Not sure why Connors is named on the bench given all the positive reports on him ???.
Let's hope the 18 day break hasn't spoiled Coburg's momentum of wins.
-
Great to see Will Thursfield back in the Burger seniors. Definitely on track to be back with the RFC seniors in the next 3 weeks subjec to form of course :thumbsup
Anyone heading to Coburg on Sunday should check out young Ryan Anderson - very impressive (footy smarts :thumbsup).
Also another one named on the bench Myles Sewell.
I reckon Reiwoldt is a real show to make his debut this week - got to be a massive question mark over Schulz

The way Sarge was moving gingerly at Wednesday training it'd be a incredible recovery if he plays. I'd say Jack will debut :thumbsup.

Woops! :-[
Already been done. The worry is I actually looked first and didn't see it. :help

Coburg Tigers' young forward Jack Riewoldt, who looked a class mover in his last outing against Box Hill, gets another chance to press his claims for inclusion in Richmond's side when he plays against Casey Scorpions at Coburg City Oval tomorrow.'
Casey's line-up includes another promising teenager, Justin Sweeney, who is close to making his debut with AFL affiliate St Kilda.
Coburg has named Kent Kingsley at full-forward for his first game of the VFL season.

Ando is more than just impressive, and I am a big rapt for him. Unlucky not even to get rookied last year.
Super athletic and pace to burn, routinely makes good decisions, isn't afraid to get his hands dirty and is a natural rover.
Plenty of leadership, shame he is short though
-
I was giving Anderson a wrap on here way before the draft. How he couldnt be on our list infront of about 20 blokes is beyond me.
-
A big opportunity today for the RFC blokes to stake a claim for the seniors. Hopefully Jack, Edwards, Connors and Casserly play blinders.
-
i know he is short, very short, but Fortunato Caruso seems to pop up in the bests every week and many speak highly of this kid

theres a problem gentlemen at tigerland, we have got good youngsters who people reckon dont wanna play with us. if thats the case then the question is why are busting a gut at VFL level. These kids are successful kids, they just got challenged by Casey and Riewoldt, Edwards and Meyer just turned the tide.
-
jack meyer and edwards must all be in next week and must all play in their rightful positions, and let them play their natural game
terry throw away your game plan and tell the boys just go out there and play football
seems like Danny Meyer is having a go as well.

A logical person might say that they perform better at Coburg because the standard of their opponent(s) isn't as high, and there is less pressure. Would that make any sense to you?

He was unfairly dropped in the first place. Only allowed 33% of game time, makes it tough.
Coburg will annihilate Tassie. Tasmania is poo and no one likes Creswell. Fact.

no thats not logical, tiv didnt even have an impact in the coburg 2nds last week, what does that say. krak did, he found his level in the coburg 2s, so where is tivs level.
i bet the current coburg team would flog the rfc atm!

Do you expect people to take your opinions seriously when you come out with statements like that?
-
The Coburg players should get a lot of the credit as well as the RFC guys for the win today. It's great for our youngsters development that they can play their natural game at Coburg with the support around them. Problem at Richmond is they can't because that support isn't there.
We need to add class at Richmond. That's why it's pleasing Edwards and Jack had strong games today. Casserly was good as well. Maybe the only criticism is his opponent was one of the best for Casey. We were in control for most of the game so maybe Andy Collins was happy with Cass running off. In any case all 3 have the class to make it at AFL level. A question of workrate and intensity then (see Meyer).
Coburg Tigers: Ronaldson Jackson Riewoldt Shelton Neville Edwards
The commentators didn't mention Jacko much but they praised his work at half-time.

atm (at the moment) the coburg team would beat the tigers . thats is not rubbish its fact. seems like coburg play well and have a gr8 game plan and a team that responds to their coach, the tigers dont!!!
the afl should bring in e relegation system, our current team does not deserve to be in the afl

And then who would you follow?

