AFL star 'jumped on taxi boot'

AFL premiers West Coast have been rocked by yet another off field drama, with star midfielder Daniel Kerr arrested and charged hours before their NAB Cup opener against Fremantle.

West Australian police have released a statement saying the 23-year old from Kardinya was involved in an incident in the car park of Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital around 11.30pm last night.

The statement said it would be alleged Kerr jumped on the boot of a taxi outside the hospital and broke off the rear aerial.

He then allegedly argued with the taxi driver before leaving. Police later arrested him in nearby Nedlands.

He has been charged with disorderly behaviour in public, and will appear in the Perth Magistrates court on March 1.

Kerr has developed into one of the finest players in the AFL in recent seasons.

The midfielder finished second in the Brownlow Medal count in 2005 and third last year despite being ineligible for the award due to suspension.

He was one of West Coast's best players in last year's premiership victory over Sydney.

But he is also no stranger to bad publicity, having been involved in a brawl with fellow Eagles star Ben Cousins in 2002 in which Cousins broke his arm during post-season celebrations.

West Coast have yet to comment on the latest incident.

If they (Kerr and Cousins) played and delivered a flag for the Tigers I would not give a hoot what they did, within reason.
Damn fine footballers, just a little bit naughty sometimes. They still deliver when it counts.

The Eagles board has fined Kerr the maximum $10,000. They've also said he'll cop another $20,000 and would be stood down without pay if he reoffends within the next 2 years.

I've been listening to SEN today while driving down Mt Martha way and these latest rumours about the Eagles are just unbelievable even if there's a hint of truth behind them. Claims of 75% on the gear  :gobdrop. Either the journo/investigator is telling porkies or the West Coast brand is up the creek.
