Caro in today's Age...
While Cousins' short-term future at Tigerland remains secure the club has closed the door on eight playing careers this year. Kane Johnson, Joel Bowden, Nathan Brown, Mark Coughlan, Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls, Kayne Pettifer and Cleve Hughes have retired or been shown the door while Andrew Raines is expected to try his luck with the Brisbane Lions.
The Tigers will bring in the consultants Leading Teams into the club to develop its leadership during pre-season and have not yet reached final decisions on Troy Simmonds - who is expected to stay - and Graham Polak, who seems more likely to depart pending medical advice.
Matthew Richardson has until December to reach a decision upon his future but has been told by the club he is wanted by the new coach. Development coach Craig McRae now looks certain to join Michael Voss at the Brisbane Lions.

Good to see the clean out is not half hearted like it has been in the past! It should be exciting to see the replacement players next season!
-
Keeping Simmonds? >:(
-
It s going to be painful but it had to happen.
keep sweeping that broom Damien
-
yeah good but WTF is simmonds still doing there.
he is the most pathetic ruckman in the afl. Even Gus and Patterson are better than him
stuff him off hardwick please

I hope they're trying to trade him or something.
-
Mail is they will keep Simmo, as a back up
-
someone pinch me please??
i cant believe this is happening.
Petrified and JON are no longer at our club.
i still think this is a dream.
Hardwick is right on track, so far... As long as he doesn't recruit rejects from other clubs ill be happy.
-
someone pinch me please??
I reckon if you change the i to a u you'll get crushed in the stampede. :P
Bring on trade week.
-

Should be the other way around
Why would medical advice clear him to play at the end of this season, but then say for him to not go on? Makes no sense. Hope this isn't from our current club medicos who've been proved less than competent this year.
-
l'm starting to feel good about Richmond already ;D wanted them to keep keep Hughes but Pt Adelaide are keen on him
get rid of Richo & Simmonds now & trade a few others like Conners, Shulzs, Putt, Gilligans Island,

Is Hughes that useless or was it the coach.
Im not sold on him getting shown the door, the others yes.
Yes next to go should be Schulz although ill throw him up for trade. Some fool would take him. Buldogs??

Very good comment there infamy. Our medico's have been wanting this year with cousins hammy and richo's injury. It would be a pity to see Polak go on our current medico's advice.

I'm pleased with the delisting/retirement decisions to date. I can see why Simmonds may be retained for one more season given the performances of our young rucks as the season drew to a close. Regardless he is lucky we have so many going otherwise he would have certainly joined the others exiting the club.
Very pleased that Pettifier and JON have left. Hughes may have been of some value but we could not wait forever - Terrible draft that one for us with JON, Hughes and Casserly :'(
I am crossing my fingers that McMahon and Raines are traded and possibly another player as well such as a Schulz.
Polak should go based on the same criteria as Cogs. Polak was never a world beater when fully fit and in form unlike Cogs and is unlikely to every reach his pre-injury form let alone the standard we need for this point on. Forgetting the situation, sympathy and any other emotional sentiment - he should go.
Putt is an interesting one. I think his size and age will save him.
Regardless, I agree with daniel, if he can continue the way he is and doesn't trade away our picks or trade for has-beens i will be extremely pleased. :thumbsup

Cleve only played 16 games in 4 years at tigerland.
Take his day of glory against Port out of the equation and he kicked 17 goals from 15 games.
2005 was a shocking year for Richmind at the draft table.

Averaging a goal a game for a young kpp isn't that bad
The lack of games in 4 years was an issue, but there was never question on his talent, just his application

DUD. Good riddance!!

but there are still some on here who think we should give him another year under a new coach :banghead :banghead

As I said on another post - it staggers me that he was captain of the SA U18 team :-\
-
NFI - any chance anyone thinks he is worth a pick - I cant belive the bitterness for no reason dumped on our players, how about some of you people wake up and realise that life is not that bad and where there is life there is hope - bet you have self worth problems - just remember it could be worse you could follow the....................................

