Richmond will strengthen its proud father-son tradition with Andrew Raines and Tommy Roach set to wear the numbers their fathers made famous.
Raines will the wear No. 4 next year, the number his father Geoff wore in three best and fairest years and the 1980 premiership, while Roach takes over the No.8 in which father Michael became seven-time leading goal kicker and key member of the 1980 Premiership side.
While the No. 4 guernsey became available with Matthew Rogers retirement, Kane Pettifer who offered his guernsey to Roach.
Both Michael Roach and Geoff Raines are thrilled their sons will spend their careers in the same numbers they wore to premiership success.
"I'm rapt Andrew will be wearing it too, because I know it's something he's been striving for...the whole way through his junior career he wore No.4... and I hope he can carve out his own identity in at Tigerland," Raines said.
All four of Richmond's father-son players including Matthew Richardson and Joel Bowden will now wear the same numbers their fathers wore at Punt Road.

I personally think i'ts a bit premature giving them these numbers.
Pettifer will wear no. 15 and Simmonds no. 5.

I agree Harry,
I would love nothing more to see these two kids become great players for our club, but they are just kids with a long way to go in their developments
just thank god spud is no longer around to ruin the chance they currently have.

At least it will get us riled up..........

I agree Harry. Although having this sort of tradition is nice, as kids give them time to make a name (and preferably number) for themselves.
Anyway the current guernsey numbers are:

2 Darren Gaspar
3 Brett Deledio
4 Andrew Raines
5 Troy Simmonds
6 Mark Chaffey
7 Nathan Brown
8 Thomas Roach
9 Wayne Campbell
10 Greg Stafford
11 Joel Bowden
12 Matthew Richardson
13
14
15 Kayne Pettifer
16 Shane Morrison
17 * - for new captain
18 David Rodan
19
20 Ray Hall
21 Shane Tuck
22
23 Daniel Jackson
24 Marc Coughlan
25 Jay Schulz
26
27 Andrew Krakouer
28 Kane Johnson
29 Alex Gilmour
30
31 Chris Hyde
32 Greg Tivendale

I wouldn't be surprised to see Kel Moore get a lower number than 40.
Also, I wonder why Pettifer chose No. 15? Respect for Leon Cameron perhaps?
