I think it's a rare game we got through without injury [touchwood].
Fire away with your changes :help.
-
Too many to drop. The reserves won't take them
-
Out: Balta (needs a break)
-
They will all enjoy the break. Higgins must be in trouble as should Ellis. I wouldn't continue with Gathwaite in the seniors. Let him continue to develop in the lower level... he is being man handled and looks along way off.
-
Out: Higgins, Butler/Rioli, Menadue, Ellis
In: Edwards(if fit) Cotchin(if fit), Turner, Bolton .....RCD in for Naish if he gets more than 20 touches in the VFL. :shh
-
Outs- Higgins, Garthwaite, Butler, Bellis, Menadue :lol, Houli
And out of that lot the only one I would want to see again this year is Higgins. The rest are putrid.
Ins- Hopefully we get a few back.
I was watching the game with my neighbour who isn’t a footy person, and he said the guy with the beard cannot get rid of the footy quick enough- Houli the Brave

Relief in sight with half a dozen Tigers in line to return

THE END of Richmond's injury crisis is near, with the club hopeful of regaining as many as six players for its clash with St Kilda following its bye next week.
Captain Trent Cotchin is set to return from a hamstring setback that kept him from travelling to the Adelaide Oval this week, while experienced duo Shane Edwards and David Astbury are also likely to come back into the side following their own respective hamstring injuries.
The club is hopeful Kane Lambert will make his comeback from an Achilles problem, with young defender Jayden Short also on the verge of returning from a gruesome elbow injury.
Ruckman Ivan Soldo should also make a speedy recovery from illness.

* If fit. Something tells me Edwards, Cotch and Lambert won't play. The Club always understates our injuries ::).
IMV we've been playing too short the past 3 weeks and have been getting smashed in the air. Saints play two key forwards: Bruce and Membrey. We need to be playing two key defenders even if Garth was poor on Thursday night. Bring Astbury back and move Garth to the 2nd forward with Floss or Broad to cover as 3rd man up spoiling and intercept marking.
I prefer an up and about Balta from a month ago over Knobel-clone Soldo but Balta looks like he needs a spell. Chol stays in as a follower around the ground as Soldo can't play this role.
If Sheds isn't right then Dimma has form in bringing guys in who are playing against their old sides like Weller.

Yes lets drop the quick & agile ruckmen for the slow lumbering lump of a ruckman on the quickest ground in the country. :shh

Balta was non-competitive against the Crows' young ruck O'Brien and didn't use his athleticism in the air nor at ground level. The week before he was non-competitive as a key back. His future potential is so far above Soldo it isn't funny but Noah's been poor in recent weeks. Needs a spell. We've been smashed in the guts. No point worrying about speed on the outside at Docklands if we can't win the footy in the first place. Butler is quick too but this year he can't get his hands on the pill so he's been a passenger.

If you think Balta’s been poor the last couple of weeks, what word would you use to describe Garthwaite’s last 3 weeks?... Non-competitive is way too kind.
Embarrassing is a word I would use.
But let’s keep playing him...
-
Ins- Bolton, Townsend, Edwards, Astbury, CCJ, Cotchin if fit, Lambert if fit.
I would like to see Chol, Bolta and CCJ all play in the same side against St. Kilda.
All 3 can play forward and take a decent grab as well as rotate through the ruck.
Balta can even start in the middle as an onballer with one of the other two in the ruck.
My outs were- Higgins, Butler, Garthwaite, Menadue, Houli the brave, and Bellis.

Both the Age & Herald-Sun saying six back:

