These two have been locked in for a while, we could do with a quality tall, but these midfielders are too good to pass up. We'll hope that a good tall is available at #11 and possibly #18

#1 - Jack Trengove

#2 - Tom Scully

#3 - Dustin Martin

Highly skilled ready made midfielder at about 187cm and 86kgs approximately. Draft camp showed unexpected speed which adds to the package. Martin becomes Hardwicks 1st national draft selection to start the next Richmond rebuild. A 10 year 200 game player. Very happy to have him at Punt Road.

Fremantle with selection number 4 would like to select

Anthony Morabito from Peel Thunder

it was a toss up between Morabito and Cunnington but having a home grown player will potentially remove some relocation issues.
We hope he will live up to expectations.

North Melbourne will use their first selection on, Ben Cunnington.

Height: 185cm
Weight: 84kg
Position: Midfield/Utility (any non key position)
Preferred foot: Right foot/Dual sided
Potential: 8-8.5/10
Style-like: Joel Selwood/Jimmy Bartel

Ben oozes Shinboner spirit, and complements the new coaches desire to add a hard edge to the North Melbourne outfit. A selfless team player who is more than happy to go in and get the ball for his team mates. Slight knock on his speed but easily complemented by surrounding him with line breakers.
Other Considerations: I really considered John Butcher here as North lack a genuine forward target. I think however that Brad Scott will be looking set a trend here and in his first year might avoid any risks. Robbie Tarrent should be fit this season and a reasonable forward should be available at the next pick.

Swans take Gary Rohan.

Midfielder or small forward with good kicking skills, excellent mark and strong defensive pressure.  Ticks all boxes for this club's requirements.

Sorry I'm late

Pick #7 - John Butcher

Happy to grab Butcher here who is the best key forward in the draft despite having a inconsistent year. Even with injury and a interrupted pre season Butcher commanded extra attention up forward due to being such a great contested mark. Very quick and agile for his hieght and 30 goals from 10 games in a "Bad" year by Butcher's standards make him a tantalizing prospect given the scope of improvement he has.
An unusual kicking style has critics going mad but like Buddy and Riewoldt he'll give himself plenty of opportunity in front of goal so I have no regret picking him up here.

With the Eagles having two 2nd round picks heavily influenced me taking a KPF as the midfield depth I quite strong in this draft. I was also considering Melksham with this pick as I'm a big fan.

Port selects:

Pick 8:

Jake Carlisle

Pick 9:

Kane Lucas

Enough has already been said about both of them.  I don't rate Tapscott high enough to take him with a top 10 pick, even though he doesn't have the "go home" factor.

Do you rate Carlise ahead of Talia Danog? can I ask why?
Title: Re: OER PHANTOM DRAFT 2009
Post by: Danog on November 05, 2009, 08:39:26 PM
Carlisle can play both ends.  Talia is more of a pure CHB, which Port already has in Alipate Carlile.

Post by: WilliamPowell on November 05, 2009, 08:51:10 PM
Essendon

Pick 10: Aaron Black

With the retirement of Matty Lloyd, Essendon are looking for another long term key forward prospect. The Club views Hurley as our long term CHB and believe that Black can develop into either a FF or CHF for the next 10 years'

Sorry guys - was on briefly while waiting for a flight home but didn't have enough time to research my pick.  Coping with the world's worst hangover didn't help either.

Sydney will take Lewis Jetta with their next pick.  He is quick, skillful and has a good defensive mindset and that suits this club well.

Pick 15  Luke Tapscott

We rated this skilful player in the 8-10 range, so we're delighted to pick him up for pick 15. With his excellent footskills he'll fit in well with our game plan. We also considered Melksham and Stevens with this pick, but have gone with "best available".

Pick #16

Port Adelaide selects Jake Melksham.  I'm surprised that he lasted this long, to be honest.

Tapscott would have been taken here if he wasn't taken a pick earlier, as it would have completed my trio of players perfectly (flashy outsider in Lucas, KPP in Carlisle, big-bodied midfielder in Tapscott).

