Tigers announce leadership group

Richmond has added two players to its 2010 leadership group - Trent Cotchin and Troy Simmonds.
They join captain Chris Newman, Nathan Foley, Brett Deledio and Daniel Jackson.
The Tigers’ playing leaders for the 2010 season were determined by the entire playing group, who cast their votes following an intensive process.
Cotchin, who turns 20 next month, has been included in the group after just 25 games in two seasons, but coach Damien Hardwick has no doubt he’s well-equipped to deal with the added responsibility.
“He’s an outstanding individual, who understands the values that we want our club to hold. His age is irrelevant - he’s mature beyond his years,” Hardwick said.
Simmonds, 31, returns to the leadership group after a couple of years’ absence.
“Simmo is entering his 12th season of league football, so he has plenty of experience. Most importantly, he is highly respected within the Club and he offers sound advice to our predominantly young group,” Hardwick said.

No Ben Cousins.

Kel didn't have a good year last year in his first year in the leadership group. Mind you he was robinson crusoe in struggling last year and he was carrying a crook shoulder since the Brisbane game. Maybe the club thought they wanted him just to concentrate on footy and his own game this season?
Simmo is a bit of a surprise for mine being over 30. However obviously helping out with educating our younger rucks is why he is back in the leadership group. I don't have a problem with the six. Not sure what KB was carrying on about. Someone young and talented was going to be in it given our young list. No point giving the position to a senior player who will spend half his time at Coburg because he's not part of our future.

No surprises really; for mine anyway
Seeing the leadership group is determined by the playing group and all the players selected are held in high regard by their peers it makes sense
Actually it is good to Simmo back in there as he is a mentor to the young talls

As a young emerging player, Jack has more on field runs than Cotch and fills a leadership void in the forward line.
Mitch could be another option.
Would take Cuz over Simmo any day.

well the players have spoken, I'm comfortable with that.
Interesting that Deledio cops a shedload of criticism for 'lack of leadership traits' frm the fans but he's obviously held in high regard amongst the playing group. If you've heard Jackson and Cotchin speak you can understand why they are there too. Foley is a machine and sets the example on the training track, imo Jacko just needs to back it up by taking his game to another level. Simmo is an interesting one, I can see why he was elevated.
Think the next captain will be either Lids or Cochin, hope they don't wait to long.

I would too but the thinking is he has been here for only 1 season and probably won't be around when our next premiership window will be open so they have left him with a behind the scenes mentoring role in the midfield I guess.
Quite happy with the leadership group selected although Simmo will be more than likely retiring at the end of the year and he had a poor injury riddled year last year too. Hopefully he can recapture some of his old form from early 2008.

Is possible (and probably deserving) that half the leadership team is not playing Sydney, Jacko and Simmo should be dropped
