Peake seeks trade from Dockers
Brent Diamond | September 6, 2009
MELBOURNE is one of three Victorian clubs chasing Fremantle speedster Brett Peake, who told the Dockers on Friday that he wanted to be traded.
It is understood that Brisbane leads the race for his services, with homesick Brisbane ball magnet Bradd Dalziell requesting a trade back home to Western Australia.
Victorian clubs Melbourne, Essendon and Richmond have also shown interest in Peake, according to his manager Colin Young.
"He's walked out on Fremantle … he was just getting a bit stale and just wants a change," Young said.
"I think with the team not making the eight as well [was a reason].''
Melbourne football manager Chris Connolly said "the door is open" for trades for experienced players, but the club's focus was on the draft.
"We'll take the best possible player in the pre-season draft and anything is possible come trade week," he said.
"At the same time, we're very keen to hang on to our early picks in the draft.''
Dockers beanpole Aaron Sandilands, who is under contract for 2010, appears likely to stay at Fremantle, despite heavy interest from several Victorian clubs.
Sandilands has been linked to Hawthorn, with its developing ruckman Max Bailey requiring a third knee reconstruction.

Unless we swap for a discard - no thanks
-
27 next year, not to mention a complete spud
Looked promising in his 2nd year as a 22 year old, done nothing since
No thanks
-
Peake is roughly the same height as Mclovin but weighs about 10kg more.
-
Likely to have checked in, like Melbourne, because of the PSD. Wouldn't think he'd be our first choice.
-
If this deal is made Hardwick wont be off to a good start.
I would think our club is being thrown up to every name this year
-
No way. Doesn't fit what we need. Just because we will be getting rid of many does not mean we need to replace them with the same type of player. Will be draft suicide.
If we trade we trade our players for picks not other clubs trash.
I don't think Hardwick will make the same mistakes as his predecessors.
Just media fluff and hype.
-
Hopefully fluff and media hype and most probably so! If we go down this road well I/We have seen it all before - It'll be kinda like groundhog day :banghead and groundhog day and groundhog day and groundhog day and groundhog day ........ etc etc

What he said.

Wouldn't fit in our plans but if we can upgrade a dud for a lesser dud it can only be a positive.
If I had the choice of McMahon or Peake for 1 year I'd choose Peake
-
Id take him in a 3 way deal. ;)
Peake to RFC.
Raines to Brisbane.
Dalziell to Freemantle.
Not ideal but a step up from from Raines.

Peake... 12 brownlow votes in a 75 game career.
McMahon....5 brownlow votes in a 148 game career.

So you will take the top layer of pond scum over the foundation ;D

What's the point? One dud for another? Fremantle win out of that trade by miles.

I did say "not ideal"
Dalziell is the best of those three but he wants to go back to W.A. Peake imo is a step up from Raines so we get a better player and the other 2 get to go home.

You're not wrong! I really rate Dalziell, he is a ball magnet. I know he says he is homesick but sometimes that's just the easiest way of saying you want out. Would be worth talking to the kid. Straight swap Raines for Dalziell. :pray

Dalziell is a ball magnet and is still very young so he will fit in to the age group for our rebuild. However if a straight swap or 3 way deal or whatever cannot be reached with raines going to QLD and Dalziell coming to us then lets try and get the Lions 2nd round pick which will be pick 28 and lets punt on the draft.
For me no point wasting a space on a list for a bloke who is 27 and has played 75 games and this time next year we'll be wondering whether he has any trade value and how long he has left on his contract. Steer clear of Peake please RFC. The direction where this club needs to go is in the opposite direction to where Peake is coming from and picking him up would be an indication that the club has not learned from its mistakes and is still looking for the quick fix.

Im no expert on Peake but he did play very well when the Dockers won 9 on the trot back in 06.He had 2 BOGs during that period.
That being said I just had a look at the site Dockerland.com and I quote "if we get anything for him ,we're in front"
After doing that bit of research I now say Pass.

We had some average plodders in 2001 as well in a 3rd place finish that would have been more than tradeable and overpriced too at that stage. Three years later most if not all those players that could have been tradeable in 2001 were probably not worth more than a bag of mixed lollies. Same analogy for Peake three years after Freo's prelim final. Good luck to Brett but the RFC halfway House for recycled footballers has closed its doors. No more charity.

Leper, dud & turnover merchant - time the Tigers moved on from plebs & list cloggers like this.
