Richmond and St Kilda will honour the recent passing of Madeleine Riewoldt, with the upcoming Round 16 match between the clubs dubbed ‘Maddie’s Match’.
Madeleine’s brother, Saints’ captain Nick Riewoldt, along with Tigers’ spearhead Jack Riewoldt (Madeleine’s cousin), helped launch the concept today at Etihad Stadium.
Maddie’s Match is the first major fundraiser of ‘Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision’, which has been established to help adolescents and young adults suffering from Bone Marrow Failure Syndromes through research and providing support into prevention and treatments, with an aim to find a cure.
For the Round 16 match between Richmond and St Kilda on Sunday, July 19, $5 from every ticket purchased will to go towards Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision.
Both clubs will wear guernseys emblazoned with the Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision logo, and #fightlikemaddie.
Richmond, St Kilda and the AFL are calling on all footy fans to support Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision, attend the match and wear purple – Maddie’s favourite colour.

Saw the two Riewoldts on AFL 360 last night promoting this game. Both spoke really well and it was extremely sad hearing about Maddie.
Congratulations to both clubs for their efforts to raise money for a great cause. Makes me proud of our club doing things like this.

ROUND 16
St KILDA vs RICHMOND
Date: Sunday twilight, July 19, 2015
Time: 4:40 pm AEST
Venue: Etihad Stadium
http://www.afl.com.au/match-centre/2015/16/stk-v-rich
Gamestyles:
RICHMOND
(Bronze medal for ball movement.)
Like Guns N’ Roses sang, it’s all about a little patience. Now holding the ball and taking their time with its ball transition. Without the ball the Tigers rush to get numbers back.
ST KILDA
(Silver medal for pressure differential.)
Relishes applying pressure, but it’s what the Saints do after forcing a mistake that’s propelling this emerging group. The Saints only rank 10th for forward-half turnovers created, but they’ve scored from 41 per cent of these turnovers — ranked No.1.

Geez just read the losing Maddie article in the sun, must say there was a tear. Lives is just so so horrible sometimes :(
Reckon the saints are gunna be all guns blazing, we better be ready to match them.
Wear the storm top under my tigers jumper I think.

Saints coming off a 35 pt loss to the Giants today. They also lost Nick Riewoldt, who went off with a sore calf and maybe in doubt for our game, while their ruckman Billy Longer was reported.

Reckon Nick might play even with a leg missing next week, considering its his sister this game is honouring
-
Saints grand final
But don't worry - its big boy month
-
They will run all over us like the doggies ...
-
There will be no excuses and nowhere to hide for the players if we lose this. There is no losing this game and that's it.
Don't worry about Nick being fired up, remember how close Jack was to her too. Even though Nick is her brother expect the very best of Jack too.

Sir Alec. Will pants npick as per usual
Bruce will kick 9 on Chaplin
The young, energetic saints will run over our plodders. Or so I fear
-
Well we haven't played dry weather footy in 3 weeks now so the roof should be shut and this will be our chance to show our run and carry, leading and kicking for goal and really our skills. If we blow it, well...where are we at?
-
Lose Vickery and Edwards, regain Maric, dilemma for selection panel, if we are the real deal we should win this easily

