I think this game is ours for the taking.
We have the wood on them at the G and with Goodes more than likely missing, this game is ours.
I really don't think they will risk Goodes
A win would set up a 80k plus crowd against the Bummers

They are hardly a big scalp.
Sure they have only lost one game but they have only beaten Hawthorn.
and we've beaten them the last two times at the G and gone close at the Scg.
Big scalp imo is, Geelong, Carlton, West Coast, Hawthorn, Collingwood and we must break our hoodoo against Saints and Dogs this year.

Goodes out for 6 weeks
-
We need to win as many as possible before our bye to give hope of a finals birth
Having said that I think we can win this, but sydney won't be as easy to beat as our last encounter.
In regards to a big scalp would agree on what's been said previously although even hawthorn have looked vunerable at times Carlton is the one which would give so much belief to the players and secondly so much relief for the fans.

Sydney are a better team this year due to their improved midfield and rucks. Kennedy and Jack are two which have improved their contested ball output this year which has made them number one in that statistic as a result. Our midfield is up to the challenge. We can beat Sydney this year because we will win the midfield duel. Foley did a great job tagging this week perhaps he can do the same blanket role on Kennedy?

Mumford won't be back will he? Maric should smash Seaby.

may not be a big scalp, but would be a good scalp, and not an easy one either.

Yep confirmed - a tear in his left quad.

It would be a good scalp. Our midfield and defence need to lift to have any chance against Sydney. Rance and Batchelor did not have good games against Port. Batchelor looked really off the boil. Even Houli didn't have a great game against port. Tuck was great against port and he will have to do the same against Kennedy and Jack. Martin and Cotchin had relatively quiet games against Port by the high standards they have set. If Maric plays like he did against Port hopefully we can thump them
-

Yep outside of the top 4 or 5 Carlton Collingwood Geelong West Coast Hawthorn the Swans and the Crows would be the most difficult to knock off from the second best third of teams in the competition.
Agree that we can beat them but it will not be easy although the fact the game is at the G and we have beaten them in the last two there. :thumbsup

Top of the ladder versus 12th.
Undefeated versus 2 from 4.
Quality versus improving.
Consistent versus fighting hard.
I hope we win.
But I won't be backing Richmond on your recommendation Dan.

I'm backing us to win this.
I remember a similar game when Judd was missing and we got smashed but the Blues, but now theres no Goodes, plus we are a different side and the Swans hate the G.
Just have to contain the Ben Mcglynn's of this world who might bop up and kick 5

at 1.65 the win i wouldnt be putting money on us either, but obviously quite a few have
it is a very winnable game and while it wont be the end of the world, i will be disappointed if we don't.
The bummers are a tougher proposition, even allowing for sydney wanting redemption after losing this week.

I reckon the Swans are tougher than the bums al.
The bums are do not have the disciplines the Swans have and the bums have less substance than the Swans IMHO. Bums are flashy and downhill skiers have not really been tested this year so far.
Sunday we may find out a thing or two about them.
I still agree with you that the Swans are beatable by us and would be disappointed if we didn't get the win on Saturday.

One day soon we are going to claim a big scalp.
I believe it may be next weekend.
They are hardly a big scalp.

Theyre second on the ladder, umm err, thats a big scalp :lol

They beat Hawthorn and full credit to them for doing that but we would have beaten the other teams that they had wins against aswell bar hawthorn and we probably would have got a win against Adelaide..
They have had one hard game so far and they won it.
I think we are a better side than the swans.

Hey, spend the weekend at Coburg?
No mate, spent yesterday 20km east of Cape Moreton killing a few fish for our long weekend feast.
Managed to catch a replay while filling my guts with Snapper and Pearl Perch....and a few cold beers....in 25 degree comfort.
How did you spend you cold and miserable Melbourne Sunday?
At home in front of the heater I suppose..........instead of SUPPORTING the Tiger players at Coburg.

