Title: How did you rate our trade week?
Post by: Ramps on October 09, 2009, 01:31:37 PM
Summary

Raines for 44
Schulz for Farmer + 72

= 4/10

still 30 minutes to go.

If we can organise a last minute trade for any of Pattison, Tuck or McMahon it becomes

= 7/10

4 out of 10... bit harsh
Two very fringe players gone for some compensation, better than nothing...
We aren't trading high picks and our tradable players arent worth much!
We didn't make a mess of this trade week- he says with 20 minutes to go.
7/10 in my opinion

If we cant get rid of atleast 1 more by 2pm Id think this week would be considered a failure. Just my opinion.

What because clubs are smart and aren't even willing for our crap players.  Not our fault.

Problem is just about every trade week that I can remember has been a massive fail. This week hasnt been a massive failure, just a middle of the road failure. Still hoping for a last minute trade- not likely. I think the result has been disappointing if that is the case.

WE've hung onto our draft picks and swept out a couple of duds.

The other duds are clearly unmovable and we have to delist them or hold onto their contract.  The delisting reflects their value, the contracts reflect incompetency in agreeing to terms to average players for three years.  That's shouldn't be a reflection on our trade week but decisions prior to that.

thats ok and I understand all that. but as a Richmond member I want to see my club do well. I cant remember the last time trade week went well. Its going to be a very long 3 or 4 years coming up. Effectively we only have 1 seriously good pick (3) one pick that is fairly good (19) the rest 35, 44 etc ... I dont see our supporters having much hope for the future.

Geelong only lost Mumford and there trade period could be considered a massive success for a club that just won the flag.

As for us I really fear for our membership levels and finances going forward. There is a lack of hope that has surrounded the club. It could become very bleak indeed.

Final Appraisal: 4/10

I thought it was ok.

Would have liked to have seen Patto, Tuck and McMuffin traded.

We still have 3 and 19, if Wallet and Miller were still in charge, we'd have Fev and our first pick would be 35.

7/10 , as others happy we kept our picks and slightly improved our draft position and got another kid..

would have been nice to get another mid draft pick for someone like tuck but can't blame the club for other clubs not wanting our junk..

But we don't have Mumford.  We don't have players that we can give for an early draft pick.  We aren't Geelong.
You can't compare Geelong and our list.
There is a reason the Kangas, Melbourne and Richmond couldn't do much this week.  We just don't have the substance.  We have to get it through the draft.
Now we just wait and hope.  :pray

I think we did ok, didnt take discards ( Hardwick should know Farmer!) and picked up two picks for fringe players or players that didnt fit the plan - 6/10

3-4/10 but thats where we are at with our tradable players at the moment, we are in for some lean years IMO, perhaps two more years before we start seeing a club/team evlove and then a further 1-2 years before finals IMO.

Can't create Wine out of Water.

Offloaded two players that have had 2-3 bad consecutive years for pick 44 and 72 plus a young kid apparently worth about a 2nd or 3rd round.

If we wanted another high pick in a weak draft we'd have to have traded something of worth to other clubs ie: Foley, Tambling, McGuane, Newman maybe. Our tradable players weren't even blinked at.

Guys like Joel McDonald and Nikoski were left alone, can't expect McMahon, Patison and JON to be picked up before them

With all our retirements and delistings, we probably couldn't have done too much more. If we were trying to offload Tuck, it would have been for an under 30 pick, and clearly nobody was listening. Them's the breaks.

Probably not the draft to be using picks in the 70s, but on the plus side, we'll have a lot of young kids coming through together.

i rate this week a 3/10.

Those 3 points come from the delisting/trading of Patto, Schulz and the final point for holding onto the picks.

I dont see the recruit of Farmer a success and especially after seeing how smart Choc played this week, i would think this guy is another dude that Port were happy to get rid of.

I agree whoever said it above you cant make wine from water. We have poo players people. Who in their right mind would want any of our hacks.

The biggest mistake made this week was Andrew Raines. We should have waited till 1.45pm today to lodge that poo.

The Lions were desperate this trade week and that pick inside 20 they got for Fev could have been ours if we were patient.

we still have McMahon

5/10.

Barely a pass and that's mainly because we at least didn't trade our picks away for once and we should pick up 6 newbies in the draft.

It really turned out a non event for us. A couple of minor trades but no surprise there as we weren't bolder and didn't offer something more tempting such as Jacko once there was no interest in Tucky.