Match preview: Saints v Tigers

SUMMARY
It doesn't seem long ago that the Tigers were being spoken of as a club in crisis, with finals a long shot for Damien Hardwick's men. Since then, they have won seven of their past eight matches and top four has become the new goal. The Tigers’ recent streak of three wins has seen them play less flamboyant football, taking the points in scrappy, contested matches. It has pleased Hardwick. St Kilda, meanwhile, went away from the contested side of the game against Greater Western Sydney and lost as a result. In the inaugural 'Maddie's Match', to support the newly formed Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision, the Saints will be keen to produce a tougher performance to honour captain Nick Riewoldt's sister Madeleine.
WHERE AND WHEN: Etihad Stadium, Sunday, July 19, 4.40pm AEST
PAST FIVE TIMES
R22, 2014, Richmond 15.8 (98) d St Kilda 10.12 (72) at the MCG
R15, 2014, Richmond 18.9 (117) d St Kilda 11.7 (73) at Etihad Stadium
R14, 2013, Richmond 17.17 (119) d St Kilda 8.7 (55) at the MCG
R2, 2013, Richmond 14.15 (99) d St Kilda 12.10 (82) at the MCG
R10, 2012, Richmond 18.13 (121) d St Kilda 16.17 (113) at Etihad Stadium
THE SIX POINTS
1. Jack Riewoldt was the difference between the sides when they last met, booting six goals. He has kicked 41 goals in just 11 games against the Saints, with five bags of six or more goals.
2. St Kilda has been strong for marks inside 50 in 2015, averaging 13.1 a game (ranked No.4 in the AFL). Josh Bruce is ranked No.2 in the League with 3.36 a game.
3. Despite their recent impressive form, the Tigers are ranked No.12 in the AFL for insides 50s this season, averaging 49.7 a game. The Saints are ranked No.7 with 52.2 a game.
4. In St Kilda’s favour is its record against Richmond at Etihad Stadium, with 11 wins from 16 contests. The Tigers, however, have won the past two.
5. Richmond remains the umpires' favourite in 2015, ranked No.1 for free kicks with a total of 329, 55 ahead of the next team. Anthony Miles and Trent Cotchin are both ranked in the top five.
6. Jack Riewoldt has overtaken Shane Edwards as Richmond's No.1 player in the Official AFL Player Ratings. He has jumped to No.37 overall, climbing from No.79 at the end of last season.
IT'S A BIG WEEK FOR …
Nick Riewoldt. This match will hold a special place in the St Kilda skipper's heart. He is committed to realising his younger sister Madeleine’s vision after her passing earlier this year. Riewoldt suffered a minor calf injury in last week’s loss to Greater Western Sydney and will be racing the clock to be fit. Madeleine’s cousin Jack will also be playing in what is sure to be an emotional afternoon at Etihad Stadium.
PREDICTION: Richmond by 22 points

Tigers spearhead Jack Riewoldt hopes his cousin is fit for this weekend, regardless of the lift it will give the Saints.
"It would be fantastic for obviously the Saints for starters, but for the vision and the effort we've put into that, I would love to see him out there," he said.
Fans attending 'Maddie's Match' are asked to wear a touch of purple, Maddie's favourite colour, and $5 from every adult ticket sold will be donated to MRV.
Exclusive #FightLikeMaddie merchandise will be on sale at the Saints' Locker Outlets on the Etihad Stadium footbridge and inside gates three, five and seven, while match-worn guernseys and purple 'Budgy Smugglers' will be auctioned at mrv.org.au (http://mrv.org.au).

Clash jumper against the Saints now? WTF is the world coming to?
I remember watching games v St Kilda at Moorabbin - every player would be head to toe in mud and I could still tell the teams apart for the simple reason that yellow and red/white is enough to distinguish the black in both jumpers.
-
What happens if they play pick1 paddy?
Bruce, nick, paddy

Hot:
Shane Savage has climbed the overall standings from 261st to 135th this season.
Jack Riewoldt has climbed the overall standings from 58th to 37th in the past month.
Not:
Sean Dempster has averaged just 7.4 points this season – a drop of 27 per cent on last year.
Alex Rance has averaged just 7.2 points against St Kilda – his worst output against any club.

Why don't u give a list of everyone his played on.
If you look at the Coleman. Very few players have kicked more 30 or 25 this season.
Of this small number, many as are small or mid forwards.

Tippett gave Chaplin a "bath"? You're kidding. Sorry Bents but you clear dislike for the bloke has you posting things that are just not true. Tippett was typical Tippett against the Tigers, did very little.
As for Cam McCArthy - again your blind dislike for a player has you posting nonsense. Jake Batchelor as on McCarthy for the vast majority of that game and was his direct opponent. McCarthy had no impact on that game and to suggest otherwise is as I said nonsense

Facts are Chaplin plays the role given to him by the coaches. Whether I agree with that role is not the issue. He is doing week after week exactly what is expected of him
Grigg - I've never been a fan but again the facts are he is currently having his best season playing his role. He has been good this year.
Difference between you and me is that I may not like a player but I will give them credit when credit is due. For the players you clearly don't like you won't budge even when they are going well
As for Newman he shouldn't be playing so there is no argument there.
-
I can't stand Chaplin, he's slow, he can't jump, terrible one-on-one, he fumbles the ball etc. but he reads the play well, gives Rance the help he needs & is the voice of the coach in the back half. Rance needs him there and until we find someone else we must put up with him.
Grigg has been very good this year but will he be next year?

lol the eel like squirming never ceases to amuse me.
if the bloke who is 4th on our list for average clearances is the glaring weakness, what does that say about those below him on the list?

squirm squirm flip flop wtf?
how many tears in a bottle of gin?