jack's certainly got the form on the board for a call up to seniors...i would hate it tho for cleve to be dropped.....tho he didn't have a great game against port...but his workrate was there....3 goals in consecutive games against west coast and geelong ought to keep him there...if anythign..drop krakuer for jack....or bring edwards back and save jack for the game after (since i think reading from BF that next week coburg travels to tassie....great for jack to get a game back home)...also it lets edwards and cleve play in their home town against crows
-
Coburg coaches named Trav Ronaldson BOG today.
thought Jack was excellent. Now based on today's effort s I can see the logic on dropping Cleve for Jack. Jack has one thing that Cleve doesn't seem to show enough and that intensity at the contest and intensity when defending - he chases, he tackles and generally works his but off to keep the ball in the attacking 50. At this stage on the things I've listed Cleve is a work in progress.
Liked Connors game - they played him back, forward in the mid field - so I suppose he is what you call an old fashion utility.
Danny Meyer is a interesting one - if Danny showed the commitment and intensity at AFL level that he does at VFL he'd never get dropped.
Edwards has great skill, backs himself all the time - sometimes it comes off other times it doesn't. It's funny how when we see a kid do it we don't care a senior bloke does it and we want them sent to the salt mines in Siberia.
Casserley - always looks so skillful.
Best news of the day - Will thursfiled got through the game. Got better as it went on. :clappingvery pleasing indeed
-
Danny Meyer will be a 10 year nightmare for RFC if he leaves us and goes home. Every time he'll play we'll see what we gave away. A coach who knew how to work him would turn this kid into a star. Theres a story that on draft day one coach told someone in the media that he'd wanted to pick Meyer. That coach was K.Sheedy. Heard that on SEN during last week.

Coburg Tigers resist Scorpions' fight
By Sean Cusick | May 13, 2007
The Age
Coburg has edged out a determined Casey Scorpions outfit by 13 points in a rugged encounter at Coburg City Oval. The Scorpions showed plenty of fight, but appeared to tire in the final quarter as a classy Jack Riewoldt came to the fore in his best VFL performance to date.
The prized Richmond recruit finished with five goals, including the sealer from a mark 35 metres out deep into time-on after the Scorpions had dragged the margin back to seven points.
Kent Kingsley, playing his first senior VFL match since crossing to Richmond, had little impact on the match. He kicked one goal, the result of a holding-the-ball free kick in the goal square, and was outplayed by Max Hudghton for most of the day.
Tigers coach Andy Collins wouldn't be drawn on whether his club was talking up a top-four finish to the home-and-away season. "I don't worry about that . . . we're going well, we're a team that's won four and one, so it's good," he said.
In a further blow to the Casey-St Kilda alignment, two Saints regulars were reported - Raphael Clarke for making forceful contact to an opponent in the reserves, while Andrew McQualter went into the book late in the senior game, charged with striking Coburg's Paul Shelton.

Jumping Jack's flash of brilliance
14 May 2007 Herald-Sun
Geoff Poulter
JACK Riewoldt moved closer to an AFL debut for Richmond with five goals to help Coburg fend off the Casey Scorpions yesterday.
With recruit Kent Kingsley managing just one goal, Riewoldt was the star in the Tigers' 13-point win.
"He is just getting better and better isn't he," Coburg coach Andrew Collins said of Riewoldt, who showed class and looked hungry for the ball.
Kingsley's effort was more workman-like, but Collins said the former Cat was cleary on the improve after a long injury layoff.
"He is getting better, he is very smart," Collins said.
"I don't think we will have him for very long, but while we have got him we might as well utilise him."
The Tigers finally slipped into gear in the last quarter with the aid of a strong breeze to get a grip on fourth position on the ladder with their fourth straight win.
"It was pretty rugged out there," Collins said.
"We knew it was going to be a tough day, hard game.
"We were struggling to find run but to the credit of the boys in the last quarter, in particular, we got a few players come through the lines.
"There was a really strong breeze out there. We were glad we were kicking with it in the last quarter."
Casey defender Max Hudghton played three quarters after long-term injury and looked solid and steady.

