Matthew Knights    2000 (can not be selected as captain because does not qualify)

FB:   A Kellaway      D Gasper         L Cameron
HB:   C Newman      J Bowden        J Torney
C:    B Deledio         N Foley          W Campbell
HF:   R Tambling     M Richardson   G Tivendale
FF:   N Brown           B Ottens*       M Rogers

Ruck: T Simmonds M Coughlan  S Tuck

Inter. K Johnson     K Pettifer        M Chaffey    L McGuane

Captain W Campbell

Defenders: Gasper and Bowden make up the spine. Both were AA, and Bowden ofter had to fight above his division. Andy Kellaway was a servicemen who probably had one more year left while Cameron was class personified and played a big part in our 2001 season. Torney and Nemwan ware the best of the rest. Zantuck and Hall played more games for the RFC then they should have and only showed minor glimpses while Thurstfield and Moore still haven't showed enough.

Mids: The easiest part of the team. Coughlan, Tuck, Foley, Campbell, Deledio have been our only real above average midfielders over the last decade. Jackson had a look in after a solid 2009, but Rodan, King, White, Fiora and Hyde never showed enough (whilst at RFC)

Fowards: Richo at CHF was easy as was Brad Ottens. Ottens has been our only tall foward who has been able to succeed in the same foward line as Richo. Matty "Buck" Rogers was a little champ, and was always good for a goal a game while N Brown gets in pretty much for his one 10 game season before he broke his leg - he was looking a million bucks that year. Tivendale was a solid contributor from 2000-2004 and notched up over 150 games while Tambling gets a gig due to lack of competition. Krakouer and Schultz were never consistant enough.

Bench: The best of the rest imo

HB L Cameron  A Kellaway  C Newman

C  B Deledio    N Foley     W Campbell(c)

HF M Rogers   M Richardson  K Johnson

F  N Brown     B Ottens   T Simmonds

Foll G Stafford  M Coughlan  S Tuck

Coach D Frawley

Captain W Campbell

Was more difficult picking this team than I thought. Definentely indicative of how much we struggled on field. Very few real stars and alot more average footballers than we care to imagine. Spud over Wallet by a whisker. Probably cos he took us to finals and the enourmity of Hardwick's task is fresh in my mind due to The Dried Sultana's quick fixes and snake oil salesmanship and absolute disregard of the club the team and its fans.  Other than Richo no real superstars in my view. Not yet anyway for those currently playing.  Trying hard to pick a coach from a guy who topped up after finals and then had no answer to anything to Wallace just proves what a mess we are in.

1990-1999 nineties
2000-2009 noughties
2010-2019 tensies?

The millenium party was at the end of 1999 to bring in the new one, onced we clocked into 2000.
Its only how I remember it and how the rest of the world celebrated it.
I guess the noughties end on December 31. Bring on the tensies tenners or whatever they will be called. :thumbsup

Aaaahhh, so that's 2 of you now who have felt the need to cheat by picking D. Kellaway.  Sorry lads, a suspension looms if this behavior keeps up.   :P

Best 49 games of his career Smokey. :lol

Need to justify the fact I had number 3 on the back of my guernsey from 1998 onwards until I got a new one last year. It's not cheating it's creatively manipulating the books in the same way that a good accountant gets you a good refund. :rollin

We can do one in a year's time as well  ;).

Mine:

B:  Torney       Gaspar      Thursfield

HB: Newman  A.Kellaway   Bowden

C:   Deledio    Coughlan    Johnson

HF: Cameron    Richo         Tuck

F:   Browny      Ottens       Rogers

R:  Simmonds, Campbell (c),  Foley

Int: Stafford, Tivendale, Chaffey, Tambling

Coach: Hardwick

Backline:
Gas, Chubba and Joel were All-Australians. Newy has been one of our most consistent players in defence and of course currently our captain. Torney was probably our best back-pocket in the last decade. Threw in Thursty as the best of our current defenders.

Midfield:
Hard to go past the usual names - Cambo, Sugar, Cogs, Foley, Lids. Browny, Tucky and even Tivs and Blingers can add depth.

Rucks:
Would have preferred Benny Gale as one of the two but he didn't satisfy the 50 game minimum in the 00s. So went for Simmo and Staff rotating and Otto as a third ruck.

Forwards:
Class in Richo, Browny and Cameron with Ottens (2001 form) at FF and Rogers who was our leading goalkicker in 2000. Tucky can play forward (hopefully he does it in 2010) so put him on a HFF as a resting midfielder.

Interchange:
Staff as second ruck, Tivs and Chaffs the best of the rest  :-\ and used the liberty of the best of the future in Blingers as the Club did with the team of the century team having Richo in there despite playing only a couple of seasons.

Coach:
It's still 2009 so Hardwick scrapes in and already better than the other two. He hasn't lost a game yet ;D

Can I put up a thread with the title "Duds of the Decade"  ;D
That would end up the longest thread on OER  ;D

it only works that way if you start counting at a zero year eg 1990 2000 etc.

Problem is if you go back 2000 odd years there was no year 0.

We went from 1BC to 1 AD. (there was no year 0)

So we start counting the decades and the millenium at year 1 not year 0.

FACT.

thank you "smokey_58" for the list of players that qualify!

i was thinking about 2000-2010, but "decade" meaning 10 years and 2009 being the 10th year (starting from 2000) i made it untill 2009.

could of been "noughties", but yeahhhh.

remember please choose a Coach (Frawley or Wallace), Captain (Campbell, Johnson or Newman) and who your "Player Of The Decade" is!

i did notice that some players who i would consider (D.Kellaway) in the team do not qualify.

please edit your team when you feel like and enjoy the thread.

thank you to all who have posted a team, remembering you can change if you have second thoughts!

 :)

Makes you shudder doesn't it, although I suppose most teams could put a side on paper from their own lists that they would also laugh at.  Having said that, I think you have treated Ray Hall very harshly Tucker.  The guy was a very honest goer who made the most out of his abilities and was asked to play out of position or punch above his weight division for much of his career.  He played almost all of his last 2 seasons injured because the team had no-one else to fill the fullback role.  Was a shame he never played 1 more game to get his 100 - he deserved that at the very least.

Wayne I actually totally forgot about Marsh till you mentioned him. Should have put him in ahead of Patto lol. Now he has a hack of the decade medal to go with his 1998 premiership medallion. I wonder which one is worth more. :lol

Ray Hall is a reason why we have been crap for so long Smokey. I agree with you he played above his weight and played injured in the latter part of his playing days. Furthermore he was so uncoordinated I shudder to think how he got through some games. Who could forget that match saving mark against the Hawks in 2004 when we got up by a point and only the umpires missing the fact he crossed the line and then ran over it to kick out cost Hawthorn two premiership points. :lol :rollin :lol

However Smokey he was very very ordinary and although it was not his fault he was selected week in week out injured or not, he crossed the white line and once you cross you are either good or not unfortunantely for us he wasn't. Courage and effort gets you so far when you have little or no ability. Just my take on him. Hence he made the team.

Razor did play one good game in the SF win over Carlton. Nice long goal in the second quarter of that game too.

David Bourke is another one 'unlucky' not to make Tucky's side. Good at taking speccies but not much else. How about when he took a hanger against the Saints in the goalsquare in 2001 and then missed the goal from 10m out. Classic Bourkey lol.

Another to the second dud XVIII list is Jeremy Humm  :P

ROTFLOL good one!!!

Though I thought Vardy was OK for a bit, but then maybe I sound really stupid saying that when you look at his stats.
