Tiger Cotchin kept on ice but Foley on track

IT WAS a tale of two Tigers at Richmond's skills session on Tuesday morning as injury-plagued youngster Trent Cotchin cooled his heels on the sidelines while Nathan Foley joined the main group in light running duties following ankle surgery.
Cotchin was kept away from the main group at the Punt Rd skills session as he continued his recovery from the hip injury that cut short his 2009.
His last two pre-seasons have been marred by injury, and this morning he only participated in handball drills and did not undertake any running duties.
The No.2 selection in the 2007 NAB AFL Draft was also kept in cotton wool in his first pre-season as he recovered from an inflamed achilles but recovered well enough to play 15 games in an impressive debut season.
His 2009 pre-season was also interrupted by achilles problems which kept him out of the senior side until round eight.
He managed 10 games before succumbing to a hip complaint that sidelined him for the last four matches of the season.
Cotchin was restricted to handball drills in a breakaway group that initially included Foley, Alex Rance and Will Thursfield.
Foley later joined the rest of the team for some light running duties and appeared to be moving freely despite still undergoing rehabilitation for an ankle injury he sustained late last season.
Ben Cousins was an early no show but made an appearance about an hour into the session but did not take part in any of the drills.
The only notable absentees were new draftee Dustin Martin and ruckman Tyrone Vickery.Exclusive to AFL BigPond Network

So maybe Trent is not as far as advanced as we would of thought, unless it's just precautionary and part of his come back?? Who knows any more with Cotch. One week he is training with the main group the next he is back in the rehab group??????

No way would I trust that report.
Vickery trained.

There are no quotes. It's just what he saw and assumes.

Yeah well Vickery is very hard to miss.

A reporter gets it wrong again?
No, couldn't be? :rollin

Didn't I read somewhere that the dreads have been chopped.
If so then he could easily have been missed.

Cotchin free from injury

Richmond midfielder Trent Cotchin is free from injury and looking toward a return to senior football in 2010.
The 19-year-old had his 2009 season cut short due to a hip injury after round 18, but a specialised training program has helped him build toward full fitness.
“Because Trent has had some injury problems in the past, his training program is very individualised, to minimise the risk of any reoccurrence,” Richmond’s Elite Performance Manager Matthew Hornsby said.
“At the moment he is injury free, and he will continue to follow his training program in the lead-up to the start of the season.”
“He has been heavily involved in most training sessions since the pre season began late last year.”
“There have been sessions where he has been involved in everything, including match simulation, and others where he has been on lighter duties.”
Cotchin has played 25 games in his first two years at Tigerland, despite having limited preparations leading into both seasons.
He played only 15 games in his debut season in 2008, finishing third in the NAB Rising Star Award and winning Richmond’s Best First Year Player Award.

Good to see the Richmond media people have gotten thru this without using the term 'cotton wool'
