Title: Richmond Central and Richmond Football Club formalise link.
Post by: cub on April 14, 2010, 02:33:08 PM
In 1986 after a quite few pub sessions talking about it and gettting a bit sick of watching Richmond lose. A couple of mates put into motion the process to form our own Richmond.

I only went to the original meetings with the VAFA and played 1 season as still more interested in watching the tigers play when I could.

But it's still going, so enjoy the read, may have to pop in for a game one day (Kevin Bartlett reserve) - They are running a pretty good show for a low club and have caught up with the oldies like me and now I get emails keeping me up to date with the club I helped form many a year ago  ;D

March in. Richmond Central and Richmond Football Club formalise link.

The Richmond Central AFC, officially known as the Snakes, but colloquially known as the StationMasters, are pleased to announce that the club has forged a formal link with the Richmond Tigers by appointing Tigers President, Gary March, as their new No 1 ticket holder.

Both clubs are pleased with the new link as the Centrals, based at the Kevin Bartlett Reserve, have long been a bastion of support for the Tigers. Gary March has had a long history of involvement with the Amateurs, mainly as a player and coach of Old Haileybury, but he also has strong ties to many people involved with the Beaumaris AFC.

Another ex-Tiger, Emmett Dunne, has been helping senior coach, Peter ‘Rabs’ McBrearty, with occasional assistance on specialized training drills and Emmett’s former Premiership teammate, Dale Weightman, was a special guest at the Snakes’ Jumper Presentations last Thursday night.

It was a logical step for the only two Australian Rules’ Clubs based in Richmond, and who both wear the traditional Richmond colours, to develop stronger links and  the Richmond Central Club is confident that this will develop into a very healthy relationship in the future.

The snakes are off to a good start with both of its teams recording strong wins over Point Cook last weekend. This Saturday, its first ever Club XVIII side will play against local rivals Kew.

With three major sponsors on board for the year, the club has come a long way in the last couple of years. The committee, under the guidance of President Warwick Bracken, Secretary Andrew Read &  Vice-president, David Speakman, has been rewarded for their loyalty and hard work and is determined to see the club maintain its development and progress.

Title: Tigers president No. 1 at Richmond Central (Melbourne Leader)

Tigers president No. 1 at Richmond Central
Melbourne Leader
27 Apr 10  by Karena Cox

RICHMOND Central Amateur Football Club now has a formal link with Richmond Football Club after Tigers president Gary March agreed to become the new No. 1 ticketholder for the Snakes.

Based at the Kevin Bartlett Reserve, the Snakes have long been Tigers supporters since joining the Victorian Amateur Football Association in 1987.

And it turns out March, who was appointed Tigers president in November 2005, also has a connection with the Snakes.

It was through a friend on the Snakes’ committee the ticketholder deal was struck.

Snakes president Warwick Bracken said former Richmond players and current employees had also lined up for the amateur club in the past.

“There is that connection already there so it made sense,” Bracken said.

With March on board at the Snakes Bracken said it would open plenty of doors for his club.

Already former Tiger Emmett Dunne has been helping senior coach Peter McBrearty with occasional assistance on specialised training drills, and fellow former Tiger Dale Weightman was a special guest at the Snakes’ jumper presentations.

Bracken added Richmond players would conduct training sessions throughout the season.

The club has won two premierships - in 1989 and 1994 - and for the first time the Snakes have a third team in the VAFA, in the Club XVIII division.

Snakes keep the home fires burning on a good day for Tigers

RICHMOND Centrals footy club plays in Richmond guernseys in the amateurs' division 4, the lowest senior grade. Its ground is the Kevin Bartlett Reserve, unofficially ''Comb-over Park'', which is tucked into a bend of the Yarra River.

On Saturday, the speaker at the Centrals' past-players lunch was Gary March, the Richmond president and the club's No. 1 ticket-holder. Centrals committeeman Ron Nicholson, a former Beaumaris president, had the pull to persuade March to miss out on the Tigers' game against Port Adelaide to attend the Centrals' game against Manningham Cobras. "He married a Beauy girl," Nicholson said.

March spoke fondly of amateur footy memories. He was a player, coach and president at Old Haileybury. Every Sunday he's an official for his two sons' junior teams at South Melbourne Districts. March was sorry to miss Ben Griffiths' Tigers debut, but happy to honour his commitment to the only kindred club in Richmond.
Advertisement: Story continues below

The Centrals' founder, George Paras, sat up the back with his grey, curly hair falling past his shoulders, telling of forming the club with a mate at the Cricketers' Arms Hotel in 1986. They called it the Richmond Central Football Club because Paras went to primary school at Richmond Central. They decided on the Snakes as a nickname because Tigers would have been predictable.

