Social Club Demolition
richmondfc.com.au
Thu 22 October, 2009
The demolition of Richmond’s iconic Social Club began this week at Punt Road Oval.
The building is being knocked down to make way for the Club’s $20 million redevelopment, which will bring the football department to the elite in the AFL, as well as provide services and employment opportunities for members of the community.
Stay tuned to richmondfc.com.au to see photos and video of the Social Club demolition as it happens.
Richmond’s brand new facility is expected to be completed in late 2010.

Great news. Always good to see something big like this happening.

Are there any pictures of what the redevelopment will ultimately look like?

Rhett has pics of what the old social club looked like as a grandstand before it was converted into a social club in the late 70s.

Yeah it is a really positive sign we are doing OK financially. Effectively it is increasing our off field spend on long term infrastructure to make us competitive with the brisbanes and collingwoods of this world. Next to the off field medical spend and physical conditioning spend. But that may push our finances given we look like having a dud year next year as the new coach bottoms us out.

You will be pleasantly surprised tidyman. No bottoming out happening here and no financial 'ruin' unless March and the board have the mother of all collective brain farts.

Don't forget that the majority of the funding for this project has come from the Federal Govt - $6-7 million. The majority of funding is coming from outside sources , Fed, State, Local Govts and the AFL. The RFC only have to find around $3 million of the $20 mil and they are doing the majority of that that via fundraising (JDF).
This spend is outside our normal finances

The old social club is no more. Just a pile of rubble now. The final bricks were knocked down today. We were all on the oval watching it. I'll post a photo of it later.
The Club has a machine taking photos every ten minutes of the demolition. Sounds as though they will put together a fast-tracked video clip of the demolition and construction of the new facility. I was told the new building will be 3 stories with the new social club on top in the function room.

They're not mucking around are they :thumbsup.

Would love to know what happened to the pavers that people paid for (money went to the JDF) that were outside the old Social Club, that includes the pavers in order of all the players ever to play for the Tigers
Some donated big $$$$ for those
-
I heard they would be relocated but I can't remember where or who so I can't vouch for the reliability of the source.

I've heard that too, I'd be surprised if it wasn't the case

Not sure but I've heard it'll be whereabouts where the new RFC Museum will be which will be on the ground floor of the Jack Dyer Stand.

I can confirm that the pavers are safely in storage. All were pulled up and placed in storage before the demolition of the Social Club. They will be "re-laid" once the new building is complete :thumbsup
Chutney got a very nice letter from Benny Gale advising the status of the pavers ;D

Welcome to the latest MCC member news update.
Several months ago, we advised of a proposal for the club to be delegated the management of Yarra Park. The MCC will be investing $16 million into the provision of an independent water supply for the park’s health through the construction of a water recycling plant. This plant will also supply water for both the MCG’s use and for Punt Road Oval.
Looks like we will have a nice green oval for our future stand alone VFL tema to play on ;D

This preseason is showing why we need our own training ground at Craigieburn. At Punt Rd we have to train around the cricket pitch while alternative nearby grounds like Gosch's Paddock and Vic Park are off-limits to us thanks to Collingwood.