Even though Melksham doesn't fit the "big-bodied" role, he has too much of a talent to ignore with this pick.

That's Port Adelaide finished. :)

Geelong selects Nathan Vardy. The cream has been taken off the midsized player pool and from here on its pretty even. Mumford is a loss, Ottens is becoming a crock and the back ups don't seem to coming along as hoped. A small pool of ruckmen in this draft so take what you can while it's available, in terms of ruckmen . Considered Fitzpatrick for his versatility, but kicking is a worry. Happy to see Vardy slip through to here.

# 19 Richmond - Ben Griffiths

Ben is selected because Richmond need a key forward. At 198cm and 99kgs he is ready to play and we need to find Richos successor. I rated him higher than Aaron Black who went earlier. Key risk factor is Bens injury profile. He needs to work hard and get himself on the park. If he does he'll justify this selection.

Others clearly in the mix at this pick were Brad Sheppard and Koby Stevens. Stevens leadership appealed but he is a midfielder and we can find them down the track, Sheppard is the same. Both good players, but need wins so we welcome Ben Griffiths to Punt Road.

For pick 20 Fremantle would like to stick with the home grown players and Select

Joel Houghton
Perth Demons

This kid will be a gun. Very accurate in front of goal and very good overhead. You can never have enough KPF's.

D.O.B:   26-Nov-1991
Club:   Perth
State:   WA
Height:   194cm
Weight:   82kg
Position:   Forward
Tall forward with a tremendous set shot for goal. Outstanding endurance and agility for a player of his size. Marking on the lead and an ability to play present up to the kicker are assets. His level 15-1 beep test at WA screen outstanding. WA Under-18 representative in 2009.

(on a side note re tigers, we really need to have a serious look at him with our pick 19 if he is still there. If you haven't seen his highlights reel...its a must see!!)

We looked at all the highlight reels and in our humble opinion Ben Griffiths is the best key position forward prospect in this draft. We would have considered Houghton at 44. Alas you have taken him with your pick. We wish you well  :ROTFL

Thankyou for the introduction Popelord!!

North Melbourne will be wrapt that young Matthew Panos has slipped to pick number 21
Height: 191cm
Weight: 91kg

Slides due to his height but is a genuine forward that is ready to go! Good hands and nice shot on goal will help boost the forward line and provide another target.

I hope we have a look at him later in the draft, but definitely not that early. Highlight packages are a little biased.

pick 23 Callum Bartlett

Stoked to grab these guys.

write ups too follow. It's late and I've have too many ales to communicate my thoughts to the keyboard.

I thought about Koby Stevans at one of these picks but because the eagles have Masten who is a better inside player I decided otherwise.

Essendon Pick 24:

Koby Stevens

DOB: 18/6/91

Ht: 187cm    Wt: 83Kg

Hard runner with great leadership qualities. Despite his troubles with OP during 2009 Essendon are confident they have a long term hard inside running mid-fielder

PS: I am going to be tied up most of today so I may not be able to get to pick 26 until late this afternoon.  :cheers WP

Good pick. He is a much better fit for Essendon I think who lack players of his type.

Write ups from last night.

Brad Sheppard

A defender who can play tall or small and works hard when the ball goes the other way, but the best part of his game is when he is coming out of defense with the ball in his hands.
He's quick and has great disposal by hand and foot. He is in a very similar mould to Corey Enright in this way and I expect him to go much earlier than this come draft day. a steal at this point IMO ;D

Callum Bartlett

At this point basically being my final pick in the draft I decided to go with a high risk reward pick. If Callum can get back into his form pre injury (ACL during the 09 pre season) he will become a cult figure and crowd favorite. A quick, pacey small mid / HFF Bartlett has a thumping left boot much in the style of Daniel Rich. He likes to run the lines and split zones apart with his skills. Only knock on him is his lack of game knowledge and I suppose fitness as he struggles to manage over 16 possessions a game. But rest assured he makes them count. If he had played all this year he would have gone top 10. Some say even top 5.

Apologise for the delay, uni exams etc...