They haven't even played any of the sides we've played except for port.
I am expecting a win to the tune of 30-40 points without Goodes and Mummy and will be devo if we drop it as we have beat them when we were crapier.

I couldn't convince my fisho mate that it would be a quiet day, but it was pleasant out on the water on his boat, none the less.

Tigers get Goodes news with star out
Martin Blake
The Age
May 8, 2012
RICHMOND has just won the footballing equivalent of the lottery. On the eve of an important game against the third-placed Swans, Sydney's talisman Adam Goodes will miss because of injury.
Scans revealed yesterday that Goodes has a tear, high on his quadriceps, which caused him to hobble from the field in the opening minutes of the final quarter of Sydney's loss to Adelaide at the SCG on Saturday night.
''He will probably be out for about six weeks. It's hard to predict …,'' Swans coach John Longmire said. '' 'Goodesy' normally recovers really well, but with this injury we have to be careful not to push him too hard even when he's feeling well.
''We know how important Adam Goodes is for us, so we won't be putting him at risk any more than what we need to.''
Brad Scott, the North Melbourne coach, did not bother disguising his schadenfreude when Goodes was suspended for the Swans' match against the Kangaroos in round four. ''It shortened our match committee [meeting] by about an hour this morning,'' Scott said at the time.
While no such pronouncements have yet come out of Punt Road, they may be quietly wondering about karma today (although for perspective, it is worth remembering North lost to Sydney).
Goodes has played some huge games against Richmond, as he has against all teams. As recently as 2009 he was best afield in a game against the Tigers. Needless to say he has been Sydney's best player and match winner for more than a decade.
But Richmond, which once had a major problem with the Swans, losing eight straight games from 2007-2010, has put itself back in that particular contest, starting with a win at the MCG in 2010 when Goodes was contained. The Tigers repeated that home win in round 21 last year with Goodes kept to 16 disposals, winning by seven goals. Squeezed between those two Richmond wins the Swans beat the Tigers at the SCG last year by 10 points.
How important is Goodes to Sydney? By popular consensus he is the main man, yet it has been difficult to judge because he so rarely misses any football. He has an incredible record of durability matched only by Brad Johnson in recent years; it is possible the length of his absence from this injury will double his career tally of missed games.
In the seven games he has missed in a 14-season career, Sydney has won four and lost three.
Most recently, the Swans beat the Kangaroos without him in round four. When he missed three games in the 2008 season, the Swans went 1-2, but they were not a great side then.
Perhaps more importantly the Swans are coming back to the MCG where their recent record is terrible.
In Sydney's last 14 games at the mecca of Australian football, it has won one, drawn one and lost 12. It has not managed a win there in the last eight starts.
Richmond will never get a better chance to get itself back in the finals race.
As for Sydney, it confronts Richmond, Melbourne, St Kilda, the Western Bulldogs and Essendon in the five matches before the bye, with two of those at the SCG and three in Melbourne.
It has Trent Dennis-Lane, Jesse White and Mitch Morton, who kicked 10 goals in his most recent reserves game, as potential replacements, and there are winnable games in that bunch.
But it is going to be a tough road.