I agree with MT - 5/10 because at least we didn't trade away any of our draft picks. Annoying that other clubs such as Melbourne, Essendon and Geelong have such an array of early picks when (excepting the Dees) they had much better years than us and are much further along the rebuilding stage than ourselves. Geelong has shown why they will remain there abouts for many more years to come with their trade period.

The problem is is that that we just don't have any players with trade value that we can afford to lose.

Tuck, McMahon and Patto (if he isn't delisted) will have this hanging over their heads all summer. I hope it acts as a mighty motivational tool for them or, trade or not, they are gone.

Average week for us but perhaps that is just because we are comparing it to teams such as Brisbane???? Hard to be sure.

For mine:

A pass for not trading away our first 2 draft picks in 3 & 19 which means we ddin't do a stupid deal like we've done in the past

A pass because we didn't actually lose a pick at all  :P

A pass as we off loaded 2 players that most people I think would pleased about

A pass because we didn't trade away any of our good players however......

A fail for not being daring (read having enough courage) to try and trade a name player for another 1st round pick

I am not surprised we didn't move anyomre because no-one wanted them

Overall: 5.5/10

Good!

we lost No Draft Picks,

we cleaned/cleared out two players,

we have a chance to Draft 5-7 Cubs,

we still have "bad players" on our list which is obivously "bad" but Hardwick could change some into "good players",

Hardwick did say along the lines of "we are starting over",

6/10.

Tuck and McMahon should be moved, but lets just wait and see!

 :)

Can I add

I understand that people are disappointed that McMahon is still there but bottom line is no-one wanted him - let's not blame those that there are now for this, they tried to get rid of him

He is here for season 2010 that's all there is to it

But look on the bright side - at least people will have someone to bag automatically rather than having to find someone new  :rollin

I agree with most sentiments on here.
We have for the most part a trash list and hence our players won't attract much attention. My most pleasing aspect is for the first time in years or ever we traded away no picks and gained 2 more picks. Sure McMahon could be gone too but hey he will be at rd 22 next year after virtually a season at Coburg. There will be all the the delistings we could have hoped for and we are investing in the draft. Something different. Results may not be great next year but there is hope. We also have pick 2 and we may be able to snare someone of substance for free to enhance our playing group.

Nothing to trade - nothing to lose - nothing to gain - Just a stab in the DARK really! "Am I allowed to say that after Hey Hey"  ;D

Man if Schulz fires I'll run naked down Punt Road - Port = our biatchez Rodan hasn't actually been a superstar as some would like to think, Danny Meyer (YEP) who's that others may ask and now the Sarge - LOLCAKES  :rollin

hmm we traded a chronic underperformer with poor skills for 44.

we traded a contracted 7 yr dud for a young fringe player  cant lose in that deal even if farmer turns out a dud.

and most importantly we managed to trade into a pick and pick up a player to boot  it must be a first. i was worried we would trade away everything as per usual. if nothing else we have had a feeding frenzy of trades where our players were shunned we did well to gain a pick i would give em 8 out of 10 after all you cant make a silk purse out of poo.

Agreed claw.
So refreshing to see us keep our picks & offload a couple of underachievers for more picks.
7.5/10 for me. Would have love to have seen another pick for Tuck.

Herald-Sun gave us a "C"

RICHMOND

GAIN: Mitch Farmer. Picks 44, 72

LOSE: Jay Schulz, Andrew Raines

GRADE: C

Couldn't do much, mainly because it had nothing to give. Schulz and Raines won't hurt and the mail is Farmer can go a bit.

DRAFT ORDER: 3, 19, 35, 44, 51, 67, 72, 83, 99

Its hardly surprising that our "expendable" players did not attract much interest from other teams.

The fact that we were able to off load 2 ordinary fringe players is cause for celebration.

Richmond

Ins: Mitch Farmer (Port Adelaide), Pick 44 (Brisbane), Pick 72 (Port Adelaide).

Outs: Jay Shultz (Port Adelaide), Andrew Raines (Brisbane).

Draft picks: 3, 19, 35, 44, 51, 67, 72.

How they fared: The Tigers were very quiet considering the predicament they are in. Andrew Raines wanted out and Jay Shultz was only holding them back, but they didn’t get much in return. And with only two top-30 picks in the draft, the future looks bleak. Your move, Mr Hardwick.

Rating: 5.5 (Farmer wants a life, so he left Port. Never mind Raines, he's poor).

We need alot of luck with picks 19, 35 and 44 in particular. Hopefully our recruiting team can do well with these picks. These are the picks that will determine whether or not we have had a successful draft.