Let's get serious here.
We need atleast a 10 goal win this week to keep our percentage well ahead of the throng of teams just below us especially considering the next couple of games coming up.
Eat 'Em Alive! :gotigers
-
I'm nervous as hell about this game.....feel like we are due to drop one.
Worried about Maric and Hammer playing forward.
We are going to miss Edwards .
Tigers must keep winning the winnable games to play finals.
-
RFC do not play percentage football.
-
I'm concerned. Feel too stretched bringing in hacks against a genuine hungry side
-
RFC do not play percentage football.
It's a shame we aren't ruthless because we could really cash in on Sydney playing crap right now and next week they have to travel to Perth to play WestCoke eagles that like to bury opposition when they get the opportunity.
If we want top four you've got to take it.
-
Win this and we are 2 games inside the top 8 plus percentage.
-
Wonderful day for footy. We're gonna thrash the saints.

Exactly how I feel. I really don't like The double ruckman in today's football. Have a bad feeling today that we will be to slow

Think Maric, Lennon and McDonough are hacks?

Gordon the sub
Thank god he isn't playing a full game and at a minimum one of Donuts or Lennon will get a full gig :clapping

McDonough I don't rate. Maric is out of form, not a hack per se but his impact on todays game I'm expecting not much. Lennon I don't think he'll make it but glad he is getting game time to find out for sure.

Gordon the sub.
NO LATE CHANGES
FINAL INTERCHANGES
St Kilda: Eli Templeton, Shane Savage, Farren Ray

Richmond: Chris Newman, Dylan Grimes, Shaun Grigg

Good to see Lennon and mcdonough starting. High expectation for them today
-
Another game where it's more about attitude above the shoulders and bringing the required high pressure and intensity from a Tigers' perspective.
Will it be another first quarter of sleep time? :banghead.
-
Rance on Bruce.
Chaplin on Nick.R
Fisher on Jack.R
-
Terrible kick forward by Batch and then slack defence allows then an easy goal on the rebound to the Saints :banghead.

Ivan 3rd man down to Miles and Jack takes a great mark. Stuffs it up not taking the set shot but we keep possession and Grigg has a ping but it's claimed touched on review.

We should be a mile in front!
Yep. Haven't taken our chances. 4 misses (3 behinds + stuff up)
-
Lucky they've missed a few too in the last few minutes. 4 straght behinds to them.
Our decision making has been terrible :banghead.
15 - 16

We will get spanked of we keep playing like this.
-
Tackles: 9 - 20 ::)

poohouse Richmond
-
Worst qtr of the year. If people think Batch is the way forward we are stuffed!!
We look lazy as hell and our entire plan has fallen apart.
-
Think saints will run out of legs and we will win another ugly game. Play like this against Hawks and we'll go down by 100+.
-
Thank gawd for the siren.
Quarter time
Richmond 2.3-15
St Kilda 2.5-17
Goals: Deledio, Vlastuin
Didn't put the goals on the board to put some scoreboard pressure when we had the momentum early and then got spanked in the last 7 mins. Lucky they missed 5 shots.
All up another crap first quarter :banghead.
-
Disposal decision making and efficiency pretty abysmal although that's nothing new in the last few weeks. Just seem to over handle the ball, Dusty again chipping inside 50 when he should take it on.
-
Problem is we're being forced to play like this.
Saints are flooding big time, when we get the ball on our own terms we score.
I agree, the saints will run out of legs and the game will open up.
Tigers by 40 points.
-
Spot on, Lozza.
Think saints will run out of legs and we will win another ugly game. Play like this against Hawks and we'll go down by 100+.
We play with a different attitude when we play top sides as we have nothing to lose. Against bottom sides we are expected to beat, we freeze up, overuse the footy and dish out this crap.
-
1 mark inside 50... :help

1 mark from 11 fwd entries

Our defending today behind the ball from stoppages defensive side of centre has been terrible. They get a clearance and score virtually every time :banghead.
-
Getting dominated around the ball. Saints first use every time
-
Lucky there. McIntosh stuffed up his kick but the Saint player turned it over badly and Jack gets it to Newy who kicks it long to nobody forward and out of bounds for a throw-in. Jack again clever on the boundary centres to Lambert. Need this to stop the Saints' momentum and he kicks it :gotigers.