Preview: Richmond v Sydney Swans
By Paul Daffey and James Dampney
Tue 08 May, 2012
WHERE AND WHEN: MCG, Saturday May 12, 4.40pm
LAST TIME: Richmond 14.15 (99) d Sydney Swans 7.14 (56), round 21, 2011 at MCG
Richmond's trajectory looks to be going up after fighting defeats against two of last season's top four teams, Geelong (10 points) and West Coast (10 points), followed by a victory over Port Adelaide (37). The Tigers have almost a full list to choose from and will be looking to give their season momentum with a victory over one of this season's top-four teams. The Swans are coming off their first defeat of the season, against Adelaide (five points), and will be looking to resume their dominance around the packs after suffering a rare defeat in that area against the Crows. In another rare event, Swans captain Adam Goodes will miss the match though injury after straining a quad.
THE FOUR POINTS
RICHMOND
1. Daniel Jackson has missed seven games through suspension in the past three seasons, most recently the victory over Port Adelaide on Sunday. He'll get plenty of chance to atone on Saturday when he tries to stop Sydney Swans midfielder Josh Kennedy, arguably the in-form player in the competition. Kennedy had 11 clearances against the Crows last weekend. Jackson will need to wear him tight.
2. Jack Riewoldt told a press conference during the week that he's not been injured; he's just been out of form. He said he needs to concentrate on defensive acts ands the goals will follow. Riewoldt showed glimpses of his best when he kicked four goals against the Power. Significantly, he played deeper than in previous matches, so it'll be interesting to see whether coach Damian Hardwick restores him to the upfield role that he played early in the early rounds.
3. The Swans have had a distinct edge over Richmond in recent seasons, winning nine of the 11 matches since 2006 including a stretch of eight straight from 2007 to 2010. The two teams split the games last season; the Swans won by 10 points in round 12 and Richmond won by 43 points in round 21. The Tigers' victory late last season was described as an upset. It'd be less of an upset this time around.
4. Trent Cotchin, with only 18 disposals, was relatively down during last weekend's victory over Port Adelaide. His previous tallies, starting in round one, were 27, 26, 22, 24 and 29. The odds are that he'll lift this week, and he'll need to do so if the Tigers are to beat the third-placed Swans.
SYDNEY SWANS
1. How will the Swans cope knowing they will be without Adam Goodes for an extended period? For a man who has missed seven games in 14 seasons, a six-game stint out is a veritable chasm the team needs to fill. It will need to be a team effort, with the likes of Sam Reid, Kieren Jack, Luke Parker and Jesse White among those who will need to lift.
2. The Swans need to bounce back from the disappointment of their first loss of the year, snapping their best start to a season since 1986. It is also their first trip to the MCG, which is hardly a happy hunting ground, in 2012. The best result from their past eight trips to the venue is a draw against Melbourne in round one last year. Their most recent victory at the home of football came in round 19, 2009, against the Tigers. How they cope with both issues will be key.
3. Can Mark Seaby continue holding down the No.1 ruck spot? Seaby has been serviceable since replacing the injured Shane Mumford (back) in the side. But this week he comes up against the in-form Ivan Maric and first use of the football will be vital. Seaby and his back-up, likely to be Lewis Roberts-Thomson with possible help from Jesse White, will go a long way towards determining the Swans' fortunes.
4. Which Swan will get the job on Richmond forward Jack Riewoldt? Coach John Longmire's defensive unit had been performing well until the Adelaide game, in which Taylor Walker had a day out, predominantly against Ted Richards. Riewoldt showed some improved form against Port last time out and will need to be kept in check for the Swans to win.
AFL.com.au prediction: Richmond by 16 points

What a relief Goodes is out, he smashed us in our huge loss at the MCG last ye.....
Wait, what?
-
We really have no excuses in this game. Must win this one.
Let's see if the boys are switched on and mentally tough enough because the swannies never lay down.
-
From the AFL website...
Longmire is wary of a Tigers side that he feels has improved immensely this season, particularly defensively.
The Swans also need to overcome a woeful recent record at the MCG, where they have picked up just one draw and seven losses from their last eight matches.
That includes a 43-point defeat against the Tigers in round 21 last year.
"We just haven't played our best footy there," Longmire said.
"If you look at what we served up last year down there (against Richmond), it wouldn't have mattered where we played, we would've got beaten pretty comprehensively because we played really poorly.
"It was evident very early we weren't putting enough pressure on.
"When we get it right, we play our best footy."
John Longmire expects to have an improved Sam Reid at his disposal against Richmond on Saturday.

