Well call me a masochist but in keeping a promise I made to a friend I lost at the start of 2009 that I'll go to every game - I have my tickets and will be heading down the highway in a fortnight

Fly out Sunday too for Freo. And yes I packed my construction hard hat for protection against the feral Freo supporters who have a tendency to spit and whack with flags  ::)

The Cats on the rebound in round 6 just like in 2007. :help

They kicked 23 21 against Port at Kardinia Park on the rebound and barring torrential rain they will have at least 50 shots at goal. They could easily kick 30 -35 goals on Sunday depending on how accurate they are in front of the sticks. :help

Will be a 100+ point thumping. :help

I hope that they have two poor weeks in a row. :pray

Tigers won't shirk challenge

    * AAP
    * From: Herald Sun
    * April 27, 2010

RICHMOND coach Damien Hardwick admits his youthful Tigers face a "bloody daunting" task in taking on Geelong on the rebound when the teams clash at Skilled Stadium on Sunday.

The Tigers slumped to their fifth consecutive loss on Sunday night when Fremantle overcame a 27-point deficit to win by 39 at Subiaco Oval.

Hardwick urged Richmond fans to remain patient while his young team gains experience, but declared it wouldn't shy away from the challenge of taking on Geelong.

"If you try to shut down Geelong who do you shut down? Ablett, Chapman, Bartel - you take your pick," Hardwick said. "It's too hard, they're such a quality side. We just want our blokes to play on them and see how they go.

"It's another learning process for our players. We don't run away from a challenge, we approach it head on.

"It is bloody daunting at the same time, don't get me wrong, but it's an exciting period for our club where we can put those players against the best in the competition.

"There's some real exciting times ahead for us, we've just got to be patient."

Bring lots of vaseline, but can anybody explain this to me....
WHY in rivalry round we play Geelong?  I couldn't a fat rats arse about Geelong....we got nothing going with Geelong except in the past 25 years they have fairdinkum kebab raped us, nonetheless, we were just too crap to put up a resistance.  Collingwood, we hate, and have a real rivalry with that goes back forever, Carlton we hate and have a rivalry with, Essendon including our punch up but Geelong...crickets... lol

As long as:

1/ I am physical able to get to games

2/ And can afford it; that is afford to fly around the country to get interstate

So I suppose you could say forever or until further notice  :thumbsup

Nice of the AFL to make Geelong our "rivals" in rivalry round. Apart from 1967 since when did we have a rivalry with the Cats  ???.

I apologize for the poor English. Unfortunately I have many bad memories at that ground and not many good ones. Geelong have had the wood on us for a long time. No one can forget that thrashing they gave us in 1989.

Yes we did. But we were denied any chance of a win by the whistle-blowing maggots pandering endlessly to the sleepy hollow ferals. And that scenario will never change. Why does the $#%**!! AFL send us down to that friggin' DUMP every year??

GARY Ablett has set the scene for a ferocious Geelong performance after questioning the Cats' hunger in Monday's loss to Carlton.

The premiers will seek retribution against a winless Richmond, which looms as a sitting duck at Skilled Stadium on Sunday.

They've been a little nicer to us this week in the match preview.

WHO WILL WIN AND WHY
Geelong might be in the unfamiliar situation of not being in the top four, but they're still a cracking team. The Tigers are looking better than they did early on, but they're still last on the AFL ladder.

PREDICTION
Geelong by 50 points

From BF:

Just a few pointers for those going to Geelong on Sunday

- if you decide not to use the car park, watch where you park, if you don't park correctly you WILL be booked, the council made a seven figure amount in parking fine revenue last year, beware of fire plugs (one metre) that's one of their favourites, they love booking non-locals because they won't bother coming all the way back to Geelong to contest the fine. So make sure you triple check where you have parked.

- avoid Melbourne Road on the return journey, repairs are being done on the railway bridge near the Ford factory and Melbourne bound traffic is reduced to two lanes at 40 kph. My suggestion is try using Ballarat Road (turn right just after the LaTrobe Tce bridge) to the ring road. Ballarat Rd is dual carraigeway right up to the ring road on-ramp.

- other useful imformation can be found in this thread

from there Kardinia park is only 3 minutes away max!

Astbury will probably get bagged this week from the same olds. 2 of his 3 kicks have been shockers and lead to Cat goals.

All our high possession getters are in defence not surprisingly.
Tuck   11
Newy   9
Polo     9
McGaune 7
Lids     7
Cuz      7

Nahas has been a rare Tiger to be really proactive and take Geelong on breaking the lines.

Our forward line is non-existent. SEN saying our structure is wrong for Kardinia Park and oyr talls playing too deep. We need a lead-up CHF.

Monk give up your bondage pain fetish for Riewoldt.

He didn't throw it he got tackled and was dispossessed.. Get it right..

Lids really good off half back.
Tuck seriously struggiling.
Polo is OK but just takes for ever with decision making.
Astbury is presenting but made some errors.
Edwards is taking it on and doing ok.
Foley going alright in middle.