Well it becomes a bit hit and miss from here on in but North Melbourne will pick up Mark Hutchings with pick 25.
Height: 181cm
Weight: 81kg

Hutching is a versatile midfielder with a hard edge. Not as polished as others available here but his size and attack on the footy picks himself. Has some WAFL senior games under his belt which always gives these draftees an intial advantage on their peers. Intelligent player who reads the ball well and will rotate well through the midfield in a defensive or offensive mindset.

Pick 26 = Essendon

Marcus Davies

DOB = 4/6/1991

HT: 187cm  WT: 81 Kg

Can play half back or in the mid-field. Has very good leg speed and power. Has improved his disposal this year and had a very good under 18 Carnival. We expect him to ready to play senior footy in 2009. To fill the gap left by that sook McPhee  ;D

27. Brisbane - Josh Thomas (Qld, 01/10/91, 178cm, 70kg).

Thomas has been linked to the Lions at this pick. He turned down a contract offer from GC17 to go into the draft similar to Beams last year. A quick skillful half-back/half-forward who also played midfield in the U18s but will probably end up a HFF at AFL level. Being a local Queensland boy also takes away the go-home factor.

Kyle Hartigan finds himself in the cattery.

Hard working key defender who sets himself the task of beating his opponent and rarely losses. Great speed for his size, and body strength are his weapons. AIS-AFL Academy graduate. His level 14-5 beep test at Vic screen outstanding for a tall. Vic Metro Under-18 representative in 2009.

A tall fast key defender who hates getting beaten is just what an aging backline needs in reserve

Blaisee stole my pick.:) I was going to take Troy Taylor. Never mind.

pick 31 Jack Fitzpatrick

Bulldogs have chosen him as both a key-forward and a ruckman. He should be very handy for a club that has been traditionally "short" in these 2 areas over the years. He may take a year or two to find his feet at AFL level, but will be worth it in the long run.

32. St Kilda - Mitchell Duncan (East Perth, 10/6/91, 188cm, 81kg)

The Saints go for best available and are delighted Duncan is still available here as some had him going in the late teens/early 20s. U18s All-Australian and AIS-AFL Academy graduate. Midsized lead up forward with good hands and skills. A solid natural footballer that would complement the Saints' tall forwards.

Essendon:

Pick 33

Sam Reid

DOB = 27/12/1991
Ht:   194cm
Wt: 84Kgs

With their final pick in the 2009 Nat Draft Essendon have selected Sam Reid. A tall defender who some consider is a better player than his brother Ben (at Collingwood) at the same age. He is a long term prospect who they say is still growing. He has great endurance, speed and very good vertical leap. Although selected as a defender he may be able to play forward and in the ruck.

That's all from Essendon  :thumbsup

With selection #36 Fremantle would like to select

Allen Christensen.
Geelong Falcons
175cm Small Forward / Midfielder

We are delighted that he was still available in the 3rd round and ever so pleased that Richmond are continuing their tradition of making draft selection bungles by completely overlooking the most obvious choice at this stage of the draft.

We hope that he will become another Peter Bell and take on a small forward/midfield role. He is a serious ball magnet with plenty of pace and capable of winning his own ball.

Our scouts have reported that he is generally sound in the accuracy dept. They did note however, that he is capable of brief moments of inaccuracy. Therefore we will implement some out of the box thinking. When he is delivering to the forward 50, we will instruct him to go for the goal square every time. We will then have two forwards leading to each pocket as a sound insurance plan. For us its a win win.  :thumbsup

Back again already wow!!!
North with pick thirty seven have scoured the lands and come up with the brother of an up and coming star (Jack Grimes, what a dt legend this bloke was this year)

Dylan Grimes.
A tallish defender who is capable of taking a second or third tall, with the ability to rebound. Maybe be slightly overated at this point but we will take that punt that he is a lot of development left, like his brother. Will add some strength to the backline and we have almost nabbed a player from each section of the ground so far in this draft.