Are doing enough but really it's a comedy of errors out there. Certainly not out of the textbooks, been lucky our turnovers haven't hurt us more, main reason is the Saints turnovers are worst.
-
Hampson doing well again.
Miles ahead of Maric.
Jack, Griff, Vick forward Hampson ruck is the way to go
-
Despite limited impact on the scoreboard with back to back behinds, Hampson is having an impact in the ruck in the first half, leading hitouts across all players with 14, six to advantage.
http://www.afl.com.au/match-centre/2015/16/stk-v-rich
He's holding his marks the last few weeks. If only he could kick for goal :-\.

x2.
Despite dominating the hitouts, we are still getting smashed in the clearances by the Saints :P.
At least that quarter, we nailed our chances and so put on some scoreboard pressure. Dominated that quarter aside for that 5 min period after we got out to a 3 goal lead. Lambert's goal against the run of play turned the momentum back our way.
-
Big boys would be up by 10 goals. We are just an older teenage sister at this stage.
-
Dustin Martin was very busy in that first half, accumulating a game high 18 disposals at 83 per cent efficiency. Martin has provided plenty of outside run with 14 first half uncontested possessions, an equal match high.

Flossy to Chaplin. Goes long to Hampson but over him. McDonough gathers but snaps a point.

It's that sort of crap where we stuff ourselves up. Too unselfish trying to go that one needless extra possession inside 50.
A couple of ordinary possies by Cotch too in the two minutes.
Anyway, we get it back and Jack is paid the free. It should in the goalsquare but the ump pushes him around. He kicks it anyway :gotigers

Not sure yet who's off.
-
Ffs is this for real or what. We have stopped dead!
-
McDonough subbed off.
Some soft efforts out there this quarter. They want it more.
86 - 54
11 mins
This qtr:
Possies: 18 - 43
In 50s: 2 - 8
Pathetic.
-
Ffs is this for real or what. We have stopped dead!
It's above the shoulders. We came out of the 3/4 huddle thinking the job was done.
-
That's 4 to them :banghead
86 - 60
-
:banghead
-
Talk about contending for a flag. You can't play 20 mins of footy and expect to win too many games. Won't win a final in this form. Very lazy this quarter. Have to maintain standards. Absolutely pathetic quarter
-
This is so typical Richmond, make it close before they start working hard again.
-
Now where are our leaders to show some intensity at the contest?
-
Rance in defence to Lennon to Lids to Dusty in the centre. Long kick inside 50. Jack to Ivan but it's touched.
87 - 60
-
Now where are our leaders to show some intensity at the contest?
Lol the leaders have been good all day
The spuds are spudding it up
-
:banghead
That last goal to them was a simple switch to the fat side for them. Just lazy not spreading across defensively.
-
Another one.
This mob never lets you relax, just as u start to think we'll get the swans on percentage we go to sleep, 5 goals to nil ffs
Pathetic
-
Now where are our leaders to show some intensity at the contest?
Lol the leaders have been good all day
The spuds are spudding it up
Not this quarter. We're getting smashed all over the ground.
-
How embarrassment.

Cotch
Ranc
Lids
Jack
Not superman
What about the rest do something too
-
Even we get possession via a mark we just aren't controlling possession. Just a long bomb in hope.
-
stuffing useless from 3/4 time..
Have we kicked a stuffing goal?
-
Lids to Jack and it's a free. Misses from 40 :scream.
Rich 88
St K 66
22 mins Q4
-
Lambert taken high and no free? ::)
-
Rance taken high no free ::)
Umps now helping the Saints.
-
4:30 mins to go.
-
Hooray. Lids paid a free for a trip.
Playing keepings off now.
-
We finally get it forward via Gordon. Miles with a set shot. misses.
Rich 89
St K 72
1:53 to go
-
Gordon causes holes in the wall
-
Still no holding the ball against St Kilda.
1:25 to go.
-
Via Gordon's pathetic handball, what a spud that guy is
This has been a bitterly disappointing final qtr, disgraceful actually when we're trying to manoeuvre for a top 4 spot

