Title: Rhan Hooper
Post by: one-eyed on October 08, 2007, 04:58:07 PM
BF post on the Richmond board saying we've offered out of contract Hooper $500k for 3 years which the Lions at this stage won't match.

he is a very skillful player and i believe he a tambling will be able to work together and bring teh best out of each otehr.

imo, he will feel better playing with us alongside blingers, peterson, jon, edwards and krak if krak dtays around

my other theory is that krak is on the move and they want hooper to replace him

hooper is a classy player and dont worry about hime wantingto quit footy early this yr, it was footy that was the problem it was the bfc  ;)

id rather pay 170k a year to hooper than 250k a year to krak.

With thanks to a PMer  :) - apparently Hooper wants to come to us to be re-united with the family in Victoria.

He has pace to burn which would be very handy in the midfield if he could play there plus up forward, but in games I've seen him play at the Lions he's only played as a small goalsneak. Small forwards who can't play midfield are a dying breed.

forward pocket only at this stage, i see him better than krakouer but hes a squad player at this stage wouldnt want to pay more than a 4th rounder or pick 51 for hooper.

Been impressed when I've seen him play for the Lions.

Remember he missed an entire pre-season this year and still looked very sharp.

personally im disappointed that the focus is on forward pockets and half forward flankers...if the clubs football department reckon thats the way to improve then we are well and truly stuffed.

We are stuffed ramps. Will we ever become a professional outfit or are just going to remaining the laughing stock forever. Just the talk is killing me, even if half of it is not true. Delist the crap on our list trade the tradables on our list for draft picks, and go for the KIDS. The only recycled player should come from the PSD.

250k i wouldnt pay Krak 100k the way his attitude has been.

He is spent as a AFL footballer in my book

xXx the difference between hooper and a draft pick. is the draft pick wants to play and will turn up to training. do we need another kraka, he came with heaps of potential too.

spot on mate...

who better to start with Krak. im sick and tired of paying $400 every year to watch him and Schulz.

i often ask myself do these guys actually want to play for RFC or they just love collecting their cheque every week.

get rid of em and start with the kids..look at the hawks and pies now

From what I've seen of him I like, but haven't seen much.
I'd have him.  He would just be a straight swap for Krak's contract  :thumbsup

Alistair Lynch's view of Hooper:

Hooper, in the football wilderness eight months ago, could be anything.

His form in the second half of the year, with his blistering pace and his second and third efforts, was as exciting as any small forward in the league.

Tigers in Lions' den
Mark Stevens | Courier Mail | October 10, 2007 12:00am

RICHMOND yesterday stepped up its campaign to lure Brisbane Lions speedster Rhan Hooper with senior club officials visiting Ipswich to talk to him.

The hit-and-run visit was headed by coach Terry Wallace. Wallace, assistant coach Craig McRae, a triple Brisbane premiership player, and Tigers utility Richard Tamblyn (sic) met Hooper in Ipswich last night.

It's understood the Tigers are prepared to offer the out-of-contract Hooper $500,000 over three years.

Brisbane is expected to meet with Hooper on Friday but because of salary cap restrictions the Lions will struggle to match Richmond's monetary package.

Hooper's better off in Melbourne - Ipswich's a hell-hole.

It is forward line speed and defensive pressure I think we are looking for in Hooper- would be a very handy pick up

That's a good point as the pressure from our forwards is ordinary. For Hooper to make it in the AFL though he'll still need to be able to push in the midfield too like a Leon Davis who saved and resurrected his footy career by doing both roles of midfield and forward goalsneak.

Miller said the club was “hopeful” of attracting Brisbane livewire Rhan Hooper south, although he believed the gifted left-footer would remain in the Lions’ den.

but we dont want trades for the sake of saying we got 5 players. Trading for trading sake is wrong. We need quality youngsters- lets go to the draft with our picks and see what we get.

thank Geez for some sense.

just because it is trade week,  doesnt mean you have to take everything on offer or pay over the odds just to say you have made a trade.

I think if Miller doesnt nab a big name - which is the most likely outcome now- It will be disappointing but what do you want, we cant trade for the sake of trading. If Miller doesnt live up to expectations then Im sure theyll look at it.

what im saying is miller shopuld just shut the f up, not say and imply we are going to chase and get this player that player etc, and keep saying we will be active .

and then turn around and say he hasnt spoken to anyone. one minute he says he has spoken a club re a player and then he says he hasnt spoken

his tricks and bluffs dont work anymore

its time he stops talking and just produces , whether its trades or picking the right players in the draft

so much angst today/tonight.

tell you right now that what ever decisions are made arent all gregs alone, there is a process in place that involves more than one man. :whistle
