Do we have the right players to be a premiship side in the near future? (3 years :pray)
i know we have had this little convo's in other posts so i thought we could just put it inot one Big discussion :)

No. Our general kicking will improve substantially after this years cull, though. That's a start.

absolutely,

Million dollar question isn't it!!
3 years is a really small time frame, given the situation we a currently in.
3 years time Deledio, Cotchin, Foley, Tambling & Martin (+ draft picks/Collins) will have to be as good as the Geelong/St Kilda midfield. With some serious work i could see them getting close to that, maybe. But at least two of these have to become A+ midfielders, Ablett/Judd types i'm talking.
We could have a premiership forward line in Astbury, Griffiths, Reiwoldt, Taylor, Morton & another small. Though Griffiths & Astbury would be where Tippett is atm so probably not ready yet but getting there.
We need some solid rucks...
We need an A+ backman, in the mould of Scarlett or Lake, that has the ability to both nulify his opposition and hurt him the other way. Or at least a good stopper such as Presti (Thursfield), combined with the rebounding sweeper of the likes of Hodge/Goddard (If we gain depth in the midfield Lids would be perfect for this position).
I mean it's hard to believe that with 3 years under the belt of the current draftees + that of subsequent drafts that we couldnt at least be making the finals... surely.
but without significant improvement we will be in world of trouble.

No where near it unfortunately but that doesnt mean that we shouldnt be working to getting in good players.
Need to use our picks well. We must get pick 4 this year. Pick 4 will get us a good player. Hopefully jack Darling or Sam Day in the National Draft.
We must seek out a ready made ruckman from those not getting games. Hampson wont stay at Carlton he is behind Warnock, Kreuzer et al. Hampson not a bad player at all but may end up at Gold Coast.
Need to organise sectors of the ground. I want to see us add to goal kicking strength again thats why Im hoping for emphasis on talls although Jack Darling is only 191cm he is a terrific young footballer, would be a massive upgrade on Jack Riewoldt for example.

Hampson just signed for 2 years with Carlton, so I doubt it.

We have a list who can go pretty far in 3 years. Anyone who just replies a straight NO are stuck in their negative mode of the last 30 years and are being careless and lazy in their reply. I don't mind if we finish very low this year because we have a few players who are getting games under their belts. We'll probably delist half a dozen players and get a very high draft pick to get a midfielder or ruckman plus other picks. Here's reasons why I think we should be top 4 in 3 years.
Defensive talls-Mcguane, Thursfield, Post, Rance, Gourdis
I think Thursty and Mcguane will be 2 of the better tall defenders in the comp in 2 years and they'll probably be 95kg which is good for 192cm. Post looks like a 10 year+ tall defender and at 195cm will form a strong tall defence. Gourdis and Rance will make good extra talls. Our defence looks very good for talls.
Attacking talls-Reiwoldt, Astbury, Griffiths
The fact that Astbury and Griffiths haven't played a game is the reason we'll struggle this year because Reiwoldt is the only tall natural forward playing at the moment. The sooner we get games into Astbury and Giffiths the better we'll be prepared for next year. Post can also play as an extra tall if required. Our forward line will be 2-3 years behind the backline in development but i think we'll see good signs this year
Midfield(centre square, wings)-Cotchin, Deledio, Martin, Foley, Jackson, Thomson, Edwards, Collins, Cousins, Polo, Nason
Very good group who will probably benefit from another quaklity midfielder with our first pick later this year. I'd like to see Edwards and Collins on the wings
Rucks-Graham, Vickery, Brown
We'll probably get another ruckman in the draft. My theory is if they can get their hand to the ball often at centre bounces and they are reasonable around the ground then they are doing their job.
Small defenders-Newman, Tambling, Connors, Farmer, Dea, Webberley
Solid group of kids
Small forwards-Roberts, Morton, Taylor, Gilligan
Solid group of kids