38. Sydney - Ryan Harwood (Tas, 8/7/91, 184cm, 79kg)

Inside mid and ballwinner from Tassie who is also a good tackler and would suit the Swans style of play.

For Pick 39 Hawthorn selects Max Gawn (206cm/97kg) from Sandringham Dragons

Hawthorn clearly need all the help they can get in the ruck and Max not only is very tall but has a pretty big leap also. Strong mark also means he could play as a resting forward if required. Has a reasonable build already so should be able to play a role in 2010.

Yeah I agree, but I decided that what Ill prefer to do is bring up the names of about 3 players who have hardly been mentioned anywhere on any internet forums. Mitch Fisher was one of the 3. In the end, this is just an internet phantom draft, so I prefer to have a bit of fun and bring to the attention of OERs players not really mentioned anywhere else- it will be a good debating point.

Quick and agile half back flanker/midfielder who is strong over the ball and rarely makes a mistake when in possession. Ultra competitive with sound decision making skills.

On the draft machine page for Geelong, Fisher is the fourth ranked potential draftee, as picked by the supporters. The draft machine will only spit his name out if you tick the agility box. Had him in the mix as a later round selection, only because I saw him listed here.

With pick 42 Geelong picks Andrew Hooper,. This kid may be small in height, but he's not slight. Strong and willing to get the hard ball with good disposal, can fill a role either down back or up forward. If the fitness team can get some endurance into him could also rotate through the midfield.

It's been 24 hours so to get this moving .....

43. Carlton - David Astbury (26/2/91, 193cm, 79kg)

Tall from North Ballarat Rebels who can take a good contested mark and can play both in defence and up forward which would suit the Blues. Astbury will need a couple of years to bulk up but he has good pace and endurance. At AFL level will probably settle in the backline.

With pick 44 Richmond will produce its 2nd smokey of this draft. In the real draft I hope we get to take this lad at 67 or something but for sake of conversation and this thread and getting some discussion going we will bring forward our selection.

The player I am selecting here has not been selected anywhere. I havent seen his name in even 1 phantom draft. He has only been playing football for 18 months. He comes from a basketball background. He is 198cm tall and 104kgs but he carrys his weight really well. Hes running is clean. He takes grabs cleanly and out in front of his face not waiting for the footy to his chest. He can kick the footy really well and can kick a goal from beyond 50. The upside is enormous and I will take the chance that Damien Hardwick can teach this lad what needs to be done to become a star FULL FORWARD. Having said all that with selection

# 44 the Richmond FC selects: Warwick McGinty Glenelg FC, 198cm and 104kgs.

ps- Now I will wait for the attacks but I am prepared. I will go into hiding until my next pick.

Tall from North Ballarat Rebels who can take a good contested mark and can play both in defence and up forward which would suit the Blues. Astbury will need a couple of years to bulk up but he has good pace and endurance. At AFL level will probably settle in the backline.

http://offseasondraft.championdata.com/afl_off_season_draft/offSeasonDraft/player_profile.jsp?player_id=115427 (http://offseasondraft.championdata.com/afl_off_season_draft/offSeasonDraft/player_profile.jsp?player_id=115427)

Wasnt Sabretooth supposed to take this pick? Im deadset spewing I was going to take Astbury at 44. Um ok ... I will delve into the Ramps recruiting bag of tricks and cause a major controversy with pick 44.
There's a 24-hour limit now otherwise we'll never get this finished before draft day. Even now we'll be pushing it with just 10 days to go. Hopefully we can average a minimum of 4 or 5 selections per day to get it done.

Looks ok, Kicking is a bit iffy but as he doesn't have a footy background that could still be rectified.

McGintys short passing is good. The long goal at the end of the clip shows he can kick long and straight.
Just what we need in a potential full forward although hes quite mobile in the ruck as well.

It's very hard to get stats on the SA kids but has McGinity ever played as a FF? From the stats I could find he kicked just 2 goals all year. He was named in the bests in two of Glenelg's ressie finals out of curiosity but more playing as a ruckman.

http://www.glenelgfc.com.au/fixture.htm

He seems more a big lump of a lad who plays in the ruck at SANFL U18/ressie level but would probably struggle in the ruck at AFL level without a big vertical leap as he's "only" 198cm tall compared to the 200cm+ types or athletic leaping freaks like Natanui and Ryder he would be up against.

