Taylor won't be a KPP. He's more a tall flanker. His height will give him an advantage as he'll be hard to match up on if he turns out a decent AFL footballer in a couple of years time when he's put on some weight. A Embley type.
Gourdis was lucky to survive and Simmo has only a year left so I wouldn't include both of them looking past 2010.
Rucks: Vickery, Graham, Browne
Forwards: Griffiths, Post, Riewoldt
Defenders: Moore, Thursty, McGuane, Rance, Astbury
Apart from Moore they are all young and developing talls with potentially the next decade ahead of them which is positive. The counterargument is they are mostly still unknowns and unproven. We will also still need to add more talls in upcoming drafts to add depth to cover injuries. There's only 11 talls there and 15 is around the optimum mark looking at the top sides.

Griffiths and Astbury are key players for us. If they can make it as league footballers and become very good players then we will be in a very good position.
-
i still see astbury as our CHF rather than a defender. He has said so himself that his best position is a leading CHF.
I'd think about playing Post in defence if required. Picking up Hartigan in the upcoming drafts would be great also.

No way on Thorp. If Hardwick didn't give an invite to train and he knows him, he wont get a gig.
I saw some footage of Panos and along with his invite to train with PA I thought he might be worth our PSD pick but we would have to check out how good he is around his feet. He is fast and can tackle and of course a great mark and kick !!!!!
Anyone know who the kid are that got an invite to train with us?

In a thread on bigfooty someone said that they heard on WIN Ballarat that Andrew Hooper and Free were. No confirmation on that though.

Both are too small. If Hooper was four inches taller he probably would've gone first round but his lack of height meant all 16 clubs overlooked him. He's the 2009 version of Fort Caruso.

Sadly for him i think you may right. Hooper is short, but built like a mini tank. He is about 6cm shorter than Cousins, but 1kg heavier. Looking at a pick of him he has a neck like a Rugby Union goon.
Unfortunately being so short and with a poor vertical leap he will always struggle defensively in the air. Must be frustrating for the kid 'cause he looks like he is skilled.

If he is as skilled as you say (and I have no idea about him at all) then size and aerial ability will matter little. Give me a good little bloke rather than an average mid size player any day. I think many clubs make the mistake of being too blinkered when it comes to height and some potentially good players slip through the cracks based on height alone.

180cm. I use to pinch hit in the ruck when needed but mostly played key position back or forward, especially CHB. That sounds funny when you compare it to the size of AFL players doesn't it! I just have a feeling (based on seeing so many fantastic little blokes play at all levels over the years) that the modern game doesn't pay shorter players enough respect, to the game's detriment. In the modern style of less contested packs and more keepings off I think a good little bloke could be more effective and damaging than ever but the AFL clubs as a whole don't see it that way. Personally, I would see this as a potentially fruitful area to investigate further over the next few years of compromised drafts when looking for the hidden gems. Just my opinion though.

I was basing that mainly on this,
http://offseasondraft.championdata.com/afl_off_season_draft/offSeasonDraft/player_profile.jsp?player_id=114610
but i found some other stuff that may indicate his disposal is not that good.
Kicking efficiency 64.5 and disposal efficiency 68.3 in the under 18 champs, but nearly half his possessions were contested, so i suppose that should be allowed for.

In these clips his kicking doesn't find the target as much, but interestingly he often out marks taller opponents by reading the ball better and body use;

you think he has a poor vertical leap?? came 3rd in the standing vertical leap at draft camp at 70cm.

The video clips were interesting Al. He seemed a bit inclined to bang the ball on the boot rather than think through his options and he also dropped a large number of 'easy' marks only to recover well in most cases. Also, one of the videos was from 2008 so you could realistically expect some improvement. Not sure if I saw enough that I liked or not. But.............while watching one video I clicked on a link to some highlights of Majak Daw (I hadn't seen anything of him previously). He shows a hell of a lot of raw ability - you would like the opportunity to take him as a project rookie!

A bit like Rodan in that respect. Probably a mute point as he is not on the permission to train list though.
I agree with about Daw very Raw but an incredible athlete still learning the game. Tap work would put some AFL ruckmen to shame. Surprised he isn't training with someone.