Warwick Bracken is the Centrals' president. In addressing the lunch the 33-year-old spoke with a hint of an American accent. Bracken spent some of his early years in Boulder, Colorado. He only learnt about footy when he moved from Brisbane to Melbourne at 27. He plays one game a year, a reserves game against Box Hill North, because the Box Hill North president plays his only game for the year on that day, too. They play for the Presidents' Cup.

One of Saturday's best was Reuben Schwedes, an 18-year-old born in Botswana. Schwedes' mother rang Bracken to see if her son could have a game. In the first half, Schwedes took several marks of judgment and force. His powerful hands were at odds with his innocent smile.

The star was Luke Jamieson, a business consultant who used to work for a company near the KB Reserve. Jamieson was a rugby league player when he arrived from Cooma in New South Wales a few years ago. Now he's the life and soul of the Centrals, exhorting his teammates at each change and writing the website match reports.

In the last quarter, Jamieson's background shone through when he tucked the ball under one arm and tried to push defenders away using his free arm. It was in keeping with a physical match, which featured countless examples of courage if fewer examples of skill. The most arresting feature was the number of times two players met at full force, shook their heads like old goats and trotted off to find another contest.

In the last quarter, there was much interest on the sidelines about Richmond's advancing lead. "They're out by 22 points," said a Centrals reserves player whose thumb tracked across an iPhone.

The Tigers were surging further ahead at Footy Park when the siren rang at the KB Reserve to signal a six-goal win to the Snakes. It was a good day for the yellow and black all round.

I've known Centrals founder George Paras since 1972, when we were both in Grade Six at Burwood Heights Primary School. We were both Tiger fanatics even then ;D I still run into him at Coburg matches.

Bump!!

Been a life long Richmond Supporter and have just moved to Melbourne, when stumbling across Richmond Central's I couldn't resist the temptation of playing for a club called Richmond and wearing the yellow and black. I'm one of many new recruits and it should hopefully be a successful year for the club.

The link between the clubs are still going with members of the Snakes meeting with Wayne Campbell last night in the new Punt Road facilities to discuss different match day tactics etc.  :thumbsup

Season kicks off for the Centrals tomorrow against South Mornington with the game to be played at Kevin Bartlett Reserve.

Had one of the founding members of the club at the jumper presentation last night in Carmine Miranda and it was great to hear about how the club was originally formed. We have over 90 registered players on our list now and have made a 3rds team which will play in the Clubbies competition. Cannot wait to pull on the yellow and black tomorrow arvo!!

Richmond Central has qualified for its first Grand Final in 16 years, with a resounding win over local rivals Swinburne. The match will be played at W.A. Scammell Reserve (Oakleigh) on Saturday the 10th of September at 2pm.

Kicking against a strong wind in the first quarter, the Centrals kicked the first goal for the game thanks to a quick snap from the in-form Hollywood. After two boundary line set shot goals from the Razorbacks, some feverish defence and rebounding led to a late Snakes goal which gave us the lead at quarter time.

The game was blown wide open in the second quarter, as the Centrals slamed home 5 goals to 1 to take a 6 goal lead into the main break. The half back line and mid-fielders did a terrific job, forcing turnovers that led to quick goals from long range. The Razors were lucky to be in the match at half time, such was the dominance of the Snakes.

Richmond kicked the first two goals of the third quarter, once again into the howling gale, to snuff out any chance of a Swinburne revival.

If you’re a big fan, get down to the club rooms Thursday night and watch the boys train for the last time. Meals will be served from 7:30pm, and the bar will be open.

http://rcafc.com/ (http://rcafc.com/)

A bunch of us will be meeting at the Junction Oakleigh about midday - I know there is a few snakes on this site so get on down, George Tongue Shane Parker a few other blasts from the past will be there - George is doing his usual rounding up of the troops and should be a good game.

Bump!

Just an update guys, I see there was a mention of our new U18 team on here as well, which is going to help our club immensely over the coming seasons with a constant flow of players from Richmond Juniors.

Our second season in D3 of the ammo's and we're currently sitting in 2nd position at 5-1.

From memory we were in a similar position last year before dropping ight off with injuries and lack of depth. The best part of this is that we have had our fair share of injuries this year but our depth is a lot better with our reserves sitting on top of the ladder, currently undefeated.

I noticed a few of the posters on here are past players, if you haven't been contacted by the club please let me know. One of our past Captains, David 'Spanker' Speakman, is looking after the Past Players of RCAFC and sends out regular emails.

Finals start this week, seniors finished 5th and take on 2nd placed UHS-VU on Saturday in Glen Waverley.

Reserves finished 4th and are taking on 3rd placed La Trobe Uni on Sunday in Oakleigh.

Despite taking on teams who finished higher, both sets of teams are in with a great chance.

The U18's finished their inaugural season with a win on the weekend, their 3rd for the year and are all sticking together for U19's next season.

A few of you may know Dugald, he popped into KB Reserve on Saturday and wrote about it in his blog - http://dugaldjellie.wordpress.com/