I didnt pick him to become a ruckman. I picked him based on his physical attributes, his size, his speed, his kicking action, the way he marks the footy. I feel if a club puts him at Full Forward and develops him properly he could become a very decent full forward.

Also note he started the year in the lowest grade and got himself promoted to the senior 2s where as you said he got in the bests on 2 occasions in the finals series. Current progression is a very good sign IMHO.

Hard to tell from the footage if he has the acceleration to be a key forward. I can't find his state screening results for 20m sprints. He looks fairly quick for a big lad but if he has good acceleration then yeah there would be something to work with trying him as a permanent forward. He's overage so I think he'll be more a rookie selection in the real draft.

Btw he sees himself as another Will Minson.

If you mean Matt Maguire, sabre, he don't think he has nominated for the national draft. I"m pretty sure Ball is the only currently listed player to nominate for the National Draft

Sorry mate. The reason we put a 24-hour limit is because it hadn't moved in a couple of days. Ramps is happy to keep McGinity so I'll change the pick to your choice of Goose Maguire.

I hope smokey doesn't mind but to get this going again.

38. Sydney - Ryan Harwood (Tas, 8/7/91, 184cm, 79kg)

Inside mid and ballwinner from Tassie who is also a good tackler and would suit the Swans style of play.

Yeah Infamy will put a day limit on each pick as we need to get this finished in the next 12 days.

My apologies to all for holding things up over the weekend.  I was away camping for 4 days near Fraser Island so no internet, just sun, sand, grandkids and beer.

On the pick OE, I would have gone for a key defender type to complement the Sydney list - I took 2 mids with the first 2 picks and I think they could do with some height and class down back.  Although Kenneally coming back does add a bit.

Sorry again.

pick 45 adelaide: Colyer   (can't remember his first name ..Travis?)

speedy, skilful, small, evasive, can kick a nice goal; a slippery little sucker. Well worth a shot at pick 45. Matt Rendell is very pleased to get him with this pick, yet can't hide his mirth at the two latest picks by the tiges. Strewth, if he laughed any harder he'd keel over. :lol :rollin

46. Hawthorn - Sam Shaw (Oakleigh)
191cm 77kg
Very athletic tall defender, Hawks can always do with more help down back. They've got Shoenmakers but will need more than him long term.

47. Brisbane - David Astbury (26/2/91, 193cm, 79kg)

Tall from North Ballarat Rebels who can take a good contested mark and can play both in defence and up forward. Astbury will need a couple of years to bulk up but he has good pace and endurance. At AFL level will probably settle in the backline which would suit the Lions.

At this stage of the draft, speculation abounds, therefore......

Fremantle with Selection 48 would like to take

Roland Ah Chee from NT. Came highly recommended by Jim Boogie as they played side by side in club footy in the Top End until Jim's career was railroaded by a freak accident when he was doing his leg swing hip flexor warmups and the goal post he was holding onto fell on top of him, putting him into a permanent state of O.P and thus putting his future AFL career on hold indefinitely.

Fremantle with Selection 49 would like to take

James Craig from North Adelaide. Named after the Famous Australian Tall Ship "James Craig" which is currently moored at Pyrmont near Darling Harbour and is available for charter as a party boat, Hens nights and Bucks Parties. We believe its no coincidence thar they are both "Talls" who when they get the wind in their sails, perform admirably.

So far

Dustin Martin- Midfielder
Ben Griffiths- Centre Half Forwad
Mitch Fisher- Back Pocket/Half Back Flanker
Warwick McGinty- Full Forward
Josh Cowan- Wingman

Ramps, You could probably still take Jim Boogie as a Rookie/Project Player but at this stage with his O.P issues, he may not debut for you until his late 20's  :lol

Now for Pick 52, Fremantle Would like to select,

Jarryd Amalfi, Dandenong Stingrays.

