Title: DREAM Time at the G 2010 - Richmond vs Essendon [merged]
Post by: tiger till i die on May 02, 2010, 06:17:42 PM
what team would you expect in probably the most important game for our young players

In Taylor, Relton, Tambling and maybe Alroy?

if players are picked only cause its dreamtime then the whole concept should be scrapped.

Alroy among others does not deserve to be picked. In fact all those names mentioned dont deserve to play in this game or any game at the minute

I agree...

I sometimes wonder if our recent drafting is influenced by this match... trying to keep up our end of the bargain with Essendon who have quite a few indigenous lads.

And the whole pre-game lead up is  :sleep

Its nice to honour the aboriginal contribution but there must be a better way.

The more we remain winless the more teams will not want to lose to us and be the ones to break that sequence.

If we dominate in the midfield and curb their ruck divsion in particular Hille we have a good shot in winning this one. Definitely need the class of Cousins though

I loved our commitment last week and to some degree it put Hawthorn under the pump and forced mistakes, but Hawthorn were also dreadful and made a lot of awful unforced errors.

Expecting a 5 goal loss but keen to see last weeks effort reproduced.

He could go through the season unbeaten but get knocked off in the Grand Final and they'd be baying for his blood.

No, I would love to win this but I just can't see it, I think they will do to us what they did last year. Remember we got to about 20 odd points up and then they came. Beat us by 40+ in the end I think.

Yeah that was 2008, very heartbreaking that one. Last time against them Pettifer kicked that goal and carried on like he was the Melbourne Cup jockey, then it went down hill. Ryder stared.

That heart breaking loss (the one where Richo got pinged for hands in the back) was in 2007.

We also went into that match with a record of 0-8....Deja vu.

To win our mids will need to stay on top of theirs for most of the night as we have done in recent years. We can't allow Watson and Stanton pick up a stack of easy kicks as we let them in the preseason practice match. Are we going to use Kingy as a tagger with Jacko missing?  :-\

If we can get on top in the midfield then it's up to our forwards kicking a winning score. We finally got past 80 points last week with 13 goals for the first time this year. The Bombers will target Jack as our most likely goalkicker so we'll need others to stand up tonight to keep the scoreboard ticking over.

Thank gawd for Lids and Foley. Tucky working hard but it's Tucky so he just bombs the ball forward whereever.

Bombers pace and spread from the stoppages is killing us. Hille having a day out in the ruck especially against Vickery who has had just one kick.

If we had stayed within 3 goals to half-time then we may have had a chance to overrun them as their runners tire but a 5 goal deficit is too much to make up. Bombers can always kick just one goal to snuff out any charge from us and maintain their comfortable lead.

Not our worse by any margin. Losing against Hille in taps but is at least involving himself in the game and linking up through the midfield. It's Vickery as second ruck who is struggling.

Getting smashed in possessions and clearances. The latter we had to win to have a chance and we've been spanked instead.

Tuck      22
Cotch     19
Foley     18 (13 hb)
Lids       15
Martin    15 (12 hb)
Riewoldt 13
Cousins  13 (10 hb)
Gus       12
Newy     11
Webbs   11
White    10

10 Tigers have had less than 10 possies compared to just 5 Bombers. Just too many passengers tonight.

Vickery played sh**house.  I know he is young but he looks like a lost child out there.
The wraps on him when we drafted him was he has some mongrel in him, i would be happy to at least see that.  He has tried a few times this year but at the wrong times and given stupid free kicks away.
Does he need to go see Richies shrink or do Richmond need to get rid of his dad?
I am really perplexed with this one

Or is he a young developing ruckman playing against men with bigger body weight

If our ruck stocks weren't so dire there would be no way he would be playing in the 1's

He should be at Coburg if he didn't need to be fast tracked to fix a f up in ruckmen recruiting

Jack obviously with 6 goals. Gave Pears a bath.

Edwards tagged Stanton out of the game so did his job.

Lids was a rare Tiger who used the ball well over the whole 4 quarters. Problem is he needs to be used in defence so we have someone who can kick it out of there and hit a target.

Tuck tried hard and got a heap of it but it was typical Tucky. At times just bombed it forward without looking.

We got smashed in the rucks and in the first half in the clearances. Hille and Ryder won the Bombers the game. 20+ marks and 5 goals between them. Vickery got a harsh lesson especially. Hille played with him running off into space and up forward because he knew Ty couldn't go with him.

Cuz had a shocker. Looked totally off the pace.

Cotch had the ball 25 times for 19 contested possies. Had 8 clearances in the last quarter or something ridiculous like that. Unfortunately his first half was poor by foot so that let him down.

Webberley did some nice things. Rance did a couple of clever things and kicked two goal in the second half.

Martin serviceable but not something to write home about.

