Both Geelong & St Kilda are up poo creek in about 3 years when up to 10 or 11 players in each squad will be retired or entering the twighlight of there careers.
-
Where is Tuck ?
-
Best thing for us is to go heavy with youth again. Deledio and co. are still in there early 20s. Hardwicks emphasis on youth will deliver us a 2nd and maybe a 3rd wave of youngsters. We will be ok in time. Just need to get some good players with our early picks this year and hope a couple of lower placed selections come up as well.

Where is Tuck ?
Traded to another club for a first or second rounder. :pray
-
I hope that Tuck is safe with us.
If not, I will have to find a new favourite player for us.
Though this will be easy as it will be Daniel Jackson.

All of those names should be put out there come trade time.

St Kilda particularly in the ruck. They will have a couple of 20 years or Zac Dawson and Kosi in the ruck once Gardiner and King retire. They will be trading for an experienced ruckman in this draft I reckon.
Geelongs back line is going to be devastated by retirements soon, up to 4 (though probably less) may retire this year and Egan finally succumbed to his long term foot injury and retired this year. That will end their premiership window as defenders take a long time to develop. Pity Ablett and Bartell are still in their prime, they just will have no defense and will leak live a sieve for a while.

I really doubt you'd get any takers for simmonds, even from a team like St Kilda who are within their premiership window and will be in need of ruckman at the end of the year if gardiner and king retire. He is just too old and I think we are only keeping him on as insurance this year in case pattison or graham go down. He didn't have a very good year this year at all.
I also doubt you'd trade your captain in Newman, but as Hardwick said footy is no place for sentiment. But also he isn't a great player so in this compromised draft who would want to give up picks for average or only a bit better players. His size of backline player is also pretty common so few clubs would be looking.

Richo won't be part of the blueprint Bents except to probably play as a tall next year to give our young talls another year to develop at their own pace without getting crunched every week. It won't surprise me if Richo spends more time up forward (maybe as a high up forward/CHF) and we learn play to a more taller traditional forward structure. The whole list can spend the year learning and getting use to this new structure irrespective of results and when Richo retires one of our young KPPs takes over his spot in this structure. Sure there'll be some fine-tuning in 2011 as there's only one Richo but at least they won't have to start again.

Agree Ramps. Over the next 2 years (that's 3 draft/trade periods) if we cut hard and go all out drafting youth we can turnover 3/4ers of our list quickly. By the start of 2012 Lids and co. will still be 24 or under. The new teams will make recruiting more difficult (well maybe not in our case given our draft history lol), but with such a young list next year we will most likely finish bottom 4 which will still give us a top 10 draft pick. If we finish last then it's pick 4. We'll be okay in time as you say if we recruit right this time around.