We are looking for a young rugged defender and as he was named after the Amalfi coast in Italy, which is renowned for its ruggedness, He was the obvious choice.

North at this point will probably pass to see what's available in the PSD, but let's suppose they don't and pick up the spunky young footballer in Alex Carey (181cm & 77kg). A midfielder/wing player out of South Oz who has a keen ability to read the play and decent skills.

Sydney are now looking to keep structure in their list so with pick #54 they will take a tall defender from SA - Todd Culley - he has Leo Barry written all over him.

And with pick #55 they will take Sam Ezard from Vic - a small midfielder with a terrific work rate - he will fit in perfectly with this club.

With pick 56 Geelong take Levi Casboult. A big lad at 198cm and 103kg this mature age player kicked 47.14 for the Dandenong stingrays this year. He also played a couple of games for Frankston seniors being in the best players once. Having only played the game for three years Geelong think there is still a lot of improvement and could see him working in tandem with Hawkins in the future. (Already a better kick than the 'hawk)

57. Hawthorn - Jesse Crichton (North Launceston) 183cm 66kg
Best available selection here. Rated as an early-late 2nd round draft pick, getting him in the 4th round is a bit of a steal

58. Hawthorn - Jasper McMillan-Pittard (Geelong Falcons) 185cm 70kg
Another best available selection here. Medium athletic run and carry defender. Considered a late 1st-2nd round pick.

sabartooth, where are you?

As sabartooth appears to be MIA and I'm home form holidays I will take Carlton's pick no 59 to get this draft moving  :thumbsup

Carlton Pick 59

After much thought the Carlton Football Club has decided to use their final pick on:

Jesse Smith (ex North Melb)

Although the club considered passing this pick and hold a pick for the PSD we felt that our chances of picking up Jesse in the PSD were not that great as we felt that Hawthorn would use a late pick in this draft for him. Carlton need KP forwards and we believe with the right rehab program and facilities  ;D Jesse can re-start his AFL career at the Blues

60. St Kilda - Nathan Fyfe (Claremont, 18-Sep-1991, 186cm, 73kg)

The Saints have 3 late picks so take the best available kid here. Fyfe is a midsized forward who can play tall and mark as well as scoop the crumbs at the ground level. A natural footballer with good skills who keeps his feet and knows where the goals are at he showed in the U18 champs. At 73kg he'll need a little of time to put some muscle on but the Saints can afford to give him that time with their current experienced list.

Pick 62: Matthew Scott (Eastern Ranges / Vic Metro)
Silky skilled midfielder off both feet, and very sure hands with nice height.
Height: 185  Weight: 71

Needs some bulk and work on his engine to play well at AFL level.

Title: Re: OER PHANTOM DRAFT 2009

pick 63 Mitch Thorp

An element of risk, given that he's injury-prone, an obvious jackass, and has not lived up to his potential as a no.6 draft pick. However, still reasonable value at a pick in the 60's.

Others in consideration were Tom Hill, N.Winmar, and  Dylan McNeil

64. St Kilda - Nicholas Winmar (Claremont, 27/04/91, 190cm, 78kg)

Although not a direct relative to his famous namesake there's a bit of romanticism in having another Nicky Winmar in red, white and black. Very agile HFF with good skills, Winmar is an X-factor type who would be very hard for opposition clubs to match-up on at his height. The knock on him are a question mark over his work ethic but at a late pick he's worth the risk.

Melbourne - PASS

Ramps said he'll be mostly away today and possibly tomorrow and he asked if I could do the pick for him. So blame me for this pick lol.

67. Richmond - Jaryd Cachia (Northern Knights Vic, 08-May-1991, 184cm, 83kg)

Solid inside midfielder who is a thumping right foot kick and looks like an old-fashioned footballer. Averaged 19 disposals and was top 10 in clearances and contested possessions at TAC Cup. He scored 2.95 sec for 20m sprint & level 13-9 shuttle at the Victorian state screening.

