Tigers president Gary March yesterday said the club intended to take either Sturt onballer Jack Trengove or Bendigo onballer Dustin Martin with its third pick in next month's National Draft.

Interesting that he didn't say Scully.
-
March putting his foot in his mouth again when answering the media :help. When does any club president publicly come out and say who their club is going to draft let alone say it over a month out from the draft and when another club has the first two picks before us :P.
When will this club learn to shut up and keep things internal :banghead.

Apparently he just can't help himself :banghead

I dunno, isn't he really just stating the obvious anyway?
-
I have no trouble him saying who we're taking when we have pick 3.
We can't lose.
If we had pick 10 and he was saying things like that i'd think differently.
-
he should have included scully as well and really ramped up the pressure on the demons to make the correct call.
-
Do you think him saying Trengove or Martin means that Melbourne could be still considering Morabito, Butcher or even Martin??
-
fcuking ccokhead is March.
Its just not professional practice to do this. Our next pick is 19. The more uncertainty in the draft, the more chance that a kid we think will go 14, 15, 16 will slip to 19.
Michael Green come home.

Have to agree with you MT, now we will end up with Scully, everyone may think this is a good thing but I don't if it happens, Butcher has a bad kicking trate and Scully is carrying injuries. Hawthawn picked um..... um...... whats his name with an injury and he has hardly played a game and he was rated as the top draft choice at the time.

How does this mean we will NOW end up with Scully?
Actually I find it funny - someone from the Club said what was it 2 weeks ago? we were likely to go with Martin and that was OK
Now the President repeats it and you'd think the world was about to end :rollin

Oh ok WP MAYBE, MAYBE we will get Scully. That comment was made 2 weeks ago when Scully was a certain to go at No.1, now APPARENTLY over the past 2 WEEKS he has been checked out and his knee is not 100% so the Dees MAY go for Martin instead IMO IMO IMO!!!! March's comments now at this point in time ar stupid IMO IMO.
BTW, I have been watching and you seem to ridicule just about all my posts, forum it is but back the stuff off man.
-
what an absolute tool is our very own president.
seriously ive had an abolute gutfall of the comments this guy makes in public.
I wouldnt care as much if he listed 5 or 6 players but to only single out 2 shows his hand to the demons before the cards are played.
WP your missing the point no preseident should ever declare his/her hand before the draft. Its unprofessional practise.

100% Agree!!

I understand the point daniel but he isn't the first and he wont be the last. Go back to when the Doggies drafted Cooney and you may find Smorgan did the same thing
In the overall scheme of things I don't think it's the end of the world...
Should he have done it? Nope but he did and thats that :thumbsup

My point was very simple there is a very big difference between "we will NOW get so 'n' so" and "we MAYBE"
If the Demons go for Martin they go for Martin. It will be how it will be....
The top 3 picks are standouts by all reports so we are going to get a very good player. End of the day that's all we want.
And regarding your last comment I don't believe I am ridiculing you but if you believe that I am - Sorry :thumbsup

I noticed that on the website DEMONOLOGY that they have renamed their "Scully countdown clock" to the "Scully/Trengove countdown clock".

where is the quote?
oh thats right there isnt one.
if there is no quote there is no proof of him making those comments.
relax
-
I was a big critic of March since he took over as president
Have come round a bit recently and defended him this season despite plenty of ferals turning on him as their next target since Wallace left.
Now he goes out and does something completely stupid again and I wonder why I bother defending him.
Just shut up you idiot

I think you are right blaisee......where is the quote and we dont know in what context ? Time to Relax.
-
i dont know if he made those comments or not..but even if he did..it is not rocket science to say what he said....crickey...
who we pick will not influence Melbourne one iota...they will pick whoever they want....we will pick the next best is what he is saying....
some posters on here are overly analytical and critical....
-
Mountain to the left ...
Molehill to the right.
-
I am pleased with this news.
Trengrove or Martin or Scully. As long as we have one of these.
-
Yep, relax. Its not the such a big deal - we take what evers left. March only said the bleeding obvious that doesnt change anything and puts the pressure back on Melbourne if anything as it puts the ball back in their court.
Now the year we said we would take Tambling = disaster, as it allowed Hawthorn to take Roughhead knowing Frankilin would be there.

Port tried and trade #8 + #9 for #2
Sydney #6 + #14 for #3
this would say that the best few kids are ahead of the rest
March is just saying that we rate Martin, Trengrove in this group and will draft them. Nothing wrong with this.

No you're right WP it's not the end of the world and for all we know the Club may very well do the opposite to what March says publicly as we did with Cousins :wallywink ;D. However, you would've thought he would've learnt from last year not to comment at all about our recruiting. A straight bat reply of "our footy department will be making that decision and I have great confidence in them and the resources they have had at their disposal to land us a quality young footballer" would've sufficed.
It's still unprofessional but the Bulldogs had pick 1 when Smorgan said that and Cooney was the clear No.1 that year. For March to say only two names when we have pick 3 wasn't too bright. Can we leave the Club's public comments to Benny Gale in future. March acts too much like an average supporter in the outer in front of the media.

If those two names are gone, and at #3 we get Scully I do not think March will lose sleep.

After his gaff the other morning in his interview with KB when he said Tucky was the one who asked to be traded when this wasnt' the case do you really think that's a good idea
:rollin :rollin :rollin

Oops I missed that :rollin
In that case let's just stick to everyone at the Club shutting up publicly :thumbsup

Actually wouldn't mind hearing from the coach :thumbsup
Perhaps next week when they start official training :pray

Well March won't be able to come out and say afterwards we would've taken Scully even if we had had the No.1 pick ;)
Scully's a Tiger supporter as well. We should be sending the message we want him just in case in the unlikely situation down the track he wants to fulfill his boyhood dreams playing for Richmond when free agency comes in. That may sound far-fetched but Judd never forgave Hawthorn for saying they preferred Hodge to him before the 2001 draft. That's why he didn't nominate them as one of his 4 preferred clubs despite the Hawks challenging for a flag.

Why has Scully suddenly fallen out of favour somewhat? What's the prognosis on his knee? What is the likelihood that he will slip to us?

After the last 5 years I'm quite happy to hear nothing from our coach for a while! ;)

Scully was measured to have a small handspan but given his skills by hand and foot are very good that doesn't seem to make any difference. He would still be in the top 2.
-
Maybe he said it so Melbourne overlook Scully for 3 . . . in any case it wont make a difference as the Demons will take who they want and we get one of Scully/Trengove/Martin. End of story.
-
Interestingly I spoke to a very avid Melbourne supporter who is in a coterie group, Presidents club etc etc for the club and he assures me that last month when they met the club was thinking Scully one and Butcher two but a lot can happen in a month I guess....

It'll be interesting if the clubs follow net speculation or pull a surprise. You'd reckon Butcher had never kicked a footy in his life the way some are bagging his goalkicking on other sites. With the Dees gaining pick 11 in trade week perhaps now they may think they can get a decent KPP then and go 1 & 2 with Scully and Trengove. In any case we can't control what Melbourne does. We've just got to make sure we're prepared for every possible scenario including Butcher or even Morabito going at 2 and choose the best kid left available at 3.

Agreed. Quite hilarious some of the carry on.