Yep sadly Cleve has to go.
Petts' head was already on the choppong block in terms of age. He was fortunate to get another year in the first place.
There are others who should be in the gun too. Namely Schulz.
We have not fared too well in the forward line over the years other than Richo.
Hopefully Vickery Post Riewoldt can step up.
-
Cleve had to be cut as he was languishing in the VFL ressies and no longer was showing any heart. However early on he was poorly treated at the selection table by Plough IMO. You don't drop young key forwards when they kick 3 goals two weeks in a row and then have a poor game. You need to persist to build up confidence especially when we were meant to be rebuilding. Interesting to see now if Port gives him a second chance.
Petts should've been delisted last year.
Apart from the decision to keep Simmo I'm pleased with the cuts so far. A few more to go hopefully.

You forgot this ;)
:thumbsup
If that's true I wonder if they'd look at rookie-ing him

Whats wrong with Putt? And I ask this without ever having seen him play or If I did I didn't notice him, so its a genuine question.

l would have given Hughes 1 year under a new coaching staff jack, but only if he was injury free would he get that.
Still think he will get a gig elsewhere & prove he can play football.
But that still wont tell us if he could have changed anything playing at Tigerland, l think he got destroyed by Wallace & Co

Pettifer is not at Ricmond any more :cheers :cheers :cheers

White was our PSD pick. Still, '05 was a shockin draft. Comming 9th was fantastic that season ... :P
maybe we will rookie Casserly from WAFL

Folks complain about Sarge and rightly so as he's sleepy but he ain't a pussy.
Cleve is quite simply about as soft a player as I have ever seen pull on a jumper MT. There is barely a physical bone in his body. Pretty important ingredient in a KPF.
Plenty of players in football have been dropped after a bad game, however the ones that are going to make it take it on the chin, show character and bounce back. Cleve showed none of that.
Hughes very rarely game a whimper when he was dropped. He didn't take any of the glimpse of form he showed last season at Richmond back to Coburg with him, he just whimped it and expected the recall. I am glad he never received the charity of playing again in the Y&B.
Silver spoon softie. His AFL 5 minutes is over thankfully. Next.

Hughes is a women.
Dont let the door hit your ass on the way back to South Australia you mug >:(
-
Cleve had continual "issues" after the Polak accident.
-
***** **** issues?
:birthday :shh :whistle

***** **** issues?
Edit: See below post
-
Of course not Bents. Not sure how you got that from "issues after Polak's accident" ???. Cleve was with Polak when he was hit by the tram remember. Witnessing what happened apparently and not surprising affected Cleve.
We can't discuss or even allude to that other "topic" either in any form as we all know as it puts OER at legal risk so I've had to edit the above two posts.

Cleve has joined Southport in the QAFL

Well that dismisses the homesickness rumours. Cleve attempting to get noticed by GC17?
-
Must be the money MT.
Cleve did say at the end of the season that he wasnt going to play footy at all next year.
Money talks......

One problem though, you dont get a cent playing in the 2,s at Southport.

He will tear it up in the 1's at that level Jack. Only thing that will stop him is if he succumbs to the GC temptations and at his age that's a real strong possibility. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he has got the new GC club in his sights.

The standard mustn't be too bad. Brisbanes seconds were a middle of the road side this year i think?

The top few sides are decent al but it drops away sharply. He is the sort of player that will shine at the reduced level of pressure. Probably why he chose Southport - high profile club up here that will spend what it takes and gives him a leg up to GC the following year. Nathan Ablett was the first and I'll bet not the last.

Got friends who play up there, no room to hide for the weak hearted I am afraid, will struggle big time. mark my words

I've played and coached up here Jack and it is no tougher physically than any major country or metro Vic league. What it is, is not as strong across the whole team and that's why I think someone like Hughes who has a heap of talent but not the physical intensity will stand out at this level - that's how they get noticed by AFL scouts in the first place.