At pick #68, Fremantle would like to select

Luke Ablett, Sydney Swans

We are looking to bolster our midfield ranks with a ready made tagger. We believe Luke's run of injuries are now behind him and he is ready to rejuvenate his career.
To pick up a 27 year old player with substantial premiership experience using such a late draft pick is an absolute bonus.

69 - Hawthorn - Pass

Hawks will continue to have a variety of ruckmen train with them until December so that they can make the best decision on who to pick up in the PSD

At least Cachia won't be another Fiora who can't put weight on lol. Solidly built body for a 18 year old and fills a need (inside mid). Worth the risk this late in the draft. Only question mark is kicking on his non-dominant side - can he kick with his left?

It's your turn Ramps. We'll be gentle :lol

With our next pick, Richmond selects young Sth Fremantle Colts Vice Captain- Mitch Carter. At 183cm and 75kgs hes about the right size for a half back flank, half forward flank, needs to put on about 8 kgs but should be able to do so. Quick over the 20 metres, runs the lines well, kicks well, brings some leadership skills to the table. Very happy to have Mitch at Richmond.

We'll be called Mitchmond with so many Mitches  ;D. Carter has a very natural and reliable kick by the looks of him in the highlights. Moves a bit like Newy.

73. Brisbane - Matt Dea (North Ballarat Rebels, 13/10/91, 186cm, 82kg)

Midfielder and midsized rebounding defender. Has good awareness and an excellent leap coming from a basketball background where he was captain of the U18 Country Victorian team which allows him to play taller when in defence. Decent skills and a good size already. Scored 2.93 secs for the 20m sprint at the Vic screening and 74cm standing jump which is in the top 8%. Worth a late pick.

Yeah what was it with parents around 18 years ago. Anyone have any idea why Mitch became a popular name?

Collingwood Pick 73

Tom Harms (Sturt SA)

In and Outside midfielder who has grown up in Trengoves shadow
Was rated equal 3rd best in the kicking drill at draft camp. Has a huge right shoe on him and can kick goals from well outside 50. He's a goal kicking midfielder that gets plenty of pill.
With big long blonde dreadlocks this kid will be a bigger cult figure than Dale Thomas and a bargain at pick 73.

A big fella, and we all know that the bulldogs can always use another big fella.

77. St Kilda - Josh Donaldson (West Perth, 4/5/91, 193cm, 85kg)

Linked to the Saints. An athletic tall who can play a variety of key positions. A competitive jack of all trades type. Scored 74cm in running vertical jump (top 8% at Draft Camp) and his 8.22secs for agility was in the top 20%.

Selection 78 Richmond selects Gippsland youngster Jack Weston. I liked Jack from having seen him at the carnival, dont know why he isnt rated more highly. Another youngster who runs the lines well, a big size for a midfield/flanker type. Jack is 188cm and 87kg. So he is ready to play.

If I had my way I would of cut atleast 2 more, in the end, its just a phantom draft, so it doesnt matter, we will most likely pass our last pick tomorrow, but for the sake of our exercise, I thought Id take the full selection.

Yep Ramps it's not too hard to think of 2 more to cut. The Broom will have more to do next year when contracts expire.

With it's last pick the Swans take Jamie McMillan.  A tallish midfielder, we are quite surprised he has dropped this far and are very happy to get him here.  A good decision maker with quick clean skills - he is well worth the gamble down this low in the order.

84. Brisbane - Patrick Rose (Williamstown, 10/6/86, 183cm, 81kg)

Voss had traded for mature players in trade week in an attempt to manufacture a side capable of challenging while Brown, Black, Power and co. are still around. After kicking 38 goals from 19 games as a small forward for Willy in the VFL and given Nahas' relative success with Richmond, Rose could be the crumbing forward at the feet of Brown and Fev that the Lions could look at. A possible better replacement for the inconsistent and disinterested Hooper.

(As dirty as I feel getting the Hawks the best result from their picks)

Collingwood pick 85

Derick Wanganeen

Some pace and good defensive skills. Cousin of Gavin
Could be a gem at 85
