Title: Grand Final Sprint - Alex Rance is running for the Tigers

Does anyone know who is running in the GF sprint for us?

Someone not as fast as last year's winner??

Sorry I also meant someone not as fast and not as accurate by hand or foot than last year's winner.

OOPS. Sorry I also meant someone not as fast, nor as accurate by hand or foot and not as aggressive at the footy and the opposition as last year's winner.

In other words: WHO GIVES A DAMN. It is that important that NOBODY knows who is running for any club.

But seriously, no offence One Eyed. The Tigers need to win a Premiership on GF day, not a bloody sprint for charity.

Lets hope that Whitey is the last Tiger to win one.......because it will mean we are playing in September......where we belong.

Race is on to Grand Final sprint
As the clock counts down to tomorrow’s AFL Grand Final, 16 of the league’s fastest stars are busy gearing up for what is sure to be a hotly-contested Grand Final sprint.

As tradition dictates, a representative of each AFL team will tomorrow pull on the runners to test his mettle over 100m on the hallow turf of the Melbourne Cricket Ground in a true sprint showdown.

In a race to determine the AFL’s fastest man, Athletics Australia will again host the halftime event, taken out last year by Richmond’s Matthew White.

Since the revival of the event in 2002, the Richmond Football Club has taken out the coveted title three times and will this year pin its hopes on 19-year-old defender Alex Rance.

Previous winners of the event have included Tiger Jake King (2007), Blues favourite Brendan Fevola (2006), Tiger Brett Deledio (2005), Docker James Walker (2004, 2003) and Swans man Jared Crouch (2002).

At times a handicapped event, tomorrow's runners will all start from scratch in what is shaping up as a battle of brawn on the biggest stage of all.

On the start line this year are:

Heat 1:
Adelaide – Andy Otten
Brisbane – Tom Rockliff
Carlton – Andrew Walker
Collingwood – Brad idiot
Essendon – Paddy Ryder
Fremantle – Stephen Hill
Geelong – Taylor Hunt
Hawthorn – Liam Shiels

Heat 2:
Kangaroos – Warren Benjamin
Melbourne – Colin Sylvia
Port Adelaide – Wade Thompson
Richmond – Alex Rance
St Kilda – Rhys Stanley
Sydney – Mike Pyke
West Coast – Nic Naitanui
Western Bulldogs – Liam Picken

The top four finishers from each heat will advance to the final at halftime of the Geelong v St Kilda showdown.

The Grand Final sprint will be broadcast live from the MCG on Network Ten.

I imagine its still a handicap format so anyone has a chance if they strategise right, just look at Fev winning it from what should have been Foley taking it out

Did Rance get through the heat?

Garry Lyon said Naitanui did his hammy 70m into the heat.

Rance came sixth by about 5m behind the winners. Stanley from St Kilda won it from the GC17 kid McKenzie and Wade Thompson from Port.

Did idiot even end up finishing last behind Pyke who slipped over at the start?

Rancey did well I thought. I didn't expect him to make the final to be honest compared to who he was running against.

I wonder if clubs will put their high profile players in the GF sprint from now on after NickNat did his hammy apparently.

Gee Rhys Stanley could become a handful in the future. A very fast big man, though I have yet to see him play.  But generally good mobile big men are hard to find.  Anybody seen him play yet?

true.  rance went off to a great start in the race.  which is good to see.  esp as a defender.
