You might find that Scott Lucas will be named as an assistant coach/development coach in 2010

He's a big goofball, but he speaks well.

I think its always good to have assistants that are in touch with the way the current game is played. Whilst I'm not a huge fan of Lucas, I can see some merit in signing him up.

Let's hope he can improve our ordinary kicking for goal.

I won't forget his left foot volley against us in the Bowden rushed behinds match last year. Nevertheless he seems well spoken and seems a solid AFL citizen with 270 games under his belt from a stable footy club. I just hope that the others Dimma brings to the club are not fresh of the production line and have some experience.

Lucas in Tigers talks
By Damian Barrett
Wed 09 Sept 2009, Page 73

NEW Richmond coach Damien Hardwick is believed to be considering adding his former Essendon teammate Scott Lucas to his list of assistants.

Hardwick met Lucas yesterday.

With Brian Royal, David King and Craig McRae all confirmed as being no longer part of the Tigers' staff, Hardwick will oversee the appointment of at least three, and possibly four, assistant coaches.

Jade Rawlings, the Tigers stand-in coach following Terry Wallace's exit, is considering his options but is expected to go elsewhere. Wayne Campbell will stay.

Lucas retired from Essendon late in the season after struggling with injury this year. He played 14 matches in 2009 for a career tally of 270.

He was given a lap of honour in a car before the Bombers' final home-and-away match, against Hawthorn at the MCG, but is known to be disappointed with aspects of his treatment by Essendon this year.

Suspicious minds
Michael Gleeson | September 9, 2009

IT MAY have just been a harmless meeting of old teammates when Scott Lucas caught up with Damien Hardwick in a Richmond cafe yesterday afternoon.

But when one of them is the new coach of Richmond and the other a recently retired goalkicker the suspicion is the conversation wasn't just reminiscing on old times.

Lucas is considering what to do next in his career, having already raised the idea of working at least part-time with the Australian Institute of Sport academy as a specialist kicking coach. Hardwick is understood not to have offered Lucas a job but advice on future options.

Richmond remains in the hunt for a couple of coaching positions with David King and Brian Royal gone from Punt Road and development coach Craig McRae likely to return to Brisbane to work with his friend Michael Voss.

A decision on whether Jade Rawlings remains at Tigerland as an assistant is yet to be made, while Richmond is also weighing up the future of several of players, most notably Graeme Polak.

Agree, I reckon he's closer to the game than Royal, McCrae and possibly a better assistant than King, plus as a bonus the intelectual property he'll bring over from the Bombers camp.

This would be a good move as would getting Lade to the club, the more people we get from outside this current club environment the better. I hope Jade goes as well and I do not mean that disrespectfully either but new blood all round is a good thing.

Apparently we have already had talks with Scott Lucas to come on board next year. He is also close friends with Richo so this may influence Richo's (or the Club's) decision to play on or go.

Simpson said when he retired he's interested in getting into coaching so a possibility.

This will probably make Hutchy's footy snippet column in tomorrow's Sunday Herald-Sun like the Lucas one did lol.

Problem is this, Richmond are keen, so are 3 others clubs .
Biggest hurdle is that we already have a mid field coach for 2010

It might be impractical unless one was deputy to the other but would it be too weird to have two midfield coaches given the youngsters we have?

Surely we need more than one assistant with some experience?

Otherwise it would be Campbell, Lucas, Lade, Simpson.

Or is Lucas not one of the front-runners?