Just getting smashed everywhere.

Everyone expected it to be bad, but not this bad.

Everyone expected 2010 to be bad, but not this bad.  :-[

Hardwick is a raw coach learning the trade, perhaps we should have looked at what Collingwood did with Buckley or what Port wanted to do and taken the risk that he might have taken the Kangas job.

When u consider how harsh reality has hit the Hawks under Clarkson you have to give up hope on Hardwick(quoted as saying the Clarkson plan is what he's trying to implement )especially after seeing how out of their depth our whole coaching panel is.

Copping to a wholloping just to teach a team a gameplan that doesn't suit them
is as stupid as not trying ANYTHING.

I'd be trying to secure Leigh Matthews as a consultant to mentor Hardwick. Find the $$$$. We need to get harder at the contest and start winning the clearances. Simple game plan which the young blokes will understand. Persevering like this will ruin another generation of decent draft picks.

Mate that is basic football common sence for players to know not to overuse the ball
Kicking it long, quick while the forwards are free leading not giving opposition extra time to push back & push extra men back

Hardwick has been focussing on defence this year (not much today lol). Our forward line play is next on the list. It's non-existent. If Jack doesn't kick a goal no one does. Hopefully Griffs has a couple of good games at Coburg and we can start building our future forward line.

Actually TM, their first 2 goals today came from bad umpiring decisions.  First one was the kick out from Deledio for overstepping - replay showed it wasn't.  Second one was the chest mark to Riewoldt not paid - replay showed it only came out on contact with the ground and the maggot's revered CD states that a mark held until contact with the ground is a mark.  They rush it back down the other end and goal - potentially a 12 point turnaround.  It didn't make any difference in the big picture but these blokes are paid good money to adjudicate correctly - many of them are clearly not up to it.

Agree with that TM, we overused the ball badly today, worse than we had all year.  I actually thought we panicked and went back to a lot of last year's crap when we were under pressure today and it should serve to point out how precise you need to be when you are under pressure from a top side.

Just got home
COMPLETE RUBBISH TODAY.
Even Wallace would produce competitive football at Geelong.

yeah but he had Richo, Bowden, Brown et al. Unfortunately Hardwick doesnt have similar players who could for the most part added experience and abit of stability, and even with these players we were extremely uncompetitive alot of matches.

who recruited Dea?

add to that. Who recruited Edwards, Polo, Rance etc etc. They are terrible. LMFAO at how their tackles are broken at ease.

Jackson gee whiz and some say he is one of our best because he "has a go". 13 handballs he can get fu.cked too.

Nason and Tuck show more fight than the rest of those useless hacks

for me the 2 biggest mistake Hardwick has made so far was the promotion of Polak ahead of someone else. What a waste.
What was he thinking?

To keep Francis Jackson who has brought rubbish to this club is beyond me. And i thought Miller was bad. :banghead :banghead

You know why Jackson gets cut & bruised every week ???

cause he dont have a football brain, cant kick, is slow in decision making which cause him to get whacked every week & squashed into the turf  ;D
recruited for his Athletics which dont cut it in AFL football cause he has no other skills

Jackson one sided player. Always going to be exposed if he is our so called best player. Agree Tuck and Nason don't give up. Remember me of Tony Free in the old days.

im the first to put my hand up and say i wanted Tuck our of the side but after seeing what he puts out compared to other older players how can you possibly leave him out of the side. His efforts are second to none

re: jackson well its simple he must be traded. Would take a 3rd rounder. To label him a stopper is laughable.

His footskills no matter how much training he gets will not change. He is a trier and in this team we need more than that. Goodbye!!

Tuck has a very good attitude. He always puts in. The other senior players need to put their hands up. Agree with the comments that Jackson should be traded

Haven't said much, What can you say  ???
I will say this! I know where we are at but that performance was just not good enough and totally unacceptable.

Cows started to show something last week so we better be switched on or they will not only beat us, they will humiliate us.

If we bring the Freo game, well we may just be in for our first of a potential hat trick.

You read it here first folks ........ Can't believe I  just made that prediction after Sunday, but there you go!                 :gotigers

That's funny CUB. Adelaide have certainly been playing like them of late.
Title: "We looked like schoolboys and played accordingly" - Hardwick
Post by: one-eyed on May 06, 2010, 01:16:58 PM
Hardwick in his EOTT report called the side "schooboys":

"We looked like schoolboys out there in comparison to the bigger Geelong bodies, and, unfortunately, played accordingly.

It’s really important for the players to realise that, at times during a game, even when they’re getting beaten, as long as they do those non-negotiables well – put their head over the ball, tackle hard and don’t cough it up – we’ll accept that."

In our match-review meeting, ‘Axel’ Foley gave the example of Cameron Ling having a go at Paul Chapman for not taking a handball well enough, despite Geelong leading by more than 100 points at the time.

Our guys, right now, are obviously young and inexperienced, but they’re clearly not hard enough in what they demand of each other.
