Pity Polak & McMahon are still on the list.

Would prefer another two 18 year olds.

Just 10 players over 23 and two of those are mature age rookies. Most likey 5 of those will be gone this time next year. We surely now must have the youngest list in the AFL with 35 players 23 y.o. and under  :o. Another draft to fill in the final gaps (another gun mid and another ruck at least) and one final cleanout next year and we should have a young core to take us forward for the next decade. Up now to Hardwick and co. to develop them into a top team.

Id prefer another key forward myself next year. Jack Darling if he grows could be an interesting selection. Its looking likely that he would be the no 1 but if we end up with pick 4 ... who knows, pick 4 + mcguane to gold coast may land a higher pick.

I wouldn't mind another KF either to add depth but moving forward we should be able to make a forward line out of Jack, Griffs and Postie as far as talls. My thoughts on aiming for another gun mid come from adding to our top midfield tier - Lids, Cotch and Martin. Wth four gun mids our second and third tiers of mids can then come from the rest - Foley, Blingers, Collo, Jacko and still unknowns in the likes of Connors who could anything or nothing. Our midfield depth is still ordinary and Cuz only has a year or two left in him.

With Hardwick making the statement he has with the delistings this year, if were

Hislop
Gourdis
Graham
White
Polo
Thomson
Polak
McMahon
King
Tuck or
Simmonds

I reckon youd need a big year to get another contract.

Another 11 changes end of 2010 is it possible?

Highlighted players will go alright this year IMO.  Tuck moved forward a lot more often.

Two of the above are rookies so they aren't on the senior list and would be replace by rookies. So that leaves 9 senior listed players. Add a couple of rookie promotions like this year could knock it down to 7.
Trade week could knock it down to 6. The PSD is one of the six so that's 5 National draft picks. So yep it's possible to make another 11 changes next year.

There is pressure is not only on all those 11 names but most of our 2009 survivors. Only a few had decent years. Of those 11 names I wouldn't be writing Gus off just yet despite a poor finish to the season. He did improve otherwise and rucks take longer.

ROFL!

quick to make the changes to 2011 Ramps.

keep in mind we will only have about 3-5 Draft picks next year thanks to the Gold Coast!

11 possible changes could lead to recycled players which IMO would be horrible!

however, i do share your opinion!

Hislop
Gourdis - Wait
Graham - Wait
White - Keep
Polo - Wait
Thomson - Wait
Polak
McMahon
King
Tuck - Wait
Simmonds - Last Season
Cousins - Lasst Season

6 players i have not on the 2011 list!

 :)

Why would it be Cousins last season?

he could have another 2-3 in him.

He will be better in 2010 than he was in 2009.

No he won't. He'll still be a solid contributor but his best is behind him.

We need others to step up than hope Cousins will relive his glory days.

great post and very true.

we need to find our own cousins and our own Richo. I for one is rapt Richo didnt play on. This is our future now instead of relying on the champions that are Cuz and Richo.

I do not agree.

Cousins had been playing full time football since he was 16/17 years of age. A full year out of the game at 28 is not a bad thing for his body.

Last season he had injuries. He he has a proper pre-season injury free and can play 22 games I think chances are his football can be better next season than it was last season.

Probably the first thing I've ever agreed with you on.
No one ever said he'd be better than his career best form, just better than last year

I for one am hoping cousins can play two more years 2010 and 2011 but I think he will only play 2010.  Its a long season and we probably won't nurse him as much as we would if we were in premiership contention.  Like rest him at the end of games we have no hope of winning or losing etc.  I haven't heard if we have changed our medical team either, so its quite likely he will go down for a bit and only play 15-20 games this year.

I would hope we improve on the medical end this year too.

I would hope they keep Cousins around for at least another two years even if he is not playing every game. I just feel we need leadership on and off the field at the moment given the average age of the list and the positive influence Cuz has on the group. Cousins is a coach in waiting and inspired those around him with his determination, professionalism and tactical knowledge. Having a person like Cousins around the club teaching the young midfielders (in particular) how to work for each other, position themselves etc is invaluable, regardless if he plays every game. I hope he  can make an even bigger onfield influence next year than he did this year but regardless we need him at our club.

In terms of our list - I am happy with the increased size of our list but agree with MT regarding our midfield. We have 3 potential midfield stars with Foley sitting just on the outside IMO but we need another one at least. Unless one of Collins, White, Bling etc steps up unexpectedly, then we need to look to the draft next year for another quality midfielder. Our Rucks also remain a concern.

This year will be as more about discovering who will step up as how well we go as a team.

Now we have him, I'd be happy to give him a 4 year deal and if he can't play for the entire term then his contract transfers over to him being an assistant midfield coach for the club.

I would love Cuz to play on for 2 more years but as with any player over 30 it only takes one significant injury to end their career. We've seen that happen with Cambo (calf, achilles) and Richo (hammy) who were still in starring form post-30 before injury finished them off :(.

I year contract extensions for Cousins is the way to go. And yes I hope we can have him play for another 2 years - who knows. Id like to see us continue to help him. He has a winners attitude and maybe one day he will be able to coach.

Big Punt on Y&B has worked out the average age and height for each club's list for 2010 and Richmond now has the youngest, most inexperienced and shortest list in the AFL.

Richmond - average age of 22.4 years, 42.3 game average per player, and an average height of 186.7cm

Compare that to
St Kilda  - average age of 23.9 years, 66.4 game average per player, and an average height of 189.1cm.
