Lynch mark causes social stir after Howe hanger deemed "dangerous"

When Tom Lynch took a hanger on Kyle Hartigan’s head in the second quarter of tonight’s clash between Richmond and Adelaide, Twitter nearly exploded.
Lynch’s knee collects Hartigan in the head, causing him to come from the ground groggily.
The mark was paid as it has been for 100 years and play continued on.
However, it’s drawn comparisons to the decision to pay a free kick against Jeremy Howe on Monday, where the Collingwood defender put his foot into the back of Tom McDonald.
A free kick was paid against Howe for the decision, with the AFL citing that he used his studs in “a manner likely to cause injury”.
Obviously, a knee to the temple is probably just as likely to cause an injury, as social media was quick to point out.

Howe took a mark no if’s bits or maybes.
How the umpire thought that should be given a free kick only highlights that particular umpires cluelessness in regards to footy in general and is completely indifferent to the nuances of the game
The AFL should come out and explain why the umpire got this decision wrong.
If they agree with the umpires decision then the game has got a serious problem and we as supporters and fans will eventually lose interest altogether.

The AFL brought in a rule about studs out. No rule on knees out but of course the AFL will ban this as well
-
Will bring in a rule on the basis of potential to cause serious injury, yet another rule that will be open to interpretation.

Love how the twitter & facebook comments of a handful pf random nobodies now constitutes a public outcry and is reported as "news"... they might as well start covering OER threads ...:shh

lol what a feed of poo. He survived didn't he? The stops out one was a stupid free too but it was a casualty of that idiot from GWS karate kicking people in the face to take marks.
-
IMO the rule should change to something similar to the “kicking in danger rule”
If you put your foot up/stops up, the umpire has to determine if it was a dangerous act or simply going for the footy.
Not that hard really.
Both were marks and have been for over 100 years.

I have to agree with that Tone ... :thumbsup

Didn’t Gawn get kicked in the face not that long ago? The whole head is sacred thing has always been a farce. Similar to the bouncing the ball when you run rule. If it makes for a good spectacle the umpires don’t enforce it

Was a knee. Can’t blame umpire for the Howe thing, it’s now a free.

Next we will have doctor cam to see if the mark was legal or dangerous to see if it is a mark or a free kick and fifty the other way.

Great mark. It's so nice knowing we have a big KPF that opp players will feel nervous about running into backwards...
