Who do you folks think will top the votes for the Tigers and who will win the Brownlow?
By the way Cuz will be on the RFC table according to the gossip pages of the Herald-Sun...
Old flame is Ben's date
Sunday Herald Sun, 13-09-2009, Pg: 111
IT appears Tigers star Ben Cousins will take ex-girlfriend Maylea Tinecheff to the Brownlow. Sources said the mother of two, 37, had been shopping for dresses in hometown Perth.
-
doesn't Ben have a girlfriend? i thought he did.
maybe Ben or Deledio will top the Tigers.
like to think Jackson, but "flashing players" get votes.
-
Jacko was invited but will be OS so Browny is going in his place.
-
Top Tiger: Lids or Cuz. Blingers I think may be in our top 3. I don't think we'll get a player into double figures though given our year :-\.
Brownlow Winner: Dal Santo

Think Lids will top this year at tiggys ....
Had Richoman last year each way @ 100 or something like that early on - that was a nail biter - got a good profit.
Think Ablettttttttt Jnr may take this one - but what odds Reiwoldt - haven't checked yet :-\ May be a good e/w ah
-
I've had a little dabble at Simon Black each way - just for s and g's.
-
Leigh Montagna will win I think
-
I think St Kilda players will take votes off each other.
I hoe Ablett does not win it. Tries to be too spectacular to attract attention from umpires by trying to kick the spectacular goal too often or taking on too many players.
I just feel there is something a little selfish in that. Alot of stats are also handball receives and in some big stat returns he has 10 kicks to 30 handballs. In his 46 posession game against Adelaide in rd 5 he kick to handball ratio was 1 kick to every 3 to 4 handballs. Selwood is the real star from Geelong.
-
Sneaky hundred on J. Brown.
78 goals spending half his time at CHF is a great return. Does the brave things that umpires see. One of the top dogs in an overachieving team. Skipper so umpires notice him from the off.
$8,100 if it happens.
edit: 1,000th post its taken me a while to get there.... cheers WP and MT for keeping the place running and putting out the spotfires :thumbsup

Another slow news day in the Hun:
Tigers captain Chris Newman will walk the blue carpet with a more attractive date than last year when he partnered Matthew Richardson. This year the AFL star is taking his girlfriend of two years, Lauren Poulter.
It will be the first Brownlow for Ms Poulter, who works in accounts for a building company.
"I'm nervous, but excited," she said.

Chris and Lids are front page in the Age "M" magazine and feature in a Brownlow fashion story.

What is the lowest position a Brownlow medalists team has finished in the year they won it?
I can only think of Crawf's Hawks coming 9th in '99.
Going back did anyone ever go close to the spoon and win the Brownlow?

I can remember Paul Kelly at the Swans in 95. I think they finished 12th or 13th when he won it. 16 team comp
Plugger won in it 87 and the Saints finished in the 10-12 range I believe just off the top of my head. 14 team comp
Bryan Wilson and Peter Moore won for the Dees in 82 and 84. Dees would have finished 8th or 9th in those seasons. 12 team comp.
Barry Round in 81 for South Swans would have finished 9th. 12 team comp.
Kelvin Templeton for Footscray in 1980. Dogs would have finished 10th or 11th as Fitzroy won the spoon that year. 12 team comp.
-
Dane Swan by a long way is my tip for this years Chas! Though i feel like lil gaz is way over due!

Reckon theres a lot of value lower down. Brownlow is a funny one as you don't hear half the stuff that goes on between players and umps. The MVP award would have been much easier to pick over the years.
For instance I just saw odds of $265 for Cooney.
Now his possession stats are up on last season and while he might not have been as damaging as last year and there are a couple of clear frontrunners, as Goodes showed if you have prior form with the umps you are always a chance of winning it again.

What about if Riewoldt doesn't go close?
Can you really have the biggest individual award in football always going to players who play on the ball?

It is what it is I guess - an umpire's award - so if you get plenty of the pill in and out of stoppages you'll stand out to them. A one-year wonder like Woewodin can win it yet champions of the game like KB have missed out despite an 18 year career. The problem for key forwards is they will only get noticed by the umps if they are marking everything in sight and kicking bags most weeks. It's very rare these days for forwards to kick more than 4 goals. The umps could never miss Richo so he polled decently every year but it wasn't until he moved to the wing last year did he come close to winning the Brownlow.

Ablett might surpass last years winning total with 7 rounds to go.
One wonders whether the umps read the papers last year. No doubt the subtext in the reports this year will be Riewoldt's poor polling. Sure it might be hard for KPs and st kilda have plenty of class players but Kosi is comfortably ahead of him at the moment and like for like Riewoldt had a much better year. Fully expect him to do better next year.

Really shows how bad our list is, when Richo can poll the most votes for us and missed the majority of the year
-
Performance of Murphy and Gibbs taking 30 between them is rather sobering.
-
Richo played what 5 games
Nahas polled more than our captain....hahaha
-
No surprise we didn't get many votes with just 5.5 wins. We finished 15th on the ladder and in Brownlow votes.
Congrats to GA :clapping. Well deserved and no argument this time around that the Brownlow went to the best player in the AFL.

And watching old Kevin Murray on stage made me think that if Richo's body holds up and the boys get back on track then anything is possible. I remember him winning it against all odds in '69 - playing unfashionable football (he was the original back pocket plumber even if that wasn't his trade) in an unfashionable team (Fitzroy finished about 10th/11th out of 12 that year) at a very unfashionable age (well in to his 30's).
-
congratulations Gary Ablett!
Matthew Richardson, 6 matches, 6 votes, you star!
2 best on grounds! even was best on ground against Geelong when Ablett got 2 votes!

Well done Ablett, fully deserved it, should be your second!!

Didn't really like Demetreu (spelling???) saying Nahaaaaasssss like he did though.