Sam Reid, McGlynn, Kennedy, Jack all dangers. Need to be really switched on to have any chance
-

Totally agree, good thing is we have been switched on most games this year
-
Sportal's preview is tipping the Swans by 8 points ...
WE THINK:
The Tigers were thrilled to break through for a win after a pair of narrow defeats. Losing to West Coast and Geelong by so little is no shame and Richmond need to capitalise on their improving form against Sydney.
But Hardwick will be concerned by his side's lacklustre performance after half-time against Port Adelaide. Richmond kicked a goal in the first minute of the third quarter against the Power but then failed to add another major for over a quarter. The Tigers cannot afford to surrender for an entire quarter against the Swans on Saturday.
Having seemingly proven their credentials as a premiership contender against Hawthorn a fortnight ago, Sydney gave their critics some ammunition by losing to Adelaide. The Swans failed to beat the Crows in Sydney for the fourth consecutive time, making it 12 defeats in 14 against Adelaide.
If those kinds of streaks are a genuine guide, then the Swans should return to the winners' list against Richmond. Sydney have won nine of their past 11 meetings with the Tigers, although they have lost seven of their past eight games at the MCG.
Sydney will be wary of Reiwoldt's improved performance against the Power, especially after Adelaide key forward Taylor Walker gave Ted Richards a hiding in Round 6. Longmire will most likely rely on his on-ballers to outgun their Richmond opponents as Maric could be too good for the Swans' main ruckman Mark Seaby. A close game is likely and the Tigers have yet to prove they can get the job done when the pressure is on.
Sydney by eight points.

Looking to all the leaders playing well and showing the youngsters they wont accept defeat or a mediocre performance.

Yep, need to and can make real statement with this game, dead right about the leaders standing up too. I want to see a 4 goal, 28 possession game out of Martin too, not beyond him but has to turn the corner this week. Showed a few glimpses last week.

Sigh. Can't get to this one now :(
I always go with my old man, but he can't make this one either (missed the WCE one too :-\ ) because they have to keep his missus in hospital.
With all due respect to dad and his crook partner, but I really need to make some more Tiger mates because if he can't go and my other half can't be stuffed (she's a Blue, don't blame her half the time lol) then I have no one to go with. Looks like I have another date with Fox.

Go by yourself you soft.

LOL ;D
He's actually more upset than me. He moved back down here from Brisbane just last year to see more footy. The bloke bleeds Richmond. He used to run the supporters club in Brisbane. In one year ('99 I think?) he got together with the other supporters clubs up there to put on a family day sort of thing, with stalls, rides, other crap, and get people to buy interstate memberships for their clubs. It was a pretty big hit, but due to the council they couldn't do it the next year. Even that year (remember it's a rugby town) the council kept throwing down things to try and stop it. They ended up saying it couldn't go ahead without a $5000 fee for insurance. After contacting all the clubs for a hand, it was only St. Kilda that came to the call. And for that, when Brisbane representatives came down to the event they were told to bugger off. They in turn told their players not to turn up. But Leppa and a few others came anyway and said "don't tell anyone we're here!" ;D. Leppa volunteered to go into the dunking machine and they made a killing off everyone young and old wanting a shot at putting the big ranga in the drink.
But ending the cool story... he's spewing. Moved here to watch the Tigers and his missus gets crook. She had another operation last week and starts chemo soon, so hopefully there is some light and he'll be able to get to some regular games.

Well, heres the deal, we have to kick four goals lead and then four more to make up for the four free kicks in front of goal they will inevitably get from the maggots (for any contact whatsoever), and the two 50 metre penalties they also conjure up against us as a matter of course.

