
On top of that, both clubs will also receive an extra pick that could potentially carry the condition that they have to trade it to another club.
With the AFL working hard to grant this proposal, McClure says the Blues and the Suns are now both unlikely to be given an early first round priority pick.

Can we start a petition to stop carton getting extra picks?
-
I hope they get nothing.
History has proven that priority picks don't cause equalisation.
Astute recruiting and list management does. Not more chances at getting it right.

The AFL has rejected a priority pick for Carlton.

No priority pick for Carlton (the right decision by the way).
No Brownlow for Collingwood.
Still need more to cheer me up.
