If like me you feel the club to 1 or 2 to many risks, then I reckon you should put up what you would of taken instead of what was taken. I think its fair to say that if you want to make some criticisms like I have then put forward some alternatives from the players who were available at the picks we had.
This is mine:
3) Martin was the expected selection
19) Griffiths was probably the right call and no complaints
35) I would have taken either McMillan, Kennedy or Vardy
44) I would have Ryan Harwood
51) I think Astbury would have been available and I picked him in my phantom draft
67) Maybe Taylor would have made it through maybe not
72) Would have given a chance to one of the kids not taken like Grimes.
I respect everyones opinion and I wish all our players the best of luck. I hope they all make it.

Not alot of takers for this thread :lol

im not a massive draft watcher, just occassionally get down to games, had a family member who was in the mix to be drafted for a few seasons so not really in a position to do a mock draft of how i would have liked :)
Looking at who we drafted and what we need i would have preferred a fitzpatrick over Dea, now i might be wrong and dea could be a jet but in terms of needs i feel we should have jagged a ruck instead and fitzpatrick is incredibly gited athletically for a big guy and seems to fit the bill(was available at 44.
To read that FJ feels Astbury made our draft makes me happy bc i thought Kennedy would have been our 3rd pick. But reading about his leadership qualities and seeing his footskills and hands as well as obvious calm head I'm happy. TTaylor speaks for himself, question is are we a good enough club to make him want to better himself? hope so! Nason looks a footballer, great skills, only prob is he played sanfl reserves, but importantly he has the tools. Sounds like a driven young man, comments like leaving to further career, thanking current coach for improving his game and this is only the beginning now the hard work begins all show what type of character he has. I wuld have preferred a Grimes or Dare over webberley bu some respected posters on BF who live in Tasmania speak very highly of him, ultra fleet footed, booming kick and runs lines which is somethin our HBF's have always struggled to do.
Cant wait to see them in action next season, regardless of whther they are ready or not, you tend to form an opinion of whether they belong pretty early on in the piece.

I think for this to be a meaningful thread instead of just a whinge, you need to actually state why you would have taken the players you picked over the players that the club picked, stating the differences in the players. No point in just saying I would have taken player X over player Y.

Yes very fair point!
As I said I agree with the Martin and Griffiths picks.
My preference at 35 was McMillan. I thought McMillan shows good run, takes a decent grab, kicks well and seems to have lots of upside as well. Also categorised as a good decision maker. One of my issues is we have to many players
who are to small size wise and to many players who turnover the footy. I also feel Astbury who I like as player could have been available atleast at say 44 or 51.
Harwood would of added to our in and under type players whilst Vardy would have been a good option as developing ruck. Dea is a player who comes from a basketball background, has hardly played, and from the very little vision I seen (I havent seen him play live) there is an issue with his kicking.
Taylors selection I like and probably would have been available at one our picks later on.
The last picks Webberley and Nason, havent seen at all, but just there information summary shows that they need to both put on a fair amount of weight. I would have preferred to have given some players like Grimes a go here.
Thats all. Lets hope they all our new players come good hey!

martin, griffiths and taylor im happy with. the ladder by all reports may turn out to be a match winner and from where i sit we dont have any of them now that Richo has left so happy with those 3.
but to take guys who have little or no experience in seniors astounds me.
Sewell would have been a good choice at a late pick althought too skinny
Tell me how you wouldnt prefer a Panos or a Grimes as opposed to skinny Dale Thomas lookalike who cant get a game in the seniors is beyond me.
Nahas is an exception to the skinny rule, but to have 3 now in our team with Edwards is laughable.
Yep the Cats will be shaking in their boots come 2010

I notice that no one besides Ramps has put it on the line and named alternatives pick for pick where they thought we got it wrong last night.
I suppose it very easy to sit back and bag the later selections then sit back and hope these selections fail so you can then say "I told you so". You do this with any later round picks and chances are you will be right, no matter who has been selected by any club, as picks this late are always speculative.
If you are expecting to get 180 cm+, 85kg+, 30 disposal, hard it highly skilled players late in the draft then you are seriously delusional. Any one taken this late will have knocks on them, it's just a matter of whether you want to look at the negatives or positives.

3) Dustin Martin
19) Ben Griffiths
35) Allen Christensen
44) Troy Taylor
51) Matthew Panos
67) If Astbury wasnt available I woulda picked Matt Dea (looks good)
71) Webberley.
Would have loved Christensen at 35.
All in all I think we've drafted rather well.
2 picks in top 20 and we have a future star in Martin, Griffiths is a risky gamble that with some luck will be a great pick.
I'm shocked Panos wasnt picked up.
Hows does an All Australian U/18 not get drafted in 91 selections?
-
panos is considered Hughes mark II isnt he? once the ball hits the ground - goodnight
-
l would have taken Koby Stevens at pick 19
-
The good news is we can still pick up the best kid left in the land with our PSD pick - it the first live pick .
Who do you like Panos, Dare, Grimes, Patrick, etc
And it is good news - maybe we could get a vote happening.

3. Martin
19. Griffiths
35. Houghton
44. Cowan
51. Troy Taylor
71. Josh Tomas
But I'm happy with the way things turned out. I think Astbury and Taylor were very good gets for us. It was very logical for us to go tall but I'm expecting some more mids and a ruckmen with our rookie/PS draft picks.

You mean the kid with OP and questions on his kicking?
-
I would have did what I did, let the people getting paid for it select the players to fit our clubs needs, it's great to have a shot at who YOU think would be good at our club but don't be so dissappointed when those players are not selected. It's not your job to select them, I didn't even bother, we knew Martin was coming and after that take your pick.
Remember this too, AFL management internally have about 99.9% more information and knowledge of what these players are like in every facet of the game including their lives. So I will be prepared to leave it up to them and welcome every player to the club. If they work out they do if they don't then so be it, not every player will turn out to be a gun.

Well said WAT.
I'm pretty happy with what the Tiges have done this year, but I think Ramps' and the other what-ifs and maybes make for pretty interesting reading too. The 'too many skinny bodied players at our club' brigade here on OER should be happy with this draft too, I think they are very smart selections just looking at the frames of these lads.

The lad is one of the best taggers in the TAC, got all the good scalps this year & came out on top
lets see how he goes with his new club ;D

Not saying he's no good, just saying every kid has knocks on them about something
If they didn't they'd be going #1

Oh your right there they all get thier knocks. These TAC lads are men & most have played senior football before their 1st year in TAC
Most of them drop back to thier senior club when rested or coming back from injury or just simply rotating
Keep a eye on Koby cause he is alot like Duncan Kellaway, when he tackles you, your gone. he dont like you getting the ball

Was a lifelong Richmond supporter too, just like Scully

Was looking at the photo where the 1st rounders were lined up, Scully didnt seem happy at all. RFC should be trying to line up his exodus from Melbourne as of now IMHO.

Funny you should say that because I didn't think his Mother looked that happy either when his name was read out to go to Melbourne. She had that look of happiness that her some had been picked up but she also had that look that she wished he had gone to the Tiges.