Richmond v Sydney (Saturday, MCG)
Scott Gullan
From: Herald Sun
OUR TIP: RICHMOND
We're not picking on you Swans fans, but there is a stats alert on your team again this week. Sydney has won only one game and drawn one from its past 14 matches at the MCG. Ouch.
Throw in no Adam Goodes and our man Lewis Roberts-Thompson - remember he was once favourite for the Norm Smith at halftime of a Grand Final - and this has a stench about it for the Swans. In Round 21 last year Richmond smashed Sydney by 43 points at the MCG.
The only concern about this scenario is whether we can trust Richmond. This is the type of game - ie one where everything points to them winning - that it has found a way to lose in recent times, plus the Swans have won eight of their past 10 against the Tigers.
Another feel-good stat for Swans fans - the last time Richmond started favourite against Sydney was in Round 10, 2003. Result: Sydney won by 32 points.

They said the same thing about us before the Melbourne and Port games and we won them both comfortably in the end. Despite the win last weekend, we weren't great last week apart from the 2nd quarter. So there shouldn't be any Tigers getting ahead of themselves.

The MCG is expecting a crowd of 40k. There's a Foxtel Cup curtainraiser before our game too.

Now I'm really going to miss it. Off to the hospital now. Dad's missus has been changed to critical and moved onto life support. I'll chuck on Foxtel to record the game, let's hope they get up.

Bad news mate. I know how you feel though. After years of chemo my partners mum is starting to feel the pinch. Going to the game today but it could all change if she's goes downhill suddenly. Can't compare to life support but it is a day to day prognosis. All the best for you and your family.

All the best, Dwaino.

This game will show how much our player especially our leaders hate losing. Let's hope the eagles and cats loss is still raw and they're still hurting from it.

What is it with the umpires versus Richmond? I will get arrested if I get near one of them stuffing arsehats.
-

AGREE!!!!
GET ELLIS ON AND ATTACK!!!
-
first goal in the 4th quarter will be important. Need the boys to fire up. We looked abit flat that quarter with the swans starting to run off there man and get space.
-
The commentators just showed a view of the Tiger supporters and said they are stunned, i dont think its stunned, its a look of we have seen it happen so many times before, its as simple as that. Lets just hope Hardwick gives them an all time spray because they need something to get the run back in their legs.
-
got to take our chances. missing goals and seeing the enemy go down the other end and score drives me bat poo.
kick straight you bastards

Alittle nervous for a while there. Great win in the end absolutely had to win this one just as we must win next week against the bummers.
Oh were from tigerland.....
:gotigers
-
Griggy is a revelation, I had my doubts bout him last year, thought he was a bit of a plodder, he has been bloody tight as a drum this year. Riewoldt is getting better every game and getting back to his best. The mullet is just what we needed.

We won all the stats too. Grigg as I've said before is the best outside mid we've had in ages.
Cotchin was fantastic as was lids. In fact all our leaders stood up tonight.
Really happy we won.
...and "Floey" had a great game. Best game this year. He's like a "new recruit". :lol

so the reason no one goes near him is because he's soft, not due to his work rate?

you clearly don't go to games. opposition let him get plenty of ball because he does not use it well. had a good game today but that does not change the fact he's soft and gets a poo load of uncontested footy because the opposition allows it. get a clue
:thumbsup
-
This game for me proved something I have thought from the start of the year. The most valuable person for the Richmond Football Club is Matt Hornsby. Show some love.
-
LMAO Cotchin isn't working hard enough. he doesn't get as much outside ball as Grigg
:lol

spot on Al. :thumbsup
he reads the play really well and puts himself in the right positions plus we finally have too many gun mids to worry about now. Grigg can roam free all he wants and it's great to see him punish sides on the scoreboard.
-
and Grigg has lifted his work rate but the opposition like the footy in his hands. although sydney wouldnt be happy with his 3 goals
-
think you'll find the opposition like ball in their own players hands.