Our small forwards were no existent.

Davey who got the Bombers going in the first quarter spanked Kingy who was unsighted all night.

Our defence in terms of spoiling did fairly well considering how often the ball was coming into our backline at times but we once again couldn't get it out of there and we turned over the footy embarrassingly. I would say at least 5 of Essendon's first 7 goals were from our dumb turnovers.

hahahahahaha Choco is the only one laughing all the way to the bank. What a complete dud this bloke is.

I spent a good 5 minutes with my eye on him and he has absolutely no idea :banghead :banghead :banghead

Mistake Number 1 by Dimma recruiting this hack of an individual.

Mcguane see above. What another spud. GC17 take him please.

you are wrong Ramps. Farmer is a dud. Have you watched him this year. The only reason he survives is because others are just worse than him. I dont want to see him play in our team again, USELESS!!!

Choco has brains thats why he got rid of this dud buty as usual we pick up the rubbish left over from the Power.

Recruiting from other clubs should be a no go zone for the RFC. It never works for us. NEVER!!

Vickory is a baby and raw as they come

Hille is a class giant. He's 105 kilos. Would be 20 kilos heavier than Vickory

I have time for Thursfield. He's a good old school defender.

Moore tries hard and wont be apart of our success.

Newman the same. Should be given teh chance at finals and traded for a pick. Need to make tough calls.

McGuane would be eaten up by a Hawthorn they'd make a big play for him. 2nd round and we'd be laughing

the simple fact is vickery should have gone back to coburg 3 or so weeks ago.
in saying this for a skinny second yr ruckman hes developing just fine.

ive said it a bit lately but he needs some full games some confidence some touch  needs to take some overhead marks and win some hit outs.

for where he is at the only place this can happen atm is coburg.
cmon damien its now getting beyond a joke, some common sense please, hes had a decent block of games and is now strugggling, hes struggled for weeks.
we have another young ruckman who may do as little as tyrone but he needs some games. we need to get games into all of our younger players.

Please improve your knowledge of football your posts are embarrassing Monk.

Ryder started the 2010 season as a 22 year old.

Vickory started as a 19 year old.

Ryder's strength is his agility which can be shown at early ages of footballers. Vickory's strength will be his body size and strength which needs to be built over time.

Completly different footballers.

Same sooks each week looking for some player/scape goat to complain about to make them feel better.
It will be someone else next week and the week after. If it's not Riewoldt its Tambling, or its Newman or its Rance or its Vickory.

hmm in looking at vickerys body shape  i have doubts that he will ever be a crash bash huge bodied type. and for what its worth he has agility its most other areas hes struggling with ATM.

Well then I'd be seeing your doctor to see if you are suffering from memory loss

Ryder's first 2-3 years in the system he was crap, regularly bagged by the media and supporters of all clubs for doing very little in his first few years.
He had to be moved into a loose man in defence CHB to try and get him involved in the game. He only stepped up properly in the ANZAC game last year when Hille did his knee and Ryder took over in the ruck and turned the game, He won the ANZAC medal from memory. He's never played another game that well since, but he's becoming a very good player, as he should be starting to do at his age now, especially as such a Pick 7 from 2005.

is that right, his started in 2006 & played around approx 10 games, since then he has hardly missed a game so he must be pretty poo by your opinion
He was never drafted to be a ruckman anyway but still played good enough footy not to be dropped but exploded when going into the ruck & found a new ability against bigger ruckmen. but Anyway Vickery his a chicken poo, l dont like weak players so he needs to toughen up or get rid of daddy

Yes, that is right drafted at Pick 7 in 2005 and debuted in 2006. He was 100% drafted for his ability to play both ruck and kpp, but he was also terrible early on when he started and Sheedy was critisised for playing him too soon.

You say he only played 10 games in his first year and every game in the years after that. Well if thats your standard for "tearing it up at AFL level from the start"  then how does Vickery playing 9 games in his first year last year and every game so far in his 2nd year compare?
By your own reasoning, he's tearing it up from the start just like Ryder did!!!
Title: Re: DREAM Time at the G 2010 - Richmond vs Essendon [merged]
Post by: Infamy on May 23, 2010, 02:11:47 AM
Just to prove my point even further
Comparing their debut seasons you will find they both played 9 games
Ryder was Pick 7 in 2005 197cm 90kg
Vickery was Pick 8 in 2008 200cm 89kg
so very similar ratings as juniors.

Averages for
Patrick 2006 3.1 Kick 2.1 Hand 5.2 Disp 1.6 Mark 0.2 Goal 0.2 Bhnd 1.1 Tack 2.9 HitO
Tyrone 2009 2.4 Kick 6.2 Hand 8.7 Disp 2.4 Mark 0.6 Goal 0.1 Bhnd 1.9 Tack 8.8 HitO

So if Ryder burst onto the scene in day one and Vickery is ahead in pretty much every stat, looks like we have a good one on our hands doesn't it.... if we're a bit more bloody patient and allow our kids to develop properly.

