Title: Premiership Droughts
Post by: The Big Richo on November 26, 2011, 08:00:35 PM
Came across these and found it interesting:
Seasons since Flag:
0    Geelong
1    Collingwood, Gold Coast
3    Hawthorn
5    West Coast
6    Sydney
7    Port Adelaide
8    Brisbane
11  Essendon
12  Kangaroos
13  Adelaide
16 Freo
16 Carlton
31 Richmond
44 St Kilda
46 Melbourne
55 Bulldogs

Ave: 17.12* Not including GC

Vic Ave: 20.7

I/S average: 9

Interesting figures these.

Shows the AFL is on track with its model of clubs winning premierships at equal intervals, the average of 17 years is about right, just not the right clubs winning!

The interstate average well down because the clubs havent existed long enough to have a long drought.

Bad news for us whichever way you look at it.

Melbs????

Pleasing to see Carlton and Essendon at near bottom of the list.

How they keep dodging media criticism is beyond me.

Essendon won't make finals next year, and hopefully with Judd turning 29 next year, the window closes a little at Pricefix Park

Freo been around 17 years total. Can't remember them winning one in their 2nd year.

Good spot Dooks, I checked and Melb was off the list so I went back and put them in and adjusted the averages.

6 years ago (2005) the average figures would have been significantly different (higher) with the Swans going 60 years, Geelong 44 years, Collingwood 15 years and Hawthorn 14 years since their last respective premierships.

Ah premiership droughts! Remember dad always spoke of '67 being like a dream just to be in the grand final, and they had to keep pinching themselves that they were there. And that was just a 24 year drought...now in Richmonds longest premiership drought of 31 years and counting. Will be the same feeling of being like a dream whenever we get there...mixed with intense nerves!

The Doggies and Saints missed their chance to break their droughts in recent years. The window is now shut for both of them.

Snip! Stick to the footy topic and discussion on this Richmond Rant board ppl. Not only in this thread but the others as well as too many in the last few days involve wading through irrelevant non-footy crap which spoils the enjoyment of the forum for all posters who want to read about and discuss the footy topics. Cheers OE.

With clubs like St Kilda around it always provides some pleasure knowing their drought could last a lifetime compared to the time we have been in the wilderness.

Would love to get into a GF and win it first up just to make people supporting St Kilda and the Ski Chalet how crap they really are in the scheme of things.

Sounds good to me Tucky :lol  :thumbsup. Reminds me of the story of the 1934 premiership when apparently the Club and some supporters hired a bus to celebrate and drove it around the streets of South Melbourne that night to rub it into the Swans fans lol.