Watching on the idiot box, when Sydney went to a tight one-on-one defense, we were caught out trying to break out of the defensive 50. Our defenders looked uncertain of what to do when there wasn't a player free. They looked like they wanted to wait, and wait, and wait until someone worked free, but due to Sydney's tactics, it just wasn't happening and we coughed up a few turnovers.
When Sydney went back to a zone, we didn't have much trouble working through it.
I think we might see other teams try the one-on-one defense on us.
-
Muscles our skills are our downfall at times. Batch a few times turned it over and so did Rance and Tuck kicked it out on the full once also. I think the trick is getting the ball to our better kicks to find the pinpoint target where if the mark isn't taken the ball is contested rather than turned over.
Would love to see Grigg and Houli do some work on the right foot kicking please.
That 50 metre pass by Grimes in the last quarter was a beauty.

Agree with this to an extent, but they had to do something to contain our dominance. Coaching staff will be all over it this week in analysis though you would think.

Yep plus we still have jacko and Shed, which from memory both werent too bad yesterday cant remember any glaring clangers
-
Martin had the shanks disease yesterday. (Two of which resulted in goals for us i think :lol )
-
Grimes was outstanding. His disposal and decision making were very good. One of the main reasons sydney closed in on us was the extra man in defence for them worked and we missed some gettable goals. The first Goal by Grigg was critical in last quarter and gave us much needed confidence. Our decision making at times let us down for instance I can remember Grigg shouting at Rance after Rance took the less safe option in the fourth quarter and it lead to a turnover. Batch seems down on confidence and Dustin's kicking for goal was a bit off. But having said all that Maric was brilliant. Nahas played an okay game and Jack is getting his confidence back. THe goal that was not allowed and the mark to Brett that was not paid were the most disgraceful decisions I have seen in a long time

our skills this yr have been top class
even the top teams make a few skill errors
Yep plus we still have jacko and Shed, which from memory both werent too bad yesterday cant remember any glaring clangers
Jacko had a MASSIVE clanger in the 3rd quarter. Gave away a 50m penalty by doing a rain dance over the mark. The resultant goal was the one that kick-started Sydney's comeback. For the hundredth time, I just can't fathom what it is that Dimma sees in this clown.

just got home from the stinky city & was a good win by the lads. :thumbsup still alot of work to be done so dont go overboard cause we slipped back to doing some ugly things at stages & let them back in when we should have really smashed them. We played better than the scoreboard showed so better times ahead. :gotigers

Agree Tucky.
The first quarter was brilliant modern footy. We smashed the Swans out the centre and our press and forward line pressure held the ball in our forward half. That quarter won us the game. In the 2nd quarter we held the Swans after they lifted after a 1/4 time spray although we became too casual at times with our disposal and turned it over (their first goal came from Batch's poor pass back into the corridor). The 3rd quarter was a repeat of last week. Our pressure across the ground fell away and our half-forward line broke down structurally. Too many times a defender on the rebound out of defensive 50 would look up and see no one upfield leading up or running hard into space on the fat side. When a kick did go forward we were heavily outnumbered hoping someone could pull off a mark against the odds. Grundy's goal midway through the 3rd was about the first time we allowed the Swans to win a clear clearance out of the middle and hit a lead up forward without a Tiger near it. Our midfield and half-forwards pressure and run just stopped. Obviously Dimma must have given the boys a spray at 3/4 time because we pretty much up the intensity again and controlled and then dominated the last quarter which allowed us to run away with the game. We switched off again in junk time trying to maintain possession in the back-half rather than attack which was annoying but I guess we were happy with shut up shop and secure the 5 goal win.
Once we can eliminate the one bad quarter every week we'll really be going places.

How did the Bollywood crap go?

That pass of batches was going to hit it's target on the chest. It was a good intercept as much as a poor pass

Hey OE, looks like The Horse wasn't terribly impressed by the performance of anyone at the Swannies. It kinda fits with the impression that they have no respect for the Tigers. That is, no one at Sydney played even a half decent game on Saturday, and if someone had, they would have beaten us.

LMAO he must have been peeed

In all fairness 29 points did flater them, we were an 8-10 goal better side in general play imo... I cant think of any swans players who comprehensively won their role.