Tigers could hit a six for Saints clash
Daniel Cherny
The Age
24 June 2019
Beleaguered Richmond could regain as many as six players including captain Trent Cotchin for Sunday's date with St Kilda, but a training session on Tuesday will help decide just how many reinforcements are available.
After being on the end of a charmed run for the best part of two years, the Tigers have been ravaged by injuries almost from the get-go this season. The situation reached almost ridiculous proportions ahead of the round 13 game against Adelaide, a match that Richmond entered without eight of their best 22.
The Tigers were gallant against the Crows at Adelaide Oval but still fell to their third consecutive loss, and have subsequently tumbled out of the top eight following their round 14 bye, leaving Richmond with an uphill battle to make the top four and challenge for a second premiership in three seasons.
However it appears that the worst is finally over.
David Astbury, Shane Edwards and Cotchin (all hamstring injuries) are likely to be in the selection mix, while Kane Lambert (Achilles), Jayden Short (elbow) and Ivan Soldo (illness) could also return.
"They're all in some sort of contention," Richmond football chief Neil Balme told The Age on Monday.
Balme added that all would need to get through training early in the week before being considered.
Short is the longest-term absentee of that group, having not played since his elbow was dislocated in gruesome fashion during the round three loss to Greater Western Sydney. Because of his extended period on the sidelines, the important rebounding defender might be given a stint in the VFL before returning to the senior side.
Lambert hasn't played since the round nine win against Hawthorn, but is more likely to come straight back in.
Soldo's opening has only come because of an adductor injury to No.1 ruckman Toby Nankervis, sustained in the round eight win over Fremantle in Perth.
But due to suspension and illness, Soldo has been in and out of the team in recent weeks after initially expecting an extended run of games when Nankervis went down.
Soldo's return will be welcomed by the Tigers, who fielded inexperienced pair Noah Balta and Mabior Chol in the ruck against the Crows, with the youngsters copping a hiding from Adelaide big man Reilly O'Brien.
Connor Menadue, Nathan Broad, Dan Butler and Jack Higgins were some of the other Tigers who struggled against Adelaide and loom as potential omissions for the match against the Saints.
Sunday's clash at Marvel Stadium is "Maddie's Match", which raises funds for bone marrow failure research. Richmond comfortably won the corresponding game last year.

Injury crisis over? Six Tigers could return
Jon Ralph,
Herald Sun
June 24, 2019 4:19pm
Richmond could recall as many as six first-choice players against St Kilda as it attempts to make a late charge for premiership glory.
The Tigers have been savaged by injury but come off the bye believing they can play their best football in a nine-week surge.
Trent Cotchin, Shane Edwards and David Astbury will all try to prove they have overcome hamstring issues at the club’s Tuesday main training session.
Ivan Soldo will be ready after missing the loss to Adelaide through illness, and Kane Lambert (achilles) and Jayden Short (elbow) are also likely to be available.
Richmond football boss Neil Balme said the club wouldn’t rule out making as many as six changes if all players proved their fitness.
But to have so many players available after months of injuries is a good sign even if some end up several days short of playing against the Saints.
Jack Riewoldt hopes to play in two weeks but will not be rushed given the nature of his PCL injury.
“We were pretty confident both Cotch and Edwards would only miss one game, but they both have to train,” Balme said.
“Astbury should be fine. We are reasonably confident with those guys, but we won’t know until they train. Soldo was sick and will be available and Short and Lambert have both been out for a reasonable amount of time.
“We will pick our best side. We will throw them all up on the board and it depends how they train.”
Mabior Chol showed some exciting glimpses coming in for Soldo in the loss to Adelaide but the Tigers were still smashed in the ruck by Reilly O’Brien.
Cotchin’s likely availability is a major boost given there were worries about whether he had suffered a third hamstring tear.
He missed the Adelaide clash after pulling up tight but will have had a 23-day break since the Round 12 game against Geelong.
Jack Higgins will come under pressure to hold his spot after another fumbly display against the Crows. Patrick Naish has put in two strong games after debuting against Geelong.

In the Mix - Round 15
Sarah Black
afl.com.au
25 June 2019
RICHMOND
Get them in: A host of top-tier players – Trent Cotchin, Shane Edwards, David Astbury, Ivan Soldo and possibly Kane Lambert – are good chances to return this week, depending on whether they get through training. The VFL team had a bye in line with the AFL side, but Shai Bolton was in good form during the side's last game.
Under the pump: After playing every game this year, Jack Higgins may be in line for a run in the VFL after a few quiet performances. Daniel Rioli was subdued for three terms but had a sparky last quarter in the middle, while Connor Menadue falls behind several returning players.
Medical room: A bye round means no additional injuries at Punt Road. Jayden Short is a chance to return after dislocating his elbow in round three, but after a long stint on the sidelines he is more likely to come back through the VFL.
Verdict: Change is coming. Soldo to come in for Mabior Chol, who was lively forward but struggled in the ruck. Ryan Garthwaite to make way for Astbury, while Edwards could take Menadue's spot. Cotchin for Higgins, while Dan Butler could make way for Lambert, if fit.