I still think Riewoldt needs to pull his head in, let his football and not his mouth or stupid gestures do the talking.

This would have to be the best post on OER.
Well done Jacosh.
This kid has got a "'saloon run"" through to AFL ranks due to his Dad.
He has little impact on a game.
I have watched Tyrone when he played TAC , he cant play, I said the same about Patterson as well.
He actually cant put his hand on the ball at centre bounces.
As bad as Graham is, Graham has gone past him in the last 2 rounds.
Graham is actually improving , why ? He doesnt seem to be scared.. Vickery is

just on ryder. he was drafted from east freo where he was playing seniors as a ruckman. his size  a little on the short and small side had essendon draft him to play chf not a ruckman. good in the air agile great leap  good skills  etc said he should make a kpp he did play as one a bit as a junior.being an east freo supporter i saw a bit of paddy and he was one i was hopeful would slip to us but but knew it was unlikely.

ryder was mainly played as a kp early at essendon and of course he struggled it has taken time to get size on him and you logically dont get the room as a forward that you get as a ruckman.it wasnt until they copped injurys to all their ruckmen that he took on the ruck duties full time. imo essendon are making a mistake in not continuing to develop him as a kpf.

just on vickery as stated for weeks now he needs to go back to coburg for a stint or as part of a rotation with browne in blocks of games.
he s timid and does not commit his body fully at times. this is understandable he does not have the  size and strength and i have seen hurt a few times now. it will be a problem only if this continues to happen when hes near 100kg and has the core strength.

This would have to be the best post on OER.
Well done Jacosh.
This kid has got a "'saloon run"" through to AFL ranks due to his Dad.
He has little impact on a game.
I have watched Tyrone when he played TAC , he cant play, I said the same about Patterson as well.
He actually cant put his hand on the ball at centre bounces.
As bad as Graham is, Graham has gone past him in the last 2 rounds.
Graham is actually improving , why ? He doesnt seem to be scared.. Vickery is
The concept of a player getting a game becuase his dad is the part time boxing coach is a joke.
He's not on the match commitee and has no say at all, stop repeating such bullsh!t

Vickery is getting a game because he was our only option. Graham has gone past him because Graham is in his 5th year is 23 years old and has 100kg to put up against similar size players.

Give the kid a chance, he shouldn't be playing at AFL level but has to due to no options. Funny how you were only weeks ago ripping into Graham as a dud yet now he's playing good enough football for us to at least be a stop gap solution while we develop our other younger rucks properly.

just on ryder. he was drafted from east freo where he was playing seniors as a ruckman. his size  a little on the short and small side had essendon draft him to play chf not a ruckman. good in the air agile great leap  good skills  etc said he should make a kpp he did play as one a bit as a junior.being an east freo supporter i saw a bit of paddy and he was one i was hopeful would slip to us but but knew it was unlikely.

Here is my thoughts, overall really I said it in the lead up and even the commentators made the same comment. We were too small, way too small, we can't have farmer, King and Edwards in the same team at the same time. Edwards is a given now, he has really lifted and has cemented a spot in the side, lets just hope he can keep going!!

McGuane: Too slow, I had/have a lot of time for him but gee he was slow last nigh and got caught a few times.

Raines: C'mon boy, you have the body and the brains but gee your skill and discipline is not good mate. Your turnovers are continual. It has to stop, you do need to be dropped to Coburg to sort your stuff out.

Astbury: How good is this kid going to be after next pre-season.... :thumbsup

Graham: really taken the game on IMO, he is trying his guts out, lets hope he makes it!!

Farmer: Sorry but I am not sure if he will make it, I hope he does but he just looks out of sorts.

Tuck: PLEASE PLEASE play him in the forward line for the rest of the season. Let him have a go there full time.

White: Looks like he is getting into it more and more each week, leave him in the side.

The rest, e.g. Lids (please leave in centre), Martin, Foley, Cotchin Jack etc.. really had good games IMO.

I don't rate Walls or any of those commentators from last night or the umpires, the world hates us at the moment and that is evident. But when we are winning..... just watch!!

Vickory is a baby and raw as they come

Hille is a class giant. He's 105 kilos. Would be 20 kilos heavier than Vickory

I have no doubt that he wouldnt have much of a chance against a bigger bodied more experienced Hille.  The point was he wasnt even trying how many times did Hille run into the forward lie and take an uncontested mark with Vickery no where to be seen.  Its not only this game he contiually does it week after week.  All im asking for is for him to run his ass of and try, show us some of this mogrel was is meant to have, not just give up cause he is outsized.