Wtf was that marking effort Gordon
:huh
-
Saint miss.
89 - 73
39 secs to go.
-
Siren.
Not happy but we won.
-
How the hell did Hampson not get a free at the end there buggers me after they gave one the other way in the exact same spot only a minute earlier.
-
Well boys the win is the important thing. Let's hope that's it for this ugly
Footy because we have some stuffin big tough games
Coming up
-
And the commentators just shrug it off, I don't often take notice of the commentators but eff me Eddie and the team were a stuffing joke.
-
really needed the percentage boost but at least the 4 points are in the bag. I hope to dear god there's no nap time next week or we are getting absolutely flogged
-
The game shows we lack pace badly, also showed weak mentally. Should have iced the game although history would have told everyone not to expect a huge win given we were so far ahead at three quarter time.
-
And the commentators just shrug it off, I don't often take notice of the commentators but eff me Eddie and the team were a stuffing joke.
Eddie was getting a chub towards the end there.
-
Final Score
Richmond 2.3 8.6 13.8 13.11-89
St Kilda 2.5 3.8 4.10 10.13-73
Goals: Deledio 3, Lennon 3, Riewoldt 2, Newman, Grigg, Vlastuin, Lambert, Maric
Ordinary first quarter; too good in the 2nd & 3rd, and then went to sleep in the last thinking the game was won at 3/4 time. Time for another Dimma spray.
-
This is why we are not top 4 side yet. Top 4 side would have won by 10 gioals plus. :banghead
-
Very unprofessional last 30 minutes. Im really disappointed and this is the first time in 2 months that I have written it. At the very least we needed to break even in the last quarter. Defensively we went right off our game.
-
I like Hamosons last fortnight.
I actually think it can build. Not much but some.
-
Today is really showed that Maric and Hampson can not ever play in the same team. We missed Griff and Ty today as that kick down the line contested marking option.
-
We missed Titch
-
Does anyone know whether Dimma took them behind closed doors after the game, needed a really good spray, I suppose it gives him plenty to work on for next week.
-
Maric was horrible. Immobile. Couldn't take a mark. And Hampson is far superior in the ruck.
Gordon stank. McDonough stank.
Missed Griff/Ty, and Titch.
-
bah they put the cue back in the rack and cruised it in early, they are in for some rough games and we can't afford more injuries and suspensions, we don't have the depth to cover them. Saints went balls out because they had nothing to lose by doing so, and were looking at humiliating Nick with a flogging.
-
How the hell did Hampson not get a free at the end there buggers me after they gave one the other way in the exact same spot only a minute earlier.
Umpires were ridiculous for it all
But hampson was at the was yet another pee poor call
-
We missed Titch
Big time
Slow
-
squirm squirm flip flop wtf?
how many tears in a bottle of gin?
Vs. Sydney chaplin feel over for no reason resulting in a goal. He also managed to give weak contests allowing tippet to dominant key part a of the last quarter. Almost undoing rance Herculaneum effort making buddy cry.
Vs gws bachelor beat the 19 year old. He only got off the chain when Chaplin went on him towards the end.
My memory is not great good enough to remember every minute of evert game but he's a spud. Hence he wouldn't get a gig in any half decent side. Rance will get even better with a proper kpp partner
-
how many angels on a pin?
-
I doubt its possible astbury could be more useless
-
how many cabs in new york city?
-
How many times did he attemo to stand in front of nick reiwokdt before he started leading
-
how many notes in a saxmaphone?
-
Its like u were born for this
-
paul kellly, actually
-
wonder if i have to provide a link :huh3
-
U know the rules
-
If we had to drop a ruckman and I think we do.. Who do we drop ? Hampson has been better for mine. Never thought I'd say that haha. Kills me to say but maric just looks done and maybe it's taken a more athletic ruckman like Hampson for us to see that. Keeping in mind he had 4 weeks off so still has more fitness to gain
-
We won, that's about the only thing you can say
The last qtr was the most pathetic effort of the season, just disgraceful
Very happy with lennon, showed a fair bit.
And Ox is spot on, we really missed Titch Edwards
-
Not happy.

Played a half of footy....again.
-
Who played on Weller? Didn't seem like he had an opponent at times.
-
It was a win & thats all that matters. Why waste your energy in the last quarter when the game was over. Save it for next week & don't get injured. l'm not concerned about the real Richmond turning up next week. Pencil in another win over Freo.
:gotigers :clapping

We tend to play to level of our opponent. Will be interesting to see how we go next week. Will need another good start :cheers
-
Will also need better fwd structure.

Just watched the video of the team song. I'm surprised they didn't decide not to sing the line; "we never weaken 'til the final siren's gone." >:(

Rance (again :thumbsup ) and Lids (wing) made the AFL website's Team of the Week.
ALEX RANCE (Richmond) - His rebounding influence was less pronounced than recent weeks, but Rance did his job defensively as well as ever, keeping Josh Bruce to one goal and one mark.
BRETT DELEDIO (Richmond)- Had a massive 15 score involvements against St Kilda and was voted best on ground, receiving the Ian Stewart Medal. Finished with 28 possessions and three goals.

Sorry almighty ones.

Hawks showing tonight how a professional team goes in for the kill. No last quarter fadeouts after the game is pretty much over at half time.

Yep they've picked up over 10% tonight, how that would have been nice last week