Cotch on Ch 7 news tonight said he is a certain starter. Hammy stronger than it ever should be [OE: touchwood].
Mark Stevens said we'll have 5 inclusions against the Saints: Cotch, Edwards, Astbury, Lambert and Soldo.
Short will return this weekend via the VFL.
We spent the bye period at a Queensland retreat.
Cotch said the upcoming weeks are a real opportunity.

Cotch went the QLD retreat
Everyone went their separate ways. Though some guys went to Darwin for a few days to fish and hunt

What don’t you like about Short?
He had a cracking year last year.
Top 10 in the B&F from memory in a side that finished top.
Beautiful kick, kicks goals, smart and has genuine speed.
I’m looking forward to seeing him and Sydney Stack off halfback.

When we were up and about at 7-3 I questioned where short fit into the team with stack doing so well and bach and shedda providing the run from the back half. Think bringing short back in will free Edwards to go back to his mid/fwd role where we have severely missed his creativity.
-
Why drop Chol and why cant both Chol and Soldo play.Play Chol as the second tall fwd and he can give Soldo a rest in the ruck.
Most have Garthwaite out myself included but ffs we cant just go with Astbury as the sole KPD. Bite the bullet and play Balta at chb he is the same height as Rance at 194cm but he has some genuine size to him at 100kg.He is exactly what we need to play kpd.

I don’t like Bellis because he is scared 99% of the time and I don’t like Houli because he plays back and cannot defend, and both are overrated IMO.
And Short’s kicking is elite. By far the best kick in our side at the very minimum.
Does anyone else on this forum think his kicking is overrated?

Yes lets drop the quick & agile ruckmen for the slow lumbering lump of a ruckman on the quickest ground in the country. :shh
Balta was non-competitive against the Crows' young ruck O'Brien and didn't use his athleticism in the air nor at ground level. The week before he was non-competitive as a key back. His future potential is so far above Soldo it isn't funny but Noah's been poor in recent weeks. Needs a spell. We've been smashed in the guts. Embarrassing is a word I would use.
But let’s keep playing him...
If we had an alternative 2nd key defender option ready to go then Garth wouldn't be playing. Unfortunately, we don't, so Garth has to play alongside Astbury. St Kilda's forward line is based on talls with Bruce, Membrey and even Parker as their 3rd tall. We can't afford to go short and expect Grimes and Broad to fill in those roles.
Seven changes this week.... :shh
Balta will go back to the twos.... :shh
Chol to get another game..... :shh
The latter two make sense but changing a third of the team would be massive. It would mean Garth will be dropped and we'd be going short in defence or someone like Broad goes out. On top of that it would also mean Dimma is bringing Weller in to play against his old side :P.
Something like this:
In: Cotch, Edwards, Astbury, Lambert, Soldo, Bolton, Weller.
Out: Higgins, Butler, Menadue, Ellis, Balta, Rioli, Garth/Broad.
-
How tall is the Saints Fwd line? Membrey is the only decent bloke up there surely? Grimes to him and Astbury to whoever their big unit is.
I see no way Weller comes in this week.
Changes will surely be: Cotch, Shed, Astbury, Lambert & Bolton in for Higgins, Menadue, Butler, Garthwaite & one more. No idea who that will be, doubt it will be the BEllis as most wish or Rioli as would be deserved...:shh Suppose they'll bring back the lighthouse for Chol or Balta too but I'd rather not see that.
-
Josh Bruce, but he seems to have gone back to being a very B or C grade player. Shadow of the 50+ goal player he was a few years ago.
Membrey the one to watch...
I'm sure Claw was a big advocate for trading him in?

You basing that on the 2 games he’s ever played in September? Was very good against hawthorn and garbage against the pies like everyone else. If we wrote off every player after 1 poor final then we would have been struggling for players after 2013-15.

Wasn't good against the Hawks at all, struggled with the intensity and panicked in a BEllis tribute....:shh

That's 10 hacked kicks up the line instead of releasing the outlet.... :shh
Metres gained, what a wank of a stat. Griffiths used to average 800 metres gained per game and that was from one kick..... :shh :shh
-
Metres gained is an important stat ...in Rugby & Gridiron.... :shh :shh :shh
-
I agree metres gained can be a wildly misleading stat, but metres gained couple with a high disposal efficiency and effective disposals is gold.
It’s a territory game and Richmond more than anyone have had success over the past couple of seasons with a get it forward at every chance game plan.
Not even saying you are necessarily wrong about short but you can’t say he’s a great kick in the regular season and crap come finals based off 2 finals, 1 where he was very good and the other where the whole team was garbage.