Thanks for the report WP :cheers. Being a good winning side is probably the difference for Danny. He can be that finisher type on the back of the grunt work from others (granted it's VFL level).
How far do you think Thursty is away from a RFC game WP?
-
Danny played as a leading forward and did well. You've confused me X but let me say that Danny obvoiously got a rocket last week when he was dropped (and quite rightly too). For the first weeks of the season his intensity at VFL level was crap, got a rocket before ANZAC day and guess what he was close to BOG. Danny should need a rocket every week to play - he is a professional sportsmen. IMO that's Danny's biggest problem - he seems too laid back
Thursfield - started slowly and picked up the tempo of the game as it went on. He is moving really well although he seems to have lsot a bit of weight. I reckon he needs another week minimum at Coburg. The week of the Dreamtime game the VFL have their state game against the WAFL so perhaps dreamtime will be Will's comeback game. I think the plan has always been 3 VFL reserve games followed by 3 senior games and then assess on form

not that confusing really

-
not that confusing really
all i will say is that terry has not learned from his mistakes at the bulldogs
Oki doki then - whatever :-\
-
atm, many tigers fans think we were crazy for getting rid of rodan
wait til meyer leaves or we trade him, he will murder us and become an elite player. it will be worse than never picking pavlich because meyer was in our hands.
imo, the only way to keep him and many other at punt rd is a change of coach cos its clear as day that the coach has lost the players and the next few weeks will prove that.
in saying that , if terry really wants to coach us, he has a lil time to change his ways and earn the respect of teh group and get them playing accordingly
when a team folds as quickly as we have this yr, (and stop using injurries as an excuse) its quite clear that things are not well internally and that the playing group are not responding to the coach
the bombers lost many games last yr, but were conmpetitive, we just collap[se and that only happens when things are not right
where there is smoke there is fire, and a massive bush fire will burn through at punt rd very soon, i can smell it

X to be honest I am getting sick of this imputation that if people don't subscribe to your theories about rfc then they are the fools.
It is actually turning people away from this site and I will become one of them, if I keep being made out an idiot for not believing that we should trade Deledio, sack TW etc etc. I have never been a part of any other forum, and don't want to, but I will go if you keep continuing down that path X, I doubt whether you'd care about that, I'm just letting you know that it is putting people off. I've always enjoyed your posts X, a little bit far out for mine but usually an entertaining read, however last 3 or 4 weeks your writing has been increasingly frustrating to read.
And while I'm at it, the word 'the' is spelt THE c'mon it's not that hard!

Apologies to WP and MT, but this crap has gone on long enough.

not that confusing really
all i will say is that terry has not learned from his mistakes at the bulldogs
Oki doki then - whatever :-\

My head is not buried in the sand - nor did I say everything is well at Punt road. We haven't won a game so I reckon it's fair to say things aren't the best
However - you keeping going on and on and on and on about Wallace and his mistake at the Bulldogs etc I have absolutely no idea what yor are talking about. This thread was about the Coburg -v- Casey match. But somehow yet again we have got onto the "problems with Wallace" again
I don't give a rats continental about what Terry or didn't do at the Bulldogs. I only care about what he is doing at the Tigers.
Now I have been silent alot the last few weeks because I was hoping things would calm down but unfortuantely that hasn't happened. I understand that people continue to be bloody furstrated ... I am sick of people feeling like they want to do this all the time :banghead :banghead
And X you probably don't care but people are getting frustrated with the constant negatives and the put downs if people don't agree with you. I know! We have been very lenient because as I said people are frustrated (we all are!)
This is a bloody good site - over time we have had a lot of fun here but honestly at the moment it aint fun and that's not because of what's going on on the field.
Look I am not going to stop anyone from having an opinion, that's what fourms are all about but the petty sniping is wearing very thin
-
Amen to that!
-
I agree look everyone is entitled to there opinions, in the end we are all RFC people and we should be trying to help our club, sniping at one another in here isnt helping, ok...everyone has a view, i have mine and others theres, we are all entitled to it but theres no need to make people feel bad about it. I think we're all feeling poo about the status of our team. We need to lift...all of us.... :cheers

Match Report From Yesterday's Game Vs. Casey Scorpions
coburgtigers.com.au
Tuesday, May 15, 2007
Coburg made it four wins from their past four games on Sunday with a narrow win over the Casey Scorpions at Coburg City Oval. Perfect weather allowed for a cheerful Mothers Day crowd to attend a well fought out Burgers victory. The home team held the lead for most of the day, but could never shrug the Scorpions off, as the lead stayed below the three goal mark for the entire match. A mild breeze favoured the grandstand end.
1st Quarter
Coburg kicked against the breeze in the first term and although around the ground the play was scrappy, good midfield pressure saw the Burgers take a three goal lead midway through the quarter. Al Neville pushed back to help out the backline and was prominent in winning contested possessions. Daniel “Jacko” Jackson took a great contested grab on the wing and set up Coburg’s fifth goal, before two late goals to Casey evened up the scoreboard. Burgers coach Al Collins was happy with his troops at the early break, as they had worked the ball well into the breeze and had made the most of their scoring opportunities.
¼ Time: Coburg 5.1 (31) Casey 4.3 (27)
2nd Quarter
Casey took the lead with an immediate goal out of the centre, before forward line pressure and ferocious tackling was rewarded in a Coburg goal. The next ten minutes saw the ball significantly in Casey’s forward line, but they didn’t use it well and kicked atrociously. For the remaining fifteen minutes the play didn’t leave Coburg’s forward half, however wasted opportunities was the story of the quarter. The burgers kicked six straight behinds, before Jack Riewoldt converted two goals late in the quarter, one of them a freak snap from the boundary.
½ Time: Coburg 8.9 (57) Casey 6.7 (43)
3rd Quarter
Like the 2nd quarter Casey dominated the first 15 minutes but again their conversion rate was awful. They kicked 3 goals 8 for the term; funnily enough that is what Coburg kicked with the breeze also, in the 2nd term.
After four straight behinds to Casey, Coburg had their first inside 50 for the quarter and goaled form it. Nick Carnell showed class and poise in the backline, whilst Damien Rayson provided good run through the midfield.
Casey scored their second goal from a 50m penalty late in the quarter, only to see Natale Caruso snap a goal just before the siren, which put Coburg three points up and had the supporters on their feet.
¾ Time: Coburg 10.12 (72) Casey 9.15 (69)
4th Quarter
A dashing run through the centre from Travis Casserly setup Natale Caruso’s 3rd goal and the perfect start to the quarter for the Burgers. The crowd had the feeling that Coburg would run away with it, but that certainly wasn’t the case and Casey kicked two quick goals to take a three point advantage early in the quarter.
Riewoldt then marked strongly and kicked straight from 35m, followed by quick goals from Damien Rayson and Danny Meyer, that elevated Coburg to a handy fifteen point lead; twenty minutes into the quarter. Casey kept fighting but when Kingsley passed to Riewoldt for his fifth goal the game was out of Casey’s reach and Coburg had posted their fourth win on the trot.
Coburg skipper Travis Ronaldson was terrific all day, when there was a hard ball get to be won, his head was always the first over the ball. Daniel Jackson was a fantastic target to kick to all day and held many contested marks, while Jack Riewoldt was also a prominent target up forward and kicked well to finish with 5 goals.
It was also great to see the sponsors turn up and watch the hard fought Burger victory.
Coburg travel to Tasmania next week, and play their next home game at Coburg City Oval on Monday 11th June.
Coburg Tigers: 16:14 (110)
Casey Scorpions: 13:19 (97)

Going by McRae in EOTT, there's about 5 RFC players at Coburg pushing for AFL selection - Edwards (26 possies), Meyer, Jack, Jacko and Thursty. Cass had 19 possies against Casey.
Great spiel on Edwards
Shane Edwards
Had 26 possessions and produced some terrific football, particularly in the third quarter. Displayed outstanding spread from the contest and his composure and ability to step through traffic was a real highlight. Is in great form and ready to return to AFL football.
